Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.

Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.

Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.

Johnson speaking at a conference
Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.

While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".

In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"

In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.

According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.

Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.

Hosting the Presence Everyday by Bill Johnson is a great devotional! Anyone who wants to experience more of the Holy Spirit in their lives - what better way than to read a devotional daily for a year? In my opinion, this is better than reading a book cover to cover in a few days or a month. While I enjoy studying about the Holy Spirit that way as well, I think getting fed bite-sized chunks for 365 days will help me embrace the Holy Spirit in my life as a lifestyle which is truly my desire. I love the different topics given each month - 28 to 31 chances to study a new subject about the Holy Spirit or about how He and I relate with each other. This is a great resource, a chance to get to know Him on a more intimate level. While I’ve started reading it this December, I’m super excited to get a whole year worth starting in 2015.

I would recommend this book to anyone middle school and older. It’s easy to read, takes only a few minutes each day, and combines Scripture verses and a prayer at the bottom to tie everything together. As the book says, the Scriptures overlap throughout the year to further reinforce the concepts being taught. The prayer at the end of each day is a starting point, a way to put into words the beginning of a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit that is personal between me and Him.

I’m so excited about this book that I’m going to ask my family if they want to read it altogether, either separately to supplement their own devotions or together as a family during family devotions or a combination of the two. I think it’s deep enough for adults but yet able to be understood by a preteen and teenager. What parent doesn’t want to start introducing and providing ways for their children to connect with God on a personal, intimate level? What better way to do that than as a Bible study together or giving an opportunity to study on their own while able to ask questions? If the parent and child are doing it together but separately, they can share what each one took from it.

I received this book for free from Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

A first-rate devotional. Hosting the Presence Every Day by Bill Johnson is a daily devotional that encourages Christians to recognize the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within the believer. He writes "The Spirit who lives within you desires to also rest upon you," and that this resting upon believers is for the sake of transforming the world around. As the believer understands how to host the presence of the Spirit daily and develops an intimacy with Him desired changes are possible.
Each devotional begins with a statement and the statement is then developed in several paragraphs. Each day references a short Bible passage for meditative purposes and there is also a short guided prayer to be used, as the author states "as a launching pad...to help you talk with the Holy Spirit about what you discovered" that particular day.
Each month focuses on a different aspect of hosting the Prescence, beginning with Your Ultimate Assignment and continuing through with Restoration, Significance,Your Inheritance of Outpouring and ending with Your Baptism of Fire. To stir the reader's hunger for this baptism, at the end of the year Johnson gives examples of the transformed lives of notable individuals.
This devotional is a straightforward teaching on the Holy Spirit, to be 'caught' in small morsels that can be used for meditation and introspection. It could easily be used as a couple's or family devotional encouraging the believer to a more intimate walk with God.

Developed Hunger for God

This book developed in me a hunger for God and all that He does to and in the believer. It's simple and deep. It also made familiar passages take on deeper meaning. May God bless him and Beni as they steward God's presence.

Hosting the Presence Every Day by Bill Johnson is “365 days to unveiling Heaven’s agenda for your life”. As the author states in his introduction, “The Quest to host God’s Presence does not being with formulas or principles. It stars with an increasing awareness of Who live within you”. To all that have given their life and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, this is truth. While it is a stunning, it can also be overwhelming to some. Hosting the Presence Every Day is a wonderful devotional on the Holy Spirit and the relationship between Christians and the Holy Spirit. Bill Johnson addresses different aspects and truths organized by month. He explains fully and simply each topic so that even younger people can read and study this devotional. Each day has a daily scripture reading and a prayer to focus the reader on the key aspect of the day. He has a way of presenting his ideas that inspire and instruct. The cover states: “365 Days to Unveiling Heaven’s Agenda for Your Life”. His writing takes you from the beginning of mankind to today, discussing Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to His presence in our lives today. These brief daily devotionals have great impact in a few thoughts and words. The chapter headings range from Your Ultimate Assignment, Your Significance in God’s Presence, Experience God’s Empowering Presence, Releasing the Dove, Keys to Practically Hosting the Presence, to Your Baptism of Fire among others. Each devotional enlightens, encourages, and inspires. Bill Johnson teaches effectively “how to walk in the power and anointing of the Spirit” and “transform your world.” This fifth-generation pastor has created a very important tool for those who want more of the Holy Spirit and a more fulfilling relationship with the Holy Spirit. I highly recommend this excellent book. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

I first received this book in December and it is a devotional that starts on January 1. I decided to see how it flowed if I just flipped to the current day in December. It was good but I really do think this book builds on itself. On January 1, I opened it to the beginning. It is a nice devotional but as I skipped days here and there, I think I did miss some things. However, just this week, I thought I should open it again to ‘today’. God really used it to speak to a topic that I needed direction and confirmation on. So Holy Spirit was on the move that day to deepen my relationship with the Father through confirmation in this book.

So, more concisely, I love Bill Johnson’s writings and have listened to his messages online many times. From what I can tell from the days I have read, the book is about our presence with our Father and our interaction with the Holy Spirit. The devotionals are solid and each day has writing from Bill, a daily Scripture reading and a payer. Each month also has a different ‘theme.’ (January was “Your Ultimate Assignment”. July was “Your Inheritance of Outpouring”.) Although I probably won’t read this devotional daily, I think I will gain some valuable insight from reading this book on occasion.

Hosting the Presence Every Day: 365 Days of Unveiling Heaven’s Agenda for Your LIfe
by Bill Johnson

Publ: Destiny Image c.2014

In this devotional Bill Johnson has provided a guide to help you truly learn to live in the presence of God every day. Each day’s devotion begins with the statement of a simple truth. This is followed by a commentary on the statement. Scripture readings follow the commentary. Each day’s reading ends with a prayer. This prayer is just a stepping off place to get you started.
The daily devotions are not so lengthy as to demand a great deal of time. However, they provide a wonderful place to settle into a time of meditation that will lead you into a deeper relationship with God.
I have grown from my time spent with this devotional. It has helped me to come closer to the place I want to be with God.
If you are searching for a devotional that will guide you into living in the presence of God more fully. I can whole-heartedly recommend this book. Bill Johnson has truly hit the mark with this book.

This is a good devotional for Charismatic Christians in particular. He does not overly emphasize the gifts of the Spirit so non-Charismatic Christians would benefit from it too. He has encouraging devotions for every day reminding us of the presence of the Holy Spirit and the necessity of our relying on Him for our daily life. He lists a related Scripture and includes a prayer. These are easy to understand devotions, suitable for the whole family.

I have enjoyed connecting to the Lord each day through this book. The stories are simple and lead you back to the gospel. This is a nice, simple devotional. It is not as in depth as I would like, but good for a few minutes a day to spend reflecting on the Holy Spirit. It gives Scripture to look up, but I would have preferred to have it already written out. My personal preference. It also has a daily prayer. Written prayers are also not my personal preference. Overall the book is interesting and should be quite helpful. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.
