Damascus & The Wildfire: Lone Star Mavericks MC, Book 2

Rate this book
Love blooms in the wreckage.

When Kenna Walsh trades her polished D.C. life for the wide Texas skies, she isn’t looking for love—just a fresh start. Three years after losing her fiancé, her heart still feels hollow. But when she’s hired to plan the Lone Star Mavericks’ fiftieth anniversary party, she’s pulled into a world built on loyalty, violence, and a code she doesn’t yet understand.

Merrick, the club’s quiet, battle-scarred sergeant-at-arms, carries his own ghosts and keeps the world at arm’s length. Hatchet, their reckless enforcer, meets the darkness with a grin and refuses to let Kenna disappear into the shadows. And for the first time in years, her heart isn’t just waking up—it’s at war with itself.

When a violent street gang threatens everything the Mavericks stand for, Kenna is drawn deeper into a brotherhood where loyalty is everything and trust is hard won, forced to navigate not just the threats outside the clubhouse, but the fractures within it.

And as danger closes in, she finds strength in places she never expected—and faces a choice that could change the course of her future forever.

Damascus & the Wildfire is a motorcycle club romance for readers who love morally gray outlaws and the heroines who bring them to their knees. This is the second book in a standalone, interconnected series set in the gritty, unforgettable world of the Lone Star Mavericks MC.

If you love a strong, independent, female main lead, then this is the book for you.

If you love the morally gray, possessive, but kind and compassionate main male lead, this book is for you!

So what I love is that the book doesn’t immediately start where book 1 left off, it sort of back tracks to explain why and how Kenna ended up in Texas with Eva.

I love how Hatchet can be joking and teasing with Kenna but care so deeply about her and how she feels.

But then how Merrick and Kenna have similar pasts makes their connection real, true, deep and the bond they have with each other is even more special.

I love a good MC book, but I am loving this series so so much!!! I cannot recommend her books more.

Ow Kenna her story was so good. Just like the first book in the series the story was fast paced and I couldn't stop reading. The perfect MC romance with a good mix between romance and action. Also the friendships in this book made my heart feel all warm and fuzzy. What a great found family.

I can't wait to read Hatchet's story he was one of my favorite character in this one🩵

I love this series. I received an ARC copy, but I preordered before that so I’ll have another digital copy and I’m going to need to buy a physical copy for my bookshelf.

Kenna is a strong and complex FMC with a great career who can absolutely stand on her own. I also love the way the love triangle played out. I spent half the book wondering who she would choose if she would even need to choose and I found myself breaking down several times in the emotional moments. This should be in a textbook of how a love triangle should play out.

Rachel Esterline is an incredible storyteller and I can’t wait to read more of this series and anything else she writes.

Another amazing installment for the Maverick’s MC.
I love how protective, yet non-toxic these men are.
They’re a breath of fresh air.

The banter? Top notch throughout this series. At one point, Reaper makes a comment referencing CSI-Outlaws, stating that he would watch it. Umm, me too. I need someone to get on that for me.

This installment to the series deals with grief and healing in addition to the brotherhood, justice, and “biker outlaw things” we already came to love in Reaper and the Lioness.

We get more of Reaper and Eva in the Damascus and Kenna story, and I love how well Esterline kept them true to character. I also love how we’re kept guessing as to which biker, or multiple, Kenna lands with.

Just trust me, you want these and all future installments on your TBR.

I was able to get this as an ARC read. Damascus & the Wildfire is a motorcycle club romance for readers who love morally gray outlaws and the heroines who bring them to their knees. This is the second book in a standalone, interconnected series set in the gritty, unforgettable world of the Lone Star Mavericks MC.

Love blooms in the wreckage.

I didn’t read the blurb, just hopped right in, and hoped this was a why choose. It’s not. But that’s ok. Kenna’s friendship with both Hatchet and Merrick help her heal and start to live again in different ways after the tragic loss of her fiancé three years prior. While working on the Lone Star Maverick’s 50th anniversary celebration Kenna is further thrust into a world and code she doesn’t yet understand. A world of violence and fierce loyalty. In the chaos of a violent street gang threatening everything the a Mavericks stand for and Kenna, Kenna is drawn further into the brotherhood where trust is hard won and loyalty is everything.

And as danger closes in, she finds strength in places she never expected—and faces a choice that
could change the course of her future forever.

