She writes the smut. He makes it real. Welcome to the most unhinged love story this side of a draft folder.
Roxie Lemont is an erotic fiction author on the edge—of a deadline, a breakdown, and definitely something illegal involving a chandelier. When her filthy fantasy novella about a cursed Viking love triangle takes a turn for the absurd, she turns to the one man who might actually understand her chaos.
Rhys Halden is a dirty-mouthed alpha with a protective streak, a military past, and the patience of a saint—or at least a saint who owns rope. He didn’t plan to become her real-life research partner... but here they are. Roleplaying, rewriting, and reverse-lunging straight into the kind of contemporary romance that no outline could contain.
This is an adults-only, smutty, steamy, emotionally-devastating romantasy parody—with just enough heart to wreck you.
Perfect for fans of filthy romantic comedies, chaotic heroines, cinnamon rolls with dominant tendencies, and books that don’t know when to shut up and behave.
For readers who ✔️ Unfiltered banter and slow-burn filth ✔️ Contemporary romance with a wink at romantasy tropes ✔️ Erotica for women that’s hot, hilarious, and emotionally satisfying ✔️ Fiction that dares to be horny, heartfelt, and a little bit feral
Write Me Filthy is a laugh-out-loud erotic novella packed with steamy scenes, unhinged energy, and just enough Viking-inspired fantasy to make you question every historical romance you’ve ever read.
★★★★★ "Write Me Filthy is a hilariously chaotic, scorchingly steamy romp where a spiraling erotica author teams up with a dirty-mouthed alpha to turn her wildest fantasies into reality—delivering equal parts heat, heart, and unhinged laughter you won't be able to put down." - NewInBooks.com
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for granting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'll be honest - right from the jump, the dedication did not inspire much confidence in the quality of this book. Millennial to Millennial, there's only so much cheugy behavior I can withstand from a peer.
But for the most part, this was a tolerable - and even occasionally enjoyable - level of cringe. I love the idea of an erotica protagonist in her 40s, and as far as protags go, she's not the worst. The writing itself gave the impression that the author comes from a long line of stand-up comedians and is the first of her line to break out of comedy and into erotica. I'm a big fan of (good) erotic comedy, but where this fell on the spectrum kept me wondering whether "Write Me Filthy" is actually a parody poking some good-natured fun at erotica enjoyers.
The premise and setup was smooth and funny, and I thought the pacing was perfect for erotica.
All in all, I did wind up skimming a bit, even though it's quite short, because... well, to be honest with you, I lose interest in porn when I'm reminded that a dog is present, and it happened often enough to just kind of put me off the whole thing.
Below are a handful of notes I made in real time during the reading process, and will contain spoilers.
❤️🔥I'm suspending my disbelief that a legal assistant would give someone the gift option of a fine china pattern called "Cottagecore Smut". Mostly because the only people who'd make something like that are the master craftsmen who refurbish antiques into weed paraphernalia. ❤️🔥I don't love how many of this woman's family members read her porn. Both your aunt AND your mother? And your aunt TOLD YOU that she spontaneously orgasmed from a chapter in your book?? This is white culture. ❤️🔥A wise reviewer on another book once said that TikTok and, more specifically BookTok, should never be mentioned in a book. I am inclined to agree after reading this. ❤️🔥I'm sure I'll be in the minority here, but I think vibrators are mentioned way, way too often. I know it's supposed to be cheeky, but I'm getting vibrator-fatigue in the least fun way possible. ❤️🔥The dog is mentioned far too often for my tastes. Like, to the point where it's off-putting. There's precious little I'm interested in less than being reminded that there is a dog in the vicinity when I'm reading porn. For example:
["You came hard." "Hard enough to scare Poppy. Twice."]
[his jeans hit the floor, his cock hit my mouth, and Poppy hit us with the judgemental side-eye reserved for failed reality TV contestants.]
[Rhys choked on a laugh. And fucked me harder. In the background, Poppy padded in, paused, and immediately turned around like she'd walked into the wrong Zoom meeting.]
For people who want a more mature, but still fun, self-indulgent little erotica and you're not bothered by the above, then this may be the one for you! Without the constant dog mentions, I'd bump this up to four stars for enjoyment alone. So it goes.
Roxy, a strong independent women, former romance writer, tries her luck with writing smut while hooking up with her parcel delivery guy…
Oh boy!!! Rhys is a thunderstorm in every possible aspect of the word. When he is speaking in a low and raspy voice to Roxy „Let me take care of you“ and „I‘ve got you“ making her the soul focus of his attention… she inevitable is a goner for this sexy, strong and breathtaking man.
He makes her see stars, devoures her, pleasures her into oblivion multiple times a day… it’s all the filthy hot stuff a girl can only dream of… And if that isn’t enough for you - there is a book in the book - Roxy‘s Viking, vampire dentist („just say Ah“) hot and filthy little writing experience with so many crazy scenes that made me laugh soo hard my eyes where wet.
This book checks a lot of boxes on different sexual fantasies… Timber has to leave some of them to check for future books to come… Spoiler alert- fantasies from hanging one handed of a chandelier, to tied up in a threesome to joining the mile high club are only a few of the things you can check of your list. Oh what a filthy mind!
Back to Roxy and Rhys… Beneath all the lusting for each other, all the crazy hot s*xy time, they built a real friendship with true admiration for each other which results into a deep love that takes your breath away and lasts forever….(with a big fluttering in your stomach that lasts)
At the end,… somehow I feel that Rhys wants me to talk about his thighs… („Bonus points if you mention my thighs. Or my moral flexibility…“)… so I did… you should definitely check them out yourselves… but one quick suggestion… take a fan and a towel for blushing and sweating purposes… please…
One thing this title got right about the book is the "unhinged" part. And te laugh-out-loud, and everything!
