Kendra is a werewolf raised by a vampire who wanted nothing more than to have a daughter of his own. Her questions about her life and her origins are endless, yet they go unanswered. Tired of being frustrated and neglected, Kendra sets off with Marc, her adoptive vampire brother, to find out what secrets their father has hidden. She is ready to find out the truth, or so she thinks. When the curtain is pulled back, will she be able to handle what is revealed?
By ancient decree, the hybrid blood that pumps through her veins is a sign of the end of existence for both species. With both sides believing that the change occurring inside of her will mean the end of civilization, she has no choice but to run and hide. Before she can confront the ones that hunt her, she must face the beast that dwells inside.
The Hybrid has awakened and if not tamed, it will take over. She has to not only protect herself, but those who stand by her side. Her new cravings are strong and frightening things, and she has heard of the struggles vampires have to tame the thirst for blood. Will she be able to do it? Bloodlust is a powerful thing, especially when the one you crave and the one whose essence calls out to you, is also the one who holds your heart.
Born and raised in Chicago, IL, writing has always been a passion for Jessica Cage. She dabbles in artistic creations of all sorts but at the end of the day, it's the pen that her hand itches to hold. Jessica had never considered following her dream to be a writer because she was told far too often "There is no money in writing." So she chose the path most often traveled. During pregnancy she asked herself an important question. How would she be able to inspire her unborn son to follow his dreams and reach for the stars, if she never had the guts to do it herself? Jessica decided to take a risk and unleash the plethora of characters and their crazy adventurous worlds that had previously existed only in her mind, into the realm of readers. She did this with hopes to inspire not only her son but herself. Inviting the world to tag along on her journey to become the writer she has always wanted to be. She hopes to continue writing and bringing her signature Caged Fantasies to readers everywhere.
So, I took a chance at reading Anew by Jessica Cage and I have to say that it actually paid off. I wasn't too sure about the book, especially since I only saw it due to TikTok (the author is on the app.) To be honest, I'm not fond with getting recommended books from an app since it could have went wrong. Fortunately for me, it didn't. Anew took me on a nice little ride where I was constantly on edge while cheering for Kendra (the main character.) The book has a nice pace to it and I just love how I kept wanting to read more. I liked everything about Kendra, which is a shock for me. Most main characters have a tendency to annoy me, but I didn't feel that way about Kendra. She was a balanced between dainty and strong. Not to mention, I love the side characters in this book. Marc has to be my favorite. The thing I didn't like about the book was that it was very short. As an avid book reader and reviewer, fifteen chapters is not enough for me. I wanted more of the characters and the plot. I enjoyed the experience that I had with this book. I would definitely recommend it to those who would loves paranormal books. I give Anew a 5 out of 5 rating.
I was really into the initial idea of the world, the issues with wolves and vampires, but the actual story felt a little all over the place. There was a lot of promise, but I felt it got bogged down among details and the prominence of the romance. I wanted to be invested in Kendra and Max except their attraction seemed like it popped up suddenly then just they were together with him as her anchor. I feel like it could have been fleshed out more and taken a little slower to really work their chemistry before diving into their deep connection. I'll likely give another book by the author a try down the road.
Okay so I'm feeling some type of way I'm wondering if there's going to be a part to this was a very good book and I must say that this book kept me on my toes and I cannot wait to see what else going to happen this is a book you should read
I am very impressed with Ms. Cage's writing. I was so totally caught up into this book, I barely put it down long enough to cook dinner. And it was a fast dinner (Hamburger helper) lol. I am drooling to read part 2.
Growing up in a family that is not yours can be tough. That they are a different species and that you were practically given to them makes it harder. No matter the love that Father showers on Kendra she knows that she does not belong. The urge to find her roots eats at her and she finally takes a leap of faith to do just that. With the help of her “brother” Marc they set out to find Kendra’s parents and the answers Kendra so desperately seeks. What awaits them in wolf territory is something way beyond their comprehension or imaginations. Led by Max to a mysterious location; secrets, lies and impossibilities are revealed that will change all of their lives forever. Will Kendra be strong enough to live with these discoveries? Will the things they learn cause not only their world but the whole supernatural world to crumble bit by bit?
I found this book very interesting very different from any other shifter/vampire book that I've read before looking forward to seeing what's going to happen next.
