This is the second novel in Aimee Easterling’s Ghost Pack series of contemporary paranormal romantic fantasy. Although this story could be enjoyed on its own, I recommend reading the entire series in order. This series takes place after Easterling’s Rune Wolf series and has some references to that series, but you don’t have to read that series first to enjoy this.
Wren and Locke previously agreed to a strictly platonic mating of convenience, but Wren is beginning to wonder if she might want more. They don’t have much time to consider their relationship though when Wren’s youngest ghost pack mate is in danger. As Wren and Locke try to find Ellie’s missing anchor, they learn more about Wren’s wolf weaver ability, as well as who they can and cannot trust. What results is a very exciting, action-packed story with a slow burn romance and found family vibes.
I like Wren and Locke, as well as most of the secondary characters. I still don’t really understand how the ghost pack, anchors, and wolf weaving work, but I’m enjoying the story enough to just roll with it. Wren is still learning too, so maybe it will all make sense after the next book.
The audiobook production was good, and Grace Noble’s narration was fine. Her pronunciation is clear, and she’s able to convey mood and emotion effectively. She does ok with character voices, although I occasionally found it hard to distinguish between some of the voices. I wish she had used more diverse accents and speech mannerisms to make each character’s voice more distinctive.
Recommended for those who enjoy paranormal romance, contemporary fantasy, and shifter stories.
The author provided me with a free ARC and advanced listening copy. I am voluntarily posting this honest review.
