A magical adventure that’s both new and familiar at the same time…in a world like something from an enchanted dream…

Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is a role playing game homage to Studio Ghibli films and similar stories of humans, magic, and the creatures of spirit and darkness…

First, the rules are based on fifth edition…with the main races being humans, elves, and two main types of spirit folk. The other dnd races do have options but they work a little differently.

The game is set on a mysterious island where humans and nakudama live side by side, though elements of the spirit realm also pass through.

The island itself is pretty vibrant with a culture of its own (along with clever factions and guilds players can join) as well as settlements with their own NPCs, style, and story options.

This isn’t a hack and slash game (though combat can be hazardous if you venture into the dark eastern side of the island), as it focus more on role play, exploration, and learning about yourself…

Elements of the old world dot the island with old overgrown vehicles (some abandoned, occupied by businesses, or used as travel markets), vending machines (filled with fantasy items and usually guarded by someone…or something), and lots of other scattered technology (repurposed as weapons, armor, or magic items).

There’s also a pretty lengthy exhaustive magic potion creation guide…that gives a lot of opportunities to make something good based on the one of three types of potions you want to make…

Very creative and worth giving a try with the right group…

This book struggles from an organization stand point. What do my player need to know and when should they know it? You might find out 5 pages later or not realize how things are interconnected at all. The art is great the game design fun, the group I DM for has been liking it
