One chance was all she needed …

Iris Adler made a promise to herself and her father that she would ensure the man responsible for ruining their lives paid for what he had done, but she hadn’t anticipated Syn, or how quickly she would fall for the beautiful but damaged mercenary.

One chance to do the right thing …

Synek ’Syn’ Jønsson lived on the brink of insanity, drinking to excess and inflicting damage on anyone who got too close … until her. Iris was his reason to breathe again, his one, the thing he loved most in the world. And nothing would stand in the way of that.

One chance would end it all …

As a war rages between two powerful enemies, and long buried secrets are brought to the surface, loyalties are tested.
Friends become enemies.
Enemies become allies.
There’s only one way this can all end once the dust settles, and not everyone will walk away unscathed.

description~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
Lord have mercy...but I have been DYING to get my hands on this book since I finished SYN earlier this year. And let me tell you it was well worth the wait. This book felt EPIC, both in length and plot. The writing was fantastic. The pace was fairly good. This book was LONG and because of that some parts did feel a little slow moving. That said, the plot was still very engaging. There were twists and turns. Most of the book is told from Iris and Syn's POV, but there were also a few chapters from a couple of the other mercenaries. I'll admit I haven't read any of the previous Den of Mercenaries books (well apart from SYN's) and I wasn't completely lost. However, I do think reading all those previous books would have probably given me a better understanding of the dynamic between the Kingmaker and Belladonna. So I really want to go back and read all of them when I have some extra time. Last, this one was all wrapped up in a very good ending for the Den characters as well as also setting up the next series which will be about the Kingmaker and Belladonna. I cannot wait.

~HERO~
SYN...I loved him in the previous book and I still loved him in this one. That accent is panty melting indeed. I honestly don't really have a lot to say about him as his character was pretty steady and didn't change much from the previous book. He was bada$$. He was sweet. He loved Iris. I loved him.

~HEROINE~
IRIS...I really enjoyed Iris's character as well. Again she was pretty much the same as the previous book. Bada$$ as well. Wore her heart on her sleeve. She was feisty. She loved Syn and all his scars (hidden and visual).

description

~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
This book had A LOT going on plot wise and because of that, there were a TON of secondary characters that had various levels of importance. We get glimpses of all the previous Den of Mercenaries characters. Along with pretty much all the previous characters from The Wild Bunch. Of course, both the Kingmaker and Belladonna play HUGE roles in this book as well. Like I said, this book was jampacked with secondary characters.

~HEAT LEVEL~
Low. There were a few suitably sexy scenes in this one, but it was definitely on the lighter side in that department. That said, the frequency felt right for the story so I wasn't too bothered by it.

~ANGST LEVEL~
Low. I didn't find this one particularly angsty. Especially in the relationship department. Syn and Iris were pretty solid through the entirety of the book. Sure there were a couple of bumps, but nothing very major. Most of the angst comes from the game Belladonna is playing and the effect that has on all the characters.

~IN THE END~
I loved it...obviously. I love this author's writing. I love the effortless way she creates these characters and these plots. They are well developed. They are intelligent. They are super engaging. You laugh. You cry. Your heart beats faster. Your stomach knots. You are left thinking "WTF just happened?" As a reader what more can you ask for? Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two HUGE thumbs up.description

As soon as LM puts Iris up on vendors, I will write a proper review.

But I will leave you with me saying ... this is where we say goodbye to the Den, figuratively and literally. So, it's been a fun ride.

Iris and Syn got together in the previous book, but now it's time to concentrate more on her problems: namely her father's incarceration for a crime he didn't commit, and the people responsible.

The Good:
1. Syn and Iris work so well as couple. They are the balm for each other's damage without being codependent messes. That is a hard trick to pull off.

2. Belladonna and The Kingmaker are at it again. Their intrigues motivate everything that happens in this book.

3. Most everyone from the London Miller universe make brief appearances. It was a nice way to get a peak of how other couples have progressed, in a subtle way.

