The Deep Freeze: A C.T. Ferguson Crime Novel

Rate this book
A request to work a cold case lands C.T. Ferguson in the fires of a deadly investigation.

Exiled to the basement for past misdeeds, Baltimore Police Captain Leon Sharpe runs a ragtag squad looking into old crimes. When a murder from 15 years ago crosses his desk, he asks PI C.T. Ferguson for help.

C.T. dives in but soon discovers he’s swimming in deep water.

Connections form to other murders. A pattern emerges, and everyone realizes they’re dealing with a serial killer.

And the suspect is willing to spill fresh blood to keep the investigators at bay.

Will C.T. uncover a killer before he himself joins the list of victims?

The Deep Freeze is the electric 19th novel in the ongoing C.T. Ferguson crime fiction series. The books can be enjoyed in whatever order you find them.

Loved it! An interesting and very exciting story line with some unexpected twists and surprises making it difficult to put this book down before getting to the end. I look forward to more adventures to C.T. Fowler Investigations.

Deep Freeze

By Tom Fowler

This book is a C T Ferguson story, and unlike many of Tom's previous books, this story really involves TJ as a main character, whereas before she was a side character. TJ gets her own case in this one while taking a close look at herself and really becoming friends with Lexi Tyler and opens up further to her. Tom does a beautiful job of developing CT's story that he takes on while leaving TJ to work out her own at her request, yet never really leaving her alone. I particularly liked the development of all the characters, bringing them together like a family, and having CT become more mature, feeling responsible for all of them. This is an excellent story every way you look at it. I received this book free from Tom Fowler, and  I leave this honest review voluntarily.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Fowler's latest C.T. Ferguson novel. C.T. is a great character and I'm sure he is fun to write. Usually he works on his own, but in this book, C.T. is asked to help the police's "cold case squad". Not really an official CC squad, but one that's regulated to the basement of the police station and staffed with retired police officers who aren't getting paid for their work.

As C.T. investigates, he is led to the unlikeliest of places with a very unlikely suspect - and the cold case heats up quickly. The ending is a wild one, with C.T. coming close to losing his life.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Fast-moving cold case
Looking for clues years after it happened, after good police work had already been through it, can be a tough thing to do. When you have the right working crew, who know when to work and when to take a break, that is the best part! C.T. and his 'Deep Freeze' group have the right combination of going through things, and when to dig deeper. They also happen to go through ALOT of coffee!
This was a great story that is good for most.
Thank you, Tom Fowler, for another great story.
I received a complimentary arc copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I found this latest book interesting. C T was hired to reexamine a cold case.
He soon found this 15 year old cold case was done by a serial killer.
The killer is waiting to kill again to kept C T from finding him.
I recommend this book as other books this author's has written.

In my opinion, this author is right up there with Lee child, John Sanford and Michael Connelly. His characters are quirky but believable. The action is always moving, making a new offering from him an anticipated event.
I lose sleep when a new book comes out.

Tom Fowler is an author with two good series. The C.T. Ferguson series fits into one of my all-time favorite genres, and I like that the PI is a privileged person instead of a Mickey Spillane stereotype. These books are well thought out in plot and character development along with realistic dialogues, realistic fight scenes and a smart mouthed character full of himself with plenty of good humor. Infrequent use of vulgar language. See my complete reviews with GoodReads and BookBub.

THE C.T. FERGUSON MYSTERIES
THE DEEP FREEZE, #19 - I love this series. Even missing the last two stories, C.T.'s newest adventure was like slipping into a comfortable pair of shoes. Interesting story lines and characters, humor, action, smart mouthed remarks, and an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. 4*

THE RELUCTANT DETECTIVE, #1 – C.T. also has an interesting past that plays a large part in this introduction. Add in his parents, his older police Detective cousin and a good supporting cast, which all make it difficult to put the book down. 4*

THE UNKNOWN DEVIL, #2 -
Conduct Unbecoming, #15 - Intriguing and interesting with good characters, well written story lines and plenty of investigations happening. Good dialog between Gonzalez and Ferguson, almost like they're friendly. Good humor. T.J. has her voice. Source: The author. 5*

