She was supposed to birth life. Instead, she became death.
Born of two forbidden bloodlines, Elva was never meant to exist. Half Siren and half Selkie, she failed the one task her kind demanded—bear a child before her twenty-fourth birthday. Now banished and branded useless, she carries a secret even darker than her shame. Her cycle doesn’t just bring longing. It unleashes a monster.
Feared by villages and hunted by those who know what she is, Elva travels the wilds of Torian with her twin brother and his husband, searching for a place that will take them in. But no one wants a Siren who can control men and tear through minds when her needs go unmet.
When the prince's brother offers her everything she's ever wanted in exchange for a single task, Elva must trust a man immune to her song, or give in to the beast inside her.
A romantasy where the siren saves the boy, puts the nobles in their place, and still has time to keep her brother in check.

I'm completely OBSESSED with the MMC and FMC! The banter, chemistry, and tension are electric! Alice Pfeifer Hanov storytelling has woven a captivating tale around these two, and the siren mythology adds incredible depth and keeps you intrigued. Let's talk about The spice - perfection – I'm HOOKED! And that cliffhanger? I'm dying for Book 2, which drops in April 2026 😍
This book was everything I wanted and more. I'm not your typical mermaids and unicorns girl but she gave us a fierce FMC who did not need a man to save her! In fact she had to do all the saving herself.
There were certainly slow points but it didn't feel like it was losing my interest as there was lots of character building and backstory.
That ending though!?!? I'm signing up for the ARC for book 2 now. I can not wait.
Thank you so much Alice Hanov for providing me with an EARC of Heart Of A Siren; I completely devoured this book!
I honestly don't know what I loved more; the chemistry, the banter, the plot it all meshed together so well! I was a big fan that this book was dual POV! This book has spice 🥵 but as always read your TW before starting!
The FMC Elva is half siren, half selkie! She is fierce, and a total badass! I absolutely loved her character. She definitely has her walls up but rightfully so! The MMC Njall is a prince and you can't help but immediately be drawn in.
I will definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out!
When Alice first reached out to me about applying for an ARC (bc the insta algo wasn’t pushing her ARC announcement post, and like the angel she is she knew some of us dark romance girlies wouldn’t want to miss this one) she pitched the book as a super dark romance where and I quote “you kinda have to be darker to read this one. It’s not all dark but my siren bites off a guys 🍆” and naturally I was SOLD.
She did NOT disappoint!! This was a super unique take on a fantasy femme fatale story where the prince is the damsel in distress. I meannnnn I can’t help but love a strong independent girlie saving her man who isn’t actually her man but a nuisance she comes to tolerate.
Elva is a Siren ousted by her own kind, hunting down the men that created her into a monster. With her twin and his husband by her side she truly just wants to find peace and happiness through the cathartic extermination of those who harmed her while also finding a place to plant roots and truly settle down despite it all. Of course things never truly go to plan and while this story is action packed and filled with strength and resilience, it also shares deep insight into the different forms of vulnerability that come from trauma and the walls that we may build to protect ourselves.
Overall a good smutty and strong read that provided a surprising amount of emotional and intellectual depth within its storyline :)
I will say I rate books purely on vibes most of the time and I enjoyed the shit out of this book! It was a good time, the banter, the characters and the building relationships were interconnected well and even the ending just made me look forward to reading the next one! Thank you Alice for writing such fun, dynamic characters and storylines!!
One of my 2025 reading goals was to dive into more non-paranormal romantasy. Normally, the world-building fries my brain (I read mostly at night when my brain is basically Swiss cheese), and any book with a map automatically intimidates me. But when I had the chance to read this ARC, I jumped on it. I’ve been following Alice on IG for a while and love her content and this book sounded too good to pass up.
I’m so glad I did, because while there’s plenty of world-building (and, yes, a map), it was surprisingly easy to follow. The writing pulled me right in. I could see the world, smell the sea air, feel the chill. I didn’t just read about this world; I knew it.
