As the adopted daughter of one of Switzerland's shipping magnates, Mia agrees to a marriage of convenience meant to secure a powerful alliance. What begins as a strategic union slowly becomes something deeper until her stepsister returns and cracks start to appear. One overheard conversation threatens to destroy not just her marriage, but the family she fought to belong to.
It was wrote in a very odd manner with chapters going back in time with the timeline being somewhat confusing. There is also the death of a baby that is heartbreaking. It was terrible, plus ow drama but the hero was not at all interested in them. They both sucked. One was her step sister and one was one of his ex lovers. Whom he loved. But there was no cheating thank goodness and he really did love the heroine. Yes, the writing style was odd but I did feel the romance and love. The villains were awful and they did get karma somewhat. The ending was good.
5 🌟: → premise and words → comforting old school Mills and Boon style characters → best comeuppance for the protagonists → the slap → heroine with quiet strength, passion without drama, a cool & collected force to be reckoned with → his absolute devotion to her → the epilogue
Less:
4 🌟: → messy layout & formatting disrupts flow and readability → poor POV, timeline, chapter breaks → lack of proofreading → zero retribution for the ow’s actions → No content advisories of particularly sensitive on page topics
The story itself is really good. The characters are also really interesting and the relationship in the marriage is very good.
The back and forth isn’t bad, but each POV needs to be identified. Perhaps put the name at the beginning of the chapter. Also, a table of contents is needed. This should also have at least some editing and proofreading. And the format needs a little bit of work.
Readers need a warning about the baby. I did a quick search to see if the author included one, but there isn’t any. In this day and age, it’s needed.
Finally, I want to say that evil stepsister doesn’t even begin to cover this character. She is one of the worst wannabes I have ever seen. Vile.
KU read, and if you can handle it, this is highly recommended. It will break your heart, and want to run out and get a gun permit.
This book had so much potential, but the way it was written made it quite frustrating at times. The story follows Niklas and Mia, who enter into an arranged marriage to merge their families’ companies. Before the marriage, they go on a date and genuinely seem to like each other. Later, Niklas becomes the CEO and Mia the COO, and on the surface they appear happy and content. But something lingers in the background—throughout their entire marriage, Niklas has never once told Mia he loves her. He shows it in many ways, but the absence of those words starts to weigh on her.
The story opens with Mia overhearing a conversation between Niklas and another woman. She asks if he loves Mia, and after a pause, he replies that he “cares” for her. That hesitation shatters Mia, planting seeds of doubt. From there, the book constantly jumps between the present and different points in the past—three years ago, two years ago, six months ago—and the timeline becomes really confusing. I often had to stop and figure out where we were in the story.
In the past chapters, we learn that Niklas once loved another woman, Cecilia, when he lived in Japan. He even planned to propose to her, but before he could, she told him she was leaving for Beijing for a year and asked him to wait. He didn’t—he returned to Switzerland, and during that year he agreed to the arranged marriage with Mia. Cecilia reappears later in the story, causing tension, but Niklas makes it clear that she belongs in his past.
Mia’s stepsister, Angelina, is another major source of conflict. She’s spoiled, jealous, and constantly tries to interfere in their lives. She flirts with Niklas, puts Mia down, and expects things to be handed to her. Thankfully, Mia isn’t a doormat—she stands her ground and fights for herself. Niklas always supports her, backing her up while still letting her face her own battles.
The story includes moments of happiness too. Mia becomes pregnant, and she and Niklas are overjoyed when their daughter, Elodie, is born. But tragedy strikes when Angelina, bitter after being fired from the company, poisons Mia. Because Mia is breastfeeding, the poison is passed to Elodie, who dies at only five months old. This was heartbreaking to read. Mia survives, but both she and Niklas are devastated.
Months later, while still grieving, Mia overhears Niklas’s conversation with Cecilia—the same one where he says he “cares” for her but doesn’t mention love—and this is the final blow. Needing space, she leaves for Norway. Niklas eventually follows her, and this is where the truth comes out. He tells her he has always loved her but, because of his past with Cecilia, he didn’t believe in the weight of words. Instead, he tried to show Mia his love every single day. He explains that the conversation with Cecilia was orchestrated by the police, who suspected she was working with Angelina to poison the baby. In the end, Cecilia wasn’t involved, but the situation nearly destroyed Mia’s trust.
Niklas and Mia reconcile, acknowledging their grief and their love for one another. He proposes again, they remarry, and later they go on to have twins and build a new life together. The book closes on a hopeful note, with their happy-ever-after.
For me, the biggest issue was the format. The constant time jumps—present to past, then back again, then to another point in the past—were messy and confusing. I wish the story had simply told the past first and then moved into the present. It would have been much smoother. Toward the end, we also get Niklas’s POV, which I didn’t mind, but then suddenly Angelina’s POV as well, explaining her jealousy and bitterness, which felt unnecessary.
Overall, it was an okay book—long, confusing, and a bit of a headache to get through. The love story had potential, and I appreciated that Niklas was faithful and genuinely loved Mia, but the execution and structure really let it down.

