Transfusion Saga #3

Blood of Kings: Vampire Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
Amelia…
So, there were many things I could have done differently.
I could have gone on a cruise and forget about stealing a killer box from a Vampire King.
I could have shaved my head and become a Tibetan monk.
I could have also lost my virginity to some nice Texas cowboy who wanted to introduce me to his mother.
But instead, I went to Germany and ended up fighting Mercenaries. I also fell in love with a Vampire King who claimed me as his. And now I’m in the river and all because I decided not to just stay home and do my laundry.

No instead… I shot a pilot.

Well, that went downhill fast. DNF @ 64%. The Vampire King who has been around for over a millenia all of a sudden speaks in way! too! many! exclamations! like a teenager. The conversations are juvenile in tone. The plot is dragging and I'm bored. Oh well.

Fight off mercenaries sent to abduct her, shoot the pilot of the helicopter she's in during said abduction, survive freezing water temp after jumping into the Isar River to escape said helicopter before it blows up, only to have to save the very person intent on saving her. His royal highness Vampire King Lucius.

Amelia Draven might be Lucian's chosen but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

* * * * *

This is the 3rd installment in the "Transfusion" series that features an uber possessive vampire king and his fated mate dealing with a few bumps in the road when some unknown entity continues to create havoc in an ongoing attempt to become the new king of the vampires/paranormals.

Expect kick ass heroine butting heads with an overly possessive socially repressed ancient vampire. Expect cultural shock when said heroine introduces fuddy duddy Lucian to Indiana Jones, Star Wars & Star Trek, Legos, Nickelback, and other cultural icons as he tries to demand she adjust to his lifestyle and act like the queen she is to be. I so love scenarios like this, especially when you and I know who's gonna win that war.

Secondary characters. Be still my beating heart. Hakan, Clay, Caspian, Liessa. Take your pick but if I'm buying I want them all. They add the foil to the world building. Each having a different personality that plays well to the main characters and situations.

Going to add that this isn't a standalone book. The series builds off the preceding installment. My one regret additionally is that I recommend is to read the climatic action/adventure ending of "Venom of God" #2 in the series to fully appreciate the first 10% of this book.

Personally, I'm a biggie fan of this series. the sexual tension, battle of the sexes, and sex make it a delight from start to finish. The only downer is that it ends on a cliffhanger/to be continued ending. Guess I need to renew the stalking until the Feb 21, 2020 release next installment.

I'm not into stories about men trying to control their partner. It was also there in the first two books of the series, but I was hoping it will be toned down. Unfortunately, this was not the case in this book, quite the opposite.

Worst book ever

This book is -1 star. That's being generous .
The writer went off on tangent after tangent. Was there ever an editor? Was this self published?

Is there a plot line? This is a poorly written ramble and the quality of writing just awful. I do wonder if the reason that S.Hudson decided to move into publishing was because this was the only way to get these 'novels' (I use the term loosely) published??

The main character is supposed to be 27 ? I would question this as it reads as a juvenile drivel. As for Lucius - these books have left me disliking this character more and more.

This is such a shame as the series of books could have been a strong spin off. I for one wont be reading any further chapters in this series.

Only made it to 40%

I loved the other 2 books, I smashed them out in 2 days. This 3rd book however felt like it was written by someone else. Lucius dialogue was like a 16yr old girl, he was so annoying and immature. What happened to the sexy vamp from books 1 and 2?
I had to stop reading half way through the car ride to the castle, it just went on and on and on.
It was cringe worthy

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish this book tbh. I can’t stand the thought of a man controlling me so damn much. She can’t even get up in the middle of the night to pee without waking him? Like what the hell? No thank you. I like a strong man but I also like a strong man who respects a strong independent woman

Love the story, hate the writing

I've persevered in reading these books because the story and characters are worth it. The writing makes me crazy. Has no one edited these books? I'm not finding typos but the use of extraneous words is ridiculous. I've never seen so many extra words thrown into sentences before. During action scenes it's not as bad but when the characters are having inner dialogues it goes on and ON! Several pages of thoughts while the character is having a conversation with someone...how does that work? You just pause for 10 minutes to have the most wordy internal conversation with yourself while the other person stands there waiting? So many "as well" and "therefore" and extra words that no one would use in a spoken sentence or when thinking to themselves. Your could probably drop 100 pages off the book by simply editing out the useless words that make for a slogging difficult read.

Where oh where did my sassy heroine go!? While there are some moments of brilliance with the whole jumping out of the helicopter, mugging a guy to steal his dirt bike sequence, the remainder of the book felt like it went from one sex scene to another. The first book in the series was by far the best, though I just downloaded the newly-released #4 in the series in hopes of vindication for the female lead. Cross your fingers, all!

The POV switch in this book was better executed; although there was still a lot of repetition. Unfortunately this doesn’t redeem what is just an OK book for me; and one I found myself skimming over towards the end ... this is the end of the series for me I am afraid.