THE WORKERS OF INIQUITY, #3 - C. T. has been a PI for almost a year at this point. The solutions and the way problems are handled are entertaining; some have a good revenge edge and others bring rewards. The crime topics are more than loan sharking. 4*

ALREADY GUILTY, #4 – I could not put this book down, a real page-turner. Bits reminded me of Lithgow and Denzel’s revenge movie, but the author does well making this his work. 5*

DAUGHTERS AND SONS, #5 - Even though I have not read all these books, I have not missed anything due to the author's talent for storytelling. The past is not thrown at the reader to figure out or reminisce over. There is enough detail to make the reader a fly on the wall without the Hollywood dramatics or the usual stupidity. 5*

A MARCH FROM INNOCENCE, #6 - This story picks up a couple of weeks after Daughters ended. Clean but the topic is disgusting. Young children. Older men. Add some interesting ways that C. T. handles things makes this a difficult book to put down. 5*

INSIDE CUT, #7 - Oh, dear. My first C. T. book that did not work for me. It felt incomplete, like not everything was there, no enthusiasm on Mr. Fowler's end. I did like a past method coming to play; never think if something (or someone) is outdated that it cannot work in the present or future. While this story is not on par with the others in this series, it is still an OK read. 3*

THE NEXT GIRL, #8 - Moves at a fast pace through the frustrations, the investigations and the pain of his newest case. Well thought out and vividly told, but easy to figure out the who and the why, but it is still an interesting, intriguing read. 5*

IN THE BLOOD, #9 - Could not put this book down with its interesting and intriguing storylines, good characters and good dialogues. It too easy to get immersed in Fowler's eady to read books with the good pace and realistic action and talented writing style. It helps that there is infrequent profanity and the sex is private. After all, it is the interesting investigations and crime solving that is the reason to read this genre. 5*

DEAD CAT BOUNCE, #11 - I missed a few books in this series but it was easy to get back in the groove. While I think some of the previous books were better, which may be due to the missing books gap, this story is still a good read. Interesting. TJ is a good addition to the mix. 4*

DON'T SAY HER NAME, #12 - This is one of my favorite characters and series. Fortunately, Fowler does not rehash the past in great detail in his books, he keeps the present book interesting. There is action, romance and humor. The romance is clean without the stupid arguments and ridiculous mind sets that other authors add for drama, but mischievous and adult dialog between the two lovers. 5*

NIGHT COMES DOWN, #13 - Interesting. I like that this book is about hacking and revenge. Well written with interesting story lines, a good blending of old and new, along with some intense bits made this another hard to put down read. 5*

CONCRETE ANGELS, #14 - Pretty interesting with a bigger role in the narration and duties for TJ. The good story lines kept me involved in the book and some of the characters are doozies. 5*

CONDUCT UNBECOMING, #15 - Intriguing and interesting with good characters, well written story lines and plenty of investigations happening. Good dialog between Gonzalez and Ferguson, almost like they're friendly. Good humor. T.J. has her voice. Source: The author. 5*

BLEEDING INTO WINTER, #16 - Too easy to figure out but still an interesting story. Well written story lines, fun characters, and plenty of snow and humor. 4*

Novellas:
HONG KONG DANGEROUS, prequel - An interesting introduction to C.T. and his cousin Rick. The events lay the path to C. T. becoming PI. C.T. is in HK hacking and being a nuisance to the Chinese government and finds himself in prison. Rick is a sergeant in the Bmore police force working hard to become a detective. 4*

RED CITY BLUES, #3.5 - This is an interesting read perfect for quick getaway. The timeline is a year after he starts his PI business. A basic well told story. 4*
The C.T. Ferguson Series end.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with CT and TJ discussing a case which TJ wants and CT isn't in favor. TJ convinces CT to let her handle it since she is looking to become an investigator. CT gives in and later asks her if she wants any help and she says no. CT later is hired by Leon Sharpe to assist in resolving "Cold Cases". After arriving, CT gets interested in a case 15 years old where a PHD candidate was killed and it was believed to be a mugging. After he started looking into it he felt it was a murder. The more CT looked into it, he discovered that there were other cases which bore the same similarity. With this information, the remaining volunteers working cold cases joined in solving this one.

