I betrayed my bloodline… for the man I should’ve feared. Nikolai Ivanov. My enemy. My obsession. My baby’s father.
For thirty days, I hunted him. Through whispers. Blood. Silence. I found him broken. Tortured. Still fighting for us.
One stolen night. One forbidden touch. Now his child grows inside me. Our secret. Our weakness. Our war.
My uncle wants me dead. The Romanos want me silenced. Nik fights like a demon to shield us. “No one touches what’s mine,” he growls. His hands claim me. Possess me. Worship me.
But now the contractions have begun. The baby is coming. And we’re surrounded.
Anton’s men are at our door. Nik’s gun is loaded. One hand steady on the trigger— The other on my swollen belly.
“I won’t let them take you,” he whispers. The baby kicks. And the shooting starts.
Author’s The Enemy’s Defector is a dark, steamy, and emotionally explosive mafia romance featuring an enemies-to-lovers twist, forced proximity, forbidden pregnancy, a marriage of convenience, and a heroine torn between blood and love. Expect high stakes, brutal loyalty, protective alpha energy, and a love that defies crime family boundaries.
1. Nikolai arranged for Malcolm and Joann to retire, and it was made to sound as if they'd do so with Katerina. Joann moved into the Ivanov family house, but we never see or hear of Malcolm again aside from that statement. He just disappeared. 2. It keeps referring to the "three brothers," that being Maxim, Damon, and Nikolai that were kidnapped as kids. Saul, the youngest, was not. And again, at the hospital after Katerina's scare, Saul is there, yet Maxim and Damon are in the doorway of Katerina's room (with Nikolai inside, too, of course), and they're referred to as three Mr. Ivanovs. Where'd Saul go? Clearly not to the room with them. He's referred to and treated as their brother, yet there's also a clear separation in many aspects. I'm assuming it's meant to be foreshadowing based upon the premise for Saul's book (which sounds so good, but I refuse to read it due to the numerous references in this book (and probably the previous two) about him being a manwhore), but it comes across as if the other three, and more, are excluding him. 3. There were two guards with Anton. One was killed, as was Anton. But the second guard's fate is never given. What happened to him?
Katerina had managed to decieve the Ivanov brothers when their grandmother and her uncle demanded she must marry one of the brothers, but her heart already belonged to one of them, Nikolai, only he had been missing, she spent days hunting him down only to find a tortured man, mind and body, but nothing could stop their burning desires for one another, except now its not just the two of them in danger. Well written action packed, twists, desires emotions drama and more a great addition to the series
The beginning was exciting. Overall, the escape and the sense that there’s a bigger picture to uncover are there. However, the moment she realizes she’s pregnant without a test, etc., feels so unrealistic, especially given the circumstances. Also, she isn’t trusted, but she literally took a bullet for him. And then Lucy suddenly gets angry, even though in her book she didn’t really stand her ground? Sorry, but what’s that supposed to mean? I liked her as a protagonist but the story had more potential.
Katerina and Nikola (Nik) story is one of love starting when when they were much younger but never went away. Later when Nik was abducted it was Katerina that found out the location he had been kept and rescued him. Danger follows them everywhere they go, her uncle put a hit out on her, now wanting them both dead. The Ivanov brothers so far have all had problems keeping there women safe but Katerina is a far stronger person, strong willed and quite able to look after herself.
Book three continued the story of the Ivanov crime family. The author did a great job tying all of the storylines and characters together. I am looking forward to reading Saul’s story, except then the series will be over. It’s been very enjoyable!
The love these two had over the years is amazing! My heart melted when Nik seemed confused how she couldn't already know he loved her Felt a little light on getting along with Lucy and Sloane and I was looking for a little more drama there.
Excellent book! I loved the MC's!! They had sizzling hot chemistry. Book was well written, although it had several grammatical errors. It was nice and exciting making it difficult to put down.
I loved the enemy’s defector which was Nikolai and Katerina’s story. It was an intriguing slow burn. I received an early copy of the book. And voluntarily leaving this review.
