A Toxic Redemption

Rate this book
THIS IS A RE-RELEASE!

What do you do when the person you would jump in front of a bullet for is the one pulling the trigger?

For the last three years, Khalil “Loon” Simmons has lived his life emotionless. But like the saying goes, “to heal a wound, you need to stop touching it,” and the scars of his past have resurfaced. One after another, every emotion he has vowed that he would never feel again slowly but surely returns.

Loon knows that if he continues to keep these feelings bottled up, he’ll eventually explode most dangerously. So instead of continuing to suppress these emotions, Loon faces them head-on in search of a little redemption.

"I'm saying be a 🥷's good luck charm for life, baby."

Y”all Loon put his UGK hat on in book two and said 🎶 So I typed a text to a girl I used to see, sayin' that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be. And I apologize if this message gets you down Then I CC'ed every girl that I'd see-see 'round town 🎶 only he didn’t care if these other delulu heaux’s were frowning because he told them from day one what it was! 😩😩😩

Chyyyyy after the cliffhanger in Scars of a Toxic 🥷, I didn’t know how everything was going to unfold in this redemption follow up but this book owes me absolutely nothing! Loon and Lucky gave each other a run for their money!!!! I loved them both so much and their scarred hearts were healed in the best way possible. Both hurt by the people closest to them, they were prepared live out their rest of their lives getting their 🥜’s and moving on to the next, but neither had any clue that they’d finally met their match.

Let me just tell y’all this, I was almost afraid to keep reading this book because I just knew the dope all these women were sniffing (Allison, Alicia, Persia, Mia, Dana, Sheila) was going to seep from the screen of my iPad and fk up my brain cells too. I have NEVER read about a more delusional, ditzy group of ding bats in my LIFE!! They all got what they deserved and I have zero regrets about how things played out for any of them.

KJ was by far my second favorite child I’ve ever read about in a book! He loved his Debin and cheesy noodles and as long as he had both all was right in his world. Making sure he knew Khalil was the ONLY good thing Kaine and Mia did in this book. Everyone that deserved it received their HEA and I can’t recommend these two books enough. If toxicity and chaos are your thing, then this read is for you! 🥰

All of my questions are clarified and it resumes just where we left off. I like how this book shows a new side of Loon. Things are exposed, and bonds are put to the test. There are still snakes lurking around, and the past is making an appearance as well. The friendship between Loon and Lucky changes into something more as the story goes on. Loon works on getting along with his dad. Karma came and got Kaine and Mia slow ass. I honestly wasn't a fan of Loon's Mom she kept doing dumb shit in my opinion. Through it all we got a happy ending so it was worth it.

Loving through the toxicity

3.5 stars

I liked the mcs and I appreciated their growth. For some reason though, this book slowed down for me after the halfway point.

Loon aka Khalil and Lucky aka Devyn were each other's match. I loved Devyn for Khalil because she didn't play with him at all. Her expectations were high and he could choose to meet them or get out of the way. Both were toxic cuz they were on some fk em and leave them type ish that had all the people they dealt with tight. Even upon dealing with each other they were clearly more, before Devyn realized it anyway. I loved her relationship with KJ. He was just too sweet with his cheesy noodles, chicken nuggets, and cupcakes. I felt like I missed him in the second half of the book.

There was a lot going on. Khalil and Devyn both had an absentee parent, which was explored and concluded. However, while the story of Khalil's dad fit the story it felt like Devyn's mom's was forced. It just felt like it wasn't needed to me. There was the relationships between Kahlil and his cousins and their trifling momma. It was an important bond that he leaned on throughout the book and I do think positively added to the story. There were a lot of moments with the double mint twins too that were like okay get off my page, just my opinion.

