if i had a coin for every time my heart stopped while reading this i would be a millionaire now. this arc is killing me. i don't have the strength anymore.
The last volume for me to read, for now, until I find the other volumes and I don't like this because I want to keep reading this, especially after this volume I'm not over with what just happened there despite the spoilers I have already known. This manga wrecked my heart after a long time of reading books that weren't good, that didn't deserve the love to give, that also made me think that I will never read a good book again. But guess what happened, BUNGO STRAY DOGS HAPPENED.
I have a love and hate for this manga as well. I was tired while reading some chapters at the same craving for what is gonna happen, so I did binge read this because I was sure that every time a volume was starting slow I knew there is a huge plot after it. Thus, not just a plot, several plots were coming all over the place from solving the mysteries, betrayal, loss, and even death.
What I love about this manga is that unlike the other mangas I've read it is not boring and it kept me falling into the story and catching the incidents that were happening. The focus and backstories of each character are well done.
The characters and the idea that they are based on real-life authors are what impressed me the most it is really a work of literature but with some spice to it. Everyone is portrayed so good! My favorite character is Chuuya and of course, his skill as well. I mean bro he really is insane, controlling gravity and fighting as if it's his last, that is absolute insanity. Also, I love his friendship with Dazai they are funny. They are on another level.
Talking about that suicidal maniac "Dazai" is mostly the scheming mind of the story who has an ability to nullify skills is a little bit more than what he can do. This guy is mostly absent in the story but every time, the plots go back to him that's why I compare Dazai with Kaz Brekker from "Six of crows" or maybe it just gives the same vibes as him.
The villains of the story are infinite and respectfully, they do act as a villain, and they are powerful indeed, and really made a catastrophe obviously.
***SPOILER ALERT***
NOW AKUTAGAWA DIDN'T DESERVE TO DIE LIKE THAT. NO, HE ACTUALLY HAD NO RIGHT TO DIE EVEN THOUGH HE WAS SICK AND HAD A LIMITED TIME, BUT HE WAS OKAY WITH THAT JUST FOR DAZAI'S HONOR!!!!!! WHO CARES ABOUT HIS HONOR AKUTAGAWA WHO...CARES. I already knew that he is gonna die, so I don't know if that is because I'm having a bad day, but yeah it was....so...painful. He did everything to save Atjushi while they were about to kill each other after six months, he kept his promise and didn't anyone until six months, but he ended up dead unfairly and was turned into a vampire!!!! that is just not fair please, Kafka Asagiri did him do bad. I wonder what will be Dazai's reaction... if they talked about his death of course.
Bram Stoker? really? with a head only, now the next move is turning people into a vampire there is a lot to handle now.
I don't know about that, but now i can't trust Dazai, something just doesn't feel right with him being in a cell with Dostoevsky.
I think this will be the death of me. The amount of times I went “WHAT THE FUCK?!” “NO STOP PLEASE NO” is too many times to count. This Bungo Stray Dogs shit is serious. The author must enjoy watching his readers suffer because what the hell is going on?!?
I just... the flower poster was indeed real. Now I am worried for Ranpo. Good action scenes, what happened with Akutagawa broke my heart. He is one of my favorite characters and seeing him being snuffed out like that just pains me.
Is Fukuchi the next Thanos from Marvel? and is he here to fuck up my favorite characters like Thanos did in Endgame? 😭 This is too much... I just can't! I'm leaving this fandom. Bye P.S: Asagiri, I hate you!
This is it. This is the best volume of the series. Every action set piece, every plot twist. Nothing compares to what happens in this volume. When this gets animated, Bungou Stray Dogs is gonna blow up to a whole other level.
shin soukoku my most beloveds. all i will say is, ch 88 changed the trajectory of my life by making it worse... going through all the stages of grief right now please do not talk to me during this difficult time
Pre-review: I just have one burning question to ask the author/manga-ka: have they really so insisted on us fangirls writing fanfics with yaoi Ships in them? LOL
2nd read: the timing when atsushi saying he needs to fight fukuchi with someone and akutagawa came. THEIR TEAMWORK 😭😭 THE LOOK ON ATSUSHI'S FACE WHEN AKUTAGAWA REVEALED HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY TIME LEFT, and how he shows concern towards atsushi after hearing those "last" words. HURRY UP AND GO, YOU FOOL. their last visions being each other :( AKUATSU YOU WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED.
