The Dangers We Face

Rate this book
Maeve James is a CIA agent who specializes in covert operations, sarcasm and poor decision making. She has a knack for helping people disappear, literally and figuratively. The real challenge? Keeping an acceptable distance between her and the real estate mogul she’s agreed to help; especially as her brain is practically throwing her body at him.

Hunter Thomas isn’t used to asking for help, but his sister is missing and he’s running out of options. The CIA agent glaring at him like he’s a walking red flag may be his last resort. She’s hot, hostile, and clearly toeing the line of insanity- so naturally, he can’t get enough of her.

Together, they dive into a world of organized crime, questionable alliances, family secrets and enough sexual tension to melt an iceberg. She’s trying to stay professional. He’s trying not to lose his damn mind from her antics. Both of them are doing a terrible job.

Between dead bodies, passionate foreplay, and four nosy older brothers who keep showing up uninvited, falling in love might be the worst idea they’ve had.

Or, the best.

Okay sooooo I finished the book… and while I’m very happy that this author chose me to be apart of her street team I promised myself I would be truthful. I would rather tell the truth and help her than to just be her yes man. I took EXTENSIVE notes while reading this. I did not enjoy this book. I most likely would have DNFed this halfway through if I wasn’t reading this for the author. This book tried reallllly hard to be a mafia romance BUT everything was confusing. Some parts contradicted eachother. And don’t get me started on the MMC. He was supposed to be this big man that was beaten as a kid and is emotionless but he fell first and hard from one look. And then had a confidence problem. He’s the type of guy to ask you if you would still love him if he was a worm. The FMC was mouthy which is fine if she was funny. She was just abrasive. Soooo many side characters. It came across as the author realllly wanting to set herself up to be able to write a bunch of spin off books instead of just focusing on the story. The plot was lost so many times during reading this that I’m still not 100% what it was. I thought it was killing the MMCs uncle because that was talked about the whole book then it wasn’t even on page. It was just oh we have him captured. Well he’s dead now. Book over. Now they’re married. Again thank you to Megan I hope the constructive criticism is appreciated!

* Note : I received this book after applying to be part of the author's street team. I'm giving my honest opinion with constructive criticism.

-----------------

I fell in love with Maeve from the start. Her character was very well written and her snarky, zero f***s given attitude was perfect.

Unfortunately ...

There were so many side characters that it made it hard to follow the main story line. I got lost in what was happening quite a few times. So much so that I'd just stop reading and wouldn't attempt to read anymore until the next day.

At the end with the uncle, who was portrayed as a ruthless killer not to be messed with, felt too easy and rushed. I don't want to spoil the book so I'll leave out the details.

Overall, I refused to give up on this book. I was invested in Maeve, her life in general, and her relationship with Hunter. Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed the story when I was able to follow and understand it.

Amazing. BEST. Christmas. EVER.

This book was beautifully written. We have a head strong FMC who knows exactly who she is. Comes with some trauma but keeps her job as her baby and devotes herself to it whole heartedly. We have an equally powerful MMC who comes in trying to be a knight in shining armor to find out that the FMC doesn't need saving, she needs an equal so he gives her just that.

The battles they face and how they grow together is swoon worthy.

That ending. Chefs kiss.

I loved this book so much.

I highly recommend it.
