Sterling Brothers Ranch #6

My Accident with the Cowboy

Rate this book
One florist with a dream to have a baby of her own, one cowboy with a fear of never living up to his brothers, and a night that changes everything…

DARCY

Having a baby is one of the few things I really want. Even if I have to do it alone. I’ve got a successful business blossoming into something truly amazing with a contract from the new Sterling Ranch wedding venue, but now I need something more. I’m prepared to do it all on my own, even though my heart yearns for my best friend, Reed Sterling. But three months after we spend a night together, I get a call that changes everything…

REED

There’s a lot to live up to in my home. My older brothers are all falling in love, and I’m starting to feel like I’m falling behind. It only gets worse when my best friend tells me she wants to get pregnant and raise her baby alone. But then one night changes everything. A total accident after too many drinks. Then three months later, the thing she wants most comes true. Only it’s not a sperm donor who gives it to her.

MY ACCIDENT WITH THE COWBOY is a steamy, small town, instalove novella that follows the youngest cowboy Reed Sterling and his best friend Darcy Sutton after a drunken night together that leads them to realising they have not-so-accidental baby coming…

Darcy and Reed

My Accident with the Cowboy is Book 6 of the Sterling Brothers Ranch series. It's a short and steamy, friends-to-lovers, accidental pregnancy, mutual-pining, curvy girl gets her cowboy romance. Darcy is a sweet and curvy florist who longs for a baby. Reed is a hunky cowboy and her best friend. The two have been in love with each other forever, but are afraid of losing their friendship. Darcy also has commitment issues due to her father who never made family a priority. When Reed and Darcy go out one night, they end up drunk and in bed together. Fast forward three months and she's pregnant. Reed is over the moon excited and determined to show Darcy that he's there and not leaving. Can she let him fully in? These two had such great chemistry. We got a great HEA too after Darcy finally let go of her fears. I loved it.

He’s been in love with his best friend for years, holding back because having her in his life in any way was better than risking it all. She’s loved him too, but after being abandoned by her father, she doesn’t quite believe in forever. Instead, she dreams of becoming a mom, even if it means doing it on her own.

But fate has its own plans. One slip-up, one night of crossing that invisible line, and suddenly everything changes. Now she’s pregnant, and avoiding him is no longer an option. What follows is a tender, deeply emotional journey of two people navigating friendship, family, fear, and the overwhelming pull of love that refuses to be denied.

What I loved most is how real their journey felt. He’s protective—sometimes almost too much—but underneath the cowboy strength is a heart that’s soft and loyal, even shedding a few tears that absolutely melted me. She’s independent, strong, and determined, yet watching her open her heart to the idea that love doesn’t mean loss was beautiful. Their chemistry sizzles, but it’s the sweetness—the shared glances, the quiet reassurances, the “we’re in this together” moments—that truly made my heart ache in the best way.

This story is more than just friends-to-lovers or an unexpected pregnancy romance—it’s about trust, about letting go of fear, and about realizing that sometimes love doesn’t ruin friendship, it makes it unshakable. A perfect, emotional, and satisfying end to the Sterling family’s story.

This is the 6th book in the Sterling Brother's series. You do not have to read them all or read them in order as each story is a complete stand alone. However there is an overall family ranch arc that builds as the series goes on. This is youngest brother Reed's story. He has been in love with his best friend for years. He has held back not saying anything, wanting more to be in her life than to risk losing her.

She loves him and always has, but after her dad abandoned the family she doesn't trust in happily ever after. She wants to be a mom and is thinking about doing it herself. Just when she is ready to put her plan in motion she finds out that she is already pregnant, and she knows exactly who the dad is. They had one slip up, one night and she has been avoiding him since then, but this changes everything.

This is a sweet ending for the Sterling family, they were friends first, and learn how to navigate their changing relationship as expectant parents. They both have feelings for the other, and chemistry that is drawing them together, but this is also more tender as they both want to move forward without losing the other. He feels possessive of her, especially when she tells him she is going to try to become a mom by herself, but he also has a big marshmallow center and sheds a few tears along the way. A really sweet story and a great epilogue to give you the ever after.

