Rate this book
From the Something So Series comes a second chance, enemies-to-lovers, brother's best friend, holiday romance.

Elizabeth
My brother was getting married.
At Christmas no less.
The holiday I hated the most.
Let me list all the reasons why this will be the worst season
One would be my luggage not arriving.
Two would be being told I had to find somewhere else to sleep since my room was occupied by family members.
Oh, and now I am forced to stay with my brother's best friend.
The man who broke my heart seven years ago.

Nate

My best friend was getting married.
I was happy for him.
Until I had to offer his sister my spare bedroom.
It'd be fine, two weeks and she'd be out of my hair.
But the thing with Elizabeth was that she pushed every single button I have.
She gets under my skin in the best ways.
All we have to do is survive the wedding and the holiday.
Then she'll be gone yet again.
Unless maybe, just maybe, my wish of having her comes true.

🎄✨ Wholesome Love Story… With One Christmas Joy Thief ✨🎄

📊 Ratings
• Story & Romance & Pacing: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
• Nate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 💘
• Audiobook: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
• Elizabeth: ⭐★☆☆☆☆ / 5 → a.k.a. “The Human Grinch Who Stole All The Festive Vibes” 🎁🚫

💞 The love story? Adorable.
Two magnets, separated by oceans, pulled back together by fate and second-chance longing. The love story itself is wholesome and beautifully paced with tension, yearning, the whole warm-cocoa-in-your-chest thing. And the three fur babies deserve their own Hallmark contract. 🐶🐱🐱
🎅 It’s all set across three weeks of Christmas, so you’d expect snow-globe cosiness… but hold that thought.

🎧 Audiobook bits:
Jason Clarke understood the assignment: patient, loving, longing... He was a soothing perfection.
Samantha Cook, great voice, and well she did what she could, but honestly, Elizabeth gave her nothing nice to work with.

🚫 Elizabeth… another FMC I don’t want to be friends with...
Not just a Grinch but a toxic Grinch without a single compelling reason to ruin everyone’s holiday.
She tears down everything and everyone, constantly dishing out negative, passive-aggressive, and hurtful things without context or growth.
Page 1 → complaining.
Page 50 → complaining.
Page 300 → still complaining.
She ditched every event she could, ruined the ones she couldn’t, and rained on every single parade. 😒
She didn’t once show genuine happiness for her own brother. And everyone had to tiptoe around her like she was the Christmas bomb that might go off if anyone enjoyed themselves.
It’s hard to root for a romance when one half of the couple feels like they’d sue Santa for workplace cheer.

🔁 One more thing…..
This apparently new signature Natasha Madison habit of repeating the last paragraphs from the opposite POV…
Once? Dramatic.
Twice? Fine.
Eight times in 33 chapters? Please stop the madness. 🙃

💌 Overall:
Natasha Madison’s books always deliver found family warmth and cameos that make the heart full. The vibe wants to be comforting, festive, swoony… but Elizabeth’s relentless sour attitude and the shallow character depth on both sides kept pulling the tinsel off the tree…

🎁 Recommended if:
➤ You love the story archetype enough to forgive the FMC
➤ You’re here for Nate and the fur babies
➤ Your holiday spirit can survive a targeted attack 😅

Thank you, The Author Agency and Natasha Madison, for the ALC and ARC.

Holiday Unscripted was a delightful story, I could not read it fast enough.

Elizabeth came back home for his brother's wedding. Unfortunately, after a long terrible flight her parents tell her that they don't have a room for her, so she has to live with Nate, his brother best friend and the guy that broke her heart years before. At the beginning the new accomodation upsets them, but living together they realize that they are still deeply attracted to each other, so things become steamy pretty soon.

Elizabeth and Nate are perfect for one another. It was such a pleasure to follow their sweet, funny and emotional journey.

A second chance at love during Christmas time perfectly written by Natasha Madison.
Now I'm ready for her next book already.

