Gemma James is a USA Today bestselling author of sexy contemporary and dark romance. I highly recommend The Devil’s Kiss: Complete Boxed Series (The Devil’s Kiss #1-4) by Gemma James, to those that love the dark side of romance. The Series includes: Ultimatum, Enslaved, Retribution and The Devil’s Salvation. In my opinion, it is the perfect length, and it was a very satisfying reading experience because I didn’t have to wait for the next novelette or novella to be published! Gemma James’ cleverness shows through her writing style. She takes dark, difficult, taboo subject matter and turns it into a great read, though I will caution, it is not for everyone. I love the show Sons of Anarchy. My parents turned it on at the precise time Otto was biting his tongue off rather than testifying against SAMCROW. They changed the channel… while I screamed so loud my neighbors probably heard me! In other words, don’t buy this compilation and then DNF because you can’t believe how dark it is. Buy it because you can believe it!
It is the story of Gage Channing and Kayla Sutton. In the beginning, Gage finds out that Kayla has embezzled thousands of dollars from him, in order to pay for her young daughter’s life-saving treatment. He uses her theft to force her to submit to him. It is simple, submit, or go to jail. After that, nothing is simple. What James does is take us on a very gritty journey, and there is nothing typical, or stereotypical to the genre about it. It is creepy, scary at times, and really sexy. I really don’t want to tell you too much about the story, because there are great surprises and it can be fun to go in blind. What I will say is that there were many times that I stopped and re-read because I loved how James voiced something.
I should mention, I read The Devil’s Kiss: Complete Boxed Series after reading her latest book, Torrent, which is excellent. I liked it even more! It is to be followed by Rampant, which is expected out October 28th. Gemma has promised to never leave us hanging for too long! I appreciate that, because her writing just keeps getting better!
Important: Make sure you purchase The Devil’s Kiss: Complete Boxed Series NOT the Trilogy, this way you won’t miss out on the Final Epilogue.
This is a really screwed up couple. We have Gage Channing who blackmails Kayla into becoming his sex slave after he discovers she stole money from him to pay for the cancer treatments of her small daughter. The sociopath raped her, beat her bloody and kidnapped her. He wants to control every aspect of her life including who her friends can be , if she can leave the house, drive the car and she cannot talk to any male. I don't know what to say about Kayla . She feared him and then she cannot live without his brand of "love". Her constant flip flopping was giving me whiplash. Gage Channing should have been arrested and locked away for good. He promised he would never hurt her child and she would never know what goes on in their bedroom or the basement. I would not have trusted this sick SOB. Children are very observant. This book was more of what a relationship should not be and it was definitly not a romance. His constant punishment of her was abuse.

I actually love this series. It took me a bit to warm up to Gage but in the end I loved him. Ian was a good man but the two men just couldn't get beyond their pasts to make things right.
Kayla got on my nerves at times I will admit but in the end she made the right choice.
A couple issues I have: If someone kidnaps you it seems it would take more than a good fuck to make you get over it. The baby? We never did get an explanation on HOW he suddenly knew it was his.
Overall a great read with lots of Hot Sex with plenty of punishment
Gage. One word. Di friggin vine! There's nothing sexier than a mean, no holds barred, alpha, billionaire bastard who refuses to change or apologize for the man he is....won't change even for the woman he loves! It's obviously something Kayla enjoys because he's offered her freedom several times and guess what....she stayed!
This story had more twists and turns than Moroccan belly dancers! From how they came together under contract, the reappearance of Ian in her life, to the kidnapping and ultimate surrender of her heart, body, and mind. This story is told as if watching on film!
The drama, the pain, and the ups and down Gage and Kayla inflict and endure together and to each other are DELISH! I cannot wait until the next installment is released! I know it's going to be one crazy ride!
I made it all the way to the last book before I stopped reading this series. The H was irremediable. What he did to the h goes beyond anything I could overlook. He abused her so severally, she had bruises all over her body. He made her do chores, like his laundry and cleaning the bathroom with a toothbrush. I don't think he cared for the h and frankly I don't know why she was so desirable to men. I think Ian was a perfect catch and didn't see anything appealing in Gage. Gage was the bad guy in this story and he never changes. Plus, why does he keep Katherine around? Terrible H and stupid h who keeps going back to him.
