Loyalty collides with longing. Secrets unravel under pressure. And the only way out… is together.

Reid Hanlon has lived his entire life behind the armor of duty. As the nephew of Chase Security legend Tuck Hanlon and the lead of their newest elite team, Reid knows the lead hard, trust rarely, and never let it get personal.

Claire Bowman knows better. Once one of the sharpest minds in intelligence, she walked away after a betrayal that nearly destroyed her. But when she attends a Chase gala and spots a threat everyone else misses, she’s dragged back into the world she swore off.

Reid and Claire’s connection is instant, unwelcome, and inevitable. As the breach escalates into a full-blown conspiracy embedded deep inside Chase itself, they’re forced into a dangerous alliance where survival depends on instincts, loyalty, and a trust neither thought they had left.

Getting close isn’t just risky—it’s a vulnerability the enemy is counting on. Yet sticking together is the only way they'll survive.

Anchor didn’t just hook me — it dragged me straight into the Chase Legacy universe by the collar and whispered “you’re not leaving.” This is a 5‑star, heart‑pounding, swoon‑til‑you‑fall‑off‑the‑couch romantic suspense that hits every single one of my buttons like it’s trying to win a prize.

Reid Hanlon walks in with that lethal, quiet intensity that says “I’ve seen too much, don’t ask,” and naturally my brain went, oh no he’s hot. He’s all discipline and emotional lockdown, the kind of man who would rather chew glass than admit he has feelings. And then Claire Bowman shows up and absolutely ruins his life in the best possible way.

Claire is everything.
Brilliant. Wounded. Done with everyone’s nonsense.
She’s carrying trauma like it’s a designer handbag and still manages to be the sharpest person in any room she walks into. The moment she spots a threat at the gala — before anyone else even twitches — I knew she was my girl.

And Reid?
Sir.
You can pretend you’re unaffected all you want, but the way you orbit Claire like she’s the only source of oxygen in the building? Yeah. We see you.

Their chemistry is that delicious slow‑burn where every look feels like foreplay and every conversation is basically emotional strip‑tease. Two guarded people circling each other like they’re afraid touching will set off a bomb — which, honestly, it kind of does.

And the conspiracy plot?
Oh, it SLAPS.
Twisted, layered, and so deep inside Chase Security that even the walls are suspicious. Every chapter tightens the tension. Every reveal hits like a gut punch. It’s cinematic, it’s sharp, and it never lets you breathe for too long.

But the real magic is watching Reid and Claire slowly — painfully — let each other in.
The trust.
The vulnerability.
The “I would burn the world down before I let anything happen to you” energy.
It’s messy and raw and so earned.

As a series opener, it’s perfection.
New blood, new danger, same addictive “I’m in too deep but I don’t care” Chase vibe.

A 5‑star, pulse‑spiking, heart‑squeezing, chaos‑approved romantic suspense that proves love is the most dangerous mission of all.

When I started this I didn’t realise what a hefty read this would be as I admit I felt a little intimidated but you time flies when you’re having fun and it’s the same when reading 😉💓📚

I fell in love with the dedication ….

“For the ones who came before us, who built the name we stand behind. And for the ones who follow us, may they know that strength isn’t in never falling, but in standing tall for those we love. This is for every family related not just by blood, but also by choice. For every legacy and every anchor held, with all my heart.”

Being new to the Chase family I had a hunkering to read about the predecessors so it’ll be added to my TBR pile having said that I’ve read other books of this author so I should’ve known what to expect 🥰

Reid is the nephew of Chase Security , Tuck Hanlon and the man is a legend and if it weren’t for him I don’t think Reid would’ve survived his childhood , I mean the man helped raise him and was more a father figure than an uncle 🤗 and I don’t honk he was prepared for Claire no matter how well he’s been trained .

Claire also didn’t have it easy I mean her father is a senator and and high standard and a different set of rules and she’s got a brilliant kind that her mother like to exploit shame on you parentals ! Look Claire may be brilliant but she’s still human and she had to walk away from everything is she stayed the betrayal would’ve destroyed her and as it is it nearly did but our girl is a real Phoenix ….

