Spy Sisters

Spy Sisters Versus Snake Ten-Fangs

Rate this book
A new middle-grade spy action comedy/adventure series kicks off with three sisters who use martial arts to save the world.

When the world is in danger, when royal families need protection, when supervillains steal from orphans and little old ladies, the Spy Sisters are trained to save the day!

Meet the spies. Their real names are classified:

Sister #1, code name, Kay-7. She is thirteen, and it’s her job to protect her younger sisters—and the whole world. That’s a lot of pressure for an eighth grader who has a big history test on Wednesday.

Sister #2, code name, Scarlett (or Scar for short). She’s ten and hates jumping out of airplanes. Villains fear her left-handed yellow boomerang.

Sister #3, code name, Mia. She’s in first grade. Her favorite color is purple. She’s a language expert, even though she’s only six.

When their parents are kidnapped, the Spy Sisters accept a super-secret mission from Dr. Nobody to track down and defeat the notorious Snake Ten-Fangs. With the help of their family’s bionic dog, Scarlett’s flying carpet, and Kay-7’s smartphone named Brad, the Spy Sisters must travel from India to Alaska to the Galapagos Islands.

Can they save their parents—and the world? It’s what the Spy Sisters do.

This was a fun middle-grade read! I think this is the perfect read aloud for 1st grade through 5th grade. It has humor. It has adventure. And it has spies and families. This was such a fun story and plot to read. I actually read over half the book in just one sitting. If you are looking for a cute and fun spy story with strong FMC's, then I definitely recommend this one. I also love how this can be relatable for a wide age range since the three main characters age ranged from 6 to teenager.

I received a physical copy of this book from the publisher, which does not affect my review.

This was such a fun, nostalgic ride! Think Powerpuff Girls meets Mission: Impossible. We’ve got three sisters, a history test stressed teen, a boomerang-throwing ten-year-old, and a six-year-old linguistics expert on a global mission to save their parents. It’s pure, unadulterated action-comedy gold, featuring a bionic dog and a flying carpet.

SPY SISTERS
VERSUS SNAKE TEN-FANGS
(Spy Sisters, Book 1)
@alan.markham.author

••I give 4 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~Saving the world is what they do…

-SPY SISTERS VERSUS SNAKE TEN-FANGS, is a quick paced awesome story filled wonderfully with adventure, humor, quirkiness, imaginative twists and turns, surprises, and with such heart. It has awesome themes of bravery, staying in the struggle with hard things, safety, family, and forgiveness…all while trying to save the world on a weekly basis for 3 sisters ranging from 6, 10, to 13. This debut story is the start of a series for the sisters that held my children’s attention ranging from 5 to almost 12. We enjoyed how all three sisters had their own spy gadgets and were trained in martial arts by their beloved Sensei, which my oldest (daughter) especially related to as she too takes martial arts and has beloved Sendai at her dojo, where she takes karate. We enjoyed the short quick paced chapters. The story moves along at a fast pace, and how these sisters watched out for each other and took their work seriously despite fear, struggles, or great obstacles in their midst. Seeing them give their best and take courage to heart was awesome and inspiring. There was also much intrigue with many things being “classified,” or on a needs to know basis which, made us excited for more to come ahead in this fun series. This story also did a great job of showing that cars can be overcome, the sisterhood supporting and encouraging, and learning to accept help from others along the way. Added bonus to this story were some original fun illustrations spread throughout. This “fresh take on the spy genre for kids,” makes this story worth the read!📚🙌🏻

•Content: spy family, martial arts, mild danger/peril, gas bombs, explosions, stealing, a villain, secrets, misunderstandings, revenge, death of loved ones (off page; in past, mentioned on page), kidnapping, fear of heights/going fast, no language!

-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

“He feels empty, so he’s looking for fulfillment. But he’s looking in the wrong places. He doesn’t understand that true fulfillment comes through selfless acts, not from selfish actions. It comes from serving others.”

“We’re heroes,” Kay interrupted, putting her arm around Scarlett’s shoulder. “Real heroes are afraid a lot of the time, but they do the job anyway. That’s who we are...”

This middle grade novel, Spy Sisters versus Snake Ten-fang, is adorable. The chapters are short and full of action. There are many twists that kept me on my toes. The girls are typical sisters that love each other but also fight.

So much randomness! I know my kids will love it.

I have the paperback but I found the audiobook for free on Hoopla and played it for my girls (6 yrs and 8 yrs). They enjoyed listening for a little bit and my 8-year-old asked to read my paperback when we got home.

I really enjoyed the spy sisters overcoming their fears, searching for their family members that were taken, and all their fun spy gear.

Cute story where girls, even little ones, get to kick booty and save the adults.

TW/CW: Adoption, loss of loved ones, orphans.

A fun and silly first book in a new spy series for middle schoolers. The Spy Sisters are three sisters who are constantly sent to save the world by a mysterious Dr. Nobody. Kay-7 is 13 and she tries to keep her younger sisters safe. Scarlett (Scar) is 10, has a yellow boomerang and is almost a black belt. Mia is six and a language expert. They all have gadgets and are trained in martial arts by their beloved Sensei. The villain in this book is Snake Ten-Fangs who steal a special carpet from a maharaja.

The story moves along at a fast pace. The sisters watch out for each other and take their work seriously. Although it is a lot of pressure. I had images in my mind of Despicable Me, Minions or Kim Possible as I read. There is a lot of tongue in cheek humor and isn’t meant to be taken too seriously. There are some black and white drawing illustrations every few chapters that add to the story. I think middle school readers will enjoy this fun adventure. Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the eARC and I am leaving an honest review.

This delightful story will cause laughter, rapid page turning, heroic dreams, and a longing for adventure. Young readers will also get a strong sense of family, bravery, and forgiveness. All while saving the world- weekly. Not bad for 6, 10, and 13 yr old sisters.