4. Illuminati-ish secret societies, and machinations written at its best.

5. A lot of long term plot points explored through multiple books finally come to a head in this installment.

The Bad:
1. I love Winter, the Den's resident hacker, but didn't appreciate her attitude towards Iris.

2. Though this book is titled Iris, she sometimes feels like a secondary character. The drama between The Kingmaker, and Belladonna was the main focus.

Final Thoughts:
This was such a satisfying read. There was romance, action, intrigue, and even comeuppance. Some books in this series work as standalones, but not this one. You do need to at least read the one before it Syn. (Den of Mercenaries, #6) by London Miller .

First of all I would like to make if known that London is, by far, one of the most talented authors I have ever came across. She has an ability to create characters that are not only powerful and engaging but they literally grab your soul by its balls and will not let go. The journey that the Den has brought me on as a reader has been mind-blowing. Iris is the perfect ending for this series.

Syn and Iris’s story were written beautifully. London wove this amazing love story in between a very serious plot. She gave them some breathtaking moments alone together. There is no Syn without Iris and there is no Iris without Syn. They are literally two broken halves that only become one person because of each other.

Now, I don’t even know where to begin with the Kingmaker and Belladonna. These two will be the absolute death of me. I literally have no words. They are like two nuclear bombs of pain and revenge. The Kingmaker never knew he created a perfect storm, now that he does will he be able to stop it from destroying him?

If I could give 10 stars I would without a doubt. I cannot wait to see what London gives us next!

Be prepared....be very prepared when you start this book. You will not put it down. I was holding my eyelids open with my fingers at 4 AM to finish this book. It was amazing. By far my favorite in the Den series. So many questions answered and some answers broke my heart. I now feel sorry for characters I didn't before!!

There were twists in this book that kept me on edge. The was so much action packed into this book. It was truly one of the best books I have ready in a while. Also the best part...Syn and Iris made it through and found their happy ending. I love this couple...they are so far from normal but it works!! I was really sad when I started this book because its the last of the Den series but with an ending like this one, I'm not sad. It was a great way to end the series with a bang. I cannot wait for the next books as some of the stories (Wild Bunch and others) continue.
Cheers to London for another great on in the books!!

The Den of Mercenaries series has been one of the most magnificent series I have ever read. They are all addicting and compelling and you will honestly become obsessed before their grip leaves you at the last page. Even then, the obsession is still real and you will be obsessing over the new bombs dropped. I have been obsessed with the Kingmaker since book one and could only fathom a guess as to why Karina had it out for him. But as we were given more and more breadcrumbs our obsession for each of the members of the den grew exponentially. This series is a gold mine and one that everyone should read!

Iris, the seventh and last book is really not the last book after all as the Kingmaker saga has begun. This story was magnificent and answered so many questions and yet left so many things unanswered. I look forward to reading the Kingmaker series and hopefully seeing some of the Den members again while learning the reason for the epic chess game of a decade between Uilleam "The Kingmaker" Runehart and his enemy and one person, Karina Ashworth. 5 stars! ~Ratula

Let me start off by saying Iris is bk 2, you must read Syn first (you will love it) What happens when your whole goal in life is revenge but you meet your “one”? Lines are crossed, struggles become reality, can your love overcome your revenge. That is Iris and Syn, the relationship reminds me of a prism, every time you turn it a new beautiful color comes outs. But when all you have ever known is heartbreak, darkness and revenge is their love strong enough to win. Iris brings out emotions in Syn that even he didn’t realize he possessed. Syn gives Iris hope which is a dangerous feeling for her. Their love is deep but yet sometimes love isn’t enough. Truly loving someone sometimes means walking away. As we know the Kingmaker has played with people’s lives without a care in the world, so when his world comes crashing down around him loyalty from the Den is put to the test, secrets are revealed that are so disturbing that any type of love for his character comes to a crashing halt. What happens when you teach your one and true love the art of war but at the same time you are so arrogant you have no clue you have destroyed that love. Belladonna is what happens. The chess moves these two have played all comes out in Iris. Never underestimate your opponent and if she is your ex-lover beware. Belladonna proves to us why she is the White Queen, you will learn all the reasons why she has made it her goal to destroy the Kingmaker. I cried, I felt the heartbreak, I dropped more F-bombs reading this then I have in my whole life 😊. When you finish Iris you will have felt every emotion possible. I honestly feel this is London’s best work to date.
I was lucky enough to get this Arc for an honest review. Words of wisdom-1 Click this book now, bring your tissues, because this is one heck of a ride.