Also, I don't mind killing in a romance, but I just felt like it was overkill. Like damn are we gone kill EVERY body. I mean half of them needed to go, but it was just extra. Especially without any repercussions really, it just felt unrealistic and I was pretty much over it. Khalil was shifting as he started to take over a more legit role in life and it just wasn't explored to me. It was like one day he was moving weight and the next he was a business owner. I think a softer shift in him and less fluff in the story would have made it easier.

Overall, I liked the books. I felt the love between the mcs. Oh and it was hilarious, I cackled so much throughout and that really saved it for me.
I do feel we needed less plot and could have stayed on a few topics instead of so many including and surrounding the couple.

Khalil & Devyn 🤎

A Toxic Redemption was the perfect title for this book because Khalil definitely redeemed himself. That first book had me worried but I’m so happy that Lucky and KJ came into his life and made him want to do better. He had so many snakes around him, I couldn’t blame him for not trusting anybody.
Devyn was my girl! I loved her for Khalil. She was just as wild and didn’t take his sh*t. She had some scars too but I was so happy when she decided to let Khalil love on her. I wouldn’t mind a little update on them one day.

Even the most scarred and toxic nigga deserves redemption.

This story picks up exactly after the ending of A Scars of a Toxic Nxgga. Loon is dealing with a lot of different shocks in his life. One thing he is certain about is Lucky. Loon didn’t play with it came to Lucky. I loved Lucky for Loon she didn’t put up with his shxt and had him chasing her everywhere. I loved his friendship with Jake and Bino. I loved him reconnecting with his dad. The snakes was everywhere but each got theres. Now to dumb 1,2,3, and 4 ain’t no way you get your ass beat and a gun pulled multiple times you still delusional to think a nxgga want you. I loved KJ and his cheesy noodles. Caesar and mama finding love again with each other. I loved everyone got there happy ending.

Thank you, Nek, for not making us wait long for the conclusion of this read. Cause honey I was big mad with you for that cliffhanger! 🤬 I didn't realize how much I enjoyed messy, and toxic until I met Khalil! This fool was cutting up at every turn, and no one was immune! The way I hollered behind his crazy antics, and rude ass, got me thinking I'm a lil off too! 👀😂

Khalil, still raising hell, as the three stooges chased him around like the pied piper and ish; while he was sniffing behind Luck! 🤯 Just why??? 👀 Although Khalil is still nowhere near sane, I loved his growth and maturity as he tried to make amends and become a better person. However, folks just wouldn't let him make it, and he had to show his ass! (They ain't call him Loon for nothing) 🤯

Devyn "Luck" was that chick! ❤️ Relationship what? Commitment who? She was secure in what she wanted, and that was the D. Period! She ain't have time for a man who would dog her out anyway. No thank you! She pulled men into her web, got what she wanted, and tried to put them out of her bed and her house before the sweat dried on his forehead! 😂😂

Both Khalil and Lucky tried to run from their feelings, but game recognize game, and they matched crazies! It was inevitable that they would eventually fall. I loved KJ, and the relationship he built with Debin. 😂

I couldn't believe all the drama that was brought by Kaine and Sheila, over greed and jealousy! Sometimes family ain't family, just related! 🤷🏾‍♀️ Ceasar stepped up big time, and helped Khalil when he needed him most. Glad they were able to work things out. When did Lori become unhinged? Girllll..... Kira and Devyn both should have beat that ass with the crazy ish she was doing! 👀🤬
Ma'am this read was the thrill of a lifetime, and I didn't want it to end! Great job! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Even the most scarred and toxic nigga deserves redemption.

Nek Mills did her thing with this book!!

Jaw-dropping betrayal, unhinged men, and most of all the love that blossomed between Khalil and Lucky( 2 looney lovebirds) lmaooooo

KHALIL MR. HANDLE BUSINESS SIMMONS!!
Listen he started rocky running through the sister wives but when that man fell, he wasn’t playing any games. I love his energy and how he protected his family! The way he turned the lights off on Kaine was my type of time! That made me love this book even more!

