You're cordially invited to the wedding massacre of the season.

Life is good for Katie Rose Waters. Her family is filthy rich, and she has it a closet full of designer shoes in a mansion fit for a queen, Mother Dear's undivided attention, and, of course, the comforting knowledge that she can get away with murder any time she wants…literally.

But Katie Rose's perfect world starts to crumble when her estranged sister Kit returns home to their small town with a new engagement ring and a fiancé in tow. With Belldam, Texas's most extravagant wedding on the horizon Mother Dear goes into wedding planner mode, obsessing over wedding dresses, florists, and finding a cake. And Katie Rose? She's been demoted to an afterthought. Unless, of course, Mother Dear needs help with a decapitated body. It's simply devastating.

Left to her own wicked devices, Katie Rose begins to suspect that her picture-perfect life might be as hollow as the corpses she leaves behind. What's a spoiled daughter to do without Mother Dear's guidance? But whatever, everything will be fine as long as the trio can stay calm.

Unfortunately, there's nothing more stressful than a wedding....

This outrageous young adult slasher blends the comedy of Father of the Bride with nonstop kills à la Serial Mom in the most twisted mother-daughter story yet.

Fatally Yours is a darkly funny, gory, and creative ride packed with the most wonderfully terrible characters. You'll absolutely hate that you end up loving and relating to them somehow, haha! Jessica Lacy absolutely delivered yet again!

First I just have to talk about this cover because it is just so stunning!

Katie Rose is her mother's shadow. She wants for nothing and knows she can get away with murder...literally. Unfortunately, her older sister comes home after ten years and it's no longer Katie Rose's world. She left sharing mother dear's attention with Kat while they plan her wedding. Tensions are high in this comedic slasher!

This was an absolute fun read! I was so excited to receive an ebook while I wait for my copy to come
In the mail. I absolutely loved Katie Rose's inner thoughts. She's unhinged and has no impulse control. For the water's women they deal with their stress unconventionally with murder. So you can imagine when the wedding planning mishaps occur it gets quite bloody. Also, the family drama! It is extreme but throughout the story you find that all three ladies are a little unhinged. You find out secrets and sometimes the apples don't fall far from the tree.

Thank you to sourcebook fire for the gifted copies and being a part of the campaign!

3.5⭐

Fatally Yours is a chaotic, unhinged and over the top slasher thriller, it was so crazy but it ended up being a good time. It is meant to have some dark comedy aspect and I think the author achieved her goal. I went into it not expecting to enjoy it as it is not my typical read and came out absolutely entertained. The book doesn't take itself too seriously and if you go into it with that mentality you'll enjoy it!

The characters were truly the highlight for me, I can't say that I liked any of them really, because they were so exaggerated, but I think that's what made them stick out. The kills were so well done, they were gory, original, funny and absurd which I truly enjoyed. There's some twists and turns that got me in the end that I thought were well done.

Overall, it's a fun, entertaining and absolutely crazy ride. If you go into it not expecting anything realistic you will definitely enjoy it. It doesn't take itself seriously and is here for pure enjoyment.

✨️ Thank you to @sourcebooksfire & @bloodandlacy for my gifted copy.

Counting books in my reading challenge that I copyedited or proofread, when they're available here on Goodreads for me to add in a timely manner (several I've worked on already exist and are being repackaged/rereleased by a publisher). It's only fair. It's a damn lot of reading I'm not including otherwise.

So much fun. Absolutely disgusting mother-daughter slasher fic. But with a Father of the Bride slant.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire and Jessica Lacy for allowing me to ARC read this amazing book!

I am a long time fan of Jessica's books (ever since she was Ivy Tholen) and I actually read this amazing book when it was originally called Mother Dear. I thoroughly enjoyed the book then and I loved it just as much as Fatally Yours!

Fatally Yours is such a unique slasher and there are lots of comedy moments throughout the book as well! It is a great time start to finish! I recommend this to anyone slasher reader!