FINALLY

Yes answers sort of, but at least the plot finally advanced! I was getting a tad put off about this series and almost didn’t read this one. I am glad I did, it put all my complaints to rest.

Lots of action and heartbreak. We also get to check in with all our favorite members of the Den. Syn is my favorite now! Dang is he hot as ever and he and Iris are perfect together. They sure sizzle!!

Great ending, but then there will be more on the kingmaker.

Syn and Iris

To say that I have been dying to have this book in my hands, is an understatement. After reading Syn, my whole world has been wrapped around the Den of Mercenaries series. The plot, angst, suspense drew me in from the start. And when chapter 16 led its course..... my heart and soul were shattered into pieces. My BAE made himself known, in the most EPIC kind of way. *More on that later.* I have been so curious of The Belladonna and The Kingmakers relationship..... and when we learn the true motives of the she devil.... we will never look at her the same. She is a women hell bent on revenge of what and whom she lost for loving a man full of secrets. I seriously cannot wait for their story. I know it's going to be one hell of a trilogy.

"He was a selfish bastard
through and through,
and even though he loved her
more than he loved himself,
sometimes love wasn't enough ."

Syn and Iris's story was truly mesmerizing. His accent and absolute devotion to the young girl made my heart and panties melt. Secrets are unfolding and the Den is catapulting into chaos. The Belladonna is playing a far bigger game.... then what the Mercenaries thought.

The epilogue was wrapped up beautifully. Iris and Syn both had scars, and together were inseparable. But there are so many unanswered questions that left me reeling. What is to come next for the Den.... not much is certain, other than that it will be a bloody good ride.

Blood will be spilled.
Friendships will be tested.
Trust will be broken....
No one is safe.

***************************************
Now it's time to talk about my husband.
My other half.
My soul mate.

The JACKAL

The Jackal had become
something of a myth and legend-
a nightmare

From the very start of the Mercenaries series, whenever the name Jackal was mentioned, my heart raced.... goose-bumps raised upon my flesh....my whole body trembled with glee. I knew this man would be my undoing. He is a man full of mystery, a myth, a legend.

No one knew who he was.... until now.
After the outcome of IRIS the Jackal disappeared. No one knows where he is, and his brothers will stop at nothing to bring him home. By any means necessary.

I just want to hug my man, and never let him go.
Is that too much to ask London? :(
#BringHimHomeToMe #Julia'sHubby

*I even came up with a wonderful poem.*

Received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! This book is very hard to review, because it went above and beyond my expectations. I expected a continuation of 'Syn' - book six in the 'Den of Mercenaries' series and what I got was a multi-layered cake with a surprise inside.

Iris is the central character and the author writes predominantly from her perspective, however, you also get Synek, which of course you should, he is fundamental to Iris' story and here come the sprinkles....

You also get: Calavera, the wild bunch, Kit, Red, Celt! and they are not passing through folks, they are integral to this one book, which, had the author wanted, she could have easily stretched it into at least two. Now you can maybe see why this book is so hard to review, honestly how LM managed to retain her focus with so many threads to weave is quite literally mind blowing.

As a huge fan of this series, I can honestly report that this book is beyond five stars, the content and depth is for me personally, as an avid reader, a step beyond what I expected. I really appreciated the complexities of the plot, the absolute maze/rabbit hole the writer takes you down and ultimately the finale that leaves you excited, ready to begin all over again.

I was given an ARC in exchange for honest review.