Claire may’ve walked away but her brain is still wired a certain way so when at a function she notices something others don’t and that is when her path crossed with Reid’’s …..
Claire and Reid have to trust each other and depend on each other and that makes them vulnerable and that’s exactly what their enemy wants …

If these 2 had trust issues how do think I feel !? My fragile little heart very nearly didn’t make nor did my Kleenex supply 🙈😂

A long and rewarding that felt short because so many boxes were being ticked and so many emotions were being felt and I felt both drained and fulfilled when I was done so mission accomplished 😉🥰

Neither Claire nor Reid fully expects their connection; not when betrayal has left her suspicious of everyone, and not when he has sworn his life to duty, to making his Uncle proud, and to definitely not getting emotionally attached to someone who is just supposed to be part of the job. But connection is exactly what happens, and as things become more dangerous for both of them, they are forced to work together, their connection only getting stronger despite both of their apprehension.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t for me. I’m not a massive fan of romance novels that are Insta-love and insta-connection, and this book very much felt that way. For people who love to read that kind of thing, this book is definitely for you; both Claire and Reid seem to have a connection from the moment they meet. I don’t think I would have minded if whatever connection they had took a little bit more time to develop. Still, as it was, when things sort of happened between Claire and Reid, I didn’t feel like I knew them well enough to really engage with the development of their relationship. I thought the suspense was pretty good, and all in all, Dunn writes well, adding plenty of action and drama to the story. I just struggled to really connect with the characters and fully follow their motivations. From what I have read, this is a spin-off series from a previous series Dunn has already written. I haven't read Dunn’s previous work, and I'm concerned that my connection with certain characters may have been lost without the context and history of the previous series. I’ve got to say, though, my favourite character was Uncle Tuck; he was pretty awesome, and I did think the whole thing with Chase Security was a pretty cool idea.

If you’re looking for a good suspense romance, with plenty of action and intrigue, and you enjoy an insta-connection/insta-love scenario, then look no further. This book has all those elements, and the great part is, it's part of a series, so there will be plenty of story for you to sink your teeth into. Even though this book wasn’t for me, Dunn writes in a wonderfully descriptive way that really paints a picture for the reader.

This is the first book in the Chase Legacy Series. As a lover of this authors work I got excited when I saw this book appear on my kindle. So I have come to love and expect from this author this is a romance filled with suspense, danger, twists and turns, chemistry and characters you can’t help but fall in love with.
This is Reid and Claire’s story.

Reid has had a hard past. With losing his father at a young age and then his mother turning to drink it was Reid’s Uncle Tuck that stepped in to help raise him. Now Reid is grown and uncle Tuck is helping him again but opening the door to Chase Security. What Reid is expecting to be a routine tame security job turns out to be so much more.

Claire also hasn’t had an easy start in life. She has been hurt and betrayed by the people she should be able to trust. What she doesn’t realise is how far their lies and deception goes.

When Claire helps Reid detain some intruders at the gala this is when their worlds collide and Reid becomes determined to protect her no matter what it takes.

What unfolds is an action packed story with dangers around every turn. Just when you think the worst could happen something else comes up. But the question becomes can Claire and Reid survive everything that is thrown at them? You have to read it to find out. I am so excited to read more from this author

Anchor (Chase Legacy Book 1) by R. L. Dunn.
4 of 5 Stars.

This is an enjoyable and entertaining romantic suspense story, and the first book in an exciting new series. Having read and enjoyed the ‘Chase Security’ series I was excited to read the next generation’s stories. Reid is the nephew of Chase Security legend Tuck Hanlon and the lead of their new elite team. He follows the rules: “lead hard, trust rarely, and never let it get personal”. Claire Bowman was one of the sharpest minds in intelligence, until she walked away following a devastating betrayal. However, when she spots a threat missed by everyone else at a Chase gala, she finds herself back in the world she was determined not to return to.