🎄Holiday Romance
🎄Second Chance Romance-ish
🎄Brother’s Best Friend
🎄Forced Proximity
🎄Jealous MMC

this was the perfect holiday romance. I simply devoured it in one sitting. between the grumpy FMC, Elizabeth, and the odd dynamic she shared with the MMC, I honestly couldn’t put the book down until I fully understood why she hated him so much. the revelation came earlier than I expected and, somehow, broke my heart but the palpable tension between them made me forget Nate’s past mistakes and root for them completely.

It’s the perfect read for anyone looking for a banter-filled story that beautifully balances emotionally charged characters and a few toe-curling scenes.

many thanks to the author and The Author Agency for the eARC

I am in the holly jolly spirit already 🎅🏻🤣

Unlike our FMC Elizabeth.
Who is the grinch here in the grumpy x sunshine situation.

Our MMC Nate is the cinnamon roll with the golden retriever. Oh and rescue cats.
He’s a vet by profession. The hot vet.

Elizabeth is a doctor… in Australia.
Home for the holiday/ her brothers wedding.
He’s her brother best friend / best man.
One night stand
second chance

I loved the banter in this book. I loved Elizabeth’s one liners and snarky sarcastic personality.

Forced proximity situation.

This was fun, I had a good time.
Solid plot to spice ratio.

Elizabeth’s back home for her brother’s wedding, and the last person she wants to see is Nate—her brother’s best friend and her one night stand turned nemesis. Forced proximity + holiday chaos = sparks flying everywhere. The banter? Top tier. The chemistry? Off the charts. It’s festive without being over the top so it’s perfect for easing into your holiday reads. Funny, sexy, flirty, and full of tension in all the best ways.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a fun Christmas novel! But also a wedding novel too.

Elizabeth has been living in Australia for years, much to the chagrin of her family. So when her brothers wedding is on Christmas Eve, she's going to be flying back. Except when she arrives home, it's to no bed, no luggage. And her brothers best man is offering her a place to sleep at his house.

What no one knows is that before she left, the two of them were involved for one night. And it didn't end happily. It ended with them not talking to each other for years.

And it's not just Elizabeth staying at his house. She and Nate have to go to all of the wedding events (which I think is just cute mini bachelor/ette events) and with each one Elizabeth is just dying ready for the wedding to be over. Mix in a holiday she hates...

Nates is a great guy. He's the calm (sometimes) to Elizabeth's wildness. She's very, very funny. Petty always wants to win with a very sharp tongue. She doesn't let anyone get away with anything. Not her parents, brothers, or Nate.

Was what happened years ago the end? A mistake? Misunderstanding?

I laughed a lot with this one!

Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison eARC & ALC Review ❤️🎄

Oh my gosh, I had the BEST time with this book! This is such a perfect holiday romance that had me swooning, laughing and crying.

Elizabeth’s character is seriously such a riot. She is so witty and hilarious, some of the things she said had me giggling like crazy.

Nate is a dreamboat and the two of them together, truly- oil and water. Their banter is incredible and their love story is honestly so damn sweet.

I had such a great time listening to this book. I didn’t want it to end. A new favorite holiday romance for sure!

What to expect:

Second chance
It’s always been you

This is a fantastically fun brother’s-best-friend, enemies-to-lovers, close proximity romance with great chemistry, an irresistible hero, and plenty of family Christmas/wedding shenanigans. I loved it.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Zack and Denise (from Something So Unscripted). She is a doctor and has been living in Australia for seven years, and she’s flying home to the US for her older brother Joshua’s Christmas wedding. It very quickly becomes the trip from hell, culminating in the ultimate betrayal of her parents having no room for her to stay in their house, and she has to stay with Joshua’s best friend, Nate.

Nate and Elizabeth have known each other since they were kids, and Nate is pretty much a permanent fixture of the family. They crushed on each other wildly and spent one amazing night together which ended with heartbreak after they both mistakenly believed the other had ghosted them the morning after. They’ve never really had a conversation since then because Elizabeth moved to the other side of the world. Now she’s back and they’re having to exist in very close proximity while enduring ten painful days of festive wedding activities and bridal party bonding.

