Dreams and Nightmares: Brysheer's Story

Rate this book
Brysheer has had his share of complications, and for the most part, he has sworn them off.

That is until he lays eyes on her in his uncle's bar while his toddler is toddler-ing. With nothing serious in mind, he still feels the need to know her. So he pulls an Aro…forcing his way in, but he's slow to realize not everyone reacts well to being pushed. Especially not her.

Krisis is damaged…or so she thinks, so she's afraid to embark on the journey set forth for her future. She finds herself standing in her own way…that is, until she encounters the brash, outspoken man who doesn't take no for an answer. There is no highway with him. It's either his way or no way. All in all, they meet. They encounter one another, and life begins to do its thing. Will past wreckages meld their building stage, or is there too much mud in the water for the building bricks of a foundation?

BIG BRY!! Brysheer!!! You were everything I didn’t expect. We met Brysheer in Interference which is Aroyal’s story and now that we got his own story. I was hooked. Brysheer was exactly who we were introduced to. Not hard but stands on business, loving and sweet, a provider and a protector. Brysheer ends up a single father and he made sure Riley lacked for nothing physically and emotionally. Seeing him grow was refreshing.

Brysheer met Krisis who had her guard up due to her ex. Y’all the way the 2 of them swore they wasn’t gon like each other and it would only be one night. Chyyyyyyyyy they was boff lying. Seeing Bry put down on Krisis was priceless, because no matter how much she fought him, he wasn’t letting her slip through his fingers. Learning about how his brother continuously tried to hurt him sucked because sir that is your brother. I digress.

Loved how Krisis got everything she was missing from Bry. He came in and healed her with actions and not words. He loved her even when she didn’t think she’d allow another man to get that close and she stood on business and didn’t allow anyone to play her. Another banger Kennedy!!!

Bry was actually really likable, and he was such a girls dad. I loved how he was coming behind Krisis.

I struggled with what to rate this, but I think I’ve landed on 3 stars. Over all for what we did get, this was cool for what it was. Brysheer and Krisis were cute. I was very stuck on there names, especially Krisis’s name but that’s neither here nor there I guess lol. He knew he wanted her from the first glance and he didn’t let up. I like that energy. For as hard as she was going with the “I don’t want to be with anyone” thing she sure let him in with zero fight but do your thing girl lol
Their spice was cool and I liked seeing the relationship grow between Krisis and Riley. And I liked her sister and his friend Aro.
Other than that though, I was let down by everything else unfortunately.
- There was no big love declaration.
- For my reviews I like to include my favorite quote or quotes at the top, and looking back I didn’t have one highlighted.
- Plot points that were very obvious that they needed to be addressed and concluded were left unfinished (Louisiana and the “maybe” baby, Krisis’s ex never came back up and Bry never met/dealt with him, unless I missed it they never found out for sure if Krisis was pregnant.)
- the book ended abruptly and just felt unfinished and didn’t give HEA vibes at all
An extended epilogue or something was definitely needed.

Well, she did it again!

Brysheer grabbed my attention in Aroyal’s book. And I was definitely one of those fans in the DM asking for this book. She didn’t disappoint.

I wish there was more. I wanted Dean handled, but at the same time- I’m happy the story focused on the development of their relationship. I love how nothing changed even after Ariya’s decision. Her family remained his family and supported him. Despite it being a sad situation, I couldn’t believe she did that towards the end.

I’m thinking we might see more of Kinga, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.

Good but an abrupt end

I loved the book but the abrupt end wasn’t it for me. I felt like there was still so much to tell… an epilogue would’ve been good but really a “to be continued…” would’ve been best because some things felt unanswered. But nope, there was only a sudden *The End*.

This was supposed to be my palate cleanser and on paper, this had the ingredients: single dad, street-to-legit hustle, ambitious heroine, some danger, possessive heat, and a man trying to build something better for his daughter.

