Except...one of the waitresses is missing.

Who's pregnant.

Who everyone thought was having an affair with the owner of the bar.

How can Charlie say no to the owner's widow? And when Charlie accidentally finds the pregnant waitress, things start to take a strange turn. And suddenly, Charlie finds herself thrust into a decades-old mystery that haunts Redemption to this day.

A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but she does spend much of her time writing stories now. Mystery stories, to be exact. They're clean and twisty, and range from psychological thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the mix. If that wasn't enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including short stories, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.

Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and currently lives there with her husband and Harvey, her rescue beagle, after spending nearly 30 years living in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona.

When she's not writing, she's usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or watching the Food Network and imagining she's an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert, she's not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)

Dollycas’s Thoughts

We return to Redemption, Wisconsin, where a bar has burned down on the other side of town, where the direct descendants of the adults who mysteriously disappeared in 1888 live. Many believe the 1888ers are cursed, including Charlie Kingsley’s best friend, Pat. Charlie has a way of solving the local mysteries, but Pat begs her not to get involved in this arson investigation. But Charlie was the first to arrive on the scene and helped a young pregnant woman escape from the building with just moments to spare. It’s not her fault that the woman disappeared shortly after fire and police personnel arrived. Or that Charlie was unable to save the owner of the establishment. Rumors say the owner and the woman were having an affair.

Charlie is surprised when the owner’s widow tracks her down and asks her to investigate. Unfamiliar with the whole 1888 curse thing, she visits one of her tea customers in hopes she can help her understand. It is there that she makes a big discovery. Suddenly, Charlie could be in danger as the arson case connects to a mystery from long ago.

Michele (PW) Pariza Wacek takes her readers back to Wisconsin in the 1990s. Redemption has a peculiar history, which we learn more about in Arson, Old Lace, and Murder.

Each of Ms. Pariza Wacek’s characters is well-crafted and unique. Charlie is a strong, smart woman. She meets all kinds of people selling and delivering her custom teas. This case puzzles her. Her best friend, Pat, has stopped her daily visits; she won’t even talk to her. The police appear to be clueless. Wyle gets demoted and actually asks Charlie to investigate. Enter Mildred, from The Redemption Detective Agency (another series by this author). The residents of Redemption are a very interesting bunch. Some take quirky to a whole new level. Meeting some of the 1888ers and hearing their stories was stirring, but the subgroup of The Forgotten was creepy and scary.

The author penned a twisty mystery with plenty of suspects. Charlie is truly on a quest to get to the truth. For the longest time, people who could have helped Charlie withheld valuable information in an effort to protect themselves and her. The guilty party thought they knew everything. They were wrong, but Charlie was in no position to correct them. I had a fantastic time chasing clues with Charlie. She finds herself in hot water more than once. There were some intense moments leading up to the reveal and the very satisfying takedown.

Arson, Old Lace, and Murder was an excellent addition to this series. The pages flew by with a well-plotted mystery filled with appealing and quirky characters, set in an intriguing small town. The author finds a perfect balance of drama and suspense with humor laced throughout and just a touch of romance. An entertaining book that I highly recommend. You can read this book as a standalone, but I can guarantee you will want to go back and read more.

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t read a series out of order 🤣 this one is part of a series that, although I didn’t feel too lost at any point. I love a cozy mystery, and this one had all of the important parts: a mystery, a cop, an amateur detective (or two, or three), romantic tension, and a small town secret. So many twists and turns, so many fun characters, and the mystery was great! I changed my mind so many times and never quite figured it out. 🫖🫖🫖🫖🫖

I read books 1-4 in this series some time ago so when I got this book #8 I had to give it a try. I clearly some back story in books 5-7, but I knew enough to jump right in. Good cozy mystery but I still don't get the town of Redemption!
That's another whole connected series!

Anyway I did enjoy this book, Charlie is a great character.