You had me laughing and smiling as much as I was saying holy shit.
How you have written this is truly remarkable
Now I have to say this was my favorite. It didn't even take me 2 days to finish Blood of Kings. I loved the softer side of Lucis and was excited to see the badass side of Amelia.
Amazing read

Honestly, I don't even know why I'm still reading this series when a MUCH anticipated book is going to be released tomorrow and I NEED to read it.
But surprisingly, this story just keeps getting better, and better!

Not sure about this one

I enjoy the vampire mystery storyline within the first few books, however, every other page involves sex. I'm not knocking sex scenes but tell a story and let the sex become secondary.

Holy smokes

So once again the book gets better
A few mushy scenes but a whole heck of a lot of action some questions answered some more posed and what an ending

Only negative is there is some typos (you instead of your etc) but I just ignored them they didn’t take from the story
The scenes are written so well that you can clearly see them played out in your mind
I loved It onto book 4

Disappointed

Repeated text not great. Again to much detail on clothing, to much sex. Storyline starts to have no build up in development, predictable. No surprises anymore. Expensive and less pages to read. This was my last book in this series I bought.
It started really good like it is in most long series, Shane really.

Not as good as first 2

Really enjoyed the first 2 books however this one really went down hill. There was no real story to it after the start but after that it was all about how much they could get each othe into bed all the time. Amelia just lacked a mind of her own as everything he said she did. Struggled to finish it. Not sure I want to continue series.

Good story line

I like the story and the steamy scenes however they get a bit much, it's basically sex sleep repeat. For most of the book.

I want story with a side of sex scenes not the other way round

Blood of Kings is the 3rd book in the Transfusion Saga by Stephanie Hudson.

That dang little box has been more trouble than it's worth. Ever since Amelia's father put it in her hands it brought nothing but trouble into her life. Yes, the box helped Amelia's relationship with Lucius bloom into this romance of epic proportions, and yet, there's nothing about that dang box that I can like. It's more trouble than it is worth.

This book picks up right where Venom of the Gods ended. Amelia had been kidnapped but thankfully her Draven training allowed her to escape, at least kind of. She really didn't fully think through falling half naked from a helicopter that was in flight and with out a parachute non-the-less. A lot of people wouldn't say that is really an escape, but for Amelia, that deathly fall served as her escape.

Needless to say Lucius does not take Amelia's abduction and disappearance all that well. We see through all his actions moving forward that his actions reflect how he feels that he had the inability to protect his own chosen one, and this create the perfect action and atmosphere that their relationship needed. Their relationship had been growing stagnant and was at a standstill and this new atmosphere allows their relationship the air it need to grow and develop further.

The character development that Stephanie has given us in this book was stunning. We get to see the unseen layers of Lucius, they not only unfurl quickly but we also get the chance to see new layers be created all due to Amelia's brilliance. Amelia is nothing but always herself in every way and that itself is the key to unlocking Lucius, the strongest Alpha male character this series has seen.

We see the Container of Chaos, the dang little box that Amelia's father handed her, has attracted Layla, yes the same Layla from the Afterlife Saga, and Laya has sponsors and these people are constantly putting Amelia at risk.

The relationship between Lucius and Amelia is somewhat turbulent and Amelia finds herself bedevilled by secrets and all these hidden agendas that she hasn't been privy too. We also get too see laughter, passion, and the start of a much deeper understanding between Lucius and Amelia.

Stephanie has given us yet another stunning example of what happens when comedy, adventure, and romance are united and what they can ignite in a reader and I found that for me, this was an excitement for the rest of the series and a want for more and a knowledge of what happens next.

I was actually more impressed with this book than the other two. Finally, we've moved past all of the back and forth, push and pull between Lucius and Amelia. I got bored listening to her constantly questioning everything he said and did after a while with the first book and a half, and I'm so glad that part of the series is over with. I didn't know that there's a fourth book that hasn't been released yet (on Audible, anyway), and I look forward to it coming out. About 1/2 way through this one I wondered if I'd regret listening to this and end up returning it since the author has a habit of droning on with a lot of needless inner dialogue and flashbacks that, while sometimes useful to the plot, are often oversaturated with unimportant details to the extent that I sped up the narration to get past it as quickly as possible. Thankfully, this book cut down on those ramblings (she must have gotten a better editor or the one she had finally woke up and realized s/he was dropping the ball). Another thing I worried about was that it was going to be oversaturated with sex scenes after making the audience wait so long, and while there were a lot, they were done tastefully in terms of placement and it didn't make the story feel drowned by sex. Lucius has come a long way in his treatment of Amelia, and while he seems a tad unrealistic to me in his speech and mannerisms for a demon/vampire king, I just shrugged it off because hey, it's just a book, right? The fantasy is what we're paying for! Regardless, this one drew me in, especially toward the end. The cliffhanger we're left on really got me good and made me want to listen to the next book since we're FINALLY going to get a big reveal. I'm not sure if the fourth book is going to be the last, but it seems like it would be a good stopping point. I'm hoping the author doesn't milk the series to 6 or 7 books since it really doesn't need that to tie up all the loose ends and leave us feeling satisfied with the outcome. One more book with some big revelations shared and pasts explained, and I'll be a happy camper overall. I'm pleasantly surprised, since sometimes when I listen to a series all at once like this I get bored and I started to with this one but the author managed to pull me back in and keep me there for the second half of the book, which I really respected. I can't wait to see what happens with the big bad box and hopefully finally learn about Lucius' mysterious history! I give it 7/10 Lego figurines! ;)

Container of Chaos!!!

