"Anthony continued to watch as the stranger embraced a smaller woman, with the most mesmerizing smile Anthony had ever seen. His hands dropped to his sides, anger nearly forgotten as he watched the jerk pull her in for a kiss, she only had eyes for him. She wasn’t extraordinary, she wasn’t the most beautiful woman Anthony had ever seen. But her smile was beyond mesmerizing, even from this distance he could see her eyes sparkling happily, her face shining with adoration for the stupid jerk in front of her.
Anthony wanted that. He wanted it more than anything. He wanted her."
When Anthony has a chance encounter with a strange but mesmerizing woman, her presence slowly begins to take over his life, as his obsession with her grows. He believes she's perfect for him, or could be anyway, and has every intention of making her see that for herself. But will the mystery woman's secrets be too much for Anthony to handle?
Self-absorbed Anthony has his eyes set on a simple woman who frequents a local coffee shop with her boyfriend. Determined to win her over, he goes to great lengths to orchestrate “accidental” encounters in hopes of creating the perfect meet-cute.

As his obsession with her grows, her presence slowly begins to take over his life, in more ways than one. He is eager to demonstrate to Samantha that they could be an ideal match, and he knows he can make her see it, too.
Hemlock goes beyond the thriller genre, especially for readers who, at some point in their life, have been in relationships with someone similar to or the same as the male main character. It adds a layer of horror that nobody could have predicted or honestly asked for. The male main character's thoughts and feelings will place emotional strain on the reader, enough to push you over the edge. Within the first couple of chapters, the sense of dread is so powerful, and you become obsessed with wanting to protect the naive female lead. The author has done such a fantastic job with the characters that you feel so much hatred toward one and develop a motherly love for the other; this strong character connection sends you on a rollercoaster of emotions, especially as the story progresses. These were strong characters, and made the story compelling enough that it’s difficult not to read the whole book in one sitting. There’s so much suspense, you need to know the outcome.
In true thriller fashion, Hemlock was fast-paced, full of tension, and twists that will have any reader on edge. There is a paranormal element to the storyline, and the descriptions of what the characters see and feel create a range of grotesque imagery. The writing, in general, was excellent. As the character descends into a downward spiral, the reader feels that descent, too, and that says a lot about the writing.
Hemlock is the perfect thriller for readers who love big feelings, particularly anxiety, dread, and fear. This one is for you. The way the story is written builds anticipation, making it hard to put down. A warning: if you have been in a toxic relationship, the male lead could be triggering.
