Lucciano Culver was wild and reckless in his teens and early twenties. As he matured, he realized a few things. The first revelation was that he'd prefer loyalty over love any day. His second epiphany taught him that a trifling woman could be a man's downfall. He could have remained single, or he could have moved smart. Lucci chose the latter. When he picked his partner, he chose a solid woman that he could trust and not one that he was madly in love with. After all, that fairytale romance BS was for women. He was a realist. Lucci is fine being in a relationship with a woman that he looks at as more a best friend than a soulmate until temptation saunters into his life in the form of a bad ass female that likes fast cars and good times. Lucci has never been faced with the task of following his head or his heart.
The MMC is a loser idc how you try and sell it, he was with a lady cus she was “safe” but didn’t even really like her talked down about her even though she was EXACTLY who she had been the whole time. Got that lady evicted, got that lady shot and just wasted her time knowing he didn’t want her and that she wasn’t gonna walk away. He placed all the responsibility on her to end the relationship instead of GETTING GONE. The dying brother subplot was flat we only spent 2 seconds with Tyler so as a reader I didn’t care he died, we ain’t know him. It was just stuff included and I don’t see the reason. “Deadbeat mom”, “robbing folks/ the Nigerian” Gavin all of it was useless and didn’t give anything worthwhile to the story. This just wasn’t good him and Breezy had sexual chemistry but ain’t never see them on a date he ain’t wine and dine that lady ain’t treat her like nothing special. Then went back to Kiandra at one point. Sorry wasn’t a thing about this romantic
I liked this story but I could NOT stand Lucci! To be so bold and brazen in the streets, he was acting too scary and too much like a coward when it came to being honest about his feelings with Kiandra. He wanted someone loyal just to resent her for sticking beside him, kept a mental list of reasons of how she fell short in the relationship, and only to stay with her out of obligation instead of just having the hard conversation knowing she was truly in love with him. This is the recipe for a Snapped or Dateline episode! He even had the audacity to act territorial over another woman while still fulfilling his "obligation" to Kiandra. I liked the FMC, Breezy, and was excited for the introduction to the Hellcat Barbies. I pray I never fall for a man who just tolerates me or does me a “solid” by staying with me out of obligation knowing he's miserable and resentful.
I was so hurt that Tyler had to pass! Kiandra got omn but I was happy to know she had finally moved on. I was surprised that Breezy didn’t get pregnant bc they were definitely get it in. I would love an update.
Wheww ,let me just say Lucci had me on edge cause I was sitting here like is my guy gonna ever get his life together? Is he gonna stop being in the streets! So I’m happy that he was able to end up getting his real estate license and finally wanting better for himself specially after both tragic incidents,Breezy was such a vibe and I love me a car girly so I think this was our introduction to a car girl world. I’ll tell y’all I can’t wait. Breezy was definitely a vibe. My girl was on her girl boss status .She was most definitely what Lucci needed by his side to go ahead and help him become a better man.
From the very start, this book resonated with me much more than I had anticipated. It was a realistic, nuanced read that dug deeper than the usual ‘hood’ fare. I’ve read some of the issues people had with it and I don’t disagree. Did Lucci waste Kiandra’s time? Absolutely. Was he a coward when he realized he didn’t want to be with her anymore? Definitely. But he owned all of that. What really worked for me was the way the author laid out each person’s perspective. For the most part, I didn’t feel anyone was ‘wrong’. Each person was justified in their feelings/hurt/anger.
Lucci genuinely felt that having a solid woman by his side, who stood with him in hard times and who was trustworthy, was more important than someone that gave him stomach butterflies. He had seen too many men lose everything behind a woman that they loved deeply, who was not loyal. I don’t think he set out to ‘use’ Kiandra. He, himself, was willing to sacrifice love for loyalty. Here’s the thing. People do this every day! There are so many men who admit their wife is a good woman and a great mother, but she is NOT the woman they wanted. There are women willing to be with men because he’s a provider, even though he’s not her dream man. I respected that Lucci never cheated on Kiandra; he never entertained temptation or put himself in a position for anyone to disrespect her. He treated her well, paid all her bills, and more importantly, until he told Breezy he wasn’t in love with Kiandra (I gasped when he did that because it was so unlike the way he’d conducted himself up until that point), he had never disparaged her to anyone. Nobody was looking at Kiandra like he’s just with her because X. EVERYONE was looking at them like, ‘Why is he so loyal to her? She’s so plain.’ She was pretty, but not ‘sexy’. To be clear, I’m not saying Lucci is blameless here. I’m saying I understood him, especially because the author made sure to have a few different things happen in his life that served as the catalyst for him choosing himself.
Kiandra was loyal to a fault. Even though her family hated Lucci and felt she could do better, even when she got hurt, and it really kind of makes you ask why she didn’t want better for herself. Lucci was dead wrong to pick that fight with her to finally get her to choose herself, but at a certain point after they broke up, and she still wouldn’t back off, I was like, sis!! Salvage your dignity and save yourself. Either way, she was entirely justified in feeling like Lucci wasted her time, and was with her out of charity.