That little bastard box has been the bane of Amelia's existence since her father brought it to her! It's true the box helped Amelia's relationship with Lucius blossom into an epic tale of romance, but still....I really dislike that gods damned box!
The book picks up where VOG ended. Amelia was kidnapped but her Draven attributes allowed her to escape-ish. Falling half naked from a helicopter in flight without a parachute isn't what most would describe as an escape, but as fate would have it, Amelia's deathly fall into the river served as one!
Lucius doesn't take her abduction well to say the least! His actions moving forward reflect on his inability to protect his chosen, which creates the atmosphere their relationship needed for continued growth!
They too continue to grow as characters! Unseen layers of Lucius not only unfurl, but many new layers are created in response to Amelia's unintended brilliance! She can't help but be herself and that alone is the key to unlocking Stephanie's greatest Alpha male characters hidden persona. Maybe "hidden" isn't the word best suited for Lucius's emotional situation, but it feels like they're as much as an enigma to him as they are to Amelia!
So, the Container of Chaos continuously attracts Layla and her sponsors, which continuously puts Amelia at risk. The semi-turbulent relationship between Luc and Amelia is continuously plagued by secrets and hidden agendas, but also laughter, primal passion and the beginnings to a deeper understanding of one another! Stephanie provides another brilliant example of what comedy, adventure and romance can ignite in a reader which is for me a dose of genuine excitement and an ache for more! Well done Hudsonator!!!

Phew!!
Things are getting hot and heavy in the 3rd instalment of this saga!
Amelia is showing us that she's not someone who's going to crawl into a corner and wait to be rescued! NOPE! haha
She's def. going to surprise you - in a very good way.

I loved the comical moments and I loved seeing her handling herself way better than before!

The fighting is extremely good in this book I felt - and Lucius.... wow.... when he get's angry...he...gets...scary!! I LOVE IT!!!

The romance is def. climbing sky high and their love...will..never...die... ;)

I'm on to read book 4!

But I also found out that I really should have started with Afterlife
Afterlife (Afterlife Saga, #1) by Stephanie Hudson
...and read that whole series before starting this one...ooops? Because Afterlife is *before* Transfusion series - and is the *beginning* aka. Amelia's mum and dad.
BUT alas I started this journey not knowing that - so I might as well continue haha.

Yeah I am officially addicted to Amelia

So Amelia is everything from chicken sh** to bada**. Which makes for some really great scenes and hilarious reactions. I seriously don’t see Lucius surviving this relationship as he is now. I mean know he is vampire King and a devil in his own right. And from the sounds of it, one that could rival the devil himself but Amelia is shaking up his world.

On one hand she can take care of herself. Making sure that if she is going to die it will be on her own terms no matter what. And then she argues with Lucius and doesn’t back down unless he basically forces her too. And even then she only backs down for that moment.

The craY thing is the more she is kidnapped or held hostage she seems to discover more about her own inner strength and will. She learns just how strong she is and how much she can take. Which seems to be a lot. She is resilient above all else. But she also has her needy side. I really wish her dad, Dom, would have given her more credit and trusted that despite her being supernatural royalty but human that she could handle herself in so many situations.

THUG LIFE!! for sure. And with Lucius at her side I see them being unstoppable once it’s all said and done.

Okay so there are a lot of plot issues, like her being human and surviving all of that? The fact that the characters are acting like children and the actual fuck is this box even about.
She is a nerd I get it. Quirky, I don't need it shoved down my throat on every other page. He's a domineering vampire, I get it! I don't need a reminder every other line. Also where have our side characters gone? We seemed to have forgotten all about them?
The plot is carrying itself away and it's not really moving on and revealing itself it's just solely focused on this relationship that is definitely just a dictatorship and if that's your thing that hey you will love this but I need a bit more action and entertainment other than just two love sick teenagers.
Luckily the ending is another cliff hanger and as I've stated earlier I'm not a quitter so I will be finishing the series but I hope this next one gets a bit more plot.

This series is so amazing. This needs to be made in movies or a tv show.

I can't get enough of the pop culture references, witty comments, and all around snarkiness.

If something is going to go wrong it's going to happen to Amelia. That being said this book start out with one hang of a wild ride happening. This book is full of action and adventure like you've never read before.

Amelia is struggling to figure things out and as usual she goes about things in an odd way that is very her style. Lucius is trying to come to terms with all the things happening to his chosen one that even he is finding things difficult to deal with.

I don't want to say to much so you just have to read this book for yourself. It will not disappoint. This series is great.