Damascus and the Wildfire is the second book in the Lone Star Mavericks MC series by Rachel Esterline. If you love morally gray, fiercely protective, tough on the outside and gooey on the inside bikers, then this is meant for you!

Kenna has come to town to work with her friend, Eve, an “old lady” of one of the Mavericks. Although she doesn’t agree with some of their ideas, she is there to help Eve improve the reputation of the Lone Star Mavericks. It doesn’t take long for Kenna to find she is attracted to not one, but two of the bikers.

I love how the story progressed taking us back and forth with her feelings for the two men. I found myself rooting for one, then rooting for the other and back again! They both treated her like she was important to them and they were willing to do anything to protect her and keep her safe.

I highly recommend this series. I found both books to be excellent reads that were well written, captivating, and full of morally gray choices that make these characters so attractive!

I am looking forward to book 3, the sooner, the better! ❤️❤️❤️

Book two in the Lone Star Mavericks MC series follows Kenna, the best friend to book one's FMC Eva. Kenna is a badass in her own ways, but her biggest struggle is revealed early on in the book - she's still (not) dealing with the grief of losing her fiancé in a car accident three years prior. It's very much "not" dealing because she avoids talking about him to anyone, has blocked out his family, and just does her best to erase him from her mind however possible.

Then she meets Merrick, the scarred biker with his own tale of loss and living life after said loss - as well as Hatchet, the ladies man biker who flirts with any and all females. Both are supportive and appeal to different parts of her, and both start to view her as a way of breaking out of the roles that they've placed themselves in. Only... which one will she choose?

There's added drama in the form of some gang violence, which is both new for this book as well as tied in to the drama in book one. But what MC book isn't complete without some illegal things and gun violence thrown in, right?

Damascus & The Wildfire is another 5-star banger in the Lone Star Mavericks MC series!
I was very excited to read this book because the first book in the series, Reaper & The Lioness, sucked me in from the very beginning. Damascus & The Wildfire did not disappoint!
My only reservation about this particular story is that it has the love triangle trope, which is not something I am usually a fan of. However, the love triangle in this story was written beautifully. In my opinion, the dynamic of the love triangle was necessary so that the main characters could process and understand their own needs as they grew into their new selves.
Damascus & The Wildfire touched on grief in a refreshing way and the conflict was enough to keep the story moving, while still keeping the primary focus on the main characters and their personal growth.
I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!

I entered this series on book 2 Damascus & The Wildfire, and am in love with the characters and the setting. The story draws you in from the beginning and holds you until the end. The story of Merrick and Kenna is one of trauma healing, finding strength and the courage to love again after a tragedy. Absolutely in love with this couple and their found family. Absolutely love this indie author and her writing and can not wait to see what comes next.

I absolutely love this series! This is book 2 of the Lone Star Mavericks MC and it was a fabulous addition! If you like a good MC book with a strong independent FMC and morally grey, possessive, yet kind MMC, this book and series is for you! This is also a why choose, but it was written so well!

This book is the story of Kenna, Merrick, and Hatchet. Kenna is Eva's best friend and business partner who has recently moved to Texas and is now being introduced into the MC world. Hatchet is the pretty boy of the group, is flirty, always joking, and just an overall good time. Then we have Merrick, who is quiet and serious, but we learn that he and Kenna share some similar trauma from circumstances in their past which give them a strong connection.

This was a fast paced read with lots of action and emotions. We have great development between the characters and their relationships and such a great found family. I devoured this book in one sitting and cannot wait for the next one to come out! I can't say anymore without giving spoilers but definitely recommend adding this to your list to read. Rachel is now and auto-buy author for me!

Who will she choose?? The playboy golden retriever (I'm looking at you Hatchet) or the broody biker with a past?

I know who I was rooting for. My husband has this saying about us, "Just two f*cked up people who learned to lean on each other and found love in the end." And that is exactly what Merrick/Damascus and Kenna/Wildfire embodies. They've been through it, but they eventually (I swear eventually even if the slow burn is killer) give into the simmering heat.

Rachel really immerses the reader into the world of the Lone Star Mavericks. Between the terms and the action and everything in between, I'm expecting my cut in the mail any day now. LOL

Can't wait to see who she pairs Hatchet with in book 3... I have my suspicions.