This book was a rollercoaster, super fast paced that it was hard to slow down to catch the intimate moments. What started as a crazy funny story evolved nicely into a heart story.
The first part felt like broken glass, when the tension started to rise: boom, a funny joke broke everything. The funny factor is incredible here, the author is such a creative mind, there are so many comparisons & metaphors so surprisingly funny. At times it felt like a dis to the whole erotic romance genre, other times it felt like a collection of short paragraphs you write just for fun. But in the end it all turns into a love story that is the backbone of the book and that was still emotional and lovely, despite the whole unhinge-ness. It, also, helps that it's so well written, the small moments, the scenery, the surfing.. artistry!
This is a very particular book, with a voice of its own, a very unique piece. I'm grateful to have received it in order to share my view on it.
With this novella, I was promised heart, heat, and hilarity and it delivered all three with a side of unhinged. Roxie is a romance writer in a slump that finds inspiration in her muse "parcel guy". With every package delivery the ideas start to flow, especially when Rhys offers to help her "research". And soon enough, her muse becomes everything she ever dreamed of. This book had every cringe-worthy metaphor us readers roll our eyes at, but written to create constant humor that had me laughing so hard. It started with the dedication to the author's husband that sounds so much like my own... "farts without apology, burps like it's punctuation, and still make me laugh harder than anyone I know." I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Fast paced and side achingly funny! The tempo and tone is absolutely spot on!
Can't remember the last time I read anything that had me laughing so much! This is a gem to brighten anyone's day! Parcel guy, Rhys, is such a treat, Roxie, the smut/romance writer, a comedy queen, and Poppy? Well, Poppy doesn't know it but she supplies some great scene material!! Even the erotic stories Roxie writes are hilarious!!!
This is simply one of those books you have to read! And read again because there's so many jokes and amazing one liners that you won't be able to remember them all in one reading!
Highly recommend!!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Going into this book, I had NO idea what I was in for and now, two days later I'm still asking myself 'WTF was that?'
The tag line for this book - "A laugh-out-loud, unhinged, spicy erotic novella and romantic comedy with heart—and one dirty-mouthed alpha" is on point. This book is definitely unhinged! Half the time I had no idea what was going on, but I just couldn't put it down. The spice scenes are downright filthy, and the mouth on 'Parcel Guy' was delicious! The banter between Roxie and Rhys (Parcel Guy) was top notch.
While I struggled to differentiate between Roxie & Rhys' story and Roxie's actual novel in progress, the story does come together at the end with a beautiful big HEA bow :)
Short, spicy, and absolutely hilarious. It's Tristram Shandy of erotic romance, complete chaos, and I was there for every minute of it. The book bursts with erotic joy and the metaphors are really original and ROTFL funny. The gist of the plot: Romance author gets inspired by real-life Package Guy and starts penning supernatural Viking smut, which reanimates her career. But there's more to the couple than acting out unhinged sex choreography, and the way they fall in love is surprisingly sweet amid all the hanging from chandeliers and endless oral. Very fun and very funny, swoony and delicious.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
If you need a fun but HOT story this is it. Get ready for a story on top of a story. And you will want them both. Timber Vale is a new author to me and she knows how keep you hooked!! This romance was funny, exciting, spicy & definitely erotic. I fell in love with both Roxie and Rhys characters. The story within a story was great. Both characters were so fun. The conversation and wit made it even better. This isn’t for the timid, this is an all-out experience that will grab you and not let go! This was the break I needed from life. You are going to love it. Get ready for this adventure, and enjoy.
I loved the plot line and the character's development even though it was a short novella. The only issue I had was that this felt like a fan fiction, a good fan fiction. The chapter Rhys had halfway through solidified this for me, however I had a good giggle and the spice was great. Rhys is strong and dominating and Roxie is chaos and horny bottled. It took me an hour to finish this and I didn't feel it needed to be longer like other novellas I have read. I would love to read more by this author.
Wow. I don’t even…okay…hear me out, EVERY romance author needs to read this book. It is crafted with brilliance that only a romance author will understand. The self doubt, the humour, the creativity. It was perfect.
Now, let’s talk about the dirty word. The filth. The smut!
"𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒐𝒔. 𝑩𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒎𝒖𝒕."
I have never laughed so hard at a book. The spice was enough to make me jump my husband every chance I got too. He ain’t complaining and neither am I.
Pure genius. I will be recommending this book to everyone!
Roxie writes er0tic romance novels. Rhys is an ex military man with a mouth made for sin. Together they will recreate love scenes from her book to get her creative juices flowing. This is an absolutely smoking hot novella that is written by a woman, definitely with women readers in mind. This was such a great story with playful smexy banter and really hot spice. I will definitely look for more from this author.
Where do I even start with this one... I was warned that it was unhinged but it was so chaotic, I had to put it down, read something else then come back to finish it.
Roxie and Rhys were so all over the place. I think the story and Roxie's book plot were all too mixed up that it muddled the story for me.
I have never been hanging off the edge of my seat and ready to live in the life of candy. Between the pages of candy’s book and what was going on in the writers real life I was beyond intrigued and waiting for the next scene. The author is truly talented and i can’t wait to ready more of her books.
This book is not what I expected but I loved it! It’s a quick read that will have you laughing but also loving the characters! It’s a super fun spicy read and if you are looking for a funny spicy novella this is the book for you!
An author that writes smut and the delivery guy becomes her real-life research partner. Roxie and Rhys roleplaying, have unfiltered banter, and unhinged energy throughout the book! An amazing that is naughty and a slow burn!
A funny ride! It’s a bit jumpy storywise, but it’s full of hilarious banter! A few times of chuckling out loud and getting funny looks from people in public (it’s smutty, but it’s not THAT smutty, I’d read it in public 😂)