I liked the idea of Brysheer trying to step out of one life and build another. I liked Krisis as a woman with her own money, her own plans, her own anxiety, her own hustle. I liked the single dad element. I liked Riley. I liked the potential of a heroine who is surviving, studying, working, building, and still trying to figure out what safety looks like after leaving something ugly behind.

But the execution just did not hold together for me.

There is so much plot here and so many names, but very little of it actually settles into a real arc. The brother drama, the cop pressure, the snitching, Dean, the pregnancy scare, Navae, Ariya, the business stuff, the family baggage — it all keeps entering the room, making noise, and then disappearing before it can carry real emotional weight. It felt less like a layered story and more like a stack of conflict buttons being pressed one after another. Maybe it was the length that limited this, but maybe the author should have tried to focus more on character and relationship arcs instead of trying to establish the right vibes?!

Because, when I boil this down, the romance was my biggest struggle. The heat is obvious, but the why of them never fully clicked for me. Krisis is attracted to him, Brysheer is protective and intense, and there are sweet domestic moments with Riley, food, business encouragement, and care. But I needed more than chemistry, and him constantly “handling things”. I wanted an actual relationship arc. I wanted to understand why these two specifically worked beyond spice, safety, and proximity. This is obviously not nothing (!), but it also never went beyond the superficial.

One of my biggest irritations was, however, the way one past pregnancy storyline was framed. No matter how messy the situation is, it felt almost entirely written as something done to him. The complexity of that situation never really gets space. It becomes a shortcut for his pain, and I just do not love when something that loaded is used mainly to deepen a male character’s wound.

I also struggled with the ending. It is abrupt in a way that made the whole book feel unfinished. Major danger is handled quickly, emotional consequences barely land, and then suddenly we are in HEA territory before the relationship itself feels properly built. Krisis starts as this hustling, independent woman fighting to stand fully on her own feet, and by the end, the support/control line got blurry for me.

The audiobook did save parts of this. The narration gave the dialogue more life, made the chemistry easier to stay with, and carried me through moments where the structure itself was not doing enough.

So yes, this had moments. It had ingredients. It had heat. It had a few dynamics I usually enjoy. But as a romance, it felt too surface-level, too crowded, and too rushed to rate it any higher.

Yessssss Bry!!😘

They just keep getting better and better. Although each book has ended in a major cliffhanger we do get to follow up with the characters in the next book.
Great book and I loved Bry!!!! He is definitely that dude, love a man that knows what he wants.
Krisis definitely had a past but she didn’t let that hold her back. She was careful with her heart but not to the point where she was annoying.

There has to be more to Brysheer's story. I really like this one. Crisis found the love she deserves. The brother was a real piece of trash, but over all this was a decent read.

Kinga need his own story too!

Brysheer is definitely book Bae, I love how much he loves Krisis and Riley. Also I'm still down bad over Aroyal and all his craziness. My hopes are for Krisis and Bry to get married and for Kry to adopt Riley and give Bry his starting five. Kennedy can literally do no wrong in my book this was a 5/5.

Bry & Kry

This nigga said you mine and Dassit! No other options! The perfect amount of assertive and not full on controlling. Kinda mad Dean didn’t bring his ass to try to do something stupid so Bry could handle him. But i loved Brysheer’s relationship with Riley and her family. That Ariya…pissed me off but she’s a non factor anyways so whatevs.
Loved how Bry said he wasn’t a touchy feely nigga but he touched on Krisis every moment he could. All in all, great read; i just wanted more. I wanna know about their baby, her graduation, all their successes, how they thrived together!

started off good

This book started off really good and that’s the only reason for the 2 stars. Every chapter after maybe the first two were repeats of the last chapter. The story never moved along. The MMC was annoying asf. I love a man that applies pressure but he was CLINGY and treated her like she was a child. He didn’t listen to her about anything. I mean the author said he listened to her and cared about her dreams but I only seen one time he asked her what she was in school for and what she wanted to do with her degree. He helped her pick out her station. He was saying how she had a beautiful mind and was so smart, but other than saying she was in school for business admin, idk where he got that from. What other conversations did they have? It was said the couple had a lot of conversations, but those weren’t included in the story, not where the reader could see she had a beautiful mind and was sooo smart. A lot of the parts were confusing, he asked her to go out on Friday, which insinuated that Friday was a week away. In the same paragraph he said u better be ready tonight. She got to talking about how they had been talking and texting the whole week up until that night. There were some other examples but I won’t list them all. He was overbearing imo, the girl couldn’t even have lunch with her sister without him interrupting.