I’ve met Arson, Old Lace, and Murder‘s protagonist Charlie Kingsley in one of the novellas that goes along with her cozy mystery series, and I’m familiar with the strange goings-on in the town of Redemption thanks to that novella as well as the Redemption Detection Agency books I’ve read. But this is the first time I’ve seen the more chilling side of Redemption up close, and it has me really wanting to find time to catch up on the original Secrets of Redemption psychological thriller series that all these cozy mystery series have spun off from. But, all that said, you could definitely read this latest Charlie Kingsley Mystery as a standalone because author Michele Pariza Wacek does a great job of bringing readers up to speed and giving us the info we need to follow along with no confusion. (Also, I was delighted to see Mildred from the Redemption Detection Agency get some good page time in this book, and – true to form – she cracked me up every time she joined a scene.)

My previous encounters with Charlie proved her to be a likable character, and I enjoyed spending more of an extended period of time with her in Arson, Old Lace, and Murder. She’s got such a kind heart that wants to help her friends – and people who need a friend – and this puts her right in the middle of an arson/murder investigation in this book. Much to the continued consternation of Detective Wyle who seems to have deep feelings for her even though she’s keeping him in the friend zone for reasons that hint at her troubled past (which is apparently detailed more in the Secrets of Redemption books). Trying to get to the bottom of these particular crimes places Charlie in the crosshairs of the 1888ers – a group tied to a hundred year old missing persons mystery in Redemption – and perhaps some forces that aren’t entirely earthly. (Though that remains to be seen.) I immersed myself completely into this story, my mind constantly swirling with possibilities for not only whodunit but the secrets of this quirky town as well. Add in that little dash of romance simmering below the surface for Charlie and her friend Wyle and this book really does check all my boxes.

Bottom Line: The more time I spend in Redemption, Wisconsin, the more I find it equal parts charming and unsettling, and Arson, Old Lace, and Murder by Michele Pariza Wacek confirmed each of those feelings once again. What is lurking beneath the surface of this town? We get perhaps an inkling of it in this book but the author so wonderfully teases out the threads of the town’s secrets that we almost hope we never completely find out because the unexplained undercurrents are so deliciously atmospheric. Arson, Old Lace, and Murder is well-plotted and engaging, with several twists that kept me guessing right along with Charlie and a slightly darker edge that raised the stakes. I look forward to more visits to this quirky town, more mysteries to solve, more time with Charlie (and Mildred!) and more romance on the horizon.

(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read via Kindle Unlimited.)

I went into this book without having read the earlier titles in the Charlie Kingsley series, but I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to follow along. The story pulled me in right away with its mix of small-town charm and darker undertones. Redemption, Wisconsin, is such a vivid setting quirky, cozy, but also shadowed by secrets and local legends that make the mystery feel layered and intriguing.

Charlie is a fantastic lead. I loved how she’s practical, warm-hearted, and not afraid to get involved even when everyone warns her to stay away. Her tea-making business adds a cozy touch, but her determination to uncover the truth gives the story real grit. The way she balances everyday life with the danger of investigating made her feel relatable and easy to root for.

The mystery itself was engaging, with plenty of twists and red herrings. I especially enjoyed how the decades-old lore of the “1888ers” tied into the present-day case, it gave the book a slightly eerie edge that made it stand out from typical cozy mysteries. The pacing kept me turning pages, and the final reveal was satisfying without feeling rushed.

What impressed me most was how the book blended humour, suspense, and heart. The quirky side characters, the small-town gossip, and the moments of real danger all worked together to create a story that was both entertaining and memorable.

Even though this was my first read in the series, it left me wanting more. I’m definitely interested in going back to the earlier books now, because if they’re anything like this one, I know I’ll enjoy them.

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

I had the privilege of ARC reading Michelle’s two Christmas novellas last December and I adored them, so I was so excited when she reached out asking me to read a Charlie Kingsley mystery. These cozy mysteries are just right up my alley. I love Charlie so much. She’s such a delight. And I also love her friends and the other side characters. This one was a little more intense than I expected but I was here for it. And it still had a nice little twist I didn’t really see coming. I also love this series because there’s a bit of a love story between Charlie and Wyle and I can’t wait to read the next book to get more of these two. This is book 8 in the series, and you can definitely read it stand alone but all it did was make me want to go read books 1-7 so I can get more of Charlie.