Where do I begin? I am with mixed feelings because although I am happy that the mercenaries have a normal and happy life, it is also true that I will miss them a lot. This book has been a roller coaster of emotions. I have to say that I hate Belladonna, because of her my Kingmaker and mercenaries are ending (lest keep it like that, it’s hard not to freed some spoilers), I hate her, but just in fiction. I understand her pain and loss, but she was the first to deceive Uilleam and I do not feel sorry for her, nope, we’ll no right now, I’m waiting to read the story of this two. I am very sorry for the Kingmaker, but I hope that in his trilogy he will find all the secrets behind her . Thank you very much London Miller, for the advanced copy, but above all for writing this series and giving us such special characters that have stolen our hearts. I can not choose one but if I had to, I would stay with the Runehart brothers. The closing of this series has been spectacular, very emotional and wanting to read what comes after this. I wish we could give more stars because the series and this author deserve them all!!!!.

Well worth the process of reading this very long book and getting to the end of the Den series. It’s everyone for him/herself and we get some closure for a few of the secondary characters — but there is more I want to know about. In the decade of this crazy journey of battle of wits this last book leaves us with even more mystery around Belladonna and her family and life. The best parts of the series were the CODA section. I am sad it is over but I enjoyed the ride. So bring on Kingmaker and Belladonna to see how it all begins and ends!!!

Usually I jump straight in to writing a review, otherwise I forget things that I wanted to include. For this book I've sat back and reflected but I still can't find adequate words to describe how amazing this book, nay not just this book but the whole series, is.

I'd been bouncing around from book to book (several of them arc commitments with a rapidly approaching deadline), struggling to find a story that pulled me in. Then this dropped onto my kindle and within minutes I couldn't put it down. The only reason it wasn't devoured in one sitting was that in the very early hours of the morning I literally fell asleep whilst reading this.

Fantastic writing, amazing characters, intense emotion, convoluted yet believable and astounding plots.........quite simply an awe inspiring and unmissable read. You couldn't read this as a stand alone, at the very least you need to have read Syn. However the entire series is too good to miss and I highly and massively recommend all 7 books. You need to read them. Now.

Whilst we get more of the wonderful Iris and the deadly but sexy Syn, this book also brings us much more of Belladonna. The lies, deceits and manipulation made my brain hurt....but in the best possible way. How on earth does the author (a) think up these plots and (b) keep all the facts and little Easter egg clues straight, in order to reach the final destination?

What I really admire is how London Miller has written the Kingmaker, we know Uilleam is an uncaring and manipulative "off-spring of unmarried parents" but yet, like Calavera, we still love him.

I am intrigued by who exactly Belladonna/Karina is, and whilst we know some of her story and reasoning there is still plenty left to discover. I can't wait for more on her, Uilliam and 'The Jackal'. I had worked out who The Jackal was but again this was of no benefit to finding out how their story fits together or will unfold.

Whilst this is a very sad goodbye to the Den of Mercenaries I am hoping we may see just a little more of them in the future. They are, however, gone but not forgotten and I can feel a re-read of the entire series coming on.

Wow!
♥️4.5 Stars♥️
A smile moved over my face as I read the first few lines of Iris. I knew instantly I was in for another great read from London Miller! The strong start helped bridge the gap between reading Syn. and waiting for Iris. By 10% I was back in familiar territory and all the memories from the past were all fresh in my mind. The Den of Mercenaries and The Wild Bunch are series that must be read in order, starting with Red. Mystery and suspense is at the forefront of both with the overarching plot coming to a head in Iris.
Syn is a man who finds his contentment in Iris. Mind you, his happy space is unconventional at times. It’s a good thing Iris can appreciate where he is coming from which helped me connect with him and them as a couple. He is portrayed as a man who has found his centre, learning to control his anger while maintaining the ability to strike fear into others through his presence alone.

