Dark Perceptions

Rate this book
Love is stronger than fear…or is it?

The last thing Sara remembers is a conflicted night out with her boyfriend, Matt, and laying out under the dark night’s sky. How she came to be seated among the crowd under the Big Top is a mystery. When and how did she get there? She doesn’t wait to find out. Whether it’s due to basic fear or the scary, hideous clowns, Sara and Matt run. Run beyond the tent walls into the deep, dark alleys of the carnival. What they find along their mad dash to the parking lot will have them redefining their idea of fun zones, thrill rides, and date nights. Fear is an eat-you-alive monster. Refusing to be defined by that monster, they will confront those fears. What they find―

Perceptions can be excruciatingly misleading…and some monsters have hidden claws.

Mama’s Thoughts on the Mystic Carnival novellas:
Wow, what a whirlwind of words! These short books pack quite the mouthy punch, filling your senses and taking you on a wild ride through a supernaturally touched world of wonders. In each installment we meet a variety of interesting characters, but in the two dragon books we focus on Kyra, a wickedly funny, strong heroine caught up in a fight she didn’t know she picked, with entities she didn’t know existed. I enjoyed the descriptive journey through the carnival each time it appeared, and wanted to know more about some of the other, barely mentioned inhabitants. The relationships were not very strong in these books, but I think it’s hard to put too much effort in something that’s not the focus of your story, especially with so few pages to do it in. These are quick reads and there’s action to keep things nice and fast moving, though at times I felt I wanted things to slow down just a bit. I’d give these 3.5 stars for a great time!

Contemporary, Paranormal Romance

Sara remembers a night out with her boyfriend, Matt laying out under the dark night’s sky. The next thing she knows is somehow she is seated with a crowd under the Big Top with no idea how she got there. She also has no idea of when she got there either. She doesn’t stick around to find out. Sara and Matt run either because of basic fear or because of the hideous, scary clowns. They run beyond the tent walls deep into the carnival. What they find is the dark alleys of the carnivals that changes their whole idea of thrill rides, fun zones and date nights. The fear is enough to eat them alive but they refuse to let it define them and they confront those fears. They end up finding that perceptions can be very misleading and that some monsters have claws you never see coming until too late.

This is a story that takes the reader on as much of a ride as the characters find at the carnival. Just as the reader thinks they know what is going on a new twist is thrown at them that will have them second guessing just what is going on. This story is part of a series that will have readers wanting to get the others just to see exactly where this one will take them. It ends with a cliffhanger that works well with the overall story. The reader finds out more of what is going on at the same time that the characters do so it makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story. It is an interesting premise and will be interesting to see just where this series will end.

What a crazy ride! The only thing I can compare it to is Alice in Wonderland. It had a completely trippy feel to it as Sara and Matt fell deeper into the rabbit hole of eerie, creepy clowns in a Big Top circus.
Sara and Matt were on a date when Sara appeared in this crazy circus with scary clowns. Trying to escape them she runs into Matt. Together they both try to leave only to be spit right back into the middle of the circus. With crazy clowns, seductive snake charmers, and trippy rides around the corner how can they escape? Is this all a dream or a really big trip?

Great second book, where in Sara and Matt have a rough conflicting night. All Clowns seem out to murder them, Sara wants to run away but will she manage?
Short story but it isn't less darkness, action, Thriller, were you can see again that fear is your worst enemy. Look forwards to the next book.

This was a fascinating, twisty story. And a fast read. :-)
