A drug cartel gives Dallas defense lawyer Cash McCahill an ultimatum: betray his client or face death. He refuses to turn on his client, prompting the cartel to put out a hit on him.

Instead of going on the run, he hides in plain sight by surgically altering his face and stealing the identity of a dead cop twenty years his senior. Only two people know his secret: the surgeon who gave him a new face and Tina Campos, a trans woman who introduced Cash to the surgeon and who works as a paralegal in Cash’s law firm.

Burrowed deep underground, Cash remains safe and secluded until a killer stalks and kills several trans women. The victims all have links to Tina, and the killer closes in on her. Protecting Tina forces Cash out of hiding and into the open, where he faces not one but two deadly threats.

Put your phone on do-not-disturb. Once you start “Chasing the Chameleon”, you won’t want to be interrupted. Written with razor-sharp authenticity, this gripping story delivers everything you want from a thriller–explosive action, a relentless pace, and a protagonist who won’t quit.

What would you do if the only way to survive was to become someone else?👀🔪

Cash McCahill is a Dallas defense lawyer who gets the world’s worst ultimatum from a drug cartel: betray your client or die. He refuses, which I respected immediately, but instead of going on the run when a hit is put out on him, he does something wild.

He surgically changes his face. And steals the identity of a dead cop twenty years older than him.

The paranoia in this book? So good. Cash hiding in plain sight, living underground literally and emotionally, trying to stay invisible while carrying this massive secret, t it felt tense without being over-the-top.

But what really pulled me in was Tina. She’s one of only two people who knows who Cash really is, and when a killer starts targeting trans women connected to her, the stakes get personal fast. Cash being forced out of hiding to protect her shifts the story from man surviving the cartel to man choosing who he’s willing to risk everything for.

It’s part legal thriller, part identity drama, part cat-and-mouse chase, and I loved how it explored the idea of reinvention. Can you really escape who you were? Or does it always catch up to you?

Fast-paced, gritty, and full of close calls, this one kept me flipping pages just waiting for the moment everything would explode.

Way to go Paul!

Paul Coggins has done it again! Chasing the Chameleon is the best, in my opinion, of the Cash books! The intrigue, the puns, the complex plot and the fascinating characters all combined to create a compelling read that kept me turning the virtual page.