Iris is torn between her feelings for Syn and her obsession with helping her father. Her quest to seek justice for her father is like a rollercoaster ride. It’s full of adrenaline and powered by hope but hits the depths of despair as roadblocks present themselves. I loved her strength in Syn’s book but it’s her determination bordering on desperation that comes to the forefront in this book.
The weakness in her vulnerability drives Syn’s need to protect her. It filled the void ever since he had taken a step back from the one person he had protected with his wrath. His grip on humanity hinged on Iris’ happiness. His past reputation for uncontrollable rage identified him as a feared protector. With Iris, he quickly discovered there was no boundary she wouldn’t cross, including Syn. His dilemma was to find the balance between her determination to seek justice without sacrificing her safety.
Both the suspense of this story and the overarching plot built up over the Den of Mercenaries and the Wild Bunch series are drawn together in this story delivering both powerfully. My eyes were popping out of my head with the rapid revelations as they surfaced. With strong links in the chain effortlessly being severed, it is evident the Kingmaker had met his match and was struggling to stay ahead of the game. The strategies employed by all players were complex and came with a hefty price.
My hope is that we hear more from the Mercenaries in future books. I’m sure they couldn’t possibly lead a 9-5 life which leads me to believe they have so much more to give down the track. I can’t speak highly enough of both The Den of Mercenaries and The Wild Bunch Series for readers who yearn for romantic suspense.

What I struggled with:
• The domino effect of the unsettled new environment
• Some scenarios being dealt with quicker than I thought plausible but I’m sure all will be dealt with in due course
• Sorting between facts, opinions and innuendo, but I admit it added to the mystery!

What I loved:
• The Chess Board references
• Beautiful use of language such as calming cadence
• The lengths a person would go to for the ones they loved
• The complexity of the plot being drawn together

Firsties!! It's April 1st and I want to stress that there are no April Fools pranks included in this review!!!

NOW for the review! 😊

Second... London's ability to tie together so many different story lines with an effortless beauty is astounding! I love the texture of London Miller's writing in my brain so I already loved the book before I ever read it. BUT!! Here we go🤗

I received an ARC in exchange for my HONEST review but as you can tell I loved it!( I KU and purchased a copy...just that good)

This story tied together so many of the storylines for me and brought my true understanding to everything that happened in the other six books. Iris and Syn! I love them together and you got to see how everything for them played out.

A lot more of Belladonna's backstory and the real tea ☕ is spilled on what's the what between her and the Kingmaker. I really needed that part but didn't know I was waiting for it.

I got my Wild Bunch! Red! Celt! Winter 😍 GRIMMMMM & The Jackal YASSSSS!!!

This story was everything I wanted and expected from London.

I promise you won't regret reading anything by London Miller she writes beautifully complicated characters that you grow attached to in real life. You can't wait to see what's going to happen next and you feel like you truly know these people. Excellent job London I can't wait for what's next!

Let me start with this: London Miller is awfully underrated. I mean it. She's a very talented writer and her books are very well-written (and I'm completely obsessed over every single one of them, but nevermind me).

I started reading "Red" because I liked the cover (sue me). And guess what, I wasn't disappointed! Miller's book has everything: great plot that keeps you guessing, lots of character development, badass characters, hot love story, lots of action.

However, a few details were off:

1) Dorothy and Spader are supposed to have been married since college (so since they were around 20), and Spader is in his sixties. How so? That doesn't add up.

2) "Gheenă" is a very unusual Romanian word - and I mean VERY. I didn't even know it means hell until now lol. Usually we use words like "Iad" or "Infern" (in very formal contexts). What caught my eye was that its spelling is very similar to "Ghenă" which means dumpster. So...yeah.

I love the Kingmaker's mercenaries - EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM (yeah, I've got it that bad). This book is fantastic, I'm really curious about what happens next with the Kingmaker and Belladonna - I already know what I'll be reading next. :)

The final chapter but a new beginning

I can't even put in words how amazing Iris is. It made me fall more in love with Syn. Sorry Red your still my man. In this final book of Den of Mercenaries you are in for one hell of a ride. You can feel the love and strong bond between Syn and Iris. Even though most if the book was about them London Miller was able to tie in so many of the characters and have it all make sense. I had been wondering for the last few books who Jackal was and I was super stoked I had guessed right. Karina was such a magnificent mastermind you didn't know what to expect next. This book helped explain some of the background of Karina and the Kingmaker's relationship. I'm looking forward to their story and not to mention Grimm's and Jackal's. This book was so worth waiting for. If you want to read this author's book you must begin with The Volkov Bratva series where it all began.