Her parents were absolutely justified in hating Lucci at every turn, right to the end.
Breezy tried to do the right thing and give Lucci the space to do what he needed to with Kiandra after they broke up. She and Lucci never did anything while he was still with Kiandra, but 2.5 seconds after he moved out, it was on and popping. I actually loved the chemistry between her and Lucci. Lucci had been perfectly happy to cruise along on neutral, until he met someone he couldn’t stop thinking about, someone he absolutely did not want with anyone else, and though he tried to step back because she also deserved better than him, he could not be as magnanimous because he wanted HER! I do feel that Breezy going over to his place after the gala was wack. Like why? What changed? Because Kiandra said she was officially stepping back? It was up to Lucci to step up and show her he was serious and worthy. Having said that, I love that Lucci had already started making changes to his life on his own, and Breezy just added to it.
I also didn’t love Lucci’s mom’s conversation with him. Yes, some of what she said was true, but also as his mother, she should not have had him shy away from owning his part in all this. How does speaking with her give him permission to feel LESS accountability than he was already feeling? Nope.
Storyline wise, it was fine. The artwork stuff was a bit fantastical, but the rest of it was great. The loss of the family member was hard.
I loved the ending, and was especially happy that Kiandra found her own joy. Definitely a book I would read again. I’ll see if my opinion changes when I do.
I'm giving this a 5-star rating simply because it was a different read for me. Usually we're fawning over the MMC in this case Lucci's character was realistic. He had a lot of growing up to do. This wasn't your typical fairytale and I appreciated that. There were consequences for actions and realistic responses to situations. I was relieved it didn't end with the typical FMC accidentally getting pregnant after reckless sex😂They were responsible and I liked that. Again, these novels can be short so it's like the narrative feels rushed and condensed. But I still enjoyed it!
Lucci was everything the fact that he was so faithful was steller. He was good because Kiandra was a little cray cray to me. I love how Breezy just kept it pushing and had that nigga coming correct how she broke him down. Natisha the shit Raynor did it again. I like the introduction of the Hellcat Barbies. Natisha is my dope ass author😍
Lucci was big on fidelity but settling nonetheless. I don’t know what’s worse. Breezy was a dope chick and certainly showed him it was more to life than settling.
Off the rip Lucci sounds like a loser - fraud and robbing instead of getting a job. And poor Kiandria is in love with a man that’s with her due to obligation.
Breezy said she’s not bothered by her moms absence on her childhood now that she’s an adult but mentions it quite often. I’d say she’s very affected by it.
Men talk down on women that dress and expose themselves, calling them birds and thots, etc. They claim they want the opposite. Ki is the opposite and her go Lucci thinking she’s not sexy, she’s boring. We can’t win for losing.
I don’t think Lucci should have hit Kiandria father, he should have ate that because he did his daughter dirty. Lucci was everything Kai’s father called him
The rude Gavin arch was unnecessary. Breezy could have just stopped dealing with him.
I never did like Lucci and breezy I could take her or leave her. She never stood on business. I didn’t find a deep connection with the couple. It was a physical. Overall the story was meh. 2.5 but I rounded to 3.
Before I jumped into this book I read a few reviews. And those reviews were all I hate Lucci yadda yadda. I wasn’t sure how anyone could hate the MC so I said let me see what this is about.
This was a damn good story. Not once in my entirety of reading did I have any hatful feelings toward Lucci. It’s funny most of the books we read in this genre are about no good men who cheat constantly and disrespect women then fall in love and change. Lucci was 100 from the get-go. His “profession” wasn’t cool but we read about dope boys and gangsters and it’s all the same. So I’m truly not seeing where the Lucci hate is coming from.
Now there were some things about Breezy that I had to side-eye. Women can be on some stuff even when it’s not called for. And have the nerve to get mad or feel disrespected if someone don’t chase them. But in the end they got themselves together and I’m here for it.
Aww, I didn't think Lucci and Breezy would get there but they did. Lucci had a lot going on and a lot of growing up to do, I guess being shot that second time made him realize that he had to get his stuff together, and I’m so glad that he did for his safety and life.
Breezy on the other hand, she gave him space and grace to get his affairs in order when it came down to ex-girlfriend Kiandra, but she couldn’t hold out because they both were missing each other something terrible, so she showed up at his home to get her man back.
Breezy and Lucci were two souls who needed each other to heal each other in a way only they could. You can say that they both redeemed each other when it came down to relationships, but the road getting there was hard, but they got their happily ever after.
It was okay. And I did enjoyed it! However, the story felt (specially at the beginning) without a proper storyline. I honestly had no idea what was happening, what was the reason for anything (beyond him and his girlfriend having a toxic relationship). I wish he would have been more focused on himself and less on the women in his life! His story was good, those kind of stories that you can learn from and be proud of. Something that I didn’t liked that much is the super colloquial dialogue, probably because I wasn’t the intended audience (maybe?). I would like to think that the author wants her books to be read, enjoyed and understood by everyone and not only a group of people. But it is what it is! I hope her next works are more emotional and as real as this one.