If you’re looking for some cozy mysteries then I definitely recommend trying this book (or series). This one is out today!

I have never been a tea drinker but with Charlie making different teas for people in the community it makes me want to start trying it. I really liked that is mystery could be read as a standalone. All the information needed about the characters was given in a way where I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. I liked that Charlie doesn’t necessarily jump at the chance to do “detective work” as it is put in the book but does it more because she cares about helping people. The pacing was great and I liked how Charlie processed all the information. Learning about the town’s history and curse was fun and all the hush hush about people really kept me guessing. It was the perfect length to not fill rushed but to read quickly.

I am an ARC reader for Book Sirens and this is my honest opinion. I love these Charlie Kingsley mysteries. Michele Pariza Wacek has built a wonderful but dark, physiological mystery series around the town of Redemption, Wisconsin that is full of so many superstitions based on a deeply mysterious event in 1888 that the residents believe the town makes decisions itself. Each of the Charlie Kingsley mysteries can be read alone but Charlie has such a dark past that is hinted at in each book that the author gives 3 options at the back of the book for finding out about it. but personally, having read the Redemption series, starting with "It began with a lie" I'd recommend it. Charlie has a nose for not only the teas she's famous for, but also sniffing out the truth. I highly recommend this book and the two connected series by this brilliant author

I have only read a few books in this series and this one read well as a standalone. The mystery was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. Some of it was a little darker than I’m used to in a cozy mystery, but the story was very well done. It held my attention and I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. Overall it was an enjoyable read.

Content warning: grief, murder, non graphic description of the victim and other injuries, a bit of suspense, mentions of curses

Part of a series set in the 1990s. Hence no cell phones or internet. Charlie is a tea seller and somehow is involved in solving mysteries. Redemption is a town divided into 1888ers and regular townsfolk. Solving the mystery of who burned down the bar and killed Arthur becomes Charlie’s goal. Who are the Forgotten? How do they fit into the case?

🔥✨ ARC REVIEW ✨🔥

Arson, Old Lace, and Murder by Michele Pariza Wacek absolutely consumed me; in the best, most fantastically twisty way possible.

From the very first page, I was completely wrapped up in Charlie Kingsley’s world again, and let me just say… this might be her most intense, pulse pounding case yet. What starts as a seemingly straightforward arson investigation quickly spirals into something so much deeper, darker, and more dangerous than I ever expected; and I was living for every second of it.

@themichelepw is absolutely brilliant at creating a cozy mystery that borders on a full on cozy thriller. She balances charm and danger so effortlessly, and this book is the PERFECT example of that magic. One minute I was smiling at the small town vibes and familiar characters, and the next I was holding my breath, trying to piece together clues before everything unraveled. And trust me… the twists? ABSOLUTELY UNHINGED (in the best way).

Charlie continues to be one of my all time favorite amateur sleuths. She’s sharp, determined, and so wonderfully real and watching her navigate a case that becomes increasingly personal and dangerous had me completely emotionally invested. The stakes felt higher, the mystery more layered, and the danger? VERY real.

And can we talk about that underlying decades old mystery element?! Because WOW. The way everything connects is so cleverly done, and when the pieces started falling into place, I genuinely got chills.

✨ Highlights:
• A twisty, addictive mystery that keeps you guessing
• Charlie at her absolute BEST (and bravest!)
• Small-town cozy vibes mixed with real danger
• Secrets that refuse to stay buried
• A plot that escalates in the most satisfying way
• That perfect cozy mystery → cozy thriller blend

If you love cozy mysteries with depth, heart, and jaw dropping twists, you NEED this book on your radar.

🔥 Final Verdict: A wildly addictive, twist filled ride that proves this series just keeps getting better and better; and I am already counting down to Book 9.

Have you read any of the Charlie Kingsley mysteries yet or is this your sign to start? 👀📚

Huge thank you to @netgalley for the ARC!

