Book Review: Conflicts of Interest (Mum’s Chain Series) by Hannah Wall

Conflicts of Interest by Hannah Wall is an emotionally charged and deeply human story about the messy, beautiful, and heartbreaking realities of motherhood, love, and truth. As the first installment in the Mum’s Chain Series, it sets the stage for a compelling exploration of how far a mother will go to protect her child — and what happens when the past refuses to stay buried.

At the heart of the story is Cassie, a single mother whose life begins to unravel when her son’s biological father, Matt, discovers the truth about the child he never knew existed. Cassie’s decision to keep her son’s parentage a secret was rooted in love and fear — a desperate attempt to shield him from pain. But now, her carefully built world is collapsing, and her heart is caught between two men: the father who represents a painful past and Theo, the man who offers compassion, stability — and happens to be Matt’s brother.

Wall’s writing shines in its emotional honesty and realism. She captures the quiet struggles of parenthood — the guilt, the longing, the self-doubt — with a tenderness that resonates deeply. Cassie is a flawed but fiercely loving protagonist, and her moral dilemmas feel achingly real. The tension between duty and desire, between doing what’s right and what feels right, gives the story both depth and suspense.

What makes Conflicts of Interest so powerful is its refusal to offer easy answers. Instead, it gives readers a nuanced portrait of modern family life, forgiveness, and the resilience of a mother’s heart. Wall’s prose is intimate yet sharp, carrying emotional weight without veering into melodrama.

𝐀 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞, 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝
𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 delivers an emotional rollercoaster that kept me hooked from the first page. Cassie’s story feels so real the guilt, the fear, the desperate need to protect her child at any cost. I could feel her pain with every decision she made. The tension between doing what’s right and what feels right is beautifully portrayed. I found myself questioning what I would’ve done in her shoes. Theo’s presence brings hope, but also heartbreak, making this a deeply human story about love’s complications. It’s not just a romance, it's a reflection of how messy and beautiful life can be.

This isn’t your typical love triangle, it's a story about responsibility, motherhood, and truth. Cassie’s struggles felt painfully authentic, and I loved how 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 didn’t shy away from showing the messy, imperfect side of love. Every page made me root for Cassie even as her choices tore my heart apart. Theo and Matt’s connection adds layers of moral conflict that few authors handle this well. The writing is heartfelt and grounded, with just the right amount of tension and tenderness. I finished it in two sittings, completely invested in Cassie’s world.

From the very first chapter, I was pulled into Cassie’s world, a world full of love, guilt, and impossible choices. 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 captures the complexity of motherhood so authentically that I often found myself whispering, “What would I do in her place?” The emotional weight of her secret, combined with the tenderness of her new relationship with Theo, made this story feel achingly real. Every page tested my empathy and reminded me that doing the “right” thing isn’t always clear. This isn’t just a story about a mother, it's about being human in all its messy beauty.

What I appreciated most about Conflicts of Interest is how it doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable parts of life. 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 writes motherhood and relationships with a raw honesty that’s rare. Cassie’s decisions may not please everyone, but you understand them and you feel them. Theo’s quiet presence brings warmth and hope, while the tension with Matt keeps your heart in knots. The book is emotional without being overdone, and the ending left me with a deep sense of compassion for every woman who’s ever had to make a hard choice out of love.

Conflicts of Interest completely took me by surprise. Cassie’s story feels like something that could happen to anyone, a mistake made out of love that turns into a lifelong burden. 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 doesn’t just write about motherhood; she writes about the quiet sacrifices women make every single day. I found myself torn between wanting Cassie to tell the truth and understanding why she stayed silent. Theo’s character adds so much heart and calm to the chaos, while Matt embodies the painful consequences of the past. This book is layered, emotional, and deeply human, a story that lingers in your chest long after you close it.

I couldn’t put this book down once I started it. 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 writes family drama like few others realistic, emotional, and without cliché. Cassie’s secret felt like a ticking clock throughout the story, and every scene built that tension beautifully. What struck me most was how much empathy the author gives to every character, even the ones who make painful choices. Theo was such a breath of fresh air, grounding Cassie when everything else was falling apart. This is a story about redemption, forgiveness, and finding love even when life feels impossible.

There’s so much truth in this book that I found myself pausing just to reflect. Cassie’s world is tangled in choices that have no simple answers, and 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 captures that moral gray area perfectly. I admired how the story doesn’t judge; it lets you feel every side of the situation. The way Cassie balances her need to protect her son with her fear of losing everything is heartbreaking. Yet through it all, there’s hope, a reminder that even after betrayal and pain, there’s still space for forgiveness and new beginnings. A truly touching read.

There’s nothing sugarcoated about 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹’𝐬 writing, and that’s what makes this book so powerful. Cassie’s struggle hit me hard because it’s so close to what many mothers face trying to protect their children while juggling their own needs and fears. The emotional tension between Cassie, Matt, and Theo is beautifully done, never dramatic for the sake of it, but heartbreakingly believable. From the first chapter, I felt Cassie’s exhaustion, that mix of love, guilt, and fear that so many mothers know too well. 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 has such a gift for writing emotionally charged scenes without ever making them feel forced. The moral tension in this story kept me thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading. Cassie’s love for her son is fierce and unconditional, and her connection with Theo feels like the light she’s been waiting for. But the web of secrets threatens everything. It’s a slow burn of emotion, heartbreak, and quiet redemption.

I loved how 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 wove together the complicated threads of love, family, and forgiveness with such tenderness. The story doesn’t take the easy way out, it makes you wrestle with your own sense of right and wrong. I absolutely loved this story. The chemistry between Cassie and Theo was so gentle and natural, the kind of connection that grows out of shared struggle rather than instant attraction. But the twist Theo being Matt’s brother creates such a heartbreaking dilemma. It’s a love story wrapped in real-life chaos, and I couldn’t stop reading.