It's such a great set-up, and lots of fun as we dive on into the mayhem. There is a lot of character crossover from previous books in Natasha’s hockey dynasty, and I loved seeing so many of these characters again. But you can easily read this book as a standalone.

The real entertainment in this book comes from Nate and Elizabeth and their wicked chemistry. Elizabeth is snarky, hot-headed, argumentative and kind of obnoxious, so she’s reacting to everything in the extreme, and meanwhile Nate is a sweet and caring golden retriever with the patience of a saint. They know how to push each other’s buttons, and they bicker and banter constantly, and though there’s anger between them about the past, their attraction is still very much there. The sexual attention soon leads to wild angry sex, and when they finally start to open up to each other, things begin to change.

Their reconnection is a slow burn, but absolutely worth the wait. The emotion is there, and the romance is gorgeous, and I felt it all! But Elizabeth is only in town for a few weeks, and there are unresolved issues that need to be dealt with. It’s a great ride watching them figure it all out, and there is a beautifully happy ending that made me smile.

This is a really fun read. It’s funny and fast paced, steamy and romantic and I really enjoyed it.

4 stars.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook, and they are so good! Jason Clarke is always a fave. This is a great book to listen to.

Holiday Unscripted is a fun, spicy holiday romance with all the amazing banter between a black cat heroine and her brother's best friend.

Elizabeth has spent years working as a doctor in Australia. Now, she is heading home for the holidays for her brother's wedding. She is not in the holiday spirit, and her travel home turns into a disaster when they lose her luggage. To top it off, her parents have other family members staying in her room, and she has nowhere to stay. Until her brother's best friend Nate offers up his spare bedroom, to her horror.

Elizabeth and Nate had a one night stand that ended badly due to miscommunication, and they have been at odds ever since. Now, they are staying in the same house and forced to participate in a week of pre-wedding events.

I loved the chemistry, banter, and family in this. It was the perfect spicy romance for the holiday season.

I have to admit that I didn’t anticipate how funny this book was going to be when I started it. Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook are the perfect narrators for these characters! 🎧😍

Elizabeth is coming home from Australia for her brother’s wedding on Christmas. Did I mention she is a bit of a Grinch? That feels like an understatement with how much this woman dislikes all things merry and bright. Although Elizabeth is not a fan of Christmas it does start to feel like this trip is conspiring against her- lost luggage, no place to sleep and holiday-themed wedding festivities every day for a week straight. Nate is her brother’s best-friend and when she is in need of a place to stay he offers his spare bedroom for the week. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if they didn’t have so much history. What kind of history, you ask? You will have to read this one to find out because it is too good to spoil in a review.  Elizabeth and Nate’s banter is absolute perfection in this funny, enemies to lovers, brother’s best-friend, forced-proximity, memorable holiday romance.

I especially enjoyed the moments of banter between the two of them that had me laughing out loud, the moments of passion and tension that had me fanning my face and the moments of holiday joy that warmed my heart. There is truly something magical about decorating for the holidays, mistletoe kisses, tree farms, family gatherings and the chaos of Christmas that Natasha Madison brings to life with her writing in this book.

This one was a fun foray into the holiday season and gave us a great mix of family drama (the wedding activities for the FMCs brother were hilarious), banter and witty arguments, and of course, plenty of angst.

Holiday Romance
Black cat x golden retriever
Second chance
Brother’s best friend
Forced proximity

This is a heartwarming story with it’s always been you, and right person wrong time vibes. Elizabeth and Nate were fun to read and I enjoyed their story a lot. Natasha wove in favorite characters from her universe — including a glimpse at what’s to come (I hope!) and I loved that inclusion! If you’re ready for some fun Christmas reads, def check this out.

** Audio Review **
Obsessed! Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison was a fun, light-hearted holiday romance that had me giddy with damn delight from start to finish. I live for enemies-to-lovers tension, and Natasha delivered! I couldn’t get enough of Elizabeth and Nate’s “it’s always been you” mixed with second-chance chemistry that had me longing for these two to give in to their desires and go for it.

