This book felt like the intersection of some of my undergrad courses: macro economics, Black American history, with a dash micro economics and marketing.
Many of the examples were ones I was familiar with.
I really enjoyed more exposure to international monetary functions from South America with chapters on Brazil’s innovative problem solving for inflation and Argentina’s disregard for comparative advantages and attempts to compete with Chinese manufacturing.
Because Europe and China dominate the western economic journalistic landscape with more recent stronger influence in the Middle East because of the current administration and escalated conflicts regarding the Hormuz Strait, the South American elements were novel.
Learning about mogul history of Lucy and her partner- also cool!!!! Why are they not stronger Hollywood role models? How much of modern TV is attributed to their innovations, there should be monuments and theaters named after them??? Who knew Lucille Ball green lit Star Trek in HER studio?
I grew up watching her shows late late at night from my tiny Disney cars tv - so the nostalgia and entrepreneurial partnership with her hubby, amazing!
3 stars = good for me
4 is great and 5 is perfection. 2 is ok and 1, woof, no one gets ones.
I liked it, it was good. Maybe that’s 4 stars for you.
I felt like my mom throughout reading this… an NPR collection of well researched topics… as Daniel and I discussed, next we will play pickleball and find a better garage to store our bikes because what else signals our middle agedness than motorcycles, NpR, and pickleball? Hahaha
