I came across this book completely by coincidence, and I’m so glad I did. I ended up finishing it in one sitting. If you’re interested in psychology, especially attachment theory and the ways our childhood experiences and relationships with our parents shape who we become, I highly recommend giving this book a try. There are countless books on these topics, but not all of them are approachable. What I appreciated most about this one was how accessible it felt. It explains complex psychological concepts in a clear, engaging way without overwhelming the reader with excessive jargon or technical terminology. Even though I’ve read quite a few books on attachment and childhood development, I still came away with new insights. That’s not something I can say very often. I’m honestly surprised this book doesn’t have more reviews because it deserves far more attention. I really hope it finds the audience it’s written for, because I think many people could learn something valuable from it.

I went to a talk with the author as part of the Sydney Writers festival.
I’ve always had an interest in psychology.
This book gives you an easy access to self reflection and a balanced view of others around you. It supports understanding over knowledge and focuses on areas of our lives such as work, family, family of origin allowing us to explore different domains to bring it together. I think the reflective exercises would be particularly useful to anyone wanting to get more out of reading this book.
