The Double Life of a High-Functioning Alcoholic: Addiction, Lies, and the Courage to Quit Drinking Alcohol

Rate this book
Dave looked strong. He looked in control. The truth was not.

The Double Life of a High-Functioning Alcoholic is the story of a man who seemed to have it all and almost lost everything to alcohol. Work was steady. Family looked happy. Friends saw success. But inside, drinking was calling the shots. Quietly. Daily. Always.

This book, inspired by true events, pulls you straight into the hidden world of a high-functioning alcoholic.

Different from traditional self-help books or self-help guides, this memoir-style story shows the human side of alcoholism. The secrecy, the shame, and the fight to reclaim a life worth living. It offers hope, courage, and the reminder that recovery is always possible.

You won’t just learn what it looks like. You’ll feel it.

The denial. The quiet unraveling. The small choices that slowly lead to big damage. You’ll live the fear, the shame, and the crushing weight of a double life. And when the breaking point comes, you’ll witness what it truly takes to put down the bottle and begin again.

If you are searching for alcohol recovery books, sobriety stories, or inspiration to quit drinking alcohol, this book is for you.

Read The Double Life of a High-Functioning Alcoholic today and step into a story that will break your heart, stir your soul, and remind you that it’s never too late to begin again.

Honest, open, painful and uplifting

I chose this book to help me better understand the struggles my alcoholic daughter is experiencing as she tries to break an alcoholic stranglehold. I, as well, needed to break free from my misconceptions, frustrations and judgment.
The depth and breadth of this book has stunned me, honestly. The perspectives shared, the tools, the emphasis on what can be built and freed up really opened my eyes. I can use these tools personally for my own emotional struggles, as well as being a better support for my daughter.
What a gift.
Thank you, Howard Kane.

Another strong aspect of the book is the message of hope. Despite the painful realities of addiction, the narrative highlights the courage it takes to admit the problem and begin the path to recovery. It reminds readers that change is possible, even for those who feel trapped in a cycle of secrecy and dependence.

something I never experienced

I had no idea how hard it is to stop drinking. I cannot drink as it makes me sick. I wonder why we allow alcohol to dominate our society. It is weakness.

Hard but good read. While I may never fully understand the disease of alcoholism, I thought this book was enlightening to those of us who have a friend of loved one who is struggling. It gave me some insight that I might otherwise not be able to gain.