Reid and Claire are forced into a dangerous alliance as the breach escalates and a conspiracy is discovered within Chase itself. Their connection was both instant and unwelcome, but they soon find themselves having to rely on each other for their survival. This is a real page turner full of drama, action, suspense and of course romance. Both Reid and Claire are realistically complex characters who are very relatable. Their chemistry came across clearly in the narrative and I felt invested in their love overcoming all the obstacles. I was gripped throughout and I am looking forward to book two in the series.

This is Reid Hanlon, and Claire Bowmans story. We know Reid’s uncle Tuck from previous books. Reid had a rough start to his life, losing his dad at an early age, and his mom becoming an alcoholic after he passed, and drank to her death. After Reid's career in the military Tuck Hanlon has brought Reid into the fold of Chase security where he meets Claire on his first assignment. Claire is the daughter of a US senator who is in some serious shady business hell bent on causing issues for claire if she isn’t the “perfect” daughter. Claire is clearly a genius, and her mom likes to exploit that a lot for her image. She is not using her job for good though, and is putting Claire, and many others in danger, and is helping out some very bad people. This means Reid and the rest of Chase security has to step in. It isn’t without seriously harming both Claire, and Reid, and it seems like the whole book is one problem, after the other, after the other, but they eventually of course get there happy ever after. You will love it, and have trouble putting it down even with the crazy ups and downs. I 1000% recommend.

Reid is finally home from the SEALS and trying to get a hold on his life. He lost his father at a young age and his mother was never the same after that, took to the bottle which eventually took her too. His Uncle Tuck was a PJ, an Air Force pararescue, he tried to step up as much as possible after Reid and his sister Samantha lost both parents. Tuck told Reid there was a position available with Chase Security but that he had to make the step through the door himself. Once he did that’s when Reid came across Claire. Claire is some different and definitely very special that happened to make it into his first detail with Chase, even though she had no credentials. However he has now been given the task by his boss Ian Chase to protect her but he has also fallen for her. Claire’s mother Heather is a politician but has now set out to stop her daughter as she feels she is dangerous to herself and if she finds out things from her past they may not end well. However they may not end well either way. So now it’s Reid’s job to protect her from what’s coming. Has he put them both in more danger by falling for her?

This is the first book in the Chase Legacy series and follows Reid and Claire.

Reid had a tough upbringing, with his uncle Tuck stepping in as a father figure and helping him get into Chase Security. Claire also comes from a difficult background, being the daughter of a senator with high expectations and a lot of pressure. After betrayal from her family, she walks away and tries to rebuild her life.

When the two meet at a gala, things quickly turn dangerous, and they’re thrown together in a situation where they have to trust each other to survive. From there, it’s nonstop action, twists, and tension.

I liked the mix of romance and suspense, and the story definitely keeps you engaged. However, I did find parts of it confusing at times. It sometimes felt like I was missing information, and with so much going on, it became a bit hard to follow. I think this is because there were some references to a previous series and I have not read them.

Overall, it’s a fast paced and emotional read with lots of potential, especially if you enjoy protective romance with plenty of danger.

Anchor, the first book in the Chase Legacy series, by R. L. Dunn is long, but so worth the read. While the Chase Legacy series is a spin-off of the Chase Security Series, I didn't feel as if I was missing vital information. R. L. Dunn does a wonderful job of connecting the characters without making it seem like a chunk of the story is missing without reading other books. Anchor has it all, action, secrets, suspense, twists and turns, and plenty of romance with a touch of spice. The chemistry between Reid and Claire is instant and intense, but the story showcases the building of trust and loyalty. The tension, fear, and vulnerability is palpable throughout the story and the lies and betrayals cut deep. The depth of emotion was something unexpected in a military suspense/thriller, but I feel only added to the overall story. I cannot wait to read more of the Chase Legacy series by R. L. Dunn.