Yes, girl, yes! Everything has come out! Exhale!
Iris and Syn have left off right when SYN ends. Secrets are unraveling and there isn’t anybody that won’t get burned in this process.
This book had it all that we love about the Den. The intrigue, passion and action. Iris is determined to finish her mission and Syn wants to help her but his agenda gets in the way. They are still just as hot for each other but danger is lurking.
Everyone from the past books makes an appearance and you get a nice update of each couple. Does it hurt a little bit? Well, I won’t spoil anything. But it is crafted so well that you want to just turn the page instead of dwelling on the pain.
This is London’s avengers and she has painted a wonderful world for them. They may not have superpowers or do things by the books but they protect the ones they love. Fiercely!
I’m so happy how this concluded and damn, just good job girl!

Good lord. This is not at all how the final move was going to be played. This entire series blew my mind. This book in particular. Never in my wildest dreams did I see this ending. Well played.

Ever move was calculated on both the Queen and King parts. As much pain as they caused there was still a semblance of good in them. It's amazing what love can do.

I'm left with a lot of questions concerning Belladonna and Kingmaker. A lot. What started this cat and mouse game. Who was pulling her strings and why? Will they ever meet face to face again. I hope there is a follow up which includes the past, present, and future.

Amazing series. Truly on of the best I have read. It's dark, it's ugly, it's real, and it's tragic. Yet, it also showed the beauty behind the darkness and how the power of loyalty cannot be overlooked.

Mixed emotions in this book, but just Amazing!!!

When I first started reading this book, I was like its OK but nothing to capture my attention like Syn and the other books did so I was close to just giving up on reading it but I carried on reading and I'm glad I did because London Miller you do know how to twist your audience's perception, so now I'm like No No Yes Goddamn London you can't be doing this leaving me in suspense.

I know this might spoil this for some people but I'm happy for Red, Celt, Skorpian, Syn, Iris.

Now I'm wondering whats going to happen with Grimm, Karina & Uilleam, The wild bunch & The Jackel.

Its an amazing read, can't wait for the next one. Well done London Miller you did it again with an amazing boom to read!

5 stars to this book bc it had so many twists! Since I read the kingmaker series before the den I already knew about many of the “secrets” that this book didn’t quite told us.
Iris is a big piece of the book, since it’s about her trying to help her father getting out of jail, but we go back to the other characters of the Den. Which brings me to say this about the ending.
• The conversation between karina and kit, all the heartbreak right there...
• Synek finding his happy place!
• And I had the impression that Kit finding out THE reason was bad...was not expecting the last episode of CODA. Seeing Uilleam breaking is breaking me, but he’s laying on the bed of his own making, ugh my heart hurts for both karina and uilleam despite everything (she’s my girl lol, beside Luna ofc)

This book was everything! The culmination of the Den of Mercenaries series and what a way to end it!

I felt I was a piece in the chessboard that was this series. Plots unfolded, secrets revealed and god was it not worth the wait?!

As sad as I am that this is the end of this series, I can’t wait for the Kingmaker and Belladonnas story! Plus the rest of the Wild Bunch! I also have my fingers crossed we get the Jackals book too (what a book that’d be!)

Once again I cannot fault London’s storytelling, I was gripped throughout and on the edge of my seat waiting to see how everything would play out!

5 stars!

Wow!!

I'm always impressed by London's books and this was no exception. Utterly amazing. Unputdownable. Read it in a few hours because I just had to see how it would end.
I am so so so ready for the Kingmaker trilogy. The Belladonna and Kingmaker scenes as always had me gripped. I can't wait to explore them and their past And to see where they end up.

As always London, well done on an epic read. Your writing is fantastic. So well thought out and executed.
Now I need to do a re read!!