She does it again! I tore through this book in one sitting after loving Reaper and the Lioness. It’s a quick, fast-paced read that keeps you flipping pages. The MMCs are hot as hell, masculine and rough, yet unexpectedly sweet. Rachael gives every character real depth, and the heroine is beautifully strong even after major loss. The Maverick world sucks you in and leaves you desperate for more. My only complaint? I wish every book were twice as long. I can’t wait for the next one!

First time reading this author and I jumped in without having read the first book. I liked the characters - the 3 POV’s were well balanced with clear transitions. I appreciated the relationship growth Kenna is broken hearted at the start of the story and doesn’t rush into anything. I love an FMC in her early 30’s. My only issue- I wanted more- if Ms Esterline wants to write longer stories I’d happily turn the pages. This would probably suit fans of Kristen Ashley’s Chaos Series.

Absolutely loved this book! Kenna’s story pulled me in right away, and the mix of emotion, tension, and comfort made me want to stay in the Lone Star Mavericks world just a little longer. Merrick and Hatchet are exactly the kind of protective, soft-on-the-inside characters I love. It’s fast to read, hard to put down, and left me wanting the next book in the series immediately. If you like MC romance with strong heroines finding their footing again, this is such a good one to pick up.

Another incredible read from Rachel Esterline! I had the amazing opportunity to ARC this story, and I absolutely devoured it. I couldn’t put it down. Kenna and Merrick are a perfect match; both have faced great loss, and together they find a way to make each other whole again. Their chemistry and love leap off every page. And that ending? I did not see it coming! I can’t wait to read Hatchet’s story in the third book.

Definitely OBSESSED with this series!!

The way I ran for this book after reading the first book pretty much looks like one of those cartoons! This book was just as phenomenal as the first book and now im dying to get my hands on the 3rd book!! The way this author writes and creates emotions while reading about grief and healing, family that will protect you with everything they have, and a love that covers all is nothing short of amazing!!

My favorite book series are the ones where the same characters are interactive throughout the series. This is book 2 so be sure to read Reaper and the Lioness book 1 first ( it’s also a 5⭐️)
These books are well written with strong FMC’s, all the feels, great characters and storyline.

Definitely looking forward to more books in this series!

If you’re looking for a love triangle romance then be sure to check out Merrick, Kenna and Hatchet’s story. Their story might be a slow burn, but it will keep you turning the page to find out of who Kenna chooses.
Kenna and Merrick both lost a love one in the past and Kenna finds herself being triggered to remember the past.
Even though she only chooses one the author threw me through a loop with how the other character reacted. And I absolutely loved it!
The spice was 🥵 and it was totally worth waiting until further into their story for it to hit as their relationship builds.

ARC Reader Review

Favorite Tropes:
Love Triangle
Friends to Lovers
Slow Burn
Age Gap

Second time having the privilege to arc read a Lone Star Mavericks book and hot damn!

One of my favorite things about this series is the female characters are the MCs. They're multi-faceted women who have not only fully fleshed out personalities, but their own journey within the book. Yes, there is romance and happy endings (pun intended), but they also have their own character growth not dependent on the men.

While trying to build a new life for herself and wrestling with the grief, Kenna begins to build friendships with both Hatchet and Merrick from the motorcycle club that's now taking up a good bit of her time, thanks to her friend Eva. With Hatchet she's able to have fun, things feel lighter than they have been since the death of her fiance, she feels like she might be able to "get back out there." But as she gets to know Merrick, she can't help but think: is there something here too?

I think this was the first time I genuinely wasn't sure who I was rooting for in a love triangle at the start. Her connection, chemistry and banter with both men were so well done, it was hard to pick a favorite. This book is a solid example that love triangles can work in romance. Someone told me once a good love triangle isn't about which person will she choose, but about what they represent. Both viable but different paths on her road to moving past heartbreak. The stakes aren't only high for Kenna, the added layer of pressure of both men being brothers of the same club is the cherry on top of this molotov cocktail of emotions and desire.

Similar to Reaper and The Lioness, this book executes a beautiful balancing act of plot, heat, and depth within the fun and dangerous world of a motorcycle club. One of the reasons I love this series so much is the alpha MMCs. They're rough, tough, and hot-but most importantly they respect their women and women in general. In a world where so many books employ dominance as a toxic character trait, it's nice to have a series where dominance is being used in service to the women rather than against her will or wishes.

Highly recommend this bingeable second installment of the Lone Star Mavericks MC series; a fun, addictive spicy romance with characters just as endearing as the romance between them.