Arson, Old Lace and Murder is the eighth book in the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series by Michele Pariza Wacek. It can be read as a standalone, but you might enjoy it more if you read prior books. I’ve read five of them including this, and I’ve loved them all! This series is set in the 1990s in the unique town of Redemption, Wisconsin which has a creepy past! This past is talked about in the book and plays a part in the mystery with the 1888ers.

Charlie makes teas for whatever ails you, and her tea customers love her. She does have the tendency to get caught up in murder….No, she’s not committing them! Somehow or other, she is roped in to looking into the murders, much to the chagrin of Wyle, a local detective. She does happen to be good at it though, so… However, this time, her best friend Pat begs her not to get involved. The murder mystery involves a bar fire in the 1888ers side of town, and Pat, along with many others, believes that the 1888ers are cursed and that Charlie will be cursed if she gets involved. But then the victim’s wife begs Charlie to look into it, and she can’t say no. Pat quits talking to her, the police are no help, so the only help she gets is from Mildred. By the way, Mildred is in another of Wacek’s series, The Redemption Detective Agency, which is very funny! I recommend checking it out too.

I’ve found the characters in this series (and this book) to be very well-written. They’ve got unique personalities, and I especially like the quirky characters. The side characters in this book gave the mystery plenty of red herrings and rabbit trails to follow. I had my suspicions about who the culprit was, and like a good amateur sleuth, I was right! I liked following the clues and the creepy factor of the 1888ers. Everything wraps up well with no cliff-hangers except we’re still up in the air about the romance developing between Charlie and Wyle! There’s another small issue that isn’t wrapped up yet, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the mystery.

The unique cast of characters, atmospheric setting, creep factor, and well-plotted mystery make Arson, Old Lace and Murder a great addition to the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series! I highly recommend it!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book as part of Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Charlie is drawn into a deadly case of arson, murder, and revenge.

Arson, Old Lace, and Murder is the eighth book in author Michele Pariza Wacek's always-intriguing Charlie Kingsley Mystery series, where a deadly case of arson draws Charlie into the affairs of the clannish 1888ers, the direct descendants of the children left behind when every adult in Redemption mysteriously disappeared in a single night. While Charlie is delivering a tea order to her one client who lives in a part of town almost exclusively inhabited by 1888ers, she discovers a local business ablaze, with a young woman trapped inside. After rescuing her and hearing that a man was still in the building, Charlie returns to make another attempt, but it's too late. In the meantime, though, the survivor, who is well along in pregnancy, disappears with Charlie's coat and the money from her wallet. Shockingly, the police officer on the scene is completely uninterested in locating the young mother-to-be, or in investigating what is obviously a case of arson. The following day, after the local paper reports Charlie's actions at the fire, the wife of the man who perished comes to hire her to investigate his murder.

Once again, Charlie Kingsley is at the center of a baffling crime that Officer Brandon Wyle doesn't want her investigating. However, this story is unique in that even her friends are adamantly opposed to her involvement, except for pseudo-detective and retired high school English teacher, Mildred Schmidt, who is eager to assist.

Charlie hits a brick wall with every clue she pursues, and even the young woman who had pulled the disappearing act is unwilling to tell what she knows. In an interesting twist, Wyle is warned off asking questions about the case by his superiors and is forced to encourage Charlie to dig up something so concrete that the case can no longer be swept under the rug. The barriers to the official investigation into anything related to the 1888ers are unknown, but whatever they are, they are closely guarded secrets.

Charlie and Wyle's relationship is off-kilter and uneasy, and I'm becoming less and less an advocate of their pairing as time goes on. I don't feel like he supports her or truly respects her as a smart and capable adult. It's time she explores other options.

The story maintains a brisk pace as Charlie does her best to pry information from anyone who might shed light on the secrets of the 1888ers and an even more insular group, The Forgotten. The resolution was surprising, but it made sense.