3.5 “MAY THE LAW OF THE HEAVENS BE RIGHT OR WRONG”.
“And so, as if hurtling downward, the world falls toward its doom.”
If the previous volume already played with my heartstrings, this one came in ready to finish the job and destroy them. Which is a bit hilarious, since I never thought I would feel so much for that particular character.
Amid a fun action sequence we have these small, heartfelt moments that quite touched me and, really, I'm beyond shocked at the conclusion they brought us.
Even though it was not something that I was expecting to happen, I gotta say that the rest of the events of the volume do make the whole ordeal somewhat more hopeful. If only a little bit.
That being said, all the other elements that are introduced are beyond bonkers but still, somehow, fit perfectly well with the general vibe and sequence of events that this series is best at. I like it, even if I'm still marveling at it even being something that is allowed to happen.
While I liked that particular last-minute move, the one that Kamui uses was frustrating and way too overpowered, I think, to ever be reasonably bested. It really just irks me that he can just do that.
In the end, I think this was a very cool volume, especially because of the natural way that the progression of the story has prepared us for it and it definitely is a turning point for the plot and characters.
“I’ve given it some thought. When the faltering flame of my life peters out, what should I say then? But it was grasping at straws. I had no answer. It was only a few seconds ago that I found one. There is no need for words. Only actions.”

Okay, things started really cool and intense. Then they became heartbreaking. And then it ended on a very... weird and crazy note.
It took me 2 days to collect my thoughts but now here I am, ready to construct a semi-coherent review of the Bungo Stray Dogs manga as a whole. ...so far, as it's still not finished.
First thing first, I have to say that I love all the characters - be it the Armed Detective Agency, or Port Mafia, hell, even a few of the members of The Guild managed to get my sympathy. And this is probably going to force some people to consider calling a psychiatrist on me, because for some reason, I'm even a fan of Dostoyevsky - I'd like to defend myself by saying that it has something to do with the real Russian writer, though, unfortunately, I'm just a crappy, immoral human 🤷♀️ Don't get me wrong, he deserves to be punished and brought to his senses in the worst way possible, but he's such a genially written antagonist - all those traps and twists he orchestrated - that I can't help but be in awe of him.
There's something resembling Dazai in him...
Which brings me to my second point - I do love all of them, though Dazai's got to be my favourite character. He's a suicidal idiot, an arrogant asshole and sometimes his morals are truly questionable, but at the same time, he's a genius, an evil mastermind, and a great strategist. Oh, and the fact he's insanely attractive helps too 😅 (He's prettier in anime, though...)
But probably the best part of this manga is the unforeseen badass, powerful duo of Atsushi and Akutagawa. There's just something about a "bad guy" and a good guy teaming up against a common enemy (all the while bickering like an old married couple)... It works perfectly, and I've still got chills from the fight against Goncharov, and then the latest fight against Kamui.
I enjoyed greatly the combination of interesting characters who are not only black or white, gripping storyline consisting of various mysteries, action, and the aforementioned fights; and all this is cleverly interwoven with great humour which doesn't feel forced or out of place. Maybe that's why I didn't expect these last few volumes to turn so dark all of a sudden, and I was left gaping at the screen like a doe in headlights.
Oh, and let's not forget the best thing about this manga - the fact that all the characters are named after real writers 😍 My literature student heart couldn't be happier!
Can't wait to see what more's in store for us, and how the Decay of Angels arc is going to resolve. And honestly, I need season 4 of anime because this would look sick on the big screen, with all the colours and special effects. (And yeah, I do want to see more of animated Dazai 😅😅)
Rounding off this peculiar year of 2020 with the latest volume of BSD. Chapters 84-88 Spoilers obviously
Starting with fun: "I'm not up for a double suicide with villains for this low salary. Let's make like we didn't happen to see each other, so will you hurry up and go on?" this is the most accurate phrase that can be said in that situation of a guard.
Afterwards some scattered thoughts over the chapters: Oh...dead?...no...back...I miss soukoku...akutagawa sweetie...best bois...win...loss...oh no...dead...or...VAMPIRE?
Bram Stoker being a sulky immortal that wants to sleep, yup absolutely valid.