Elva is half siren, half selkie, and I just know she’s absolutely stunning. She’s her own white knight: fierce, sharp-tongued, and not afraid to do the saving instead of being saved. She’s got enough trauma to fuel a thousand ships, and it only makes her stronger.
Njall, also half selkie (and a prince!), shows that royalty isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. He’s working through his own scars, and while he’s not exactly helpless, he does end up needing saving and of course, it’s Elva who steps up. Their connection deepens beautifully from there.
The banter is top-tier. The chemistry is electric. And the family dynamic between Elva, her brother, and her brother-in-law adds a lovely touch of warmth.
And that cliffhanger! Is it April yet?! It’s not the most brutal one I’ve ever read, but the last line hit me like a punch to the gut. I have no idea how Elva is going to pull off the impossible task she’s been given to save the man she loves, but I’ll be first in line to find out.
Thank you, Alice, for the ARC and for making my leap into romantasy both painless and completely addictive.
Heart of the Siren is a dual POV between Elva, a half Siren, half selkie warrior, and Njall, the eldest prince of Tyndorf. It follows Elva and her brothers as they travel, trying to find a place to call their own, where they will be accepted. This leads them to Tyndorf, where the kings five children are all part human, part some other species.
After being in the city only a day, they are arrested and taken to the king. At the same time, the city is being invaded by two of the neighboring armies, and two of the kings children, including Njall, are kidnapped. The king throws all of his resources into finding his daughter, leaving Njall for dead. But Elva and her brothers are hired by another of the princes to rescue Njall and bring him back home.
Through their travels to rescue Njall, they find the enemy armies aren't the only things lurking in the woods. Both Elva and Njall struggle to trust each other; Elva, due to her past, and Njall, due to everything he's ever been told about sirens. But they must move past their worries in order to survive.
I enjoyed this book. Their mission allows a lot of character growth between some very stubborn people. The relationship between Elva and Njall is grown over quite a few trials and tribulations, and its sweet how much they care for each other. There are spicy scenes throughout and, trigger warning, SA both on and off page.
Tell me why I went into this thinking “cute siren romance” and ended up emotionally invested in a woman who said actually I will not be your broodmare prophecy puppet, I will be feared, worshipped, and a little unhinged.
Elva is peak “I was supposed to birth life but became the knife instead.” Half siren, half selkie, whole problem for the men of Torian. She gets banished for not producing a baby on demand (the audacity), and now she’s roaming the wilds with her twin brother and his husband, being hunted, misunderstood, and one hormonal mood swing away from becoming a literal monster. Honestly? Same.
Enter the prince’s brother who is immune to her siren song, which is deeply rude but also deeply attractive. The tension? Chefs kiss. He doesn't fall for the spell — he falls for her. And I kicked my feet like a Victorian child with a secret diary.
Found family? Elite. Villages terrified of her? As they should be. Girlboss energy? Nuclear. This is top tier romantasy with bite, claws, and a little saltwater.
This is the first book I have read by Alice and it definitely won’t be the last, In this beautiful tale we follow Elva a half siren half selkie She and her brother and brothers husband are outcast from there land due to reproduction issues, they have a beautiful relationship and the love for each other is unmatched. This story is about there travels and where the heart takes them. It is a very interesting story with every kind of fantasy species you can think of. One warning however we end on a cliffhanger but don’t fret Book 2 is set to release in April 2026
Heart of the Siren by Alice Hanov completely swept me away. From page one, I was hooked by Elva’s fierce spirit, her dangerous magic, and the dark secret she carries. Half Siren, half Selkie, and never meant to exist, she’s been cast out for failing her only “purpose.” But instead of disappearing quietly, she becomes something powerful and unforgettable.
This book has everything I love in a romantasy: badass FMC, found family vibes, forbidden magic, and that delicious “touch her and die” energy from the MMC (Nijall) that makes every scene electric. The dual POV added so much depth and emotion. I felt every hurt, every choice, every spark of hope.