When I stopped reading to go read some reviews I found out the story didn’t even have a good ending. We never find out if she pregnant, and nothing ever came about with her ex. So yea I’m glad I didn’t finish this story. It was quite boring and all they did was repeat, repeat, repeat.

2.75/5⭐️ Bry came across as delusional and bossy rather than protective. His behavior felt childish, full of tantrums, and more clingy and possessive than genuinely caring, which made it hard for me to connect with his character.

There was very little emotional connection between Bry and Krisis. Most of their time together revolved around sex, and for a relationship that supposedly developed over the course of a month, it felt shallow and rushed. The instant love trope isn’t really my thing, and it didn’t work for me here.

I’ve enjoyed another book by this author, which is why this one was disappointing. I understand this is fiction and I’m all for book world logic, but the story still felt unrealistic. I honestly wanted to DNF after the first two chapters, but I pushed through because there were moments that were mildly interesting.

By the time I completed 200 pages, the story felt incomplete. A lot was missing there wasn’t enough depth, development, or substance to fully flesh out either the plot or the characters. Overall, it needed much more build-up to feel like a complete and satisfying story.

There were also several details that didn’t make sense. Krisis is going to school, working at a restaurant , and owns two buildings or properties, yet her car has supposedly been in the shop the entire time with no loaner am I missing something? And what exactly was his brother trying to snitch about? Those plot points felt underdeveloped and confusing.

In the end, while the book had some interesting elements, it lacked depth, realism, and emotional connection, which made it hard for me to fully enjoy.

I loved Brysheer’s growth in this story. He really got his mess together, and you could see the shift clearly. Having his daughter with Ariyal ended up being a blessing in disguise. It forced him to mature and step into who he needed to be.
Now Ariyal… she was trifling, and I already clocked that back in Aroyal’s book. Nothing about her surprised me.

But Brysheer? When it came to Krisis, he stood on BUSINESS. No confusion, no games, no back and forth. He was direct and intentional ..“you mine, I’m yours, we forever.” Period. And I loved that for them.

What made this story hit is that it wasn’t just romance. It was growth, security, and stepping up when it matters. Brysheer didn’t just talk it, he showed it.
Overall, this was a solid mix of drama, love, and character development, and I’m here for every bit of it.

Single daddy trope! Read it now.

Oh, how I love a single daddy trope. Bry is a great dad who loves his daughter unconditionally. His absent baby mother is pure trash. Bry is the MMC, and Krisis is the FMC. These two are cute together. From the moment Bry saw Krisis, he knew that he would pursue her. Krisis was a little bull headed because of the past trauma from her last relationship. That didn't stop Bry pursuit. After that second encounter they had at his uncle restaurant Bry took her home 🌶🌶🌶. From that moment on, bry didn't let up. I really enjoyed this read, and I wanted more.

* This is a whole universe, and I am reading out of order. The author had the right order to read it in on her ⏰️ app page.

I wanted more… is this finna be a series? It was too short, the plot was banging and the sex scenes… yea. Ugh Ms. Author I need a second book or something.

Brysheer did not play about his woman and his daughter. I love when a black man show a black woman who have been done wrong in the past that THIS IS HOW YOU LOVE!

Krisis, all she ever wanted was love and she got it. Brysheer showed her. I was hoping a little resistance cause I do love a nice slow burn. But baby ain’t nothing wrong giving it up on the first night… cause I was ready to open mines…

This story was a quick read before starting a series to finish out this month.