Follow CT as he chases the new information as well as discover what events he now faced as a result of this investigation. Follow TJ and learn of what eventually let her close her missing persons investigation and what impact it had in deciding what she wanted to do.

The ending will answer all of the remaining questions and explain why the PHD candidate and others were murdered.

This is another great story in this series and well worth the read, don't miss out!

Different story this time. When a low income mother comes to the office asking for help to find her son, CT Ferguson allows TJ to look for the boy as her own case without his help. At the same time disgraced Captain Leon Sharpe, who is now running the cold case team, hires CT to help his team solve a 15-year old cold case of way of an educator dying at the University of MD. CT is usually pretty snarky with the police but this time he’s actually on the payroll working closely with Sharpe. Once again we get to read a well put together mystery with lots of connected murders, lots of suspects, and tons of clues. The question is: what is going on when the team uncovers more murders/accidents that appear to be connected, which then all start to come together with TJ’s case of the missing boy. As usual, the interaction between the characters is fantastic, this time with the inclusion of Lexi, TJ’s part time intern. Gloria is wife, and the University of MD football team. Once you start these stories it’s hard to put them down until the end. Really looking forward to the next in this series. Keep up the great writing!!!

This is another of Tom’s fast paced read that grabs from the very first page!
When C.T is asked by a friend at Baltimore Police, Leon Sharpe who has been temporarily exiled for past misdeeds to the basement assigned to “Cold Cases” Leon needs C.T skills as a PI and as not working he is not currently working any specific cases agrees.
The cold case is a murder dating back 15 years, but soon turns into a many more and they then face hunting a serial killer. C.T is convinced he knows who but can’t quite get enough evidence to put him away. But Leon wants to keep options open. But C.T does things his own way and keeps poking the bear with severe consequence for his wife, team and himself. Absolute tension builds right to the final conclusion with the killer doing the upmost to protect and preserve himself from capture. Brilliant ending and another epic storyline! Although book 19 this and all the other books can be read individually. But be warned once you have read one you will want to read more!

I absolutely love the CT Ferguson series and have also come to love the characters. So much so that it's very much like being back with old friends every time there's a new release. This does give the author a problem given there is greater expectation with each new book. Well, I can honestly say he has nailed it yet again. CT and co. are hired by nonother than police Captain Leon Sharpe to help with a cold case. I'll not give away the plot but if you've ever read a CT Ferguson novel before you'll know the drill, bad guys, some fights, mystery, tension and a fair does of snark from our favourite private detective. What I will say is there is a fair amount of development of CT's assistant TJ and his intern Lexi which widens the appeal of the overall series. Great work Mr Fowler, keep 'em coming!

Murderously good!

C.T. is back with a curious cold case. He and his associates, T.J. & Lexi, are helping Captain Sharpe with a cold case of a 15 year old 'accidental' death of a college professor. This case opens a can of worms, which develops into many other unfortunate deaths, spanning those 15 years.

This case also has repercussions for the missing male that T.J. is investigating.

Some great detective work from the, mainly volunteer, cold case crew and C.T. being his usual 'dog with a bone', when he finds a lead, vehemently following it.

The fallout of his investigation, crosses over to his family and PI team, with some scare tactics, stalking and violent confrontations.

Great story, great action and a book I couldn't stop turning the pages on.
I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

C. T. Ferguson and his sarcastic wit has a case he wasn't looking for. A Cold Case. Leon Sharpe, head of the Cold Case Unit (T. D. F..... The Deep Freeze), asked C. T. to be the Investigate P. I. part of the volunteer team. C. T. accepts the role and leaves T. J. with her own cold case investigative case. C.T. doesn't believe there's a happy ending to be had but training, is training. Friday's intern helps them both when and where she can.
C.T. and T.J. come a problems quite differently but both can handle disruption and physical challenges very similarly.
Cold Cases should not go unsolved. Let's see how these three work out out their issues with Leon overseeing the developments.

