Little does Ally know that touching the dead boy’s ring will trigger an adventure through time, in which she must save the boy from an untimely death if she is to return to the present.
Abandoned in the woods on a freezing November night, Alf’s prospects look bleak indeed until Ally takes him under her wing. I truly believe “Changeling” by K. Green will be a modern classic. I enjoyed this story that took turns as both heartwarming and heartbreaking… and a myriad of emotions in between.
Although the story starts in the present, it shows that time doesn’t change the need for kindness, loyalty, friendship, and being willing to go the extra mile–or ten, for those we care about.
Acts of faith and compassion bring big results as two children born centuries apart learn to depend on one another as they depart on a courageous and life-altering journey.
12 year-old Ally befriends 10 year-old Alf, who has been neglected and mistreated all of his young life. Thrust into a past that she has only learned bits and pieces about from her archeologist mum, Ally soon realizes that what Alf needs most is someone who actually cares about him and will go to great lengths to let him know his value as a human being.
In return, Alf has grown up believing he is a Changeling, and is blamed for every bad thing that happens to his family. When Ally challenges Alf’s view of himself by declaring that he is a normal human boy worthy of being treated well, an unbreakable bond forms between the two.
Together they face many trials, but also share some amazing experiences. Changeling is wonderful on so many levels… I urge you to read it and share it with your friends.
This was such a beautiful story about a girl and a boy from different eras going on a fantastical adventure together. But really, it's about trauma and the power of kindness, and that the first step to healing is acceptance.
