What if the love you were searching for… was always your own?
In this raw, luminous, and intentionally unpolished memoir, Heather Wild peels back the layers of co-dependency, heartbreak, single motherhood, and spiritual awakening to reveal what happens when a woman stops waiting to be chosen—and chooses herself instead.
Written as it was lived—without smoothing the edges—I Was the One I Was Waiting For captures the mess, beauty, and immediacy of real healing. Told with stunning vulnerability and poetic insight, Heather’s story follows her journey through a series of complex relationships—including toxic patterns, trauma bonds, and the false promises of romantic potential—ultimately leading to the reclamation of her self-worth, voice, and body.
From first love to failed marriage, soul friendships to seductive illusions, she invites readers into the sacred and imperfect middle of healing. With themes of anxious attachment, motherhood, embodiment, grief, and personal rebirth, this book isn’t just a story—it’s a mirror.
For any woman who’s felt unseen, unheard, or unchosen… this is your invitation to remember who you are.
You were never too much. You were never too late. You are the one you’ve been waiting for.
Heather Wild is a sensual writer, embodiment guide, and truth-teller who writes from the raw edge of healing. Her work explores the deep terrain of womanhood, grief, desire, self-worth, and becoming. Through poetic storytelling and lived experience, she gives voice to the quiet longings and loud awakenings that shape a woman’s inner life.
Her debut memoir, I Was the One I Was Waiting For, is a reclamation of self—born from the ashes of heartbreak and trauma, and rooted in the fierce love of a mother, a mystic, and a woman who no longer abandons herself.
Off the page, Heather guides others through yoga, movement, and somatic practices that anchor the body as a source of wisdom. She is a mother, a creator, and a woman learning to live with her whole heart, one breath at a time.
I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It was hard to put down actually. Heather‘s openness towards the men that she dated was raw, heartfelt and educational. How she has kept the same patterns in her relationships rings true to so many woman at their early stage of dating and just continues on into adulthood. We as woman believe it is our responsibility to fix the men we choose to love and that if we can’t it is a huge fail on our part. Then there is the other side of wanting the relationship so badly that we lose ourselves in it. No we must take a stand like Heather finally did and speak up for what we need in a loving relationship in all aspects of our life. This is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it!
I found this book by Heather Wild to be so interesting, inclusive, educational and very indepth with the characters she wrote about. I felt, as a woman, it showed how we become so involved in a relationship that even if it isn’t working out, as woman, we tend to try and make it correct. We want to be wanted or needed and search for a partner that may give us that, often forgetting about ourselves and our own needs. I believe, she was able to tell about different ages of life, how what you want or need may change but in reality all you are or she was looking for was to be seen and heard. It was so relatable I read the entire book in one evening. I wasn’t able to put it down. In the end, she realized she was all she needed.
Heather’s writing is an absolute delight for the soul/spirit/mental/emotional, all together!! I deeply admire her willingness to expose herself authentically with vulnerability to help others to heal and understand their behaviours and emotional responses in relationships too often lead by a lack of self love. I devoured and savoured every word of I WAS THE ONE I WAS WAITING FOR which deeply resonated with me. Much gratitude, love and light Heather!