Elva is strong, broken, and beautifully written. Her journey though terrifying is empowering. The romance is spicy, intense, and perfectly matched with the fantasy world building and darker elements.
If you love a powerful heroine, protective hero, unique magic, and a story that blends spice, magic, danger, and emotion, Heart of the Siren is for you. Oh, and the final twist sets up the next book perfectly, and now I need the sequel ASAP!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
ok wait... that cliffhanger NOOOOOOOO. I have to wait til April to get answers?! I hope it's worth the wait haha! I enjoyed the banter and I loved all the major characters. Kind of wished that I discovered the glossary before I Finished the read so I could've pronounced their names better in my head lol.
Thank you for the arc copy! I enjoyed getting to know Elva, Njall, Sindri and Leifur.
I got the wonderful opportunity to read an ARC of this book and it is definitely one of my top reads of 2025. I talked about it so much that many of my friends can’t wait to read it. Just a warning there could be spoilers so read on with discretion.
I started this while on vacation, I was taking a small break and started while sitting by the water. Then when I went to a music festival later that night, I may have brought my kindle and was reading while waiting for the performers to come on. It was that good!
I was hooked from the very beginning!!
Elva was the best FMC. The chemistry between her and Njall, then with Baldr was perfect. I can honestly say never in my life did I what sex with a satyr could be like. Now I’m intrigued.
I absolutely loved Leifur and Sindri. Both their relationship with each other, and their relations with Elva are definitely fam goals.
I knew going into this read that there was not going to be a HEA until the end of book two. Leading up to the last chapter I thought it was ending the best way. Not exactly happy but not MAJOR cliffhanger, and end of the world sadness. Until the last page.
ALICE! I was content with ending the book and having to wait until April for book two. Then you had to go and ruin it. I am not very happy with you!
Eventually I will get over it, and forgive you.
My advice to all the romantasy readers out there. Get this book as soon as it comes out. You won’t be disappointed 💕
I didn’t realize how much I needed a spicy siren/selkie story but I definitely did! The banter between Elva and her brothers was chefs kiss and can we just take a moment for Njall. Oh my gosh I love him. It was also great getting to immerse into a different part of Torian that we don’t get to see in Alice Hanov’s debut series. I cannot wait for book 2 and to have the cliffhanger resolved!!
"Oh sweet boy," she purred, leaning closer until her breath brushed against my ear. "Haven't you figured it out yet? It's you who belongs to me."
I absolutely loved the concept of this one! This is the second siren romantasy I've read, and I am desperate for more. This world had minotaurs, witches, werewolves, mermaids, selkies, satyrs, and more! I enjoyed how some species kept to their own territories and how there were also large cities where everyone gathered together. The world-building was great, the story was fast-paced and engaging as well as deliciously spicy.
The only downside to having an ARC is you have to wait even longer for the next book. I'm so impatient! 4.5 stars from me.
I had the privilege of receiving an advanced reader copy of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the captivating storyline. The book began with a lot of spice and developed into a well-crafted plot. I am interested to see where the story will go from here!
I received an ARC copy of this book (I’m a little behind in my reading) so I’m late posting my review. But let me tell you.. the way I tore through this book. The characters, their stories, the banter. All of it, chefs kiss. The story pulls you in, keeps you hooked and the ending.. torture. Alice did an amazing job at building a world with mystical and magical creatures, lore that we could only dream was reality and a burning desire for the next book. 10/10 recommend, but hold onto your hearts, because she’ll pull them in every direction. 😭🖤
This was my first book by Alice Hanov and it won’t be my last! A dark fantasy read involving a heavy dose of feminine rage and a stabby siren-selkie FMC? Sign. Me. Up.
🖤Found Family 💙Sassy Siren Siblings ⚔️Stabby & Grumpy FMC 🗡️Feminine Rage ✨Experienced FMC 🖤Immediate Connection 💙He Falls First ⚔️Rescue Missions 🗡️Touch Her/Him & ☠️ ✨One Blanket/One Bed 🖤“No one touches what belongs to me.”