Kayla and Gage....Two people looking for love, true love. Kayla the divorced mother of one who left her husband because of mental and physical abuse. Gage, her boss looking for revenge. Caught by her boss for stealing money from her job, Kayla gets to choose...Jail time or become Gage's Sex Slave. Choosing the Sex Slave route to ensure Gage will pay for her ill daughters treatment, Kayla finds out that there is much much more to the reasons behind Gage doing what he has done. This story had me reading non stop till I was complete with the entire series.
I just can not believe it, the version I have does not have the concluding episode...I found myself at that, what the F moment...panic, where's the conclusion...no you can not possibly do this to me....had to go find and buy. Sorry will be back later to conclude this review, as I just want more!!!!
Three days later, I’m still in book hangover mode. I read this as a boxed set and loved all of it. It is dark and creepy but once they open up to each other it is extremely hot. I keep processing what I just read and loving it all the more every time I analyze it further. If you have any issues with rape, whips, kidnapping or anal sex then this is not a good choice for you. But if you like a strong dominant male who isn’t afraid of being an asshole and taking what he wants instead of asking for it then grab your kindle and settle in because you won’t want to put this down!
Kayla is a strong character. Not all wimpy like the female lead in some books. She has been on her own with just her daughter for a while now since she escaped from the hands of her abusive husband. But her little girl, Eve, has become sick and living on one income doesn’t provide enough pay for the finest medical treatments there are. So Kayla does what she has to do and finds a way to steal money from her boss.
Gage…her boss. This man is pure sin. He wants Kayla and now that he knows she has been stealing from him it will make it all the easier to trap her into being his. Yes, I said trap her. This isn’t a hearts and flowers love story. He lays down an ultimatum for her to be his sex slave for six weeks and in return he will foot the bill for the medical treatments her daughter needs and not turn her over to the police. If she refuses or cancels their agreement, he calls the police. During all of this she is not to have any contact with another man.
Ian…definitely another man. He is from Kayla’s past and he wants to be part of her future. He is sunshine and rainbows compared to Gage but Kayla has no idea how deeply the two men’s history runs. Gage makes it absolutely clear that she is to stay clear of Ian. But he keeps popping up at the hospital and she can’t really stay away from the hospital while her daughter is there.
What Gage never planned on in the whole situation is to fall in love with Kayla. And Kayla definitely never thought she would fall for Gage. How could a girl want a man to do to her the things that she has allowed him to do for the sake of her daughter? And even more, how could she enjoy it and crave more when she isn’t with him? She begins to catch glimpses of what is behind the ways that Gage has shut himself off from the world and wants to know more about him but he is so closed off. He wants her to stay with him forever and finally realizes that if he is going to win her forever, he can’t do it by holding her captive any longer.
I really wish there was another book or even a short story to this. I have so many questions and thoughts for the way that their story could turn out.

Gemma James doesn't surprise me with her well written books. I loved her Condemned series. Her style of writing, the dark, sadistic and perturb ways is what kept me going and my blood pumping when I read her series. I knew that The Devil's Kiss was something that I needed to prepare myself for because I knew it was going to be dark and it was going to be disturbing. I'm not going to sugar coat this, there is some heavy BDSM involved and if you don't like to read about someone inflicting pain on another person even if it's consensual, then I don't advise you to read it, but if you really want a good story and think you can handle the BDSM aspect of the book, then you should really take a chance and read this series.
Kayla was caught stealing from Gage and in return for her not going to jail she had to submit herself to him completely. Kayla was reluctant at first but then she acquiesced to his demands because Kayla's daughter was deathly sick and really needed treatments and if she didn't comply with what Gage wanted, he would stop paying for her hospital bills and treatments and her daughter would die. So she had no choice but to do as Gage wanted of her.
Gage may be all sorts of messed up. He likes to inflict pain but he's doing this to Kayla for all the wrong reasons. For as much as he wants to hurt her, deep down inside he feels something for this girl and little by little she's imbedding herself in his heart, mind and soul.
Kayla and Gage have a whirlwind affair that's all sorts of messed up but she's starting to like what he does to her, all the pain he inflicts on her is something she's learning to love. But then a man from her past comes barreling back into her life and she's stuck with who she wants to be with. She's committed to Gage but she still harbors a love for her college flame.
AHHHH, who should Kayla pick, the good or the evil ;)
There is so many surprises in this series that will leave you going "WTF" "OMG" and REALLY! I'm not going to lie, this series had me hooked and I only put my kindle down when I had to use the restroom or eat. I even ignored my family to finish these ridiculously good books. Gage and Kayla made me gasp and made me squirm with how hot and steamy their love was between them. I just couldn't handle it at times, that's how good it was!!