I fully loved this story. I remeber reading it as Mother Dear and loved it back then. I will admit i dont remember a lot of the story verbatim so I didnt notice as much of the rewrites as Tastes Like Candy. Katie Rose does feel more fledged out as a character and written a lot less whiny then the first time. Seeing more into the family dynamics was also a great addition. Fully recommend this story to anyone.

Mother daughter killing duo that keeps you on your toes 🔪 Katie Rose is hilarious and insane but she was definitely an interesting character to read about. I actually wanted to learn more about their other sister Ritzy because I feel like their is more secrets and things going on with her 👀

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

“Fatally Yours” by Jessica Lacy is unhinged, to say the least. Like, completely chaotic, over-the-top, “did that really just happen?” kind of unhinged, and whether you enjoy it really depends on how much you’re willing to roll with the absurdity.

The book opens with a murder. Not a slow build, not suspense; just straight-up mother-daughter bonding time via killing a florist over something minor. And that pretty much sets the tone for the entire story. Katie Rose and her mom, Rynn, are rich, dramatic, and have zero remorse about murdering anyone who mildly inconveniences them. It’s unrealistic to the point of being ridiculous but also kind of the point.

The plot kicks into gear when Katie Rose’s estranged sister, Kit, comes back home to get married. Suddenly, the family is thrown into full wedding-planning chaos, and tensions start rising fast. Katie Rose, who is used to being the center of her mom’s attention, starts spiraling when she’s pushed aside, and naturally, that leads to more murder. Because of course it does.

Character-wise, you shouldn’t go into this book expecting to “like” anyone. Everyone is exaggerated to the extreme. Katie Rose is basically a spoiled, violent toddler in a designer wardrobe, constantly throwing tantrums and craving her mom’s approval. Rynn is somehow even worse as she is manipulative, obsessive, and deeply unhinged in a way that slowly gets revealed as the story goes on. Kit starts off as the only semi-normal one, calling out how messed up her family is, but even she’s not exactly untouched by all the chaos.

Honestly, the characters feel more like caricatures than real people, but if you lean into the dark comedy, that’s part of the fun.

What does stand out are the kills. They’re creative, gory, and definitely the highlight of the book. If you’re into slasher vibes, this delivers. The body count keeps climbing, especially as the wedding stress ramps up, and by the end it’s basically a full-on massacre.

That said, the pacing can be weird. There’s a lot of filler with random conversations and moments that don’t really add much, which slows things down in between all the chaos. But then the ending comes in fast with twists (especially about Rynn’s past) and a dramatic, bloody finale that ties everything together in a very “this family is beyond saving” kind of way.

At its core, the book is weirdly about family. Twisted, toxic, murderous family but still family. There’s this underlying theme about loyalty and the need for approval, especially between Katie Rose and her mom, even if it’s expressed in the most extreme ways possible.

Overall, “Fatally Yours” is a dark comedy slasher that you absolutely should not take seriously. If you’re here for realistic characters or a grounded plot, this is not it. But if you want something campy, gory, and completely chaotic (with a side of messed-up family drama) it’s a wild, entertaining ride.

I devoured this book. No hesitation, no breaks—just straight-up obsession.

The vibes? Immaculate. From page one, I was completely locked in, and it never let me go. What really stood out to me was the writing style. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before. It took a minute to click, but once it did, I loved it. There’s something so immersive about it, like you’re not just reading the story, you’re hovering just outside of it, watching everything unfold from a slightly off-center angle.

The story is primarily told in first person through Katie Rose, the youngest daughter of Rynn—aka Mother Dear, aka Kathryn—but it occasionally shifts into third person when we need insight beyond her perspective. These transitions aren’t constant, but when they happen, they’re purposeful. The use of italics really helps ground the reader, especially since switching between first and third POV isn’t the norm. It could’ve been messy….but it wasn’t. It was actually really well executed.

Also, I love that this was originally indie published under a different name and then picked up by Sourcebooks Fire for a rewrite. That makes me so happy. Nothing frustrates me more than when a book gets picked up and just…stays the same. If you have the chance to elevate it, why wouldn’t you? Thankfully, that’s not the case here—you can feel the care in the rework.

