Milosovich has crafted a solid first novel that shows real promise. The three-way storyline between the wizard kingdom, Salostan's rulers, and the peasants caught in between creates an engaging political fantasy that kept me interested throughout.
What works really well here is the world-building. The medieval setting feels lived-in and the magic system has enough complexity to be intriguing without becoming confusing. I particularly enjoyed the lost princess storyline - watching her slowly discover her heritage while living among peasants was compelling. The political maneuvering around the forced marriage alliance also added good tension.
For a debut novel, this shows impressive ambition in juggling multiple plotlines. While there were a few moments where the pacing felt uneven and some character development could have been deeper, Milosovich clearly has a talent for creating an immersive fantasy world.
The "dark fantasy" elements are well-handled - serious without being overly grim. The peasant perspective was a nice touch that grounded the story and showed the human cost of political power struggles.
Overall, this is a very promising start from a new author. While it has the typical rough edges you'd expect from a first novel, there's enough skill and imagination here that I'm definitely interested in reading whatever Milosovich writes next. Looking forward to seeing how this author develops.

Welcome to the dark chilling medieval times.

This dark novel keeps you on edge all the time with it's storytelling. There are good character build and development throughout the story and I especially liked that the different plots of each faction of the story scaled up and intertwined with each other for every chapter. In that way the tension and excitement of the story scaled up well along the story.

The darker element as well as the complex magic system anchored this story well for an medieval world full of danger and dark mysteries waiting around the corners.

An enjoable read.

A Hidden Power surprised me in the best way. Milosovich takes the classic medieval fantasy setting and fills it with grit, politics, and just enough dark magic to keep you uneasy. I loved how the peasants’ point of view grounded the story while the wizards and rulers schemed overhead. The lost princess thread was my favorite, it gave the book real heart. For a debut, it’s ambitious and immersive, with world-building that feels alive. Not perfect, but absolutely memorable, and it left me eager to see what the author does next.

Beyond the magic and political intrigue, the novel’s greatest strength is its realistic portrayal of social dynamics. It pulls no punches in exploring the stark contrast between the lives of the peasants and the nobility. This focus on class struggle, reminiscent of medieval European history, grounds the fantastical elements in a gritty reality. It shows that while wizards plot and kings scheme, it is the common people who bear the real burden of war and dark rites. This realism makes the characters’ defiance all the more compelling and the stakes all the more dire.

Gritty, Intriguing, and Full of Depth

This is a dark fantasy with real weight—full of political intrigue, ruthless magic, and the harsh realities of medieval life. I liked how it weaves together the perspectives of nobles, wizards, and peasants, making the world feel both vast and believable. A gripping start for readers who enjoy complex, morally gray tales.

This story has a perfect mix of political scheming, personal survival, and just enough magic to keep you uneasy. I enjoyed how the plots from different factions slowly connected, creating bigger stakes with each chapter. The peasants’ point of view gave the whole book more heart, while the wizards’ plotting brought constant tension. It’s a great mix of grit and suspense.

This book pulls you into a dark medieval world with a solid magic system and twisty political plots. The way the three storylines weave together kept me hooked, tho the pacing dragged a bit in parts. I liked how it showed the peasants struggles next to the nobles scheming, made it feel real. Great debut, I’m curious for the next one.

The world feels alive and the dark medieval setting is well described — peasants, kings, sorcerers, all with a lot of detail. Sometimes the pace is slow and the dialogue a bit stiff, but overall it pulls you in if you like heavy, atmospheric fantasy.

Miloslavich's A Hidden Power: A Dark Fantasy Medieval Tale is basically a medieval fantasy. In this story you mainly get mix of political plot and magic . Writting style is mature though I don't generally like this genres but A Hidden Powe hooked me.