Trained in marshal arts, having many gadgets at their disposal, and a grasp of language that will very sneakily teach readers words to impress parents and siblings, (Defenestrated, anyone?) and a sense of responsibility to thwart the dastardly Snake Ten-Fangs. Especially since he has kidnapped their parents. With a flying carpet on their side, they might just succeed.

“Real heroes are afraid, but we do it anyway.”

This debut story is the start of a series for the sisters. Written by a fellow librarian and teacher, I wish him all the best in what I am certain to be a long career writing.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher for me review.

What a fun Middle Grade action adventure! I loved the sisterhood and the spy setting.
The girls were so fun! I loved how real they felt. Yes, they were spies, but they still felt like young girls, and like sisters. They disagreed, made emotional choices, and still always had each others’ backs. Kay and Scarlett both had to learn somethings across the story and I loved their progression! Mia was just a hilarious sweetheart!
It was such a fun story too! I loved the adventure and action. It was full of humor and wacky shenanigans. It was cool to see the world that was created with the spy agency and the girls’ families. I appreciated how the adults in series were supportive and tried to protect the girls, while still encouraging them. I also appreciated the themes of choosing bravery, supporting one another and doing the right thing. I think this is a exciting and humorous middle grade story that is even suitable for early readers with some support!
I received an ARC.

This was a delightful read and my kids enjoyed listening to me read it out loud. It was clever, fun , quirky and full of adventure that is perfect for young readers. My 4th grade students were delighted to have it read aloud to them also. A few of them went home and had their families buy the book so they could read it again. The characters are fun, quirky and real enough that kids could relate. I loved that the chapters were shorter, so my littlest child was still engaged. And oh they were engaged and giggling when they got the humor.

This is the perfect books for kids who like spies, but aren't ready for longer, in depth books. The sisters are fun, have really awesome spy gear and learn how to work together to save their parents. It's a wonderful start to a new series and I can't wait for it to continue!

The Spy sisters have a mission: protect the royal Indian family and save the world before Ten-Fangs carries out his evil plot. Each of the girls have specialties they can use to help fight villains and they must work together to defeat a very powerful opponent and free from his grip those they love.

Things to Love:
pet potato
bionic dog
humor
spy gadgetry
chocolates with vitamin X
brave girls
martial arts moves

“Real heroes are afraid, but we do it anyway.”

I loved that the girls worked together and they really cared for each other; there was no name calling or talking down to each other. :) I look forward to reading more in the series.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley, but I was not obligated to write a positive review.

Spy Sisters vs. Snake Ten Fangs is a fun spy adventure that’s playful, creative, and packed with imaginative twists. It kept me entertained from beginning to end. The villain, Snake Ten Fangs, is a bad guy kids will love to talk about after they finish the book.

The Spy Sisters are easy to root for. Their teamwork, courage, and clever problem-solving make them fun to read about. They play, argue, and rely on each other just like real sisters, which makes them easily relatable. The action moves fast, the humor is quick-witted, and there’s always something unexpected coming up.

It’s the kind of book that will make you smile, laugh, and want to tell a friend, “You’ve got to read this one”… but you can’t, because it’s classified.

This Middle Grade Read is incredibly fun. So silly and light, while filled with action. These sisters save the world on the daily and Snake Ten Fang proves difficult to thwart.

Quick chapters, quick decisions, and quick thinking made this a fast read. I can totally see middle graders enjoying this story and feel ready to jump in anywhere and stop the bad guys.

I enjoyed the little things that made each sister unique. Their favorite colors, their gadgets, and their own struggles. The problem solving was age level and fun.

Family Ties and Understanding can strengthen a person and I loved how they worked together.

Get ready for submarines, magic carpets, private islands, and a sensei that is an excellent teacher.

My son and I had such a great time reading this book! It made us laugh, it made us curious as to what would come next, and it made us hope for more Spy Sisters adventures.

It was so fun that each of the sisters were so very different from each other. They all have their own strengths, fears, weaknesses and abilities. Just like each child.

I really loved the plot of this one. The sisters must figure out where Snake Ten-Fangs has gone before he destroys North America. These girls are smart. I loved their thought process and how they were able to figure out just where he went.

This is such a fun middle grade read!

The story explores themes like overcoming fears, supporting others, and learning to accept help from those around us. It reminded me of a blend of Kim Possible, the Minions, and Aladdin, with a charming Japanese flair.

I appreciate that the author wrote this with his family in mind, which adds a heartfelt touch. This was the author's first book, and I’m excited to see how his works develop.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. Thank you, Shadow Mountain Publishing!

This was an adventure! It is a little bit quirky, with a full cast of awesome characters. I enjoyed their unique spy gadgets (including the potato) as well as the Hurricane Hands and other fun karate moves the Spy Sisters use along the way. This book is definitely giving off Despicable Me vibes, so if that's your jam, you would definitely enjoy this one.

Many thanks to the publisher for the early copy; all thoughts are my own.

This was not really my cup of tea but I am not the intended audience. I imagine that our tweens and young teens would find it interesting. I really enjoyed the fact that the heroes in the book were female and they defeated an adult man to complete a successful mission. Besides that it was rather predictable. An ok read for its intended audience.

An over-the-top adventure that resembles Saturday morning cartoons in middle grade novel form. I found it a bit too silly and unrealistic but kids who like movies like "The Incredibles" will love it.

What a rollercoaster ride of a story, with a cast of characters you can't help but fall in love with. Watching the sisters grow throughout the story as they balance problems anybody will find relatable with secret missions, and deadly villains. Much how the story balances lighthearted antics with deeper themes.
The illustrations are so fun and there were even some twists I didn't see coming. Great for kids who love fast paced action.