Samantha Cook and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in dual narration. Their performances in this audiobook showcase how talented these two are, delivering various character voices that had me grinning. Samantha’s expressive, sensual tone conveyed Elizabeth’s grumpy, conflicted personality peeling back layers to reveal her softer, vulnerable side as she gave into her feelings for Nate. Jason’s warm, inviting timbre expertly portrayed Nate’s charisma and swoony persona, nailing the witty banter and tension-filled moments. Both narrators created an undeniable, magnetic chemistry between Elizabeth and Nate that simply made me melt.

Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a holiday romance with a guarded, sassy doctor, a charming, dedicated veterinarian, a brother’s best friend, coming home from Australia for your brother’s wedding, close proximity, wedding itineraries, karaoke night, tension-filled tree decorating, flashbacks to the past, heated gingerbread house competitions, steamy kisses, revealing truths about the past, second chances, Christmas weddings, spicy times, snowstorm intimate conversations, love declarations, and a HEA worth staying for, then you will love Elizabeth and Nate’s story. I always look forward to more from Natasha Madison

This one was just ok for me.. I love a good Christmas read and was super excited for this one but the FMC started getting on my nerves pretty quickly! I just feel like she acted super childish most of the time. I loved the MMC though and I think he’s what got me to finish up the book!

I’ll definitely be giving Natasha another chance though because I loved the other book I read by her just wasn’t a huge fan of this one!

I’m so obsessed with Natasha’s writing and Holiday Unscripted was perfection! Nate and Elizabeth get thrown together because her brother is getting married Christmas Eve. Little does everyone know Nate and Elizabeth have unresolved history and it’ll all come to blows during their time forced together. I absolutely loved Elizabeth and how feisty and snarky she was to literally everyone. This was such a cute holiday romance book to kick off the Christmas season!!

Instantly hooked! 👏🏻 I said this before and I’ll say it again a million more times-Natasha Madison’s audiobooks are seriously the best! This was no exception! Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook are perfection together. BRAVO!

This one was one of the holiday releases I was super excited for this year. I just knew it would have amazing characters, banter, humor, and emotions all wrapped up in one. It’s exactly what I expected and needed and more!

Let’s start with Elizabeth who is the FMC. A doctor, adorable, and sweet soul. She is a Scrooge, but really for okay-ish reasons (we will cut her slack). She needs to travel home for her brother’s wedding that takes place on Christmas Eve. Like travel home to the states from Australia! Elizabeth’s brother and soon to be sister in law have plans everyday leading up to the wedding…too much for her.

Until…Nate, the MMC essentially saves her by keeping her very occupied (if you know what I mean). Elizabeth’s luggage is lost, she loses her hotel room due to a faulty pipe breaking, and then ends up staying with Nate himself. He’s upbeat and ready to take all of these wedding festivities on! BUT…Nate and Elizabeth have a past. Whomp. 7 years ago there was heartbreak between the two of them, and let’s just say a lot of miscommunication…

Their banter and connection are out of this world. They’re a lot of fun to listen to and read! ☺️ I loved the way their relationship played out and the epilogue at the end was icing on the cake!

Add this one to your holiday TBR…preferably the audio. 😉

Huge thank you to TAA and Natasha Madison for the ALC of Holiday Unscripted!

I am absolutely obsessed with Holiday Unscripted! I think this might be my new favorite Natasha Madison book. Literally, I am already planning a holiday reread. I would give this 4.5 stars that are rounded up! ❤️❤️

I absolutely loved this audiobook! I can be particular regarding dual narration but I think this was done so well!

The storyline was fast paced, always kept my attention and I didn’t know where it was going 90% of the time! This was forced proximity and brothers best friend done really well!

I absolutely loved Nate! He was everything I look for in a MMC. I especially loved that he was a vet and his relationship with his pets. I was down bad for him.

Elizabeth was my only hang up about this book 🫣. Do not get me wrong, I liked her in general as a character but she was kind of insufferable. She was head strong and stubborn. Like it felt like too much of her personality was the need to win and the need to bully someone. I was expecting these qualities to loosen up but never really did.

