The Pit has been opened, and with the Sun Queen gone, darkness has taken hold in the Realm of Ljord. Monsters now reside in the city, and mortals hide in their designated district, generously given to them by the new ruler.

Sariel. Drake Prince. Sun killer.

The one who wielded the weapon that cast the Sun Queen down into the Pit now governs this realm with a heavy crown, tussling with guilt and managing seven districts of monsters and mortals. When whispers of plans reach him that suggest someone is vying for power and threatening the mortals he decided to keep safe, he must work with his enemy to put an end to them.

Lena. Princess. The Moon.

The Sun Queen's twin, Lena, felt the pain of her death across Realms and has returned from her Valkyrie training seeking vengeance. But she, too, learns of these malevolent plans and must find a way to work with her sworn enemy to save the mortals.

This was a wonderfully written book with very diverse characters, I particularly enjoyed the premise of the book with regards to the storyline! And of course, Artemis.

I did find it to be a little slow going at the start but once I hit part 2 I couldn't put the book down! I hope there's more to the series and that we get this semi-soon!!!

Arc: Tenebris book 1 from the dark sun series van Jade Lamb.

Tenebris really surprised me in the best way. The world Jade Lamb has created feels tense and alive. I loved that simmering sense of danger, the kind that makes you lean in because you just know something is coming. The twists landed, and I was genuinely invested in every new reveal. There were moments where I had to pause and just take in how cleverly everything was unfolding.

And the side characters. I adored the messy, heartfelt little connections. Those found family threads gave the story so much warmth. Each character felt distinct and necessary, bringing humour, softness or unpredictability exactly when the story needed it.

My only real wish is that some parts of the lore and magic had a bit more room to breathe. There were scenes where I wanted just a touch more clarity or detail because the world is so interesting and I could feel how much potential was there. But honestly it didn’t take much away from how much I enjoyed the journey.

Overall, Tenebris is dark, emotional and quietly hopeful in a way that really resonated with me. I’m happily giving it four stars, and I’m already excited to see where the series goes next!

WTF were the last 3 chapters, MINIMUM?! The plot twist be twisty man! I kinda expected some of the twists, but they were so dramatically set up, in a good way of course. The betrayl was CRAZY! As the story moved along I couldn't help but to feel bad for the prince and start to think that Oria was a nut-job. If you're not BIG into political intrigue and heavy story based plot/fantasy, then this book is not for you. The beginning and into half the book is very much setting up the world and conflict, not tooooo much action. Also, the love triangle very much gives Vampire Diaries, but like Klaus versus Stephen 😂♥️ A very much dark, morally grey, dangerous, bad boy, killer dragon (literally he's a drake) vs. worshiping from before she even knew, would give her his own heart from his chest if she so asked, and possessively a little crazy sunshine muscle...what more could a girl want 💁‍♀️ If you love your fantasy thic with political intrigue, your men morally grey and worshipping, plot twists building throughout the entire book, and multiple fantasy creatures combining into one interesting story, I would recommend ♥️

Tenebris by Jade Lamb is a dark, atmospheric romantasy that delivers a gripping start to The Dark Sun world and easily earns 4 stars. The story leans into its brooding tone, rich magic, and dangerous stakes, with a realm plunged into darkness, a reluctant prince, and a vengeful princess at its heart. The setup is immediately compelling and full of tension, giving the whole book a restless, shadowed energy. The characters are a real highlight: complex, morally grey, and often at odds, with enemies-to-lovers and love-triangle vibes, plus a dash of why-choose darkness and yearning. The romance threads through the political and supernatural turmoil in a way that feels intense and addictive, helped along by vivid side characters and some very memorable, open-door moments.
With its intricate worldbuilding, dark magic, and emotional pull, Tenebris is a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging read, especially for readers who love villainy, angst, and romantic chaos woven into their fantasy. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

eARC review!

Tenebris is an interesting amalgam of magic and paranormal species, and I thought the way it pulled from different mythologies was done well. I did find the pacing of the book overall to be a little slow though, and I wish that there had been more action. For all Lena’s training and hype as a Valkyrie, I was expecting her to be a more brutally efficient warrior, especially against the fairly small groups of attackers she faced throughout the book. I also struggled a bit with the love triangle. I didn’t think that the actual relationships Lena had with either MMC were developed as as much as they could’ve been to really explore more than simple feelings of lust after feeling lonely for 20 plus years.

