Robo-Hunter #Verdus

Robo Hunter - Verdus

Rate this book

This was soooooo good. I have never really before cared about Robo Hunter, mainly because I do not like Ian Gibson's art but in this one, the first adventure, everything was in place.
The story was interesting and dramatic but also silly and funny and the art worked. Gibson was here trying to copy the original artist Ferrer. Although at the end his own style is pushing trough by even that does not bother me because the story was so good.

Hilarious.

The story holds-up today despite its naivete because of its comedic streak. The art is great and consistent.

I know that Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter, is one of 2000AD's most popular characters but I'm one of the few readers who wished he was S-L-A-Y-E-D. The rat-a-tat-tat of jokes, visual gags and bizarre situations fail to hit my funny bone. Why? Perhaps because it's bit too slapstick for me. Also I think it's because Ian Gibson's art here is not that good. It looks rushed and sketchy, often with no background detail. I wished Kevin O'Neill had illustrated this story as it's an ideal situation for him & he would filled in the background with wonderful robotic detail.