Although I had hang ups with Elizabeth, I did enjoy Elizabeth and Nate together as a couple. They felt like they had a magnetic connection. Natasha did a great job writing their relationship. Their chemistry was off the charts. Their banter was top tier. They pushed each other in the right ways, took notice to the small things and constantly were supporting each other. Literally, their relationship was phenomenal.

Would I suggest this? Yes. Would I reread this? Yes! Do u need a trophy? Yes 🫣 don’t tell David lol.

This was such a fun story! I am seriously becoming addicted to Natasha Madison! It’s only really been this year (2025) that I started reading her seriously (IYKYK) and the more stories I experience the harder I want to kick myself for not having her in the go-to column a lot sooner!

Holiday Unscripted was an entertaining blend of romance, family and friendship! I loved the chemistry, the warmth of heart and the #feels this story carried through every word. It was entertaining and delightful and had the “big family energy” I have grown used to seeing in Natasha’s works! Nothing compares to an entertaining, romantic and hopeful story with a backdrop of the Christmas season!

🎙️Having 🎤Jason Clarke & Samantha Cook🎤 narrate this story was utter perfection. Jason Clarke has been a favorite of mine since the first audio I listened to that he narrated when I began this #AudioEra I am in and with every performance of his that I get to listen to, I fall a little more in love with him! He’s incredibly versatile and always draws me into the story very easily! Samantha Cook is pretty new-to-me but my ears enjoyed her and I look forward to listening to more narrations by her!

• THOUGHTS:
Okay, I really liked everything about this story but the FMC. I liked her in the beginning, then by the time she actually got home for her brother's wedding, I slowly started disliking her. I completely understand what the author was doing with Elizabeth's character, but for me, it came across as bratty and not in a good way. I personally felt she was selfish and mean. Even though I am sure it was meant to come off as smart a*@y and witty. At times, it was funny, but at other times is when the bratty-ness set in, and I could not get past it. Nate and the family is what saved the book for me to at least say I was glad I read it and keeping me from giving up on it. Of course, I will continue reading Natasha's books her books are like warm hugs, and they make me happy. This book just fell flat for me, and I didnt like Elizabeth's personality.

Narrator Thoughts:

Gah I loved listening to Samantha and Jason. I was thinking as I was listening to Samantha Cook's chapters it had been a long time since I have listened to her, and she never disappoints me! Elizabeth and Nate have been friends forever. In fact, her family basically took care of him once his parents and then grandparents passed away in his late teens.
Seven years ago, before she moved to Australia, they had one incredible night together before everything was ruined. Too bad neither one of them thought to approach the other one then this whole problem could have been solved, but then we wouldn’t have this second chance romance story!
Forced to spend the weeks leading up to Christmas together thanks to Nate offering his spare bedroom since she needed somewhere to stay for her brother’s weddings festivities and since her mom gave away her childhood bedroom.
One thing leads to another…
Of course it does. ;)
I enjoyed these two and I especially love the scenes with the pets. I laughed out loud when baby cat was sleeping in the tree.

This was the perfect combination of sweet, spice and fun Christmas chaos. Elizabeth is a black cat, strong and sassy. She's flying home to the states from Australia for her brother's wedding. She had a long, terrible flight and to top it off, her parents let someone else have her room and now she has nowhere to stay. Enter her brother's best friend - Nate, the man who broke her heart 7 years ago, who offers her a spare room in his house. Nate is absolutely a golden retriever of a man. You can only imagine what this forced proximity leads to! The banter was strong in this one and I loved every bit of it. Elizabeth doesn't hold back with the sass and that's actually something Nate loves about her. These two balance each other out so perfectly and I absolutely adored it! Holiday Unscripted is such a great holiday read!

Natasha Madison is one of my fav authors! Her writing style is relatable & entertaining to say the least! I related to Elizabeth in so many ways!

Elizabeth’s personality is that you can’t tell me nothing, can’t stand Christmas, doesn’t like to lose at anything & I really mean even the smallest stuff, and has been in love with her brothers best friend since she was little!