I liked this one. It’s less about Reed being a cowboy and more about he and Darcy being future parents. I love the Friends to Lovers trope, and it’s done well here. Because it’s not a full-length novel, it doesn’t go deep into the history of their friendship, and I think the book does not suffer for it. The book was the perfect length for the story elements to become a cohesive whole. I think the characters were very cute when they compared the baby’s size to the fruit indicated by the baby book and pregnancy app; it was sweet when they were calling it lemon.
The only thing that I didn’t like was when she didn’t seem to like the idea of living on the ranch. The book never explained why, and it seems that they ended up building a cabin on the ranch anyway, so it was a loose end.

Reed and Darcy were life long bestfriends. They shared everything, and they had been secretly in love with each other for years, but they were to afraid of hurting their friendship if they said anything. Darcy wanted a baby, and she was going to go to a fertility clinic, which was killing Reed. But he did not say anything. He helped her celebrate her decision. Darcy kept telling Reed that she could do it alone, but he was like maybe you do not have to it alone. He would always be there every step of the way. She afraid to tell her mother her plans and then about the baby. She tried to be strong, but Reed was there every step of the way. Really enjoyed how persistent Reed was in his pursuit of Darcy.

This is a fantastic short book filled with plenty of steam. Mable returns to her hometown after her roommates cheat her out of her apartment. Now she faces the man she has loved for as long as she can remember, Walter, her brother's best friend. Suddenly, Walter realizes the beautiful woman isn't the young girl he once remembered. Now she's the one he wants to spend his future with. I love Walter and Mable. An excellent book with a perfect happy ending.

Always together as best friends, both in love with the other. Both scared to take that next step. Darcy has insecurities from a father who picked work over her.
She wants to be a Mom, and is ready to do it on her own. She tells Reed her plan and they celebrate with a lot of whiskey. 3 months later they are navigating a pregnancy. Reed has to keep showing up, letting Darcy know she comes first and proving he is not her Dad.

Mabel returns to Willow Ridge, after college to live with her over protective brother. But it also means Garrett her brothers best friend is back in her life. She's had a crush on him all her life. To escape her bossy brother she asks Garrett if she can stay at his house for a break! Its a great age gap, brothers best friend romance, that's well written, with great characters.

“My Accident with the Cowboy” by Lainey Winters

-A tender friends-to-lovers story wrapped in unexpected pregnancy and small-town charm. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Reed’s quiet devotion and Darcy’s strength make their journey emotional and real. Protectiveness, vulnerability, and sizzling chemistry balance beautifully with heart.

A perfect addition to the enjoyable Sterling family saga—sweet, emotional, and deeply satisfying.

My Accident with the Cowboy: (An accidental pregnancy cowboy romance) is book 6 of the Sterling Brothers Ranch series. This is Reed and Darcy's story. The story line was great. It is a short read, steamy, sweet cowboy romance. The characters were likable, relatable, and interesting. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what else this series has.

Reed Sterling and Darcy Mae Sutton.

5/5 ✨️
2/5🌶

The story was a very cute short story and honestly, I really loved it. They are best friends who love each other but to afraid to say anything to each other. So they don't cross that line until too much drinking and celebrating that a perfect cute little accident made everything go upside down but in a good way.
It's a must-read story.

Best friends always forever with a twist. How one night they get carried away with a good time only to be surprised nine weeks later. Liked the story, but was a little put off by the FMC, as she projected all her fears on MMC, when he had been nothing but a best friend who’s always been there. Enjoyed how everything cleared up for them.

This book is easy to read, nothing heavy with drama and nothing going with miscommunication like most of love stories. Instalove all the way! I was hoping to read more about Cowboy thing not only they live in ranches but the story is still good.

super cute story of best friends to lovers❤️ The Communication is top notch, but took a while for them to confess to each other which was frustrating in a good way to read knowing both their POVS but soo good overall.

Look it was a chill book. My issue. IT WAS A FUCKING NOVELLA. 80 pages or whatever and I’m done. I felt ripped off. Not bad but my gosh let me have more pages give it some more plot or some shit. I dunno I felt like I was so dumb for getting into a book that was a novella quick read or whatever but hot damn

Darcy has a plan for her future. It’s not convenient, not conventional, but it will be the best for her. She is concerned about how it might change her relationship with her best friend when he finds out her intentions and her decision to not include him in it.
My Accident with the Cowboy is a part of the Sterling Brother’s Ranch series, book 6. A great storyline with amazing characters that was a great enjoyable spicy read, a five-star story.