Lucky is my girl! I love an FMC that can give a toxic 🥷🏽 a dose of their own medicine. I loved everything about her character!

My random thoughts:

I love Mama Khalise but girl, crying over Kaine smh. I can’t relate. Once a snake, always a snake even if it’s your kid. Kaine did too much to deserve any more grave.

Kaine smh I’m glad he was handled and handled properly. One thing I’m normally disappointed within books is the simple one between the eyes lights out method. But nah Loon handled big business.

Mia-you put your trust in a 🥷🏽, stupid h*e

Dana- belongs in a river but I guess

It doesn’t get any realer than Bino And Jake!!

I love a good toxic love story, and that’s exactly what I got. Thanks for letting us know in the beginning we’d laugh, cry, and cuss because Khalil took us through it. Glad to see he got the happily ever after he deserved.

Loon is back after that cliff hanger we was left with from scars of a toxic.

This journey Loon and Lucky took us on was one for the books! Once Loon knew Lucky was from home she didn’t stand a chance. Cause when he showed up outside while she was on a date with the bullhorn I said to myself girl throw in the towel.!

I love the supporting characters from Big Loon, Jake, Boon and my absolute favorite KJ.. KJ and his cheesy noodles and his love for his Debin had me smiling the whole time they came on page.

Loved the drama and pace of this book and would not be mad if Boon and dumb dumb Lori got a book 👁️ see a story brewing there. Boon was hella funny! The loyalty the cousins had for Loon his definition of loyalty. Cause his brother got the karma and everything he had coming cause we don’t play about our babies.

I need to re-evaluate myself I shouldn’t love this toxic man the way I do😂. But I do and I’m gonna stick beside him .

I’m in the minority… initially I was leaning toward 3 stars. But as the story became more ridiculous and Tubi-ish, my rating started dropping.

It was too redundant for me. How many times was the MMC going to threatened death and have the same argument with the same people?! The whole Alicia, Allison, Persia storyline became ridiculous after the first few times. It wasn’t giving what the author thought it gave.

As for Lucky/ Devyn. I liked her, but even the drama around her bio mom was too much. It was unnecessary.

Overall this was on the cusp of being good, but the added fluff took away from it.

A Good Read

I would have to categorize this story as a slow burn. Yes the two main characters were involved in a situationship but they didn’t really become a couple until half way into the book or more. It was giving pretty much cat and mouse but I’m so happy they finally got it together. Khalil wasn’t a bad guy because once he locked in he locked in. He was just moving the way he was because he was hurt.

This story was giving all types of AUDACITY, DELULU, DUMBNESS, STUPIDITY, and a host of other things. The women in this book were delusional with no self respect, no self worth, and just outright maddening. I’m still trying to figure out why they were all stuck on one man who literally told them what he wanted from the jump and only delivered that and nothing else yet again and again they just kept coming back. It wasn’t even hilarious the way they were acting especially those sister wives smh. I’m also trying to figure out how Mia the ex thought they were going to be a family after she did what she did. It was very much giving junkie vibes.

Kaine was also a piece of work because how can you hate your own flesh and blood the way he did and I don’t see where their mother thought they could just talk about it and be cool or cordial again. The man literally was messing with his brother’s ex the whole time they were together, stole all his furniture, snatched his safe with almost 2 million in it, let him pay for trips for the ex but he was tagging along so he paid for him as well, and let’s not forget the shooting and everything else he did to his brother. There’s no way you can just be cool with someone like that who’s literally gun’n for you. Kaine had no redeemable qualities. Shelia messed him up pretty bad but it can’t be all put on her either because he been felt away about his brother she just made the situation worse. I didn’t feel bad for him at all because he was doing the most when honestly he could’ve went to his family and told them how he was feeling and they could’ve dealt with it before it got out of hand. Sheila was lucky that Khalil loved her sons the way that he did because she deserved worse than what she got. I also felt like their mother dropped the ball and was a lil too prideful she should’ve been allowed Caesar to be a father to Khalil. She had every right to be in her feelings but a child was involved so she should’ve pushed her pride to the side because not only was she struggling to struggle but she messed up Khalil’s relationship with his father. I know she was hurt by Khalil doing what he did to Kaine but honestly she was going to be hurt either way because Kaine wasn’t going to stop until Khalil was out of the picture permanently.

