Firstly --- Read. The. Content. Warnings.
The Devil's Menage is dark, twisted, and even hurtful at times.
It contains topics that not everyone likes to experience, and that's okay.
Your mental health matters more than ignored content warnings. Prioritize yourself, babe, you deserve what makes you happy. ♡
Okay.
Okay, okay, okay, okay.
I'm not usually one to beg a stand-alone for more, but... I am desperate for more of these three. More of their dynamic, more of the lore. More of the world. I love that The Devil's Menage is a stand-alone, and it was a very refreshing break from all of the 3-8 book series that I have scattered around my TBR, but I am sad it's over.
But, lemme stop gushing about it, and actually give my opinion:
Our MFC- Isabella is a complex character, with real emotions, hopes, and fears, and E.K. Datura did a fantastic job of putting the feelings, her pain and love, her hurt and shame, into words. I was, at times, wondering if I was Isabella, having struggled with similar feelings of loss and despair. I cannot get over how palpable her emotions felt, how real she seemed on the page.
Our MMC #1- A jerk of monumental proportions, Jean-Phillipe was and is irksome. Truly. But, under the rough and abrasive exterior, after peeling back all of the thorns, he is really just as lost and hurt as Isabella. Like cinnamon, he was a little sweet and a little spicy, too afraid to let himself care about anything or anyone.
Our MMC #2- A chocolate-drizzled sunshine golden retriever, kinda guy... Well, once you get passed the demony-ness, Rul is so tender and caring, he had me kicking my feet, blushing hard, planning OUR wedding. But, don't let that fool ya, because just like a golden retriever, he knows how to hunt.
Spice? Like, a good spicy hot chocolate.
I'm not gonna lie, the open-door scenes were spicy(🌶🌶🌶🌶), and sometimes left me with questions, but I truly don't think the spice was the focus of those scenes.
Radical acceptance, I think, was the main focus. Of the whole work, to be sure, but definitely during the spicy scenes.
If you're looking for a sexy MMF, HEA, with depth and heart - Look no further!
Enough of the trio of cuties though, I wanna mention the world-building that E.K. has put into this little standalone.
Gods, Devils/Demons, afterlife denizens that exist despite the hostile, ever-hungering void, and oblivious humans-mortals that bumble through life, blissfully unaware.
E.K. Datura captures the struggle within the human condition, and releases it back to the world through this story - The need for something more, beyond the edge of infinity, and the desire to be themselves, to live in the here and now, despite that endless void.
I am so intrigued by the world and the lore, and as much as these few pages held, I'm still left starving for more. The Devil's Menage has very quickly solidified a place at the top of my recommendation list, and it was truly a treat to read it.