And the characters?? Unhinged in the best way. Every single one of them. The family dynamics are chaotic, impulsive, and absolutely wild—you definitely have to suspend disbelief when it comes to consequences, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. It leans into the madness and just runs with it.

This is, without question, my new favorite “comedic serial killer” thriller—by a long shot. I didn’t want it to end, and I am desperately hoping this isn’t the last we see of this world.

I am thankful to have received a complimentary eARC from Sourcebooks Fire via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to share my voluntary thoughts.

The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together!

Fatally Yours is hysterical in the most unhinged way. This story follows a rather unconventional family trying to come together to celebrate the wedding of the oldest daughter, Kit. Enter Katie Rose, Mother Dear, Ritzy, and a whole other colorful cast of characters (and cannon fodder), and you have the ingredients for one amazing story. Readers will never know if they should be horrified, laughing, or cheering for what might be happening in this story by the talented Jessica Lacy. This story is wildly outlandish, excessive, and contains a joy that made me love it. The plot had me cackling out loud more than once because it commits so hard to the bit, leaning into chaos with confidence and perfect comedic timing. It’s ridiculous in the most intentional way, balancing absurdity and violence with a wink that makes every outrageous moment land even harder.

What I loved most is how this book manages to be goofy, heartwarming, and bloody all at the same time. It seriously is an impressive feat. Beneath the nonstop kills and campy slasher energy is a twisted little heart that beats loud and proud, especially in the warped family dynamics and emotional backbone. The kills are fun, the tone is sharp, and the story never forgets it’s here to entertain above all else. Fatally Yours isn’t just funny horror, it’s a legitimately great slasher that understands both the genre and the joy of going completely feral with it. Described as Father of the Bride meets Serial Mom, this is a story you CANNOT miss!

thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of an arc in exchange for an honest review.

If you liked Serial Mom movie I think this slasher will work for you. It made sense reading that she was heavily inspired by a kind of serial mom/father of the bride mash up.

It’s probably the most absurd of Lacy’s stories (previously published as Ivy Tholen) but it’s intentionally absurd. I audibly laughed out loud at multiple scenes. I loved how insane Katie Roses perspective is and I had a good time in this journey.

One question I had is what is going on with Ritzy? Is she meant to be a bit of an Ann from arrested development or is her story coming later? I felt like I needed just a bit more there.

I will say, I think there is some unnecessary fatphobia present and while you’re not meant to agree with the Waters women perspective (or atleast not all of the time) but most of the references to the overweight people never felt like it added anything to the story other than to point out they were fat.

Overall, I am a Lacy fan through and through. I’ve read all her works so far (and I looove that they are in a shared universe it’s going to make rereads even more fun) and I’m excited to see where her career continues to go - we need more campy slashers and I’m so excited to have found an author who Gets That

OMG JESSICA I LOVE YOU, this book it was made for me and its one of my favorites of the year.

What happens when you have a crazy family who your mother and sister kills people but you come back home bacause you gonna get marry? DRAMA. What happens when they seel your flowers to other person, or when they made a bad cake? Murder and gore and blood. What happens when the author is inspired by the movie SERIAL MOM? i laugh more than i laugh in any book.

My god this book was so crazy since the beggining that i was always thinking, wait is this really
happening? and it was. YES I LOVE KATIE ROSE and i think shes relly crazy but i mean, was she really wrong? We follow all the preparation for the wedding and everything that goes wrong until the special day.

Im sorry, i love slashers, death, comedy and dark humor, this book was everything and more, i was laughing so much, all the time, the story goes so fast that i barely saw the pages going.

The death scenes was creative, full of gore and i was so happy anytime it happen. The letter to Shannon was amazing. I felt bad for Ritz poor her hahahhaha.

A great slasher to not take seriouly and just have fun. I'm so happy that i read this. really Jessica, thank you.