But what I didn’t expect was for Lori to turn into a hater! All that talk she was talking about Lucky not running from love but as soon as Lori messed up in her relationship she started throwing shots at her so called bestie because she messed up smh. Like I said the women in this book were just too much. All in all it was a good book so if you’re interested in reading about delusional sister wives, betrayal, jealousy, envy, and a host of other things then definitely give it a read.

The first book was so much better. The mother and daddy getting back to together was crazy. The mother was a bitter baby mother and the father was a dead beat daddy. How you let the mother of your child keep you away from your son because she was mad because you ask for a dna test. This lady was so mad that she rather struggle than take the help this man was trying to give. If the father really wants to know his son he would had took her to court. He had his nephew playing with his son but he wasn’t in his life come on. I believe his brother when he said the mother treated the younger brother better because she kept protecting him. Lucky mother coming back was too much. I just don’t believe a woman who left 20 years will come back and think her daughter and ex will want her back. It was put in to cause drama which made it worsted. The daddy getting marry out of the blue was crazy. We don’t ever know what happen with him and the mother to make him not want to be with anyone. To make the friend seem like she was jealous of her was crazy because she was telling the truth. Why would you get pregnant by someone who have three woman chasing after him because he used to f$&k them at the same times. She should had waiting at least 3 years before having a baby. For everybody to mad at the friend because she move on from a boy who kept telling her they wasn’t together was crazy. They was boyfriend or girlfriend. If he wanted her to only be with him he would had made her his girlfriend. They are not 16 years talking about I f$&k with you heavy. To put the blame on the aunt was just crazy to me. Everybody was an adult and can make decisions themselves. How he mad his brother talking about his mother but his cousins sat there and didn’t do nothing when it came to their mother. I felt like he was all bark but no bite. I was tired of him saying he was going kill someone. You are a killer or not. These boys was wanna be thugs. They rather shut up the women than the men. I hate how he got custody of his son because he was not a great father to get full custody. It crazy how she came home to let him meet his son but then became a dead beat mother. That was just for the plot because I didn’t believe that.

A toxic redemption is the follow up from Scars of a toxic n*gga. This book has a lot of twist and turns but it’s so worth it. The way life was thrown at loon from all directions was blow after blow. You see the hatred, betrayal, greed, jealousy and entitlement. All the damn drama you need in onebook. I’m glad he gave his dad a chance and they were able to try to build. Luck’s mommy was a bitch and come out of no where. With everything that was being thrown at both loon and luck I was glad they were able face it together. The way a spiteful auntie, hating ass brother, the damn sister wives, mama who just disappears and comes back out of no where and, a friend showing their true self when they drop the bag. Baby but they got the right one khalil was not wrapped tight and had no sense at all. I was so scared for baby boy because what was really going on when he was with his momma and uncle. That raggedy girl wanted her baby back only for a bag that was not spending a dime of it on him. And where the hell did 2million go and they had a run down house and nothing too show for all they robbed loon for. To live emotionally shut off for three years loon really was just needing the right one. His momma again pissed me off because momma I know that’s your son and all but the one your fighting for don’t even come see about you or make sure your good and was foul. She kept putting one kids feelings over the others and then not being able to see that he was trying to kill your other son and would have killed your grandson. I’m glad the cousins where there for it all and really showed they were loyal after everything went down. The love that was developed through all the crazy though!!!!!!