This was an okay read for me. Lucci was too old to still be running around like a YN and how are you a jackboy that carries a gun but keep getting shot at but don’t ever return fire. Breezy was very likable and just a vibe by herself but she was díckmatized by Lucci because myself personally would have been scared to get involved with him when he’s always being shot at. What happened to the African after Lucci and Maino got shot because clearly he wasn’t trying to accept an $8M dollar loss? I like this book was an introduction to the Hellcat Barbies and I can’t wait to end that series dropping next month.
Luciano was a good man but made horrible choices on how he made us money! Like dang, out of all the things you could do you choose something guaranteed to get you shot up and almost killed! Luciano was too loyal to Ki. Like enough is enough! Breezy was the star of the show! She was a boss, had great friends and a good relationship with her dad. Although there was some mommy issues, she handled that situation well. The car accident didn’t even have to happen, that was just wrong!
Breezy and Luciano made a perfect couple. Even more so when Luciano got his ish together!
Great read! Lucci was a different type of dude, but he was loyal and was willing to sacrifice his own happiness by staying in. a loveless or one sided.type of love, until Breezy touched him in ways he didn't know he had such feelings inside of him.
Breezy was a boss in her own right. She was smart and driven. She wanted to be respectful of Lucci relationship, but once.he.was on a break. with no plans of going back, all bets were off!
Lucci and Breezy suffered some losses as well. Lucci and Breezy were meant to be together. The peaks and valleys were worth it in the end!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Lucci was an interesting MMC, and into a bunch of ish!!!!
Some interesting events took place that had him crashing out. I was waiting with baited breath to see how his situation-ship would pan out. His motto loyalty over everything, but homie needed it to re-evaluate that situation vs. bobbing and weaving.
Would Lucci get his girl the MMC! Will there be an HEA! What he continued to do, I wondered if he will get redemption, and what would happened because ish came down to the wire (wipe brows).
Aww, I didn't think Lucci and Breezy would get there but they did. Lucci had a lot going on and a lot of growing up to do. It took him getting shot a second time to finally get his act together.
Breezy gave him space, but they both were miserable missing each other.
They both were two souls who needed each other to heal. Getting there was hard, but they got their happily ever after.
I love Lucci. He was loyal, serious, not a cheater and actually knew what love was. It said that he lost his brother and went on a rampage, but the Africans brought him back to reality. I’m glad him and Maino survived. It hurt me when he told his mom the truth and how she reacted. Breezy and was really the one for him Kiandra was a fool in love! She really tried, but Lucci just didn’t love her. Lucci had love for her though. Glad she found her happiness.
This book wasn’t really pulling me in and Lucci staying somewhere he’s not happy and he’s starting to be resentful. He seems to be headed somewhere dark with the little flashes of cravings for coke, I know it’s more than likely not going somewhere but I don’t even want to go for the ride however short it may be. Also, you can tell that he’s gonna at least go back to his ex once
Some people prefer loyalty, some rather love or connivence. Feeling you owe someone something rather than inform them you not happy with the outcome of your relationship. Staying in an unhappy situation stringing the person along will make you look or feel like the villain no matter the circumstances.
This book made me look back at past relationships. I was one of those who gave more than he did, but when I had enough, that was it, and they are trying to get back in, Nope, done, your loss!!! Lucci was an exceptional man, even though it took him hurting them both to get it right, but he eventually did. Loved the ending!!!
I really don’t know what I was expecting when I started reading, but I actually enjoyed it and give it a 4.5 rating. Lucia was already lost, but after his brother died, he became reckless. Ki was delusional but I’m glad that she finally moved on and Lucci and Breezy worked things out.
Let's start with thier names; Lucciano and Breezy. Loved their uniqueness just as much as I loved their journey. Lucci was a man I loved to hate, but boy, oh boy, he was so easy to love. Breezy was a breath of fresh air; a baddie, and about her business.
This was an OK read. I was sad about Tyler in the very beginning. Kiandra was foolishly in love or in super denial. The book was actually kind of boring to me, but I was invested to finish it.
Natisha is one of my favorite authors but Lucci was not a likeable character to me. He's care was real, raw, Gritty, and sexy but he was not book bae. I enjoyed the journey and the ending. Overall good read
I enjoyed the storyline of this book. There were things that happened off page that I feel would have added to the characters development and persona. It was still entertaining and left me excited for the Hellcat Barbie series.
Very relatable. I thought Kiandra was going to stay in the way of Lucci and Breezy. The story really shows that things you do doesn’t really define you it’s what you do to fix them. I love how everyone had a support system and things just fell into place. 4.5
loved it from beginning to the end. Lucci that's it that's all. I did not like Kiandra for Lucci she didn't seem like a good mix for him .Glad that Breezy and Lucci met. Glad that Breezy and Lucci got together. I hate that Tyler passed. Can't wait to see what's next
The fact that he was able to turn his life around for Brezzy and himself was pure bliss, and that kiandre was able to find the type of love she deserved because you can’t force someone to love you like you loved them
