The first hint that this magical town is teetering on the edge of supernatural disaster? The corpse in the cauldron. Not attracting attention in Willowbark is a little hard to do when your inherited apothecary shop is brimming with magic, your cat might be a dragon, and someone just turned up dead in the middle of the Halloween festival… inside one of the decorative cauldrons. Festive, right?
Add in local witches, vampires with attitude problems, and a coven watching my every move, and yeah—blending in isn’t exactly going well.
I’m Aurora Hart. Middle-aged apothecary. Occasional spell-caster. Reluctant untangler of magical messes. I came back to Willowbark thinking I’d heal some hearts, keep my head down, and maybe brew a few calming teas. Instead, I’m knee-deep in a murder, a centuries-old pact no one wants to talk about, and a broody stranger whose very presence seems to be ticking someone off in a very murdery way.
The town may look quaint, but don’t let the cinnamon-sugar smiles fool you—magic here is hidden for a reason. And someone’s willing to kill to bring it to light.

BLURB: Aurora Hart inherits her grandmother’s apothecary in Willowbark & discovers a murder victim marked by mysterious magic, getting entangled in a mystery hiding dangerous secrets.
REVIEW: I’m a big fan of cozy witchy mysteries, so I went into this book expecting exactly that—but I got much more! This is the first book in the Witches Of Willowbark Cozy Mystery series, and the story follows FMC Aurora as she settles into Willowbark—a hidden supernatural town where witches, vampires, and humans live alongside one another. It reminded me a bit of Mystic Falls from The Vampire Diaries, but with witchy vibes. There’s a central whodunnit murder mystery after a man is found “seemingly killed” by a vampire and marked by a mysterious symbol. But the heart of the book is Aurora’s journey of self-discovery, overcoming her self-doubt, and yearning to find a place where she belongs, which I found very relatable. Despite being just 184 pages, the story packs in a good amount of world-building, memorable characters, and twists and turns. And trope lovers will find a lot to love—fish out of water protagonist, amateur sleuthing, found family, magical apothecary, magical familiar, and even a Halloween festival, perfect for a spooky season read!
The entire book is told through Aurora’s first-person POV, and her authenticity made her so easy to get invested in from the very start. She comes from a long line of witches and has inherited her late grandmother’s apothecary. There are scenes throughout the story where she needs guidance, and remembering her grandmother’s words brings her comfort, which I found so heartwarming.
After arriving in Willowbark, she not only feels like a fish out of water, but also like a bit of a fraud as a witch because she can’t even get the simplest spells from her grandmother’s grimoire to work. She becomes very frustrated with herself, and I empathized with her and was rooting for her. The story quickly introduces several of the quirky townsfolk, including Maeve Muskberry, one of the only people who truly welcomes Aurora and shows her kindness, as well as more cliquey, judgmental witches who warn her to watch who she associates with.
One of the main threads of the story involves Aurora being summoned to join the town’s prestigious Nightshade Coven, where she’ll have to prove not only her magical abilities but also her willingness to follow the coven’s rigid rules. I loved how she questioned things, and there’s a conflict of interest once she begins her own amateur sleuthing into the murder she discovers. The authors do a wonderful job balancing the mystery with Aurora’s journey from self-doubt to growing confidence and self-acceptance.
I also loved so many of the secondary characters, who were just as charming as Aurora. My favorite was Floofs (aka Bertrand Firefeather The Almighty), a pompous shapeshifting cat-dragon who never stopped being entertaining. Maeve, her lively Italian Nonna witch, and their animated family also bring so much warmth and humor to every scene they appear in—and I imagine we’ll see much more of them throughout the series. Other intriguing characters like Verity Blackthorn, the Nightshade Coven messenger, the mysterious “vampire” Bethany Foxglove, and Hedwig Leclerc, who seemed almost too nice and showed up at opportune moments, all had me questioning their motives.