By the end of the book, I did feel invested in the plight of the mortals, and I wanted to know how Lena and Sariel would pull through for them. The twist ending though felt like it came out of nowhere, and the timing of everything felt very convenient. Ending the book with an epilogue from Artemis’s POV feels like some heavy foreshadowing for book 2 though, so I’m definitely interested to see how the magic of this world develops.

This book is beautifully written.

This book is beautifully written. Jade’s prose is rich and atmospheric without being heavy, and she has such a strong visual touch—the perpetual night, the different qualities of light, the luminous mushrooms, the shadows, the mirrors—it all feels vivid and beautiful. The chapter openers are awesome too, adding extra lore and tension, and when the action kicks in, the pacing had my adrenaline pumping. I also loved the worldbuilding, it's layered and immersive.

The side characters absolutely stole my heart. Artemis is a standout and I loved every page he was on—loyal, sweet, just adorable! Agatha was another favourite: relatable, thirsty, sharp, and a total badass—my spirit animal. And yes, I fully swooned over Sariel—morally grey, burdened, intense, hot AF, and exactly the kind of character I love falling into a book for.

This story has big stakes, big feelings, and a strong series hook, and I can see so many readers completely devouring it.
A very easy 5 stars from me!

Tenebris by Jade Lamb absolutely SAT me.
These characters? Complex doesn’t even begin to cover it. Sariel is all brooding darkness, dragging his guilt and shame around like a second skin. Lena, though. LENA. I’m obsessed. A physically imposing, resilient FMC with actual muscle? As a powerlifter, I felt seen in the best possible way.

Tyr… bless him. He reads a little naive to me, more enamoured with the idea of Lena than the reality of who she is. Agatha, on the other hand, is someone I desperately want more page time with. And Artemis? I never expected to find a ghoul adorable, but here we are. He’s a squishy little shadow creature of my heart.

The worldbuilding grabbed me just as hard. The factions of monsters forming their own kind of council was such a cool take, and that ending? Absolutely diabolical. I need the next book immediately, please and thank you

This was a well written book. Slightly to much fantasy for me but that is personal preference and not detrimental to the book. I did however find it a but slow going, but if you like world building then you will like it. I like the love triangle aspect, and the fact that the FMC is a bad ass to begin with, not the usual helpless female turned warrior, although she isn't the only female character I like. Plenty of decent side characters, but it was the ending that blew me! What! It only has some slight spice, so it doesn't take over and swallow the plot.
I received this book as an arc and I leave my review voluntarily. This is an honest review and all my thoughts are my own.

This book was actually really good. Enemies to (almost) lovers, a plot twist at the end (and if you've read enough fantasy maybe not so plot twisty lol), but very good! I loved the FMC, she was strong willed, and knew what she wanted, at times a little annoying and seemed to have her strength and power leave her at the worst times, and the MMC was interesting as well. He had a cloudy background where you knew that he was conflicted but could almost see his internal war with his mind and what he wanted. I am excited for the next book!!

Great entry and read for the romantasy genre. The characters feel alive and the way most of them interact with one another is a fun blend of trying guess what’s next as to how their relationships are going to develop.
I will say there are a few instances of moments where “this has to be done a certain way” that the logic didn’t really land for me but overall a very enjoyable read and a very well paced book

I was not sure what to expect, but when this fantasy has lines like "throwing his warning over his shoulder like spilled salt for luck" you know it is going to be a stunning read.

And I was not disappointed! Tyr is hot with his slvtty little glasses and strong despite being mortal, while Sariel? He's all shadow Daddy vibes from the start.

With a very real 'meeting that should have been an email' vibe drawing a relatable ennui for the prince to battle scenes that had me literally on the edge of my seat, this is the type of epic romance that pulls you from emotion to emotion.

Best bit for me?

Artemis.

I swear to all the gods, if something happens to him, I will riot.

This is a open door spicy romantasy with a bit of a 'why choose' sprinkle, which I love, but it is also a real morality tale - with a cliffhanger that will leave you gasping.

such a good book, I am salivating for book 2 - and I have had to take a break from fantasy for a moment to process Tenebris.