Beautifully done 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Oh man!!! This series was absolutely amazing!!!! Khalill my chaotic romantic king 😂😂 I loved every bit of him! He wasn't toxic in book one, he was brutally honest.. It was the ed, edd, and eddy (persia, Alicia and Allison 😂) that were the toxic ones. Those birds were past delulu!! Kaine and Mia and Sheila were all scum that got what they were asking for. I will say one person I didn't like who I feel didn't get the blame she deserved was Khalise! His mama irked me!! How do you purposely let your son struggle because of your beef with his dad?! I wasn't feeling that her at all!! Ceaser stood on business when it came to his son and i loved that they formed a bond (which they could've been had if it wasn't for his damn mama) Now onto my favorite fmc ever!!! I loved Devyn from the beginning! She was feisty and didn't take any mess! The fact that she still made sure kj knew how much his funky mama "loved" him was beautiful!! I could read about Khalill and Luck all day!! This story could go on for a while, I even want to see the kids grow up!! Tens across the board!!!

Realistically…

I loved the book. But realistically. Loon’s mom will never talk to him again and nobody will change that. Kaine was her oldest and she was a single mom who raised both of her sons into adulthood. As a mom she will never be able to see her oldest have kids or anything. She will forever be hurt that her young son killed her oldest. Especially when she learns the details of Kaine’s death. Loon said he was hurt that he had to do it to his brother. No the hell he wasn’t, because he tortured him. If he didn’t want to do it, he would’ve made it quick or thought of another way to not hurt his mom like that. Not all that cutting of his body parts. Kaine was tripping hard but I don’t think he deserved all that and despite what the book says. Loon will forever be haunted because Kaine wasn’t a long lost brother. He was a brother he grew up with in the same house hold into their adult years. So that’s the only thing I will say is super unrealistic. I think if he really didn’t want to hurt his mom. He would’ve did something like set Kaine up to spend years in prison, not kill him. Their family is forever broken.

I enjoyed the HEA, but it took too long to get to the point. The story was so repetitive at times. How many times was his mom going to tell him to watch his mouth (it started to become annoying)? Also, his dad kept repeating the same things, too, about not being in his life.

The drama was over the top at times as well. The Three Musketeers went on way too long, and Devyn's mom's part was unnecessary. Also, the drama with Lori. Why was everyone shocked and not understanding that Bino wanted her to be loyal to him but didn't want to make her his girlfriend? I feel like the author was just throwing drama in and dragging out the story.

And Loon killing damn near everybody? Come now. But he never confronted his mom for letting her pride get in the way and her being okay with her children going without. For me, the ending is what made it a 3-star read. It's like she threw so much drama in that she forgot or was ready for the story to end, so some things weren't resolved.

I loved me some Luck and Loon!

This book definitely made up for Nek leaving us on a cliffhanger with Scars of a Toxic N*gga! This book was funny, sweet, and it taught lessons in love, forgiveness, and jealousy. It was a very well rounded book. Ms. Nek doesn't miss so I really wasn't surprised.

I hated that things ended with her friend Lori because she was jealous but I guess she needed to see that eventually. I'm just going to say it... Ms Khalise was wrong for how she handled the situation with Khalil's dad. She let her pride hurt everybody for years because she didn't feel like she should have to prove Khalil was Ceaser's. That was selfish and she got let off easy. I loved when Khalil and Devyn actually started accepting the love they had for each other. It was sweet and pure and exactly what each other needed.

I can't wait to see what Nek Mills releases next!!

Ahhhh!!!! A win

That's right here was a win a big win this story had everything from start to middle to end everything with perfection. It made me mad it made me sad it made me happy it made me cackle I don't even have anything bad to say about this book it was literal perfection. Miss Mills when I say you can literally write the hell out of a novel. Khalil might have been toxic but he aint never lied he was never wrong did he go about things and a way that hurt others because he was hurt yes but did he also learn from those mistakes absofreakinglutely..and lucky was the best addition to his Life she literally was heaven sent.