While this book is the eighth in the series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. However, for the best experience, read a couple of the previous books in this or the related series by the author. I recommend ARSON, OLD LACE, AND MURDER to readers of cozy mysteries, especially those who enjoy paranormal elements in their stories.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries with a slightly darker edge and a touch of small‑town secrets, Arson, Old Lace and Murder is a very entertaining read.

The story opens with a bang—literally. Charlie Kingsley stumbles upon a burning building and ends up rescuing a mysterious pregnant girl from the fire. But before anyone can help her, the girl disappears… along with Charlie’s coat and cash. From there, the mystery quickly deepens: a body in the burned building, whispers about a secretive group called the “1888ers,” and a long‑standing curse tied to the town of Redemption.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is the small‑town atmosphere. Redemption feels alive with gossip, secrets, and eccentric characters. Charlie herself is a likable protagonist—she runs a tea business, bakes constantly, and somehow still manages to stumble into complicated investigations. Her interactions with friends like Pat, and the ever‑skeptical Officer Wyle, add humor and warmth that balance out the darker elements of the mystery.

The concept of the 1888ers and the town’s rumored curse adds an intriguing layer that makes the story feel a little more mysterious than a typical cozy. It blends folklore, local history, and modern crime in a way that keeps the reader curious about what’s really going on.

If I had one small critique, it’s that the story introduces a lot of intriguing threads early on—secrets, conspiracies, and town lore—and sometimes it feels like you’re just getting a glimpse of them rather than full answers right away. But in a series mystery, that sense of ongoing intrigue can also be part of the fun.

Overall, this is a fast, engaging cozy mystery with strong characters, plenty of intrigue, and a hint of the supernatural. Fans of small‑town mysteries and amateur sleuths will likely enjoy spending time in Redemption.

Arson, Old Lace and Murder is exactly the kind of cozy mystery that feels like slipping into a favourite jumper—comforting, quirky, and just a little bit wicked. Charlie Kingsley, tea‑maker extraordinaire and reluctant sleuth, is the perfect guide through Redemption, Wisconsin: practical, warm‑hearted, and forever finding herself in the middle of trouble she never asked for.

This time, it’s a bar reduced to ashes, a dead owner, and a missing waitress who also happens to be pregnant—and possibly entangled in a scandalous affair. Charlie wants nothing to do with arson investigations, but when the widow comes knocking and the town starts whispering, she’s pulled in despite herself. What follows is a delightful tangle of misdirection, small‑town gossip, and a decades‑old mystery that refuses to stay buried.

The joy of this book lies in its tone. It’s funny without being fluffy, twisty without losing its warmth. The 1990s setting adds a lovely nostalgic charm, and the cast of eccentric locals—pets included—gives Redemption that lived‑in, slightly off‑kilter personality that cozy readers adore. Charlie herself is a standout: no‑nonsense, quietly brave, and endlessly endearing as she stumbles into danger with nothing but determination and a good cup of tea.

As the clues deepen and the past resurfaces, the stakes rise in a way that feels organic and satisfying. The mystery is clever, the pacing brisk, and the final reveal lands with just the right blend of surprise and inevitability.

A witty, comforting, and thoroughly engaging cozy mystery perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Aurora Teagarden, and anyone who loves their crime with heart, humour, and a dash of danger.

TThis is the eighth book in the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series. I have not read them all or in order which can be confusing if you’re trying to figure out where Wyle & Charlie stand in the relationship. This does not influence this standalone story.

Redemption is a superstitious-riddled town enveloped in many secrets. The town people believe in supernatural occurrences, the police force does not seem to want to investigate the fire or death as anything but an accident. It seems they haven’t coordinated with the fire chief to see if the fire was arson.

Wyle has been placed on traffic duty to prevent him from asking questions on the fire case. He has been told to keep his nose out of the case.

Edie & Hattie are part of the 1888ers. They have been raised with the stories of the 1888ers and their “curse.” No one wants to give Charlie any information that is useful.

I had a hard time buying into the supernatural aspect of their fear but found their fear of the police understandable. I was disappointed in the police department’s handling of anything to do with the 1888ers over the years. I was even more disappointed in them not investigating the incident as “suspicious” until proven otherwise.

