Rate this book
When archaeologist Daniel Weston discovers an ancient map buried in the ruins of Pompeii – a map rumored to lead to treasure looted from the shores of Egypt – he doesn’t know the menacing forces that will be unleashed.

Hours later, Carabinieri Detective Angelo Mazetti is summoned to the rocky shores of Sorrento and discovers Daniel’s brutal murder. Short on leads, Mazetti teams up with Daniel’s longtime friends and fellow archaeologists, Jake and Nicole Stewart, as they unravel clues from the ancient map in hopes of solving the crime. The frantic search for answers leads to sealed crypts, sunken ruins, and a secret hidden within the heart of a storied city.

Evidence points to a wealthy Italian businessman, Marcus DiNicola, who is consumed by his own search for the treasure. DiNicola is powerful, ruthless, and motivated…but is he Daniel’s killer?

A sizzling thriller steeped in ancient archaeology, Agrippa’s Map leads the reader on a journey from the shimmering shores of Italy through Spain and France, before finally revealing the answers that lie at the end of the hunt. This book will appeal to fans of crime novels and treasure hunts alike.

M.D. Veach's Agrippa's Map launches the Detective Mazetti series with a compelling and smartly conceived premise that sets it apart from standard police procedurals. This novel successfully marries the academic intrigue of an ancient Roman mystery with the gritty, immediate stakes of a contemporary homicide investigation, offering a fresh take on the detective genre for readers who enjoy their crime with a side of history.

The novel's greatest strength is its fascinating central conceit. The discovery of a body near a fragment of a legendary, lost map created by the Roman general Agrippa provides an immediate hook. Veach cleverly uses this artifact as a MacGuffin that draws multiple parties, academics, collectors, criminals, into a dangerous conflict. The research into the map’s historical background feels integrated and purposeful, adding depth and a sense of timeless consequence to the modern-day chase without bogging down the pace.

The description for Agrippa’s Map immediately grabbed me. It has all the ingredients I love in a good thriller archaeology, a mysterious ancient map, treasure, murder, and a chase across Europe. The setup reminds me of those fast-paced adventure stories where history and danger collide.

I like that the story starts with the ruins of Pompeii and quickly escalates into something much bigger, pulling in detectives, archaeologists, and a ruthless businessman. The international settings Italy, Spain, France add a sense of atmosphere and excitement. From the blurb, it feels like there will be a nice balance of puzzle-solving, crime investigation, and high stakes action.

Definitely sounds like a page turner for fans of archaeological thrillers and crime mysteries. The fact that it’s also on Kindle Unlimited makes it even more tempting to dive right in.

If you love a good archaeological thriller with high stakes and even higher suspense, Agrippa’s Map delivers from page one. The premise pulled me in instantly—an ancient map hidden in the ashes of Pompeii, a murder on the coast of Sorrento, and a chase that unravels secrets buried for centuries.

What makes this book stand out is its perfect mix of fast-paced storytelling and deep historical intrigue. Detective Angelo Mazetti and the Stewarts are a team you can't help but root for as they follow cryptic clues across Europe. The plot twists kept me guessing, and the historical detail gave the whole story weight without ever slowing it down.

Wow , what a fantastic book. This has a lot of firsts for me. It is my first archaeological thriller, my first time reading a book on my phone and my first book by this author.
I don't do spoilers I'm afraid but I will say that I was hooked into the story from the very beginning. With some books it's easy to loose focus or interest. But not so with the story.
It has all the elements of a first class read. Historical references, the excitement of a thriller, a love interest. An action packed book to boot.

Thoroughly recommended for your reading pleasure.