FATALLY YOURS by Jessica Lacy (May 5, 2026)

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the eArc

When Katie Rose's estranged sister comes back to Belldam (to tell her family she's getting married), Katie's world begins to unravel. Her mother begins obsessing over the wedding, Katie feels neglected. Left to her own devices, she begins k*lling on her own (instead of with "Mother Dear"), leaving b*dies everywhere. Can the trio stay calm?
FATALLY YOURS is a YA slasher/thriller. Honestly, I don't know if I would call this YA, though. The characters are over 20, but Katie Rose is very childish, so I get it. This is a fast-paced book that is wild. I love slashers, and this slasher was great.  It was gory, dramatic, and something I can imagine Blumhouse Productions turning into a movie. That would be awesome.
FATALLY YOURS is thrilling in a way that only comes from slashers. In the case of FATALLY YOURS, it baffled me how much these characters were able to get away with. M*rder left and right. I get these characters are very rich, but still.
I definitely recommend this for those who love slashers, and for those who loved Lacy's TASTE LIKE CANDY.

"Murder is an outlet for my creativity."

"Devil juice courses through my veins..."

Fatally Yours by Jessica Lacy is my first time reading a slasher horror. It is weird to say you had fun reading about "a bloodthirsty two-year-old who is also six feet tall.." but it actually was a fun read!

Yes, a gruesome subject, but the female main character, Katie Rose is one unique girl! Definitely babied by her mother, and is "Mommy's Shadow," she takes everything to heart and even wearing jeans could get you killed. She has a lot of issues, but seems to grow up a little bit by the end of the book and becomes more independent.. but not grow out of bad habits...

If you enjoy thrillers, or horror, this book is a fun twist on these. A lot of dark-witty banter, psychological triggers, and a diverse set of characters.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire and Jessica Lacy for the ARC of Fatally Yours.

I had such a fun time reading Fatally Yours! I honestly didn’t expect to laugh out loud as many times as I did, but the humor caught me off guard in the best way. The mix of slasher elements with dark comedy made it feel fresh and entertaining, and I loved how the book didn’t take itself too seriously while still delivering plenty of chaotic moments.

That said, there were a few parts where things felt a bit much for me. Some scenes leaned a little over the top, and I occasionally found myself wishing things had been dialed back just slightly. Even so, it didn’t take away from how enjoyable the story was overall.

If you like horror with a strong sense of humor and plenty of wild moments, this one is definitely worth picking up. It kept me entertained the whole way through and gave me quite a few unexpected laughs along the way.

This book is wildly chaotic and absolutely unhinged but also hilarious.

From the very first page where a mother/daughter duo unalives a seemingly normal florist to Shannon.. seriously, granola? IYKYK 😅 This book is totally bonkers but in the best way.
Also, am I the only one who heard Charlie Hunnam's voice as Ed Gein every time Katie Rose said "sorry Mother Dear."

I believe you have to have a darker sense of humor in order to truly enjoy this book. This is why I am rating it 4/5 stars.

If you enjoyed reading R.L.Stein Fear Street as a YA and you like slasher films/ movies and you enjoyed Steve Martin in Father of the Bride, then you'll like this book.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Sourcebooks Fire for this advanced copy of Fatally Yours.

Fatally Yours was so fun. I loved the last book I read by Jessica Lacy, and this one was also a hit. First, let me just say that these are the most gorgeous covers I’ve seen. They are eye catching and so vibrant and are done by @paulwks.art. I want one of his drawings!!!

Anyway! Katie Rose is spoiled and as it often goes with it, she gets away with everything…even murder. I thought the relationship she had with her sister was pretty accurate. I liked how her sister had gotten away from the family, because it is pretty messed up. The pacing is quick and it’s a fun read. It is a slasher and geared more towards a YaA audience despite the characters being older.

Thank you to @sourcebooksfire & @bloodandlacy for this #gifted book. All thoughts are my own.