Anchor (Chase Legacy Book 1) by R. L. Dunn. I loved this book which was no surprise because I love this author. This is the 1st book in the Chase Legacy Series and I can't wait for the rest. Its the story of Reid who has had a rough bringing up. His dad died when he was really young and his mom turned to alcohol and drank herself to death. Reid joined the military and when he got out Tuck had him join his team at Chase Security. While on his first job he meets Claire who is a genius but her parents are using her as much as they can. Her mom is a Senator who is dealing with some shady people that is trying to cause Claire problems. Reid has never wanted a relationship but Claire is something special and he wants to see what is there. Can Reid protect her from the danger her mom is putting her in? Will Claire change her mind and decide to try a relationship with Reid because she can't deny the chemistry. Such a great book!

Someone who has read previous books by this author might appreciate this book, but I was left completely confused. It says it is book one of a series, but the author was constantly including references to things that made me feel as though I was missing out on something. It felt like I had been dropped into the middle of the story. The MMC, Reid, meets the FMC, Claire, at a gala. For some reason, when he senses trouble he allows her to go with him. She’s a civilian, and the daughter of a sitting Senator, but he seems to think if he tells her to stay behind him that makes it okay. So many things like that just had me scratching my head. And there isn’t much description of the characters, so you don’t feel any attachment to them. All in all it was just very confusing, very disjointed and very disappointing.

Anchor (Chase Legacy Book 1) by R.L.Dunn
5 Star Review
Two lives collide when Reid Harlan (nephew of a security legend) and Claire Bowman (Intelligence agent who is dragged into a world she has sworn off) find themselves thrown together in a situation where being vulnerable could be deadly. They must use their instincts, and find a way to trust each other if they are going to survive.
This book is a real page turner and once you begin you will not want to put it down until you have finished every word. The chemistry between Claire and Reid is exactly what you want in a book like this. R.L. Dunn has created a masterpiece that has heart, intrigue, and lots of twists and turns. This is not a short book so buckle up, get comfy, and happy reading. I loved this one and cannot wait until the next one!

The plot of this story is everything I want in a protector romance, but unfortunately the delivery didn't do it for me. The book starts off strong, building these characters, and it feels really together and targeted on an endgame. Towards the middle of the book, the story starts to add too much and so much about the characters get lost in the story noise. It becomes a vicious cycle of new problem, new pivot. There is so much lost potential to the story that gets lost in the addition of new tropes. Between that and the constant jumping between POVs in the book, I feel like so much could have happened that didn't, and I finished the book wishing we'd seen so much more.

This book had me in a chokehold with the “just one more chapter” lie I kept telling myself… and suddenly it was way past bedtime. 😅
Anchor by R.L. Dunn is one of those reads that pulls you in slow and steady, then before you know it—you’re emotionally invested and not going anywhere. The characters felt real, messy, and easy to root for, and that connection? So good.
There’s a perfect balance of heart, tension, and chemistry that keeps the pages turning. Nothing felt rushed or forced—it all unfolded in a way that just worked.
If you’re looking for a book that keeps you up all night and leaves you thinking about it after… this is it.
Fair warning: don’t start it unless you’ve got time… because you won’t want to stop.

Having read the Chase Security series I knew that I had to add on this next gen series once it was released. It was great getting reacquainted with a world I was already familiar with but with a host of new characters. It was great to see the series being continued in this was and I was pulled into the story right from the word go.
I loved Reid and Claire. They were such interesting characters and from the moment I started reading I was invested in their story. They were both pulled into the action which I thought made the book more exciting to ready. As with the other series, this one was just as fast paced and thrilling to read. This is a strong start to the new series and I am looking forward to the next book.

Reid Hanlon has recently returned home from the SEALS and is trying to figure out what to do with his life. His uncle, Tuck Hanlon, gives him an opportunity to join Chase Security. He ends up becoming the leader of their newest elite team. Claire Bowman used to work in intelligence but walked away and never looked back after a betrayal. She spots danger at a Chase gala that nobody else noticed and is dragged back into the world she was had left behind. The attraction is sizzling, the danger is real and heading right for them. I loved the Chase series. Now we are getting a younger generation?! This book is everything we have all come to expect from this author. I will definitely be grabbing these books up as they are released.

