I can't believe that I was allowed to pass through childhood without reading this one! I saw the movie and as all children that have not been introduced to the classics believed that I had experienced all the book had to offer. When I read this book to my children, I "knew" what was going to happen, but only on the surface. Once again i have been blown away by the amazing ability of such gifted storytellers to bring life's hardships, and reality to fruition right in front of my eyes! The enduring strength, courage, faith, and friendship within this story has changed my children and myself. We laughed and cried and embraced with heartache and pain for weeks after we finsihed with this story. I recomend this book to all mothers and children. I think it especially a wonderful read-aloud because you can comfort and share and discuss the difficult themes within the book.
