Screwed: Projekt Frankenstein

Rate this book

The story in this graphic novel was good, but there was maybe a little too much gratuitous violence. Also, can we please start drawing women with realistic chest sizes? And women who wear clothes that actually fit? Just once?

This is Zenescopes's modern take on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. I have really enjoyed a lot of the publishers retelling of classic stories; this one however is a dud. I liked certain aspects of it, such as when Anne feels threatened she sees the people as monsters. This is a nice nod to how the monster feels and sees people around him in Shelly's original tale. The rest of the story is predictable with lots of scenes that seemed forced instead of flowing naturally.

The art is very gory. It does not hold back on the blood. It may seem a bit much at times, but this is supposed to be a disturbing horror story so it fits the atmosphere.

The art style is reminiscent of Rob Leifeld, but not nearly as good. Many of the faces look weird and poorly drawn. The coloring is fine; it is serviceable, but nothing to wow over.

Nice artwork, with a few twists that make the story less predictable than it initially seems. The only thing that prevents me from giving this another star is that there were a few places where some of the relationships seemed more sketched in than fleshed out. Still, a solid effort that I’d certainly recommend to fans of the genre. 3 1/2 stars.

This was a fun and creative title. I really enjoyed the story twists, and the illustrations wicked! It would be nice if Zenescope revisits this character in the future.

An interesting take on the Frankenstein story, but with a current setting and an awesome lead character. I really enjoyed the story but at times I felt the art was a little jumbled. I had a hard time figuring out how the flow of some of the pages was supposed to go and ended up missing dialogue boxes sitting on the edges or in the middle of an action sequence. Outside of that, I really enjoyed this book. I've waited a long time to read it and I wasn't disappointed. I love the ending and hope it leads to something in the future. :)

It had a decent start, but ended up being straight-lined and predictable.
Some plot twists (about detective) were telegraphed miles earlier and ending was rather lukewarm.
Art is... well, played to cater to specific type of reader, it just isn't my cuppa.

VERY violent (but hey, that's not a bad thing),pretty decent story, mad props for a main LGBT character. I'd be curious to see more...
