Emmelyn's Book Club is a magical realism tale written for the young adult market.

Teenager Emmelyn can enter stories and interact with the characters. While in a fictional tale she is bold, confident and often multi-skilled; quite the opposite to her real-life persona.

It is through a book that Emily meets a student from her school; he’s literally trapped inside the story. With a missing person search for the boy taking place in the real world, it appears that Emmelyn may be the only one who can potentially save him. However, she can’t do it alone and when she finds two other students with important information, the three form a rescue team.

The story has complex layers as the magical realism elements transform and the narrative moves forward; a couple of times I was confused by the twists and turns, but not so much that I could not follow along. I enjoyed the experience and I can see this tale appealing to readers; especially those with a preference for book friends as opposed to real-life peers. With this comes my one pause for caution about Emmelyn’s lack of interest in food and the messages it might give to a sensitive audience.

Thanks to Netgalley and the author for sending me an Arc copy.

This book is for all of us who have wanted to just jump into the story we are reading. While the book doesn't take place inside other books at all times, that was easily my favorite part. I was hooked from the first page! This is geared towards teenager, so there is a lot of growth and self-discovery amongst the fun cast of characters. I will definitely be recommending this to others!

Immersive story with characters who go through a lot of self discovery and growth of self confidence. Strong friendships are built along the way.

The concept of Emmelyn being able to actually go inside of the stories and explore them was so cool and I love the way it played out. I wish I could go inside the world of books just as Emmelyn can! There were moments where I was second guessing if she truly was experiencing all of this or if it was just her imagination.

The journey of Emmelyn and her 2 friends trying to find a missing classmate is a wild and suspenseful ride. I love their friendship dynamic.

I was hoping Emmelyn would have picked the other love interest since she had spent more time building up a connection with him versus the other guy. I still think the guy she chose was a good match for her.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

**ARC Review**

J. F. Yamada's Emmelyn's Book Club is a fun, mind-bending fantasy built on a brilliant premise: a bookworm who can enter the books she reads. The plot truly captivates when Emmelyn discovers a missing schoolmate trapped inside a story, turning her ultimate escape into a high-stakes rescue mission. The contrast between her insecure real-world self and her confident book-world persona is a compelling anchor for the adventure.

While the story is imaginative and full of heart, its complex layers can occasionally be confusing. The ambitious plot has so many twists that a few threads get a bit tangled, slowing the pace somewhat. Nonetheless, the core story is strong and the concept is thrilling for any reader who loves the magic of a good book. It's a spirited debut that, despite a few complex moments, is a great escape for fans of magical realism.

Emmelyn’s Book Club drew me in right from the start with its imaginative premise—a girl who can literally step into the stories she reads. It’s a clever blend of fantasy and self-discovery that feels both magical and deeply human. I loved how Emmelyn’s journey blurred the line between fiction and reality, showing how our favorite stories can shape who we are. The suspense of rescuing a missing classmate kept me hooked, but it was the emotional depth and message about facing your own shadows that really stayed with me. It’s one of those books that makes you wish you could climb inside your own favorite novel for just a little while.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read Emmelyn's book club by J.F. Yamada. I wanted to read this book because of the summary; anyone who loves to read has fantasized about being able to step into a book and become anyone they want...which is what Emmelyn can do, but to her family she is delusional, and to everyone else she is crazy. Until she meets a classmate, Lucas, in her book world and must save him.
I so wanted to love this book, but I must admit I couldn't get into the story, like I thought I would. It had some good moments, but it just didn't hold my attention. While it was not for me, I think teenagers will like the story. 21/2 stars rounded up.

📚✨ Okay, imagine actually falling into your favorite book—except this time, the plot’s out to get you! Emmelyn’s Book Club is like stepping through the wardrobe meets teen detective drama, with a splash of “wait, what just happened?!” energy. I devoured this in one sitting because every chapter made me feel like I was flipping between dream and danger. Emmelyn is gutsy, messy, and totally relatable, and I loved every second of her chaos. If you’ve ever wished your bookish daydreams could come to life, grab this one—just maybe keep your bookmarks handy in case reality starts to blur. 😉📖💫

This chick can read books, go into the book, and eventually learn to take abilities from the main character of the book into the real world with her. How cool is that? Add some cute love interests and a mystery involving the sudden disappearance of one of those boys and you have a page turner that every book lover will enjoy. Eagerly awaiting the next one in the series.