There’s also a subtle romantic subplot between Aurora and visiting historian Connor Griffin, who hasn’t got a clue that she’s a witch or what’s really happening in Willowbark. They have a palpable chemistry, and I imagine their relationship may evolve more in future books. With so much going on, there was never a dull moment, and I thought the authors did a great job weaving together so many different elements while still leaving room for future character growth, relationship development, and expanding the world-building.
The short chapters also help make this book an ideal binge read. There’s suspense throughout, but the final 25% really ramps up the tension as Aurora and Maeve find themselves in a race against time, forced to make increasingly risky decisions to uncover who’s really behind the murder—and other mysteries come into play at the same time. Although there are answers regarding the central murder mystery, there are even more unanswered questions surrounding the Nightshade Coven and the disturbing ritualistic killings. By the final chapter, Aurora’s character arc is pronounced, and there are some lovely found family moments that had me smiling, but it’s also clear this series is only just getting started when it comes to uncovering Willowbark’s secrets! Because of the memorable characters and all of the lingering mysteries, I’ll definitely be picking up the next book in the series!
If you enjoy cozy witchy stories, whodunnit murder mysteries, found family, and stories of self-discovery, I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your TBR!
A mysterious case, a cast of wonderfully quirky characters, and the coziest witchy atmosphere make Corpses and Cauldrons by Allie Katt & Tasha Oakwood an irresistible cozy mystery! 🖤📚🧙♀️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! There is something very special about Corpses and Cauldrons. An incredibly enjoyable magical cozy mystery! I love everything about this book. I will say that I was initially hesitant because I had never read, or finished, a paranormal cozy mystery about magic and witches, but I absolutely love this book! It is an unputdownable cozy mystery!
Corpses and Cauldrons is marvelous! I adore the characters in the book, especially Floofs. The story is incredibly well developed, building to an intense peak, leveling back out, and leaving you wanting more. I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us!
I have to say, I was drawn to this book because of Rosie A. Point (I am currently obsessed with her books), as she is the co author of Corpses and Cauldrons. I’m so excited to have found it and being able to join the ARC Team has been an incredible experience.
Overall, I highly recommend this book! Snuggle up with a warm drink, your favorite blanket, and start reading. I promise you will LOVE it!
A huge thank you to Tasha Oakwood and Allie Katt for sharing your incredible talents with us! The hard work, dedication, and love that you poured into this book can be seen through the exquisitely well written story that you have given us.
I’m so excited for this series and cannot wait for the next book to be released!
Such a lovely cozy witchy book. Magic, potions, covens are involved as well as vampires and cult. What happens when a mysterious tourist shows up un-alive in the town square? Was it the witches or the vampires? Who is behind it and why risk the centuries long pack between human witches and vampires?
Sadly I bought the set of five books so I am going to read them all although I wasn't thrilled with the first one. It's not bad but it's not great either. There's nothing new that would distinguish it from other cosy mysteries, it's not very witty and the fact that the cat/dragon was supposed to talk in a british accent was really annoying. I mean why? The main character is rather bland and there are strong hints at Harry Potter world. I mean really?
When Aurora inherited her grandmother’s apothecary shop, she returned to her hometown to run it. She’s determined to make good in her new start, and has hopes of joining a local coven. Things do not appear to be going so well when she runs across a body in a cauldron on the stage of the Harvest Festival, especially when it seems the local police are determined to brush it under to rug, and then there is the fact that the murder looks suspiciously like a vampire killing. It’s up to Rory, with her cat Floofmeister, to find out the truth.
This is a quick read, and a fun cosy paranormal mystery, featuring a witch starting over, and her rather unusual cat.
The book starts in a way that feels a little like I began reading in the middle of the story, but I checked, and couldn’t find any prequel or introductory novella mentioned. That being said, the town, the situation, and the characters are enjoyable, even if the Magic system isn’t explained well, and at times the tale seems to jump forward.
It’s relatively light hearted, and if you don’t mind a simple read and cosy setting, then you will probably enjoy this book.
Aurora Hart returns to Willowbrook after inheriting her grandmother’s apothecary shop. The town is full of witches and vampires, but Aurora never expected to find a body in a cauldron during the Halloween festival. When the police call it an accident, Aurora teams up with her witch friend and her talking cat to uncover why someone would stage the death as a vampire attack.
