I’ve read it before, so I didn’t fully reread this time, but I reread chapter 5 in light of last night at Mrs. Tricia’s.. we went through it together some, but I read it again this morning with my own thoughts and reflections.

Our spiritual eyes are trained on more than our five senses.

Sometimes there is conflict between what we see with our natural eyes and what we know in our hearts.
This world is full of sorrow and pain, and things are not how they should be. We yearn for perfection we do not see.
We were not made to deteriorate, but the temporary struggles foreshadow eternal glory.
This eternal glory is evident in the transformation of our minds to truth.

The supernatural world is invisible to the eye, but intimate to the heart.

The gift of resurrection through the Spirit is for NOW!
We can rejoice now, fully confident and peaceful about the reality of our power in Jesus.
YOUR faith has the power to perform miracles, through perfect peace and power only available through faith in Jesus.

We were made with honor, splendor, and glory, with dominion over the world.
“Atar" = crown; surrounding all over.
We are masterpieces, filled with God's abundance and dignity
His glory is a heavy weight of authority. A person with glory has authority.
The garden was perfect: animals in harmony, dominion exercised by man.
The serpent even walked and spoke.
What else talked and spoke? Could plants and animals speak and talk?
They had dominion and authority.
Contrast that with today.
Creation was alive and full of worship, and man had authority over every creeping thing.

The name Yahweh has great power
Four Hebrew letters
The Jewish people would say "the name" or use "Adonai," but they would not say "Yahweh."
Yahweh is the great "I AM."
He is the covenant-keeping God, the intimate God, the relational God.
And he is today for us, because the veil has been torn

"For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." -Genesis 2:17

What could death have meant to Adam and Eve, who did not know death?

Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil / law / self-righteousness
Tree of Life / grace / Jesus' righteousness

Adam and Eve were given a choice: love is a choice, not a mandate.
They were not made to know good and evil, but to know God.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil became the center of Eve's world. In the midst was the Tree of Life, but she chose the other tree.
I wonder how long she spent before she decided to eat from it
They had great innocence: childlike innocence.
You must be like a child to enter the kingdom of God.
We cannot make ourselves more worthy, but we can believe with childlike faith.

Fear and shame cause victimization and self-righteousness, or vice-versa.
Everything changed as a result of their decision, and their intimacy with God was lost.

There are no steps for something freely given and undeserved.

Confess: "homologeo"
To say the same thing as another
Our confession is that we are righteous through the blood of Jesus.

Repent:
To change one's mind
It does not mean to be sorry and apologetic, or to change directions
It simply means to change one's mind, which may have actions

Forgiveness: "aphesis"
Letting them go as if they had never been committed
He forgives us entirely of our sins, as if they had never been committed
They are not held against us
Jesus has paid our debt!

Fear is the result of not knowing your identity.
We have a choice: to believe in God or to believe in the law.

Being a victim is self-righteous behavior.
Choice means we are no longer a victim.
We cannot save ourselves. We must choose.
No one else can destroy your relationship with God.
He allows free will, and we gave up our dominion over the creatures.

We cannot receive more grace and peace, but we can grow in it.
We have all the peace we will ever need, but we can grow in understanding and reception.

Satan continues to try and plant enmity to stop God's master plan.
We are made to rejoice in truth.

Curses on Eve
Sorrow and conception: in pain you shall reproduce
This is no longer binding to us
Your desire shall be for your husband, and he will rule over you
We are no longer under that curse or need for power struggle
We have the peace of God

Curse on Adam
The ground was cursed; toil to eat; you shall eat the herb of the field
He came from the dust. The ground was cursed and so was his flesh.
Disease, death
Eat the herb of the field:
Eating the fruit of your labors, good and bad

In their pain, Adam named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
I bet the first shed of blood was a culture shock.

We pass through the swords of judgement, not of our own doing, but of his.
A perfect life could never fulfill that curse. Tree of GOOD and EVIL.
Only the Spirit can fulfill.

Until just a few years ago, I had regarded my relationship with Jesus as something I had to work and work to maintain. The joy of my salvation was lost in performance-based religion. Years ago this book became instrumental in teaching me the pure grace of Jesus Christ. If you are struggling to be "good" enough for God, this is a book that will help you understand that only in a relationship with Christ do you receive God's goodness—HIs righteousness. You don't earn a right relationship with God by anything you do. You receive a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus. And when you know and believe who you are in Christ, you live out of the His fullness of His love for you.

If you want to experience Jesus as you never have before, let Him be unveiled in His amazing grace.

What an incredible book carefully unveiling the Person who is grace... Jesus. This is a must- read for church leaders as well as any Christian! Having been raised with a “law+ grace” theology, I finally came to the end of myself and with God because I felt my sin was so great and no matter how much I worked and all the ministry I poured myself into, there was still something wrong with me which made me want to walk away from God altogether.
And then...
The God of Grace revealed truth to me one miraculous day and I have been forever set free and have been on a mission to teach this wonderful Gospel.
I am always looking for excellent resources and this is one of the finest teachings I’ve read yet.
Tricia proves through scripture pure grace!

This is a book I will always reference and teach from.

Life Changing!

This is one of the best books I've ever read. The book explores in great depth through scripture & personal testimony the power of the Gospel of Grace and the life we received from Jesus through His death & resurrection. It uncovers how religion can cause us to forget our true identity as children of God and leads you out form under this as you journey through its pages!

Incredible. Sometimes when we go to "drink" from the word of God we come away thirsty still. Unable to quench the need deep in our hearts to connect with a real and good God. This was almost like getting sprayed down with a fireman's hose. So powerful, so jam-packed, it was.... breathtaking. The awe and scope of Jesus, powerfully written.
Grace like you've always needed to hear. Words that carry supernatural healing deep into our hearts and introduce us to the answer the world has been craving. Jesus.

I've read it twice and need to reread it yet again. The depth of wisdom God has breathed on Tricia Gunn is astonishing.

If you only read one book this year - read this. (then read your bible)

First half of the book is great! Love the call to grace, always needed and timely for me.

Second half is a repeat of the first and longer than necessary, so 3 stars for that. But if you need a reminder of how much Jesus loves you, the first half does that ❤️

Absolutely the best theology book I have ever read. I don’t recommend any other book but this one when it comes to explaining the basis of my beliefs. This book is a close to perfect thesis of the new alliance.