I loved this series and wish I would have read them sooner. I'm glad I did now though and get myself prepared for the Devil's Wife. I'm so looking forward to read what's next with these two!

**3.5 Stars**
I have read many dark romances before but I can honestly say that I have never read a book this dark before! From the first page, this book sucked me in and I was so addicted to the story, I couldn't put it down. Gage immediately had me under his spell and like Kayla, I couldn't get enough. For some reason, the crazy, dark and evil man appealed to me on so many levels and even though I knew it was wrong, it felt so right!
When Gage confronts Kayla about her stealing money from the company, in order for her to avoid jail, she must become his slave. Gage's definition of slave was so twisted but I had to keep in mind the author's note at the beginning that this book did NOT conform to safe, sane, and consensual practices. Gage was a beast...downright brutal, demanding and was not willing to compromise on any level and I enjoyed it....until part 4.
In The Devil's Salvation, things changed a bit for me. I guess at some point, I expected Gage to change...that love would make him a better man. Instead, he got worse...the kidnapping, beatings, mistrust and his inability to talk to Kayla before reacting disturbed me. And Kayla went from trying to runaway to begging to stay, even wishing for the beatings at one point. When counseling was mentioned, I was hoping that maybe, just maybe these two could be helped. Nope, Kayla was willing to live the rest of her life with a jealous, controlling man who would fly off the handle at any given time with no reason or explanation. Maybe I would have felt better if a child wasn't involved in the mess. Sure, Eve was only 4 but what happens when she's 14 and can see and hear the abuse going on?
Overall, I did enjoy this story even though I was hoping for a different ending. This book was dark, twisted and intense and the writing was great! Will definitely read more from this author.
It's been so long since I've been hooked on a series. I'm so thankful I waited so I could read them all without waiting for the next installment. This was the very first series I read to bring in the new year and I was so captivated, I couldn't sleep until I read them all. No sleep and hours after, I was left with such a tremendous book hangover.
There was plenty of character growth with each book but they both remained true to who they were. Gage was a truly sadistic man and never once made excuses for it. He was who he was and you either accepted it or you didn't. And Kayla accepted it. Though they had a very unconventional start, she saw him for the man he was and through her strength and will was able to accept him for all his flaws and his excessive need for control. No one else would have been able to accept what she was put through. I was with Kayla every step of the way. I hated him, I loved him, I hated him and I loved him again. I don't think I could have truly gone through what Kayla did and I'm amazed by her level of strength and what they managed to ultimately build together.
Kayla and Gage are one couple I won't ever forget. This was truly a memorable series!
You've heard people compare reading certain books to watching an accident scene because they can't seem to look away. That's what I experienced with this story. Once I started I had to keep reading to see how it ended - no matter how much I disliked certain parts or characters.
Kayla had been stealing money from her workplace to pay for medical expenses for her sick daughter. Her boss Gage confronts her and blackmails her into a sexual relationship. As long as Kayla agrees to be his for six weeks, Gage will pay all medical bills and won't turn Kayla over to the police. One minute she hates him, the next she craves him.
There's also an abusive ex-husband that makes an appearance and don't forget about the seemingly perfect ex-boyfriend that shows back up in her life. Of course he has a secret I didn't see coming. Kayla has a hard time making any kind of decision and was constantly "confused." But I can't blame her because I was as well. I typically like the darker books, yet this wasn't so much dark as it was just messed up. Gage is truly an ass and even though he opens up to Kayla a little about his past, we still aren't given enough past information to justify his personality or his actions. Kayla was annoying and plain stupid. No mother, especially one with a sick child, would leave that child alone as much as she did. The scenario just was not realistic and it happened throughout the entire book.
Did I like the characters? I'm really not sure. I wavered back and forth with Gage because as bad as he was, he did truly care for Kayla. I never cared for Kayla much and sadly, my impression of her never changed. Ian was a wildcard. But as I said above, once I started reading I couldn't seem to stop until I had finished.
There haven't been many times that I have had the thought that the lead character of a book was the devil himself. But, OMG! Gage Channing is evil incarnate.
