The Friendship List

Rate this book
At fifty-seven, photographer Kay didn't expect to fall head over heels in love, or get married, but the thing she thought she could always count on was Rose's friendship. She and Rose have known each other for over forty years, and Rose was supposed to be Kay's maid of honor today at her wedding. So when she pulls her phone from the pocket of her bright yellow dress and sees the message, she's Kay, I hope today is wonderful. Please don't contact me again, Rose.

Kay is incredibly happy with her husband, Murray, who makes her feel so happy and loved. But without Rose in her life, she feels lost. She and Rose have stuck together through it all; getting each other through tough break-ups, problems with children, and losing Kay's beloved mum. Rose is Kay's person. How can she possibly want to say goodbye?

Murray encourages Kay to go back to a box of photographs she's kept of her dearest friends and family for many years. As Kay looks through the faces, she recognizes people faces she hasn't seen for years and wonders if they could help to her unlock the key to why Rose wants to say goodbye.

As Kay sets out to find the people she's let go, she hopes she will get a chance to convince Rose this doesn't have to be goodbye. But the journey will change her forever....

When things are at their worst, pretending to be normal can be all that stands between oneself and sanity.

I just dived deeper into this book and realized there's more to life than simply having love. It's a book to pick up when you want to recall the value of friendships in your life, one that teaches us how important female friendships are and how often we forget to cherish them.

...it was meant to communicate what I couldn't. That whatever happened, I wouldn't ever forget you, or our friendship.

I went from feeling confused about Rose's sudden departure to understanding that sometimes friends need a break. It shouldn't be seen with an ounce of hatred. Even if Rose didn't intend for this to happen, she made Kay question her efforts a lot. Rose made Kay revisit every good and bad memory from the past, and how it helped Kay emerge as a person was beautiful. I felt so bad for Kay for being conned by someone so close, but it was a necessary lesson for her.

People say there shouldn't be age barriers to learning new things. What happened with Kay was the universe giving an example to affirm this. I know for sure that I'm going to look back and think about Kay's journey in this story often.

The Friendship List is written for us to read and reflect upon ourselves, our bonds with the people we love, the people we lost touch with and the ones who are no more. I didn't know that a simple ARC from the Women's Fiction would touch my soul, like this one did.

A MUST READ!