Even though I didn’t get their attitude, I found the book well-written. I read this in two sittings. Looking forward to book nine to see if any friendships are reconciled.
I was given a e-ARC and these are my own opinions. I am not required to leave a positive review.

Arson, Old Lace and Murder (Book 8 of The Charlie Kingsley Mysteries) by Michele Pariza Wacek goes hard. The book cover is fire and the title is cheeky, setting the scene and tone before the story even begins. And begin it does, with a fiery spectacle that engages the reader, much like Charlie, to want to find out what’s going on. Amidst the obvious dangers, secrecy, strange happenings and fear about what is truly happening and who’s responsible for the fire we find out more about the inhabitants of Redemption and a mystery that plagues them to this day.

Michele Pariza Wacek doesn’t miss with Charlie, and this novel is no exception. It has all the coziness that Redemption can provide with Charlie’s teas and quirky residents, alongside that niggling feeling in the back of your mind that something isn’t quite right. There’s no shortage of hijinks, suspense and Wyle/Charlie interaction.

Come for the mystery and stay for the tea with a side of subtly creepy and a whopping punch of intensity, bad decisions and the consequences of character’s actions. If you like the Charlie Kingsley Mysteries you definitely won’t be disappointed!

This was such an intriguing mystery that I had a hard time putting it down. Thankfully we were on spring break so I was able to read during the day.

I’ve read all of the Redemption Detective Agency Mysteries and adore them, so it is fun to be back in the area. And Charlie is a first rate sleuth – thoughtful and so brave. She’s not afraid to go where others won’t.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the setting – both of Charlie’s house and her teas, and of the cold Wisconsin streets where Charlie explores alone. The writing does an excellent job conveying both the creepy and cozy in such a balanced way.

There is so much unsaid about the decades old mystery Charlie is investigating, and I felt for Charlie as she tried to dig through secrecy. Sometimes I wanted to shout at those keeping the secrets.

The mystery really picks up the pace towards the end and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The ending is most satisfying and I am anxious to get my hands on the next book in the series when it comes out. For now, I am going to go back and catch up on the others in the series I’ve missed.

I did appreciate the author’s note at the end about how her series are connected and the vibe for each.

In 1888 all of the adults disappeared and no one knows what happened or why it happened. Redemption is an odd, quirky town so it adds to the mystery of it.

It is now the 1990s and Charlie is driving home when she spies smoke, she has a bad feeling and goes to the source of the smoke. Turns out it was a bar on fire! She goes straight to work and tries to see if anyone needs help. She soon sees a girl trapped and she is able to help her out, only to find out she's pregnant. Once the cops and fire department show up the pregnant girl disappears and Charlie is told to go home. This is just the top of the iceberg, since Charlie is new to Redemption she doesn't understand the curse surrounding the town. When others are talking about the curse she is quick to brush it off only to feel cold randomly. There has to be a rational reasoning around all of this, right? You should read this story to find out!

I have read all of the Redemption Detective Agency books and while this was my first Charlie Kingsley book I LOVED how the characters from the RDA played a role in this one. I loved the thriller side of the mystery 'cause I have been in that type of mood lately.

I've never read this series and now I need to go back and read them all because it was such a good book.
Charlie crafts teas for local residents and is also known for being an amateur sleuth. There is this fascinating history regarding some locals that belong to a smaller and more closed off community. I'm such a sucker for books that have these small and secretive communities, it is so fascinating to me.
Charlie is a mostly likeable and strong female. My only gripes are the grumpy male romantic interest (why is he always grumpy and why do women want a grumpy partner?) and the strong female main character that knowingly puts herself in danger. I know it makes for more tension in the book when someone is in danger, but does it always have to be a woman knowingly walking into it without any means of protecting themselves?
Overall, I enjoyed the book, which I received an adavnced copy of. It was interesting from start to finish and had good pacing. I really enjoyed the secretive community and the backstory on that- so interesting. This is a book you'll want to read in one sitting. It's a page turner.