To set the stage, Kayla Sutton had been embezzling money from some accounts at her job to help her pay for her daughter Eve's medical care. Gage reveals to her that he is aware of what she's doing, confronts her, threatens her with jail time, and offers her the ultimatum to become his sex slave. Gage was so very abusive towards Kayla, in every way that someone can be abusive to another: rape, torture, humiliation, beatings. It was terrible. And cringe-worthy, because in Kayla's inner mono, she admits that she enjoys the treatment to a certain extent. What in the ever-loving fuck?? To add to the drama, we have Ian, a man from Kayla's past. He is a physician at the hospital where her daughter receives treatment, so obviously she sees him regularly. Honestly, I hoped and prayed that a romance between Kayla and Ian would save her from Gage. By the third book, I just knew that we would see a stronger Kayla who would use what she found out about Gage against him, or to at least escape, but that didn't happen at all. She fell right back into Gage's trap. Spectacularly. Even going so far as to call herself "a glutton for his sadism." Wow. And the major plot twist, for me, was disconcerting. It made these characters and their actions bother me even more.
So, yeah, very mixed feelies about this series. The writing was fine, but the characters left very much to be desired. For the most part, they were all horrible in a way that made my teeth chafe.
This is the first two books in the series. ***WARNING: If you don't like forced sex, violence, or dominance then this book isn't for you. I absolutely love these books. I have read Gemma's Condemned series and loved it. I was so excited to read another series by Gemma.
Book 1: This book is about a girl named Kayla who steals money from her boss but instead of turning her over to the police and having her arrested he has his own plans for her. He wants her to agree to be his slave for 6 weeks in return for him not turning her over to the police and paying for her daughter's medical care. Things aren't as they seem at first. Everyone has secrets and some of them are pretty big ones. What will Kayla do will she choice to help her daughter or go to jail?
Book 2: The book starts a year after the first one ends. Kayla left with her daughter and has been living in Texas. Everything was going fine or at least that's what Kayla was telling herself. Then Gage comes back and wants a second chance. He says things will be different that they will compromise. Only he isn't the only one wanting a second chance. Ian is back as well wanting a second chance for him and Kayla. Will Kayla give either one of them a second chance. Will she continue to fight her feelings for Gage? Or will she give in and try with him? Will Gage be able to handle Ian wanting a chance with Kayla?
So it a real good idea to read the warning!!! There is no dubious consent, nope this goes way past that line. But at the same time it doesn't...It's hard to explain. If you haven't read a BDSM book yet, probably not the one to break into the genre.
What a tangled web, Ms. James weaves. I have to say the twisters and turns were epic. The interwoven lives and sins are enough to make this a daytime drama, however, content not so much.
Everything that she does is for her daughter. A desperate mother will do crazy things. She felt she had no choice and now, she truly doesn't. He will get his payment. But it will be more than she bargained for.
I picked this book up a long time ago but never got to it. I'm glad I waited. I never would have been able to handle it. Since purchasing it, I have read several books that delve into BDSM- both the good and the scary. Having learned or being more jaded (as mother says), I was able to take the acts for what they were and not how they'd appear to an uninformed person. I'm not excusing Gage's behavior just more understanding.
The Devil's Claim
She made her choice but she had no idea the consequences of that decision. Lost in a whirlwind of distrust, Kayla needs to figure out how to leave or make it work. Because Lucifer himself won't be able to help her...
Where to start.... It's not a romance. Not. At. All. It will completely offend some readers. It's about a very twisted relationship. In real life, no one sane would ever stay with this guy. He's abusive. He was abused as a kid and hasn't healed, hasn't moved on, never gotten better. He's a big time sadist. He blackmails Kayla by promising to pay for her daughter's leukemia treatments if she becomes his slave. Horrible stuff, right? It's not really addressed too much...the bond between mom and daughter. Not too many glimpses of the disease and how dire her situation is. That was a good thing for me, because I don't know that a truly honest look at that part of the story would've helped me. It would be heart breaking, turned this already dark read into a horror story.
So why 4 stars? I couldn't put it down. I feel icky about it, but I wanted to see him improve, to have a revelation, apologize, be redeemed. And when he reverts back, I was still hooked. These books are so far away from my life, like a screwy crazy world faraway. I won't give away the ending, it's not all perfect. He leaks out bits of humanity. And I rooted for him, I wanted the characters to heal. But, if they were normal people, the books would not have been nearly as interesting to me.