This was a fast-paced, cozy, witchy mystery that seems to focus on setting up the series. There was a lot of focus on the coven politics, character backstories, and why Aurora’s cat may also be a dragon. Even though I had figured out the culprit pretty early on, I enjoyed Aurora’s investigation, and the conclusion definitely leaves us with more questions that I am excited to delve into in the next book of this series. Overall, this was a fun audiobook to listen to and would be a great cozy mystery for Fall.
Thank you to Tantor Audio for the opportunity to review Corpses and Cauldrons. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow! What a great beginning to a new and very promising paranormal series! Aurora Hart inherited the apothecary shop complete with magic and Floof, a cat who may be a shifter. When a dead body is found in the cauldron, things aren't so simple for Aurora when she just wanted to keep her head down and do her calming teas. With everyone's eyes on her like the local witches, the coven and other paranormal beings, she feels the need to investigate so she is not a suspect to the murder. And so with Floofs she began her investigation. With so many twist and turns and red herrings, you are taken along on Aurora's roller coaster ride. This book hooks you right in from the beginning and you just can't put it down until the end! I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
I received a copy for an honest review. A different genre for this writer and very interesting read. Aurora has moved to Willowbark after her grandmother has passed away. She has been working as a chef but has become dissatisfied but has not been practicing her magic. She has taken over her grandmother 's apothecary and brews up potions and remedies for the townspeople. Willowbark is a haven for witches and vampires, who live among the humans. There is a pact between the witches and vampires to not feed in the town. Along with a murder there is someone who is trying to break the pact. Along with this Aurora's friend Maeve's Nonna grimoire has gone missing which has dark magic incantations. Solving the mystery of the murder, finding the book, and finding what is causing a change in the atmoshere of the town makes for a very interesting read.
This is the first book in the series. The main characters are Maeve and Rory. Rory moves to take over her Grammy's shoppe. The town doesn't really welcome her but she knows there are witches like her in this town. There are also vampires. There are is pact in the town that helps them all live together. When there is a murder in town, the cop who is neither witch or vampire, calls it an accident. The normal people can't tell that the other groups live there as well. At the time of the murder there is also a very rare witches spell book that is stolen. Now Rory is trying to find the book and who killed the man. Maeve is helping. She is a witch and Rory is still learning. It is amazing how much they learn and what they end up doing.
3.5 STAR Review ~ Corpses and Cauldrons by Allie Katt & Tasha Oakwood
Corpses and Cauldrons is a brand new start to a cozy mystery series steeped in a magical town. Aurora Hart inherits her grandmother's apothecary shop and decides she should start to learn magic. She has put magic aside for most of her life, so we are watching her struggle as she comes to learn these spells. She finds a body in town and decides to figure out who the killer is. With each chapter she follows the clues and untangles who the real killer was. This was a cute little cozy mystery, and I love that it included a talking cat familiar. The audiobook format was well done, I loved the narration. If you enjoy paranormal cozy mystery books, I suggest you give this a try!
Aurora is new to town and new to being a witch. After running away from her magic for years, she is now back. Running Grammy's apothecary in Willowbark.
After being asked to try out for the Nightshade coven, Rory stumbles on the body of a man drained of blood. Her friend Maeve is missing a grimoire. And a weird vampire keeps popping up around town.
As Rory looks into the murder, she knows something is off. That man, and others like him, were lured to the town. Why? And by whom?
Rory plans to find out. Nightshade coven or no nightshade coven.
A wonderful cozy mystery. Love the magic and love Mr. Floos!
Corpses and Cauldrons is a story about Aurora Hart a Novice Witch who inherited an Apothecary and cat shifter Floofs from her Grandmother. Aurora and Floofs went on a walk and the cat found a cauldron and a mystery. The week long Halloween Festival starts. Rory with Floofs and her friend Maeve who owns a Bookstore and her Muskberry Coven look into the puzzle. The pieces of the puzzle keep moving with some surprising results. Excellent story and start of a series which I highly recommend.
