This is my second Dove Soleil book, and I’m just as in love as I was the first time. Her writing style, her ability to paint vivid pictures, and the irresistible charm of her characters have me hooked — she’s quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite authors. Honestly? She dragged me to the dark side, and now I find myself enjoying books I never would’ve dreamed of picking up before. (Bad influence? Absolutely. But when the characters are this fabulous, how can I even complain?)
What I loved:
One of the things I appreciated most was the plus-size rep, written in a way that felt natural and celebrated rather than tokenized. The banter between Silvia and Ari, while not the sharp-edged sass I usually swoon over, had a charming, playful quality that worked perfectly for the story. And the vibes? Immaculate. This book felt like curling up on a fall evening with candles flickering — cozy and atmospheric, except the cocoa’s been swapped out for demon fire. Honestly, it read like the missing X-rated scene from Practical Magic (though I did find myself wishing for Midnight Margaritas to make a cameo). My favorite line sealed it for me: "It's like someone painted him with brushstrokes of precious, infernal metal just to piss off the angels."
What I didn't love:
Honestly, not much. I just found myself wishing for a bit more backstory on Ari — who he was outside of the summoning circle, more glimpses into his inner world. But it didn’t take away from the story or my reading experience; if anything, it left me wanting more.
Rating:
I’m giving Summon D for Demon a full 5 out of 5 stars. This book hit all the right notes for me — cozy, witchy, and just the right touch of smut to make it addictive.
Spice level rating:
I'm giving this a 3 out of 5 peppers — warm and steamy. There are on-page sex scenes, but nothing overly graphic. Moderate language throughout, with maybe 1-2 especially explicit scenes. The spicy moments are well-balanced with plot and character growth.
Recommendation:
Absolutely. If you’re looking for monster smut with witchy vibes to pad your spooky season TBR, this one is a no-brainer. Cozy, fun, a little sinful — and surprisingly heartwarming underneath the infernal paint.
Compelling Sentence:
An x-rated Practical Magic scene we never got — all the cozy witchcraft feels, but with a demon in the circle instead of margaritas on the counter