Ok...I've read this type of book before...a woman with a big need for money or some life saving favor and the rich guy who promises to help her..but at a huge cost. I am somewhat repulsed and yet intrigued at the same time...BDSM can be a scary, dark world and in this case, the clueless Kayla has no idea what she signed up for. Gage is a monster with very twisted desires and what happens in the basement of his mansion is horrifying and erotic all rolled into one nasty package. Ian, a man from Kayla's past (and the one who got away) further complicates things when he re-enters her life and wants her back...much to the chagrin of Gage. Enter Kayla's abusive ex and the father of her child...and it is a huge recipe for destruction. This book was an extremely tough read (the abuse and mind games were cruel and degrading) and yet the feelings that came out of all the traumatic events were believable and thought provoking. Read this one if you are comfortable with non-con situations and extremely perverse sexual situations. Not for the meek or weak hearted.

** ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **
Gemma James did an amazing job with these books! The Devil's Kiss is the first book in this series and started out with a bang! I couldn't wait to get my hands on #2!! Gemma did a great job keeping me very entertained and then BAM! what a twist! You never expect what is to come and I absolutely loved that! But it didn't stop there...each book in the series has a twist that you never see coming!
Kayla is a woman that has a very sick daughter with no way to get her out of the crazy amount of debt that is piling up due to medical bills. She is up to her eyeballs with bills and is willing to do anything in order to ease the pain and help her daughter.
Gage and Ian are two main male characters in this book that you would love to be able to get your hands on. They are like the angel and devils sitting on opposite shoulders. One good, one deviously intriguing.
Throughout the books, you get to know each of them very well, and Gemma does a great job at giving you a glimpse of their personalities.
No one is immune to desperation, including Gage Channing. Freedom can always be taken or given at any time. The timing of such can never be absolute. One year is too long to wait for anything, but for the love of your life, you will do anything.
Gage finds himself on a path of bring his love back into his life. His love steering his heart toward his goal. Ian's goal is to show his love, how a woman should be loved. Kayla finds herself in a situation where someone is going to get hurt. Heartbreak is an inevitable outcome and could lead to physically. Deceit, secrets, the past and most definitely the present will have everything to do with Kayla's decisions. When the truth is obscured and the picture is finally clear, the emotional fallout is overwhelming.
Decision made, the future looks bright, until circumstances put people in situations and decisions made under duress will cause a sequence of events that will shake your whole world.
You will experience every sexy, hot, erotic, intense submission possible as well as every strike whether physical or emotional.
I could not put these books down! Gage sounds super hot but always likes control and likes to control people.
Kayla is your average woman who is single and raising a child and then Gage steps in to turn her whole world upside down!!
Gage is a very interesting character and he grows in all 4 books. He takes awhile because he doesn't like to talk about his past when he should to move forward in life.
It's a struggle for Kayla and Gage but it's a whirlwind of BDSM and it's a turn on!
I don't like when he hits her with the whips and hurts her out anger and I don't like when he dents being the father of her unborn child.
Even though Kayla surrenders to Gage completely, Ian (brother to Gage) interferes but then leaves because of Kayla asking him too.
It's a love triangle dark sexy read and I would recommend it to everyone 18+ years of age.
OH MY GOOD GOD! I received this series from the author and let me tell you ... I would have paid 10 freaking dollars for this. I seriously could not put it down. I went from going "What? no way?" to "Oh HELL no"...to "awww...." to "Get the fuck out of here!" to "THAT WAS THE GREATEST SERIES EVER!" lol I truly was engulfed in this series from start to finish. At times, I won't lie, it was hard to read and hard to digest what was happening, but overall, you get an understanding of what the story is and to me, that's why the book must be read by everyone. So...Get reading!!! Prove me wrong.
I first thought I was in dejavu because the story seemed very similar to another or two I have read. Once the chapter was complete I didn't have a chance to have that thought again, as the story took on a life of its own. I loved all the hot steamy BDSM sex! My husband benefitted from how ready I was due to my reactions to the sex scenes in this book. Even when he was being cruel my mind and body were responding. This was a great series, which read really fast although I wanted to live in the story forever.
This book was so intense. I felt bad for Kayla. She is strong and weak. Gage is what makes this book so intense. He has such a volatile temper. I really felt Kayla’s turmoil.
#2 The Devil's Claim
Another intense one involving Kayla and Gage. The story takes a heartbreaking turn towards the end. I just wanted things to work out for Kayla. How much can she really take before everything implodes around her?
**** I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of these book****
I love books with an edge of pure Darkness, that can keep me guessing on what is gonna happen and prove me wrong. These books were all that and so much more.
Love,Hate,Lust,Pleasure,Jealousy,Guilt and so much confusions that you will forget to breath. If you are looking for great written Dark, really Dark pleasurable read in every way then this book is for you. Gemma did it again.