They end up having a one night stand basically & miscommunication (of course) happens so she ends up moving half way across the world to Australia.. only to come back for her brothers wedding which happens to fall on Christmas Eve to only realize she’ll be staying with said best friends brother.

One thing leads to another and you get the picture! But the banter is amazing. The storyline is amazing! 10/10 read for me and I loved every minute of it!

Nate is an ooey gooey cinnamon roll of a man… that’s a vet and loves animals. He’s also her brothers best man.

The banter between them was great. I really enjoyed listening to this story!!

This was so cute! We have Elizabeth an ER doctor who moved to Australia and hates Christmas! She has to come home this year for the holidays since one of her brothers is getting married and has a two week preliminary series of celebrations planned. Think of Elizabeth as our grumpy here.

Then we have Nate, a veterinarian and golden retriever/sunshine who loves animals and ends up having to take Elizabeth to stay at his home during the festivities.

We come to find out these two had one night of passion long ago and never spoke afterwards. They both harbored will feelings about and misunderstandings. And Elizabeth is the queen of sass, innuendos and comebacks and really gets under Nate’s skin.

However, as they spend time together they come to understand each other and finally learn about what really happened.

Are they destined for a HEA or is this just a holiday unscripted!

I enjoyed the story as I love Christmas and it was fun listening and this narration duo made this a fun time!

Elizabeth Morrow is back home for her brother’s Christmas wedding but that means everyone else is back too leaving little room for her to stay. Nothing seems to go as planned from the moment she stepped off the plane and now she has to stay with her brother’s friend Nate whom she had a thing with 7 years ago. Can they keep their distance in such small quarters? This is such a festive and funny enemies to lovers holiday romcom. Omg, these two together are hilarious and I really enjoyed all the previous family members showing up. Get ready to be festive and smash the grinch! Told in first person and dual POV.

Wow! I am speechless. 5 stars!
Holiday Unscripted was such a fun & spicy read with a bit of comedy and banter swirled in it. I was hooked from page 1 and could not put it down. This book had all the tropes: brothers best friend, second chance, it was always you, black cat FMC; just to name a few. The book was amazing, but the audiobook was chef’s kiss. The perfect holiday book! I will reread this gem before the end of the year & every holiday after because it was that good!

Nate and Elizabeth…holy holiday cheer I am in love!

I laughed so hard with this book, and couldn’t help swooning at how sweet Nate is and how hard Elizabeth loves. Nate’s pets though…steal the show lol!

It was great seeing everyone and hearing some Max and Matt banter. I love that not every hero is a hockey player in Natasha’s world. Having both our hero and his leading lady in medical I think is perfection because they understood each and have a deep appreciation for one another.

I loved these two so much and it was so much fun being back in this world.

Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison was an absolute delightful holiday romance that had me smiling and laughing throughout this whole book. I could not stop listening to this book.

Elizabeth is an ER doctor who is currently living in Australia and is an absolute Grinch when it comes to Christmas. Typically works the holidays but this year her brother Josh is getting married and she has come home. Upon arrival it starts off with a bang, she has to Uber to her parents house bc they forgot to pick her up, luggage is lost , and oh yes her room is being used for other family bc the Hotel is shut down due to maintenance forcing her to stay with Nate, her brothers best friend.

Nate is our MMC and the golden retriever, golden boy. He is the town vet and the Owner of Whiskey, his adorable Golden Retriever and Two crazy cats. When Nate hears of Elizabeth’s woahs he offers her his spare room while she’s in town.

Now what we come to realize is these two love to get under each other’s skin. But even more than that they have history and due to misunderstanding have basically been enemies but the more time they spend together the more they both realize they still have that crazy attraction to each other they finally hash out what really happened all those years ago.

Elizabeth and Nate are perfect together. The sass and snark of Elizabeth Their banter and true connection are pure relationship goals. Will they finally get their HEA?

Samantha Cook and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in dual narration. Jason has this swoony, charming and charismatic voice that portrays Nate flawlessly and Samantha portrayed the different sides of Elizabeth perfectly. From the grump to the snark everything felt like you were part of the story.

This is a great book to add for the Holidays