Elva was never meant to exist as she’s born of two forbidden bloodlines: Siren & Selkie. By her twenty-fourth birthday, Elva was supposed to bring life into the world, and instead, she became death – banished from her home and branded useless. Now, still dealing with her conception cycle, she also carries a dark secret. Instead of her cycle bringing longing, it unleashes a monster…and things can get bloody.
Siren women are feared and hunted, and Elva now travels the wilds of Torian with her twin brother and his husband searching for a place of refuge. Easier said than done because no one wants a Siren who can control men and tear through minds.
When offered the opportunity to gain everything she’s ever wanted, Elva has no choice but to try and rescue a prince in need of saving. But can she trust a man who is immune to her song, or will she lose control to the beast inside her?
Elva is a fierce FMC who has been trained as a warrior and isn’t afraid to use her daggers or Siren charms to ensure her and her brothers’ survival. When you get Elva’s backstory, your heart will break, you will forge an unbreakable connection with her siblings (we love a found family that chooses one another and stands together, while also annoying one another for sh*ts and giggles), and you will be ready to assist her in her long-term goal of revenge to earn peace.
Njall is magnetic, someone you will be drawn to even when he makes mistakes (which he 100% has character growth for), and is the man you are rooting for to protect and provide for his woman. A man who makes his fierce warrior and Little Pearl feel safe? Try and stop yourself from swooning (it won’t happen, I assure you).
The dynamic between Elva & Njall? I ATE it up! The banter, the undeniable pull and chemistry, the electricity of their connection? Perfection! Both Elva & Njall are entering uncharted territory because neither do “feelings”, but when a deep connection develops, the shift is heartwarming – they both deserve all the happiness in the world.
The plot and vibes of this book? Immaculate. I could NOT put this one down and read it in less than 24 hours. I’m also screaming into the void because the cliffhanger has left me distraught, feeling stabby for multiple reasons, and ready to get a plan in place because certain things will NOT be happening, okay? I need April 2026 to show up because this duology has wormed its way into my heart and I NEEEEEEEEED my loves to have their HEA, and cannot wait to put these nobles in their place and f*ck sh*t up in the process!
What a ride this has been! Heart of the Siren by Alice Hanov deliverer a sizzling hot action packed breathtaking romantasy. I was pushing through the fantasy world full of magical and dangerous terrains with mythical creatures. A world that is cruel, edgy and adrenaline filled. I am so in love with Elva, the half selkie half Siren heroine who is a complete bada&& while hiding her pain and trauma. I didn't expect anyone to match her energy let alone a human Prince but probably the selkie blood in Njall made him capable of getting inside her heart and under her skin. But its just the beginning of their journey and I will wait for the next installment..not so patiently
🌊 siren-selkie warrior × half selkie prince 🌊 Elva is bada&& 🌊romantasy 🌊 he falls first 🌊 romantic suspense 🌊 cliffhanger 🌊so spicy
I didn't expect this book to be this level of spicy and filthy and I loved it. Please read the trigger warning. This has a dark romance vibe too. Elva with her twin brother and brother in law have been banished from the Siren kingdom as she cannot bear children and her family wanted to support her. They are searching for a land to settle down and Tyndorf seemed like a good idea. Elva has to sleep with someone during her cycle to keep control of her blood thirsty Siren side and she ended up seducing not one..but two princes. But only one set her and her family free after being caught by the king and they are hired by his brother to rescue him from the enemies. The rescue mission will ignite something between them..
