Warrior: Rebels of the Undead MC, Book 1

Lyric

I fell in love with him when we were kids. He promised me forever when we were teenagers. Months later, he left me without a care in the world.

One week during senior year was all it took for Colt Street to decide I was no longer what he wanted. Then, just like his brother, Colt took off for the military, leaving the life we longed for behind.

Ten years later, he's back, changed, and ready to protect me with his life. When I asked for help from the local MC, a favor that was owed, I never thought the Rebels would send my ex-boyfriend as a bodyguard. The second his dark eyes find me, scared and hiding in my closet, those old sparks ignite. Except I'm not the girl he left behind. We're both not who we once were...and I don't know if we ever will be.

Colt

Running into Lyric Taylor again was a stroke of luck, a second chance at fate. It also brought back the reality of the situation I put us in all those years ago when we were kids.

I left when my world came crashing down. Instead of letting her know what was going on, I chose to run and leave her behind, breaking both of our hearts in the worst way possible.

This time, I won't make the same mistake. When my club president asks for help protecting Lyric, I volunteer. When I find her, hiding and scared, I vow to fix everything from our past and earn her trust again. Only she's different. Lyric isn't the same girl I left behind. Too bad for her, the woman she is now is everything I crave.

She's guarded. I'm broken. Danger is waiting to tear us apart, and I'm ready to put my life on the line. Whether she accepts it or not, I will always be her warrior.

This novel was previously released as part of Corinne Michael's The Salvation Society and has since undergone major edits and changes to set it apart from the original world it took place in. Lyric and Colt's love story has been changed and expanded on while also remaining true to the original story.

Lyric and Colt were high school sweethearts who always imagined a future together until Colt abruptly joined the military, leaving Lyric heartbroken and without answers. Now he's back, assigned to protect her from a new threat, and determined to right the wrongs of their past. Though time and pain have passed between them, his love for her never faded and this time, he’s not walking away.

I adored Colt’s fierce protectiveness and his determination to make things right. His growth and vulnerability made their second chance all the more powerful. Allie Piper and Scott Rose were phenomenal as Lyric and Colt, their chemistry was palpable, and they beautifully captured the tenderness of every stage of their relationship.

It’s a touching, emotional journey that perfectly captures the power of second chances. Definitely add it to your TBR, you won’t regret it!

Thank you, Ashton Brooks for the ALC.

Warrior has officially become my favorite Ashton Brooks book! I can't believe how fast I devoured the audiobook and how much I enjoyed Colt & Lyric's story: I loved the way the author told this couple's love, showing me their past and present, breaking my heart, and giving me such charming characters to love, especially Zane, who I can't wait to read about in this series.

I think it's safe to say that Colt is also my favorite male character by the author, his personal story is completely heartbreaking because he seems to go from one tragedy to another, and it was heartbreaking to read how his family was slowly falling apart, how he endured his father's psychological abuse, and how he found refuge in his friendship with Zane & Lyric, Something that surprised me was how much I empathized with this character when he made that decision that changed everything because it's evident that he's just a boy trying to do things the best he can, especially because he's alone and lost thanks to the circumstances he had to live through. I also loved the way Ashton led Colt's story to the Rebels of the Undead MC and how they were what he needed when his life changed again.

Lyric is a character who, although for different reasons, experiences complicated situations too, and that's why I wanted to hug her and comfort her at many moments throughout the book. I think what broke my heart the most was reading how betrayed she felt by Zane's lies because of how much she cares for him and values their friendship, and because it was completely unexpected for me to read this girl lose at the same time the two people who were always by her side. But despite that, I loved that Ashton also gave her moments of happiness in college, that she found her way in life after being so lost, and that she fulfilled her dreams because she deserves it after all that suffering.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was that the author showed me the ENTIRE story of Colt & Lyric from the beginning! I LOVED learning about that first moment between them: how Lyric somehow comforted Colt during the worst day of his life and how her friendship with the boys began. And what can I say about that moment when Colt finally takes the next step and their friendship evolves into romantic love: those moments were absolutely charming, funny, and a little heartbreaking because of everything surrounding Colt's family. And obviously when Colt breaks Lyric's heart and it all seems over, it was really painful to read them both going through it, but I really liked that the author showed me those moments too. Also, I really liked that unexpected reunion because Colt is finally ready to admit his mistakes and tell Lyric what really happened.

Story - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spice - 🌶🌶
Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Warrior is book #1 in the Rebels of the Undead MC series. Kolt and Lyric were childhood friends, then high school sweethearts...until they weren't. A decade later, Lyric is being threatened and looks to her MC friends for help. What she doesn't know is that Kolt is now a part of that brotherhood. First, how can I not love a story that is based practically in my backyard?? I can totally relate to all this small-town life, gossip, and need to spread your wings to find your future (even if it does bring you right back to where you started). Second, Ms. Brooks writes characters that could be your friends and/or family with normal, everyday situations and struggles. She also knows how to make your heart soar, rip it apart, then piece it slowly back together again. And it's delicious. Finally, we get a LOT of tropes that I love...MC, protective MMC, guarded FMC, judgy small-town, second chance romance, slow-building spice with broken main characters...LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I'm so excited for the rest of this series!

The dual narration was absolutely fantastic. Scott Rose delivered the broody, broken, super protective Kolt with perfection. Allie Piper is a top narrator for me, so I knew the guarded, fiesty Lyric was going to be southern gold! These two were perfectly cast...5/5 Roll Tide stars!!

Argh another book about a doormat fml and a coward mml. This book is very telling, so don’t expect to feel any emotions towards these character except annoyance. I hate how cocky the mml is, constantly smirking, calling her baby and showing her the bare minimum when he broke her heart and left her for 10 YEARS while sleeping around with multiple woman. He had no intentions of reaching out to her but all of a sudden now that they’re together again, a pitiful sorry and all is good? The fml was even worse, she was fine to jump back in his arms as soon as she saw him despite her being a mess for years after he broke up with her. The relationship she had with the other guy was just slapped in there with no connection. She didn’t sound like she was all that cut up about his passing. This book is just all bad. 10 years later should have been 2 months since it still seems like they’re in high school. If you’re reading this review, take my advice and don’t waste your time with this book. I had low expectations going in to this, but was curious since i saw this on tiktok . Its bad lol

This was my first introduction to Ashton Brooks but I received an arc of the second one and wanted to be up to date on the series first. While I found it interesting that most of the book was actually taken up by their initial relationship, and the second chance sttTted much later, I still enjoyed it.