Thank you, SOURCEBOOKS Fire, for providing the copy of Fatally Yours by Jessica Lacy. I loved Tastes Lie Candy, so I was anxious to read this Jessica Lacy book. The things I loved about Tastes Like Candy were missing in this one. The only thing that felt the same was the blood and horror, but the deep characters and engaging story weren't there for me. The characters were over-the-top strange, so it was difficult to relate to them. , and it made it even stranger than it probably was. It opens with a bang, and the bodies start to pile up. If you love slasher books, this is perfect for you, as Katie Rose gets more unhinged when her estranged sister comes home to get married. 3 stars

I originally read this as mother dearest and I’m excited I get to read the republished version! I received this as an arc from NetGalley
This is the story of Katie rose who is super close with her mother but when her estranged sister comes home for her wedding all hell breaks loose! When her mother begins to obsess over her sisters wedding Katie starts to crack and starts killing people! This definitely reminded me of a classic slasher horror movie which I absolutely loved! Also with the republishing more of the details feel more flushed out and Katie feels different from when I read it first!

Fantastic! Both hysterical and gory A.F. Lacy’s mission to marry the chick lit genre with the Slasher genre is a marvelous thing to behold. At first, I thought this might not be a good fit for me because of how “girly” it is, but honestly, that’s half the fun! I love seeing authors subvert existing tropes like this.
Katie Rose is a Voorhees-level character in the making, only one in lipstick and designer combat boots that cost more than my mortgage payment!
Also, the town of Belldam is so fun to explore! So many little easter eggs. I certainly don’t think it would healthy to live there, but I will visit for each and every book.

I giggled all the way through this nonsensical, bloody, fucked-up family romp. I loved the sibling rivalry, the arrested development, the misplaced pride and down-deep loyalty, and I loved that the sisters and their mother went straight to strangulation and eye-gouging when they got mad or frustrated. It's violent and packed with conflict but not at all dark.

Plus Katie Rose's mastery of the beauty vernacular made me happy - you CAN be a gleeful murderer built like a linebacker and still understand how to properly use K18 hair oil.

I really enjoyed this read, it was funny but it also has some sinister and fascinatingly fatal moments.

I’m a big thriller/slasher, mystery and crime reader and I had a blast reading it, I thought the chaos was actually pretty funny as well, I’m not to big on drama but the chaos this book has with this family was something that I found very interesting and fun.

I had a good time reading this book and I’d suggest checking it out especially if slashers with comedy are your thing I think it’s a perfect read.

Thanks Netgalley and Sourcebooksfire for the early copy!

This book gives major Dexter who? energy and delivers a lovable killer with style for days. There were a few surprises tucked in that I will absolutely not spoil, but just know this story kept me locked in the entire time. I also had no clue it was set in Texas, which made it even more fun for me as a fellow Texan. 🤠🔪
It read so fast thanks to the sharp dialogue, the wildly entertaining rich family chaos, and the hot mess wedding drama mixed with all the blood and gore. Truly the perfect combo. I could 100% see this becoming a smash TV series, and I am already begging the universe for a sequel. Also yes, I am officially on a mission to read this author’s other books because this was way too much fun. New autobuy author unlocked. 💅📚

If you are a fan of horror mixed with comedy, this is definitely the book for you. Totally gives a slasher/serial killer vibe plus a dysfunctional family. I found myself laughing late into the night at the madness of this book. I liked the characters. If it's possible? for a serial killer to have growth, than this one definitely did throughout the book. Definitely gives campy horror vibes. I highly recommend it.

I had to sit on this one a while after finishing it. Some aspects of the story I really enjoyed but most of the story just fell short for me. I felt confused and overwhelmed with a lot of the dialog. I honestly think the best part was the flower shop. Otherwise it was just a 6-foot tall adult teenager(no, that isn't a typo) running around in Louboutins killing people--which sounds amazing but it's just didn't deliver.

I’ve never read anything quite like this and it is absolutely delightful. The characters are all batshit crazy and actually pretty lovable. The comedy works, the gore is fantastically gross, and the pacing is excellent.

Just like Tastes Like Candy and its sequel- Fatally Yours is literally everything I want in a book. Murdery, campy, fun, and escapist. Someone needs to get Lacy’s books turned into movies ASAP.