Elva and her family are trying to survive and escape so you have to keep an open mind with the strategies they use. Like Sindri is a sultry Siren and Elva uses seductive ways along with her warrior skills. Leifur is an excellent blacksmith but it makes me so sad that he was used for his breeding only before he found Sindri.I loved how fierce and fearless she is. Witty, skilled, gorgeous, dangerous..so many amazing qualities. The only time she lost herself and broke down was when she lost track of her family. Njall is a prince but his life isn't all glamor or power. His father despises him and he is at the bottom of his priorities. If his brother half Satyr Baldr didn't hire the team of sirens. I loved the adventure so much. Njall didn't trust easily but as they faced and fought the enemies, a bond developed between them. Elva never thought a single man would claim her heart. Bur Njall was very protective and accepted her beyond the rumors and lies with all her flaws and beauty. And the battle has just began. Njall's father won't let his sons decision to undermine his authority and sent them away for 2 Years and it would be a trial for all.
This was my first book by Alice Hanov, and I absolutely devoured it. Thank you so much for the early copy! This romantasy swept me away into the wilds of Torian filled with Sirens, Selkies, Satyrs, Humans and danger around every bend along the forest paths. I loved this powerful story featuring a stabby Half Siren/Half Selkie FMC, Elva, who defends her own and lets her feminine rage be her super power.
📚What is it about? Elva, banished from her home because she couldn’t bear a child, sets of with her brother and his husband to find a new place for them to call home. Sirens are feared because they are powerful and their song can control men, so Elva must disguise herself to keep from being hunted. As her monthly cycle gets toward its apex, her Siren side becomes more and more monstrous (and bloody) unless she beds a male to soothe it. When she meets a Prince who is unaffected by her song, she begins to let her heart feel again, but can she trust him and keep her monster in check?
💭My Thoughts Elva is a trained warrior and she saves herself and her family more than once. She is able to protect herself whether with a dagger, her song or her monstrous siren. Her past is as heartbreaking as it is tragic, and you want to see her not only find love but get revenge on all who have harmed her. I loved the relationship between her and her sibling and his husband— loving, at times aggravating but completely loyal.
I loved Njall’s character and the way he tries to understand and even comfort Elva made me completely fall for him. Especially since he is not use to having these types of feeling for a female, ever. Not threatened by a strong woman, he loves Elva for all of her— including her monstrous Siren side. Who could not love a man like that?
The plot is quickly paced, full of action and was hard to put down. With tropes including forced proximity, touch her/him and d1e, he falls first, sassy bickering siblings, found family, and he falls first, I fell head first for this story. Alice Hanov, how could you leave me with this book throwing worthy cliffhanger?! Needless to say, I cannot wait to see what happens next! Highly recommend!
Thank you for reaching out to me with your book and trusting me with a review Alice, I am honoured!
The book will be out on the 4th of November.
Heart of the Siren by Alice Hanov is an amazing book.
The story follows Elva our FMC, a half-siren, half-silkie, and her family, her twin brother and his husband, in the kingdom of Torian on a journey to find their forever home. The family is very tight and they love each other deeply. After all, they would do anything for one another. She is of course her brothers' keeper and a fierce warrior. What is different about Elva though is her two rare and forbidden bloodlines that torment her in a constant inner battle. Some serious circumstances will make her reconsider everything, such as an upcoming offer that none of the family will think it wise to refuse. This journey will be full of twists and surprises for her that even she won't know how to react.
Niall, our MMC and the eldest prince of Tybdorf has many secrets on his own. He is unjustly looked down upon by his family, yet he is always trying his best and has a kind heart. He will be "Forced to" join Elva and her family he will see things differently. This journey will shape him and change him as he had never thought.
The writing is deep and graphic and the atmosphere of the book is exactly what someone would expect from a siren book. The author manages to bring balance between the characters and makes your mind travel. The vibes of the book are more than I expected and for that, I am very glad. Although fair warning, the scenes are graphic! A lot! Read the warnings before you read. If after reading the warnings you believe the book is for you, then you won't be disappointed!

Elva is a siren-selkie who has been exiled from her community for failing to produce offspring by the ripe old age of 23…or 24? Her twin brother and his husband refused to let her leave alone, so the three of them have been traipsing the lands, looking for somewhere to settle.