C.T. and T.J. have some time on their hands after a busy year, so when Captain Sharpe of the Baltimore PD calls C.T. about working for him to solve a 15 year old cold case, he agrees. T.J., who’s been wanting to get into the investigation aspect of the business, asks C.T. if she can take a low paying missing person case that just came in. C.T. doesn’t hold out much hope for solving it as the 16 year old teen has been missing for a few weeks, but he agrees to let T.J. see what she can do.
Sharpe and C.T. haven’t had a great relationship in the past, so having them work together was an interesting twist. At the same time, T.J., who has become a confident and competent assistant, is wracked with self doubt as her investigation stalls.
The plot builds as C.T. realizes they may be looking at a serial killer, and T.J.’s case may have a possible connection. Another great read from Tom Fowler!

Another great story from Tom Fowler. I strongly recommend you read every book in both of this author's series: C.T. Ferguson Crime Novels and The John Tyler Action Thrillers. Both have great characters and lots of well described action. If you like action thrillers you'll love both these series. You can read them in any order, but I recommend you read them in order because they often make references to previous cases from earlier books. And I recommend you read ALL of them. They're that good.

Full disclosure. I got an Advanced Reader Copy of this book free in exchange for posting an honest review. My honest review is that his books are great.

Allow two days (or an extremely long one) for this fast-paced, action-packed, contemporary, cold case serial murder procedural in the Baltimore, Maryland region involving drugs, families, midlife, mild romance, catching a killer, being better than the police, nonstarters, merry men and women, Davenport Fellows, TDF, off the clock, BYO coffee, a cast-off Keurig, arm candy, usury, yoga, gentle chuckles, lacrosse, business ethics, skepticism, a pattern, a politician and a letch, feminism, academic ethics, plagiarism, circumstances, thumb prints, security, aggressive self-defense, worry, a tail, a chase, and a rope.

CT is requested by Baltimore police captain Leon Sharpe to work on cold cases because he has been exiled from the police department for a while from a past case that had gone wrong. CT finds the cold case team great to work with & fits in nicely. As they find a cold case to investigate it seems the case leads to other murders to be solved. The cold case team & CT’s team help uncover old secrets that put them all in danger. Can they solve the case before they become part of the cold case? You won’t want to put this one down after you start

C.T is asked by his friend, disgraced police captain Leon Sharpe, to help with a cold case. Together with some other voluntaries, they come upon some irregularities surrounding a local university. At the same time T.J. is trying her first solo case. After a while it appears that both cases are connected and they come upon a suspect. Another very entertaining story in the C.T Ferguson universe with all the ingredients we readers liked so far.

C.T. Ferguson Mystery Novels Book 19 comes from a different approached than we have become accustomed too. C.T. is working with the Cold Case Unit (CCU) on a 15 yr old Murder case. T.J. has been given her own investigative case to work on. It is a thrilling story where during C.T. investigation with the CCU they discover that there may be a serial killer and T.J.'s case might be involved. A thoroughly enjoyable addition to the series.

C.T. Ferguson never disappoints. This time he is helping Leon Sharpe in a cold case file that turns into something bigger than intended. TJ takes on her own case of a missing boy and learns the good and bad of investigations. There are lots of twists in this story and every page gets better than the last.

C.T. Ferguson saves the day again. This time he works for the Deep Freeze, solving a cold case. The characters and the scenes are well described. Will C.T. be able to prove who the murder is? There is a fair amount of action in the story. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.

The CT Ferguson series is both enjoyable and believable. The Deep Freeze is another great addition to the series, presenting interlinked stories which add a great twist. This time out he’s working with the Baltimore PD on a cold case, but the more you look the bigger the problem , and this one comes home. A real page turner which I really enjoyed. Highly recommend, give it a go.

The Deep Freeze by Tom Fowler is another great book in this series. Although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. C. T. Ferguson is a character that will stay with you and keep you reading well into the night. This book is slightly different from the other scenarios of the previous books in that instead of active client cases, this one is working on a cold case - so cold that it is considered "frozen". I enjoy reading how the plot unfolds and works it way into trying to solve it along with the characters.

The plot and characters are well developed and I enjoy reading the way they interact with each other. I received an advance copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. I enjoy this series and this author's books and I look forward to reading more from him. Enjoy.

Another well rounded C.T. Ferguson crime thriller.

A missing child and a cold case murder investigation has the PI Office busy.

Lives threatened in the process of the investigation keeps the action happening.

A recommended reading.