What a fun new paranormal series! Willowbark is a town in which humans, vampires and witches co-exist, thanks to a pact signed many, many years ago. During the Halloween festival, which brings in lots of tourists, a visitor ends up dead in the town square, with his body drained of blood. Oops. It falls to Rory, a witch who is new in town and recently inherited her grandmother's apothecary, to solve the mystery, with the help of her friends and her grandmother's cat and familiar.
The story itself was pretty interesting and entertaining but the spelling errors and grammatical errors were very off putting to say the least! I read a lot and enjoy it but there's nothing worse than reading sentences that are confusing because words are either repeated or missing. So you have an editor? If not, get one, and if you have one, fire them and get one who can proofread!
>an impending supernatural disaster? The town is on the verge of collapse, non magical folk may soon discover that their town is full of magical beings! >Apothecary owner finds a murdered corpse in a cauldron not far from her shop. When the cops seem to lose interest and stop paying attention to the murder, Aurora solves it and saves her town, restoring order and protecting the magic wielders. Decent book, not in my top ten though.

such a cute little palate cleanser—with just the right touch of mystery.
It’s quick and easy to fall into, especially after a long series, but it still keeps you guessing. There’s a quiet suspense woven through it that adds just enough intrigue without taking away from the cozy, witchy charm.
Light, a little mysterious, and surprisingly engaging for such a short read—perfect when you want something sweet with a hint of suspense.
I needed a change and bought this on a whim, I finished this book in one sitting. The small town mystery combined with secret societies, rules, and the wholesome witch feeling - I enjoyed this so much! The ending came a little abruptly, I didn't anticipate who it was, but then I did, but then I didn't (I was seriously making a suspect list WITH Aurora and rewriting it). Loved it, such a great cozy mystery!
I didn't figure out the secret of Grammy's reveal potion. I thought it was something else. This is such a fun read I really enjoyed the book. I like the character so much and I like Connor I hope we can figure that out. Aurora rings honest and you develop a feeling for her. I was surprised at the whodunit.
When Rory finds a body in town she starts investigating. A fun paranormal cozy mystery, with sweet characters with personality and a super cute animal side kick. The storyline will pull you right in. A fun book to read. I received a copy of this book from the author. I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.
This is a story about Aurora Hart finally accepting that she is a witch from a long line of witches when she comes home after her grandmother passes away. She has been a chef in the big city and it really wasn't as fulfilling as she wanted. Now she's back at the apothecary shop making potions just in time for the annual Halloween Festival. She goes out for a walk one evening and comes on a body shoved into a cauldron in the town square drained of blood. This is where she and her friend Marvis, another witch, start looking for answers. Good first book in the series.
Oooh! This was soooo much fun to read! I love Floofs! What a fantastic cat. The whole world was fun, the magic mechanics are unique, and the characters delightful. I love that witches and vampires live in harmony. I am intrigued about the cult though. I think it is going to be a serious problem. Loved the book!
Aurora just moved to town and finds a corpse in the middle of the town square. This sets her on trying to find the murderer. She enlists her new friend Maeve to help her figure this out.
I loved the ch as rafters of this book and the entire town sounds like a great place to visit. I really enjoyed this read.
super easy read! the best way I can describe this without spoilers really is like the show "just add magic" on Amazon, and Halloweentown with vampires. super cozy, can't wait to start number 2.
*edited to add: try not to let the misprint of Floofs name into Floods a few times.. i have to just let that go.
A fun young witch takes over for her grandmother after she passes and begins running her apothecary store. Strange happenings I. The town, humans are taken, and Kara has to figure out what is happening. Luckily she begins making friends. Suspense, mystery and intrigue
Such a cute and fun read. A "perfect" paranormal cozy mystery. I loved meeting Rory and the Muskberry family..... and the dragon (who doesn't love a British dragon?). I can't wait to see how Rory grows into her magic and maybe/ hopefully finds love.