In their travels they get caught up with a mostly nasty royal family, and witness one of the Princes being kidnapped. The only other nice royal tasks them with getting his brother back in exchange for a fuck tonne of gold, so off they go on their merry quest to save Njall (which is NOT pronounced how you think).
The premise was an interesting one, a warrior siren-selkie who has to mate every month so her siren doesn’t lose her shit and kill a man after draining his balls dry. Tasked to save a prince who ends up being nothing like the entitled prick she assumes, and instead is everything like her perfect counterpart.
Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into it.
As you’d expect, there is a lot of smut - no complaints here- but what I did struggle with was the sheer amount of on page sex with people that weren’t each other. I guess I just like my MCs to be exclusive. There was a fair bit of non-con and dub-con in amongst it too so just be aware if you have triggers. I also didn’t really understand certain scenes where the MCs would intervene either too late or after the fact, I just found that an…odd choice.
The loyalty between Elva and her brothers was lovely, even if their dynamic was quite childish most of the time.
I dunno, I really wanted to love this but ultimately it just wasn’t for me, I’m sad to say.

Elva was never meant to exist. Born of selkie and siren, she failed the one task the sirens demanded, bear a child before her 24th birthday. Now banished alongside her twin and his husband, they travel the lands in search of a piece of land to live in peace and quiet. But her monthly cycle unleashes a monster which does not make this quest easy.
When the Prince offers the 3 of them a task in exchange for everything they ever wanted, she must trust in a man who is immune to her song or give in to the beast inside her. Can she quieten the beast long enough to complete the task and ensure their safety?
I absolutely loved this book! It was so dark and emotional and oh so very spicy. Very different sort of siren/mermaid story that I’ve read this year so far but I really really enjoyed it. I love the idea of mixed magical species as it’s so interesting! The author definitely grabbed my interest early on in the book and I’m already looking forward to seeing what Book 2 brings!
Favourite quotes include: He was kind, and I saw in him the love and devotion I’d experienced when I came back broken and needed to be put back together by someone who cared more than my so-called sisters. I understood that day why wounded and assaulted sirens were sent to the males to be healed. They showed the compassion and kindness very few of the females possessed.
He could have abandoned me and headed back home, and no one would ever have known, and yet he stayed. Not only that, but he nursed my wound and took care of me. The only men who’d ever taken care of me were Leifur, Sindri, and the old siren males.
This was my first time venturing into Alice Hanov’s brilliant mind, and I’m only left wondering why I waited so long!
I’ve always loved a good siren story, and this has all the best elements of sirens while adding in the most unique and fascinating siren lore I could not get enough of!
Elva and her brothers have been banished after Elva is deemed unworthy to her kind after being unable to produce offspring. They want nothing more than to find somewhere to live in peace unbothered.
Things don’t exactly go according to plan when they accept a quest to set them up financially to meet their goals, and they discover things aren’t going to be so easy.
The high stakes of rescuing a prince in enemy territory, Elva dealing with the prejudice and ignorance most people have surrounding sirens, and handling her own physical needs to sate the cravings of the monster inside her, combine to create a deliciously addicting tale from beginning to end.
I couldn’t get enough of the family dynamics and hijinks between Elva and her brothers, and the spice and slow lead up to vulnerability and trust between Elva and Njall had me calling to turn the pages faster.
This book was beautifully written with both entertainment value and exploring heavier issues with depth and awareness in mind.
The ending left me scrambling, heart broken and panicking in the worst way, which means book two can’t come fast enough! But I’m definitely going to trust the author’s process and eagerly await a happy ending for Elva!
I'm very thankful for getting an opportunity to arc read this amazing book!!!
I really liked the world building, the interesting magic system, and how all the magical beings worked, what were their rules, their habits. It intrigued me that quite a few characters were half and half of something, which gave them different abilities, backstories.
Though Elva, book's fmc, were scarred and had her traumas and fears, I loved her strength, loyalty, love for family. She didn't let anyone bring harm to her or those that she loved, that she would always come back stronger, no matter who tried to trample on her.
