I really enjoyed this book. A disgraced 2nd son returns to England to find he is now is a Duke, discovers in his absence his brother has been gone for 2 years and the dukedom has suffered greatly. It needs money. He discovers a contract written before he was born that the duke (now him) is to marry a friend's daughter. As it turns our she has a sizeable dowry so he rushes to claim her - luckily before she takes wedding vows with another.
The developing relationship between the two makes for a compelling story. Her left at the alter fiance' discovers a reputation killing secret and sets out to ruin the lady. Like most romance novels, better editing is needed, but can be glossed over.
Very well written, full of drama, love, society, scandal, secrets, twists and turns. Lady Frances is to marry someone she doesn't want too. At the alter she keeps hoping for a miracle which comes to her as Lucien. Lucien is a Duke and has decided that he wants Frances and shows up and stops the wedding. When he does, he lets her know that there are lots of rules to follow. And she tries to break each and every one of them. The more time they spend together, the more they care about each other. Rules are made to be broken for their happily ever after. Would recommend to others. I received this story and leave this unbiased, honest review.
I enjoyed this book, from the beginning to the end. It was full of surprises, twists and turns that gave the love story plenty of mystery to keep me hurriedly turning the pages till the very end! The beginning of the story was unusually intriguing. Usually the groom is rich. I loved the way the author still made him a hero unashamed of himself feeling blessed to realize his new bride was not the usual haughty woman ruined by having too much money at her disposal. Instead the new bride was not only physically beautiful, but surprisingly humble, making the bride and groom perfect for each other.
I really loved that Lucien & Frances conversation were mostly amusing & fun to read & how they were reasonable with each other & didn't often get upset.
I appreciate that there was only really one low point & that it was fairly brief for the characters & in amount of pages.
I also loved that the majority of the book was with them spending time together & for the most part happy.
They both had things to work though & seeing them help each other was great to read!
I was also enjoyable to see the other couple in this series.
I enjoyed this story. It is well written and slightly steamy. Lucien needed money to restore his Duchy and Frances needed to marry to avoid becoming a spinster. Frances was about to marry Lord Easton but Lucien had other plans. Both Duke Lucien and Frances had secrets which they tried to keep hidden. What would happen when these secrets are revealed? Read on and enjoy.
If you're a sucker for bodice-ripping tales of passion and intrigue, buckle up for a historical romance that'll make your grandmother blush. These characters are so bold, they'd make Don Juan look like a shy schoolboy. Trust me, this book is so enthralling, you'll be turning pages faster than a gossip spreads scandal at a royal ball. Prepare to be utterly captivated – resistance is futile.
This wonderful series just keeps getting better while all the main characters in the stories are related to each other in some way the stories themselves are wonderful Lucien and Frances story shows how two people who should be rejected by society can rise above scandal and find happiness
These two are an unusual couple with an even more unusual beginning. The story is complicated but very easy to follow. It’s good to see a few of SV’s past characters and meet new ones. Loved this book and would recommend!!
I was given this book as an ARC. It was well worth the time taken to read it. So many secrets and misunderstandings, but that helped keep my interest and attention. I have read several of this author’s and I continue to read and enjoy her books.
This is a good read. If you like strong characters that do not back down you will love Lucien and Frances. Both carry secrets and each must learn to trust and accept one another.
This was an excellent story!! I really liked all of the characters as well. The plot really pulled one into it. It was a cleanly written story as well.
My main complaint was the prologue and epilogue links not working. It only allowed two paragraphs, ending in an incomplete sentence.
Such a nice story of two people with parts that are hurtful to them both. Trust must be gained and love must be found. Sally has written another excellent book.
She was about to marry for convenience when it was interrupted by a Duke, who had been accused of murder, who had a contract to force her to marry him.
I don’t read historical romance often and while this was not a five star read, this book has me asking why because I do enjoy the genre. Especially when a rake comes in and ruins a wedding that our FMC didn’t want. Definitely the historical romance I want to read. I’m going to make it a goal to read more of this genre in the future.
