Captivating story

“Passage” is easily one of the most captivating time-travel stories I’ve read this year.

The concept itself is rather unique—a seemingly ordinary slide that becomes a portal through both time and space. From the very first pages, the author managed to capture my attention, and once the mystery began unfolding, I genuinely had a hard time putting the book down.

I particularly enjoyed Melanie as the main protagonist. She is smart, resilient, and capable of adapting to circumstances that would completely overwhelm most people. Following her journey through an increasingly complicated situation was one of the strongest parts of the story for me.

Another thing I really appreciated was the finale. Obviously, I can’t say much without spoiling some major developments, but I was very pleased with the resolution. After spending the book wondering how everything would ultimately come together, the payoff worked extremely well for me. And then, of course, we get the epilogue—which offers just enough of a cliffhanger to make sure I’ll be checking out the next book.

If I could offer one small criticism, it would be the choice to tell the story in third-person present tense. This is entirely a matter of personal preference, but even though I loved the story itself, I occasionally felt that the narrative would have flowed more naturally in past tense. It certainly wasn’t enough to diminish my enjoyment, though.

Overall, “Passage” delivered exactly what I want from a good time-travel story: an original concept, mystery, engaging characters, and plenty of questions.

this was such a weird little timey-wimey ride, and honestly? i respect it. passage takes the concept of “what if a slide was deeply not normal” and runs with it in the most dramatic sci-fi thriller way possible. like yes, apparently playground equipment can ruin your life. noted.

i really liked the eerie, mysterious atmosphere and how the story plays with fate, time, and the idea that one strange choice can completely change everything. it has that “wait, what is actually happening?” energy that makes you keep reading because you need answers, even if your brain is occasionally sitting in the corner with a little loading wheel.

some parts did feel a little chaotic, but in a way that mostly worked for the story. it is definitely not your typical sci-fi setup, and that made it stand out. overall, a fun, twisty, strange little thriller that made me side-eye indoor slides forever.

Passage completely surprised me in the best way. It starts off quiet and atmospheric, but before long, I found myself totally pulled into the story and not wanting to put it down. The writing has a haunting, almost dreamlike quality that makes everything feel a little unsettling in the best possible way.
What I loved most was the book's mood. There’s this constant feeling that something isn’t quite right, and it keeps building the farther you get into the story. At the same time, the emotional side of it really hit hard, too. The themes of grief, loss, and figuring out who you are after everything changes felt very real and grounded.
It’s definitely more of a slow-burn read than an action-packed one, but that’s part of what made it so memorable for me. If you enjoy darker, emotional stories with gothic and speculative fiction vibes, this is absolutely one to add to your list.

I went in not knowing how GREAT this book was going to be.

A fun, mind-bending sci-fi read. The idea of an indoor slide becoming a terrifying passage through time was so unique and gave the story this eerie, unsettling vibe from the start. Melanie’s journey was packed with suspense, mystery, and emotional moments that kept me hooked the entire time.

If you love time travel, supernatural elements, strange phenomena, and stories that feel like a mix of Stranger Things and Dark Matter, this one is definitely worth picking up. Fast-paced, atmospheric, and impossible to put down.

Great story

Melanie has just moved into her new house. She's getting over a bad relationship and starting a new career. When she is babysitting her niece and nephew, she gives them a tour of the house including the indoor slide, which us what drew her to purchase the home. She warns them not to go down it though because it's not safe. However, the kids get bored and take a chance on the slide anyway, leading to a series of events that are unexplainable to everyone except Melanie and the kids. This book is really good, I enjoyed reading it because the story flowed well and all of the characters were likeable.

Passage is a fast-paced sci-fi thriller that caught me by surprise—in the best way. As a debut novel, it’s impressively well-crafted, with a story that’s easy to dive into and hard to put down. The plot moves quickly, keeping the tension high without ever feeling rushed, and the world-building strikes a nice balance between futuristic intrigue and grounded realism.

Yvette T Mihaly does a great job introducing compelling characters and weaving in twists that keep you guessing. The writing is clean and accessible, making this a perfect weekend read for fans of sci-fi thrillers who want something engaging but not overly complex.

For a first-time author, Mihaly shows real promise. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever she writes next.

I find that I liked this book way more than I thought I would. I was a little iffy since it was a sci-fi book and I don’t tend to read those but this one really surprised me. A slide that has the ability to spit you out in random places across the world in different time eras? Yea, I would be a little cautious but I am also a little intrigued by this. Melanie definitely should have had the entrance to the slide boarded up so her niece and nephew didn’t have access to it but that’s neither here nor there. I give kudos to the kids for handling the situation as well as they did because I would have probably shat my pants if I was alone in a different country with no idea where my parents where or how to get back. The jail scene was a little dramatic for me and I feel like it was overkill but I am curious to see where book 2 goes. I did love how the grandson found Melanie. Such a wholesome moment.