Njall was such a sweetheart. Okay, I mean he had his dark and ugly moments, but who doesn't have them??? Other than that he was always supportive and patient with Elva, especially when he realized that the prejudice that he had about her were misguided. From then, he tried to show her that he genuinely thinks higher of her, respects her thoughts and admires her strength, mind, resilience and caring nature.
And of course those spicy spicy scenes were so good. It pictured that both parties could be as eager, animalistic and skilled.
I loved Elva brothers - they were so funny, adorable and the perfect lightness that this story sometimes needed. I adore them. They were perfect to keep the balance between the story and characters.
I can't wait for the next book, cause that ending left me excited and worried at the same time!
Heart of the Siren is a high-stakes, action-packed dark romantasy where subterfuge and betrayal run rampant. This story follows Elva, Leifur, and Sindri, three sirens looking for a forever home after Elva is banished from their ancestral home, and Njall, the first man that has caught Elva’s eye since her traumatic past.
As a warrior Siren, Elva was just that and so much more. She had that feminine rage and a vulnerability that pulled at my heartstrings. Elva carried a lot of weight as she fought to keep herself and Sindri and Leifur safe. She was so fierce, and I couldn’t help but root for her as she fought her way through many obstacles. I loved the banter between Elva and Njall as they both played off their true feelings. The chemistry between them was electric and I loved seeing them come together. The way Njall broke down Elva’s walls and made her feel safe was so heartwarming and made me swoon.
Alice Hanov delivered in Heart of the Siren a wild ride full of action with a wonderful mix of humor and spice. It pulled at my heartstrings as each character’s vulnerability was displayed, and I loved seeing their resilience and strength shine through. The suspense, the peril, and the journey across lands had me at the edge of my seat, and after that cliffhanger I am anxiously awaiting to discover what awaits these characters.
✨This book hooked me right from the jump—a half-siren, half-selkie heroine who’s been cast out, feared, and forced to wrestle with the monster inside her. Elva is such a layered main character, and I loved watching her struggle between the sharp edges of her power and her very real longing to belong.✨
✨The character development was one of the strongest parts of the story for me. Elva grows in believable ways, and the dynamic with her twin brother and his husband added so much warmth and depth. Their banter had me smiling constantly—it felt natural, and it balanced the darker, more intense moments perfectly.✨
✨If you love a good enemies-to-lovers slow burn, this one delivers! The tension was drawn out in just the right way, and it made the payoff so much more satisfying. I also appreciated that the romance didn’t overshadow the main plot but instead wove into it seamlessly.✨
✨The world of Torian itself was rich with fascinating monsters and magical beings. From sirens to selkies and everything in between, the descriptions were vivid and gave the story an eerie, enchanting atmosphere.✨
Overall, this was such an enjoyable romantasy—unique, emotional, and full of banter, monsters, and slow-burn tension. ✨A very solid 4 stars from me, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next book!✨
This book was really interesting to read. I haven't read much about selkies or sirens, except as inor characters or mentioned in passing. Learning more about both creatures, and Alice's take on them, was a lot of fun. All of the characters, including the side characters were well written and mostly likeable. Njall was an excellent MMC, he was broody initially, but had great character growth that made him caring, but still fierce. Elva was a great FMC with a tragic history. She's half siren and half selkie, giving her blue and green hair, along with eyes thst are one of each color. All she wanted was to find a home for Sindri-her twin brother, Leifur-her brother in law, and herself. She feels like she owes them so much because they left with her when she was banished from the sirens' lands. The book was well paced, I didn't feel like it lagged too much, and it was easy to read. Alice's world building isn't excessively wordy, but still gives good imagery. There is a decent amount of spice (not too excessive), but it doesn't detract from the storyline, which is important to me. My only issue with the book was the cliffhanger. I'm not very patient, so I'm ready for the next part already. Make sure to check trigger warnings before reading.