Thanks to @themichelepw for the generous gift of this e-book. I am always happy to support indie authors.

This is Book 8 in the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Having read some of Michele’s other books, I’m always charmed by the small-town vibe of Redemption, Wisconsin, and its memorable characters.

Right from the start, this story drew me in with its delightful blend of small-town charm, intriguing mystery, and quirky characters. The town is shrouded in secrets and ancient legends, adding an irresistible layer of intrigue.

Charlie is an amateur sleuth who, despite her reluctance to get involved in the arson and murder of a local resident, finds herself unable to resist the pull of the investigation. Her journey through the mystery was engaging, and the characters, especially those quirky personalities, added a touch of fun.

It’s a quick, satisfying read, and I found myself sympathizing with Charlie as she navigated her friends’ anger at her meddling.

If you enjoy mysteries set in charming small towns with compelling stories, this book is perfect for you. It’s available now and worth the read.

I received an advanced reader copy, but the opinion of the work is mine. 3.5. Stars, rounded up. Charlie sells custom blended teas from out of her home. While delivering her tea to a client in rural Redemption, she sees a building in flames. She stopped to see if anyone needed help and found a young, pregnant woman calling for help. Charlie helps her out before the firemen arrive but when she looks around, the woman is gone. Thus begins her adventure into the dark history of the town of redemption and the 1888ers.
A cozy mystery, the book was an easy read . The premise of the book was promising. The character of Charlie is well developed. However, I was very confused about some of the other characters in the book and their relationship to Charlie. There is a little backstory on Charlie or the tension between her and Wyle. Because this is a series, Readers, who follow it would know a lot more than those who just start this book. If you were looking for a casual, easy read that will keep your interest and entertain you, then I would recommend it.

A suspicious fire at a bar on the "wrong" side of town thrusts Charlie Kingsley, a tea crafter by trade, into the role of arson investigator. With the inhabitants, known as "the 1888ers", gun-shy of the police, Charlie is the reluctant bridge between the two worlds. But, with the emergence of a cult-like association, the danger moves from being knowledgeable to being redlined. Can Charlie crack the case before harm befalls her?

Charlie's back, and I couldn't be happier to see her! This mystery is the eighth in the Charlie Kingsley mystery series. It's one of my favourites as it balances paranormal and cosy in perfect harmony.

Without giving too much away, within the book is a beautifully tied-up mystery and allusions to past events. You can read this story as a standalone, but you'd be missing the rich history of the main character.

Thank you to Michele Pariza Wacek and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. As always, my opinions are my own, honest and true.

Review of advance copy received from Author

Arson, Old Lace and Murder is the 8th book in the Charlie Kingsley cozy mystery series by Michele Pariza Wacek. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. In this book Charlie stumbles across a burning building and saves a pregnant woman from the fire, but is unable to save the owner of the building Arthur. When the pregnant woman disappears with Charlie's coat and money, and the police do not want to investigate the fire or missing person, Charlie decides to solve the case herself. In this book Charlie teams up with characters from author's other series, The Redemption Detective Agency series, which is fun to read. While the book is part of a series you can definitely read this as a stand-alone book. However, I feel the book would be more enjoyable if you read the entire series. The mystery is resolved in the end, however the ending suggests that Charlie's life is going to change. If you enjoy easy to read, cozy mystery stories, I highly recommend this series and book.

This is another great installment in the Charlie Kingsley mystery series.

Charlie is a tea seller, but she somehow keeps getting pulled into investigations in her town. She has no intention of getting involved in an arson case which also resulted in a murder, but she finds herself right in the middle of it.

I love this series. Charlie is so observant and brilliant. She also cares about others, so she is more than your average amateur sleuth. This mystery takes some wild and wicked turns as buried secrets secrets from one side of this town come to life. I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite characters as I already feel like I know them personally. I was introduced to some very quirky (maybe even odd) new characters as well.

There is a definite chill factor in this mystery as the past comes to light and more unhinged characters are introduced.

Cozy mystery lovers who enjoy puzzles will love this one.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