Book was good - spicy and so cute. However, I felt like we were missing some things or things felt flat maybe? For example, what happened with Dean? He just walked away? The character build didn’t seem like that was likely. Did Navae have something to share that was hidden? Is Lou gone be his opp? Did Krisis meet the twin? Did she get the dang car back? Was it more to Ariya that made her this way? Idk, just felt like stuff that was mentioned left more to be desired. Still loved their love story. Also wish the end gave more - like okay I’m in love with the characters now, I want to see this thing through too lol. My first read by Mrs. Kennedy!

Nice very nice

This standalone is so lit. Bry and Kry are meant to be. Babygirl Riley and Shon, the dog is like brother and sister he didn't play about her or kry. Her ex was a peace of work. I wish he could have been handled, too, but I don't think he is gonna come to Chow Town. Ayo momma is a good Nana. She is there for all of her grandkids. Bry ex tryna get back with him cause she knows he's doing good for himself. I think we need to know if kinga some kin to ayo. U did good on yet another book and I'm looking forward to reading more of them. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and while eating popcorn while waiting on the next book to read

Dreams and Nightmares:Brysheer's Story

What just happened? I'm reading and all of a sudden "The End"! Where they do that at? Talk about short and sweet. I loved everything about Bry and Krisis. Bry applied pressure out the gate. He wasn't taking any shorts when it came to Kry. He was heavy and intentional with everything pertaining to her and the relationship between them. He loved his daughter and wanted to make sure she was loved no matter what.

I was hoping that Bry and Dean would meet, but I guess that's not happening. All in all, this is a very good book.

Dreams & Nightmares

I absolutely loved Brysheer. He set his eyes on our girl Khrisis & didn’t stop til he did what he said he’d do: make her fall in love. Her ex did her so well ring she was afraid to fully invest in herself. Yes she was an entrepreneur & went to school but with the support of her sister & Bry she was able to get it back right. Little. Miss Ari was a delight & I want a Shon now lol. I do hate that we didn’t fully tackle Dean but as for the brother, BM & Navae, they got shooed off! I loved this read!

I found Brysheer and Krisis's love story to be quite enjoyable, and the narrative resonated with me. It brought to mind Kinga's story, yet it was still beautifully written. All three of these individuals possess a confident and assertive demeanor while also displaying affection. I particularly appreciated Krisis's strength and her ability to seize the moment. It was an absolute pleasure to read your books.

this was good typical love at first sight deal with brysheer and krisis. i hated how his BM treated him and their daughter like that was just childish smh 🤦🏽‍♀️. the love krisis gave his daughter she wasn’t even needed to be in her life sucks to say though. krisis didn’t want to like that man so bad that she ended up liking him anyway which was cute.

Great read 👍🏽

Brysheer’s story touched my heart. Seeing his growth from Aroyal and Kaydence’s story was amazing. He went from being a whole hoe, to being a father looking out for his loved ones and managing his businesses. At first I didn’t see the connection between Bry and Krysis but she was perfect for him.

I enjoyed Bry and Krisis' story. I do feel there were a few loose ends that could've been tied up like Krisis ex, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story. I love how Bry stepped up and was the ultimate girl dad. He was serious about his intentions when it came to Krisis no matter how much she tried to run.

Sweet read

Brushed & Krisis!!! Instant attraction. Love at first/second conversation. Bry was smooth, determined and intentional. Krisis was emotionally scared, and not looking for anything. Both not wanting to fall in love, but can't resist they fill with each other.

Seemed a little rushed but I enjoyed it. I haven't read the other books but the author did a good job of explaining what was going on with the side characters from other books. I wish we were given a little more romance between the Brysheer and Krisis.

The story was beautiful but the book ended. This was a beautiful story about two broken people who needed love, but had to learn to trust again. However, it needed more pages or a book two. I still have some unanswered questions.
