This is one of the most complicated manga relationships I have ever seen and it somehow also manages to feature Steven Spielberg moonwalking while buying condoms. It doesn’t lack for originality.

Neither one of these two leads are perfect and that’s kind of why I keep finding this such a brisk and enjoyable read. For every one step forward they end up taking two steps back and one of those is probably into a pile of manure.

The big deal this time is the trip the two of them decide to take to a resort, but saying this is fraught with peril is an understatement. There is no situation that these two cannot muck up.

I like that it’s not just Suzuki and his endlessly awkward proclamations and overstepping jealousy causing the strife here, although that’s definitely not helping anything. In fact, he definitely throws the grenade that blows it all up at the end of the volume. He’s a young guy who acts as stupid as a young guy would.

Conversely, Takagi really runs pretty hot and cold, not just with Suzuki but with the idea of being with him. She has an extensive phone chat about him with a friend of hers that makes it clear she likes him, but she can’t seem to figure out the extent of it.

Arguably, Takagi is more in love with the idea of Suzuki as she’d like him to be - his best moments with his awkward all edited out. Unfortunately, people are not built that way and her friend says as much.

And so it goes. For every super nice thing either of them does, something pulls it all back to reality. There’s no plane of existence where this is not a giant mess, basically. From bikinis to cakes to sex to indirect kisses, problem after problem invades moment after moment.

There’s also a really well done swerve with the last chapter, where all of Suzuki’s bad choices come home to roost, that neatly plays on all the visual imagery displayed to that point to drive its message home.

It still manages to be funny too, which is great. There is a side digression about tunnels when Suzuki is trying to distract himself over something that is one of those bizarre skits that this series does very well.

While I find this wildly compelling, I can see how both these two, or even just one of them, could prove to be too frustrating if you just want a frothy romance (and nothing wrong with that, mind you). For me it’s a feature, but I feel they might be an acquired taste.

4 stars - yet they are a taste I have acquired and some good laughs and cringe (yet believable) romance make this into a surprisingly interesting version of the standard time loop romance.

So… how do you go back to the condom aisle without anyone noticing that you are going back? Well, obviously, you moonwalk. I mean… of course you do. Hahahaha.

That is exactly the level of ridiculous humor this manga operates on, and somehow, it works so well. I love it.

This volume continues to lean fully into that awkward, over-the-top comedy, and it never feels forced. It just comes naturally from these characters and their completely earnest, slightly unhinged attempts to deal with their situation.

And then there is Takaya again, looking for dating advice in the most unexpected places imaginable. I will not spoil it, because it is just too funny. Not only what he uses, but where he even gets that advice from… I genuinely could not stop laughing.

Of course, being Takaya, he gets a bit too excited and completely overshoots the mark. But then, almost immediately, he redeems himself by just being such a genuinely good, dorky guy. It is impossible not to root for him at this point.

That is what makes this series so enjoyable. It balances absurd humor with real sweetness in such an effortless way. You laugh at them, but you also care about them.

Still having such a great time with this one.

🩴 o loop cansa — e talvez esse mangá pudesse ser mais curto — mas também te lembra, a cada volume, que é um boy neurodivergente de slutty little reading glasses que retém sua atenção nessa comédia romântica safadinha.