And I loved the Thrilling and action throughout this book and also the suspense. And I was happy that Claire and Reid got an happy ending together and I recommend this book.

Reid Hanlon has not had an easy life, his father died when he was young and his mother subsequently drank herself to death, but his Uncle Tuck stepped in and eventually brought him into the fold of Chase enterprises. Claire’s father was a close friend of Ian’s and when Reid saves her life that is when things start to really make you flip the pages with your heart in your mouth. Just when you think the worst has happened something else comes up and there is no real comfort until the very end when the reader can give a sigh of relief and a feeling that the future is bright for this new family.

Anchor is the first book in the Chase Legacy series by R.L Dunn. It is a second-generation spin-off of the Chase Security series - a romantic suspense with intrigue, mystery, danger, agendas/conspiracies, chemistry, spice, challenges, forced proximity, and high stakes.
This is Claire Bowman and Reid Hanlon’s story –a dangerous situation thrusts them together, and they will need to be on top of their game when they are caught in a high-stakes conspiracy where their survival is on the line…
An intriguing start to the series – with at least 2 more instalments in the pipeline.
Happy Reading…

This is the first book in this series and it was a wonderful way to start a series. This book had me turning pages and not wanting to put it down. It took me longer to read than I wanted because it was longer than I expected but it didn't feel like it was a long book. I could read it forever. This story was full of suspense, emotion, and so many twists and turns. I love the chemistry between Reid and Claire. It was hard to know who they could or couldn't trust. This book gave me all the feels. I have read books by this author before and I'm never disappointed. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book.

Anchor is book 1 in the new Chase Legacy series and a phenomenal start to to the storyline. Reid and Claire take us on a fantastic adventure with the perfect amount of suspense, action, and danger, with plenty of found family, love, and a little spice thrown in to make the story a page turner. I love how strong Claire is but how she works with Reid when she needs help and he supports her, always believing in her. Great start to the new series and I'm excited for the next stories.

This is the first book in the second-gen Chase Security series, Chase Legacy. Anchor is long but an absolute emotional journey from start to finish. Claire and Reid’s forced proximity and the constant danger they are under keep the tension sky-high. With every twist and turn, you don't know what's going to happen next. If you love romantic suspense with a bit of spice, my personal favorite, you will enjoy this.

Codename: Anchor, Reid Hanlon holds the line when his team is under pressure. But when his initial “interview” assignment leads to him falling hard and fast for Claire Bowman, he questions his ability to separate his feelings for Claire from the focus needed for the assignment. This book kept me guessing about who the “mole" was and how the good guys would keep ahead of the game. An action-packed and romantic read that I loved.

This is a good story! It is always enjoyable to see a next generation book. We get some new characters as well as say “hello” again to some old friends. In here we have Reid and Claire who have an undeniable attraction and have quite a time. There are many struggles that they work through as the story progresses. This is loaded with suspense, danger and action that kept me wondering what was going to happen next.

This is a bit of a longer read however it doesn't feel like it, because youre gonna be so invested its gonna end way too soon! This is one of those books that grabs your attention and runs off with it, making it practically impossible to put down. The chemistry in this book is insane, I cant wait for more.

Anchor (Chase Legacy Book 1)

This is not my first time reading Ms. Dunn's work, while I enjoyed each of the other books in have read I truly feel this is her best one yet.

Reid and Claire come from different worlds, she's a Senator's daughter and he was raised by his uncle starting when he was 11. But they are both amazing people.

The romance was not boring, but the story outside of that kept me engaged and focused. I'm looking forward to diving into the next book.

This book was a good read. I enjoyed reading Reid and Claire story. The chemistry between the two was sizzling, and I could feel it off the page. Claire is a badass in her own right. Catching a threat that nobody else, even the ones trained to recognize unseen threats is a feat unto it's own. It was nice to see characters from previous books. I love reading generational series because you get to see what happens after "The end". I can't wait to see what else happens!