This was a riveting story. I really liked Niklas and Mia. Their story was well written, even if there were some editing issues. There were a couple times when the paragraphs were repeated with aspects changed … it was Niklas’ father and then suddenly it was Mia’s … it was Mia’s family home and then it was Niklas’ … Patrik was the name of Matteo’s son and then it was Mia and Niklas’ … but honestly we never heard the name of the twins, whose party was at the end, which I am saddened by.
I will say, I would’ve preferred a trigger warning about the grief and child loss. It was so shocking.
I did cry, there were some statements that were so beautifully written.
Some things were left open ended but never came back around. I don’t usually like a story told in flashbacks but this was done really well. I wish that the chapters had been written a lot different with the express POV being shared.
I appreciate telling us what happened to Angelica, Pauline and Cecilia - I wish we had gotten to see more. I wish we knew specifically what happened with Mia’s dad. I wish Elodie had had to be a casualty, but this was a great read.
This one was flagged to me on social media so I thought I'd give it a go! There are no trigger warnings given and there are some heavy topics in this book including pregnancy loss so be warned before you read! It's also a little difficult to read as it's not totally clear which character is speaking at times.
It follows the story of Mia and Niklas who get married to join their family businesses together. Mia and Niklas feel something for each other from the moment they meet. It opens with a prologue of Mia overhearing Niklas talking to his ex-girlfriend about marrying her. The story is told in the past and present and jumps between the two (3 year period). Mia has a step sibling who wants Niklas for herself and does her best to come between them. She does some pretty horrible things including poisoning Mia while pregnant (be warned).
Angst = you know the h is going through something, but you don't really understand until much later in the book. Trigger warning for child loss.
Grovel = H has been stoically standing by, waiting for the h to see him again as the loss took not only their child but his wife away from him. He never wavered from her side and was deeply in love with the h. We see a lot of the story through the h's eyes, so we are under the impression that the H was unhappy with the h and wanted away from her (overheard, but there are REASONS he said it). H really had no need to grovel and neither did the h, but both needed to deal with their grief and heal.
OW drama = H handled the OW and never gave an inch, and the h was able to give a smack down verbally several times...it was great.
There are many layers to this book and varied plot lines that get woven together by the end so this review is not covering much.

1. This could have been a four star book but the constant skipping around between multiple timelines was extremely confusing and kept pulling me out of the story. 2. The first two thirds of the book is told from Mia’s POV then suddenly the POV changed from Mia to Niklas to Angelica and back to Mia without warning and again, I was pulled completely out of the story trying to figure out what was going on. 3. A LOT of formatting issues made it difficult to sync the book between my devices. 4. I have a hard time respecting anyone that could allow their family members to treat them as badly as Angelica and Paulina treated Mia.

The author did a great job writing the story of this couple and their struggles. What impressed me was that the ups and downs in their lives weren't overly done or exaggerated like in so many novels.
The characters were truly amazing both strong and heartwarming. They are people you can understand and want to meet. Of course then there's Angelica, you just want to hit her upside the head.
This was a great story. The only thing I would suggest is letting the reader know whose point of view you're reading. Other than that, this book is great. I loved the shift in timelines, but most of all, I loved how Niklas and Mia loved one another. It was definitely a tear jerker for me with some laughs and a lot of smiles.
I have this a sold 4.5 ⭐️. I didn’t see the big twist coming and that’s unusual for me. The only complaint that I have is that I wasn’t a fan of the writing style/formant. I don’t usually have a problem with flashbacks but I think a good editor would have suggested a better cohesive formant. I felt like I needed to take notes to keep events and names straight.
This story has depth and complexity. Mia enters an arranged marriage to unity two companies but also must deal with the ambitions of a jealous step sister and a former girlfriend from her husband's past. There are sensitive issues but the story handles these well and brings satisfying conclusions.
That was the best book I have read in a really long time. The characters were well thought out and felt like I really knew them. The storyline was paced perfectly. I can be impatient and get frustrated with past and present books, but this one held my interest from the first page. What a beautiful love story.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It didn’t go how I expected it to, but it was great. I wish they could’ve stopped Angelica before it was too late. I did love how protective Nkklas was.
I did not even think this would turn out as sweet as this did but nice to read on a not so ‘twisted’ love affair. A love that actually endured all the craziness that goes with family too.
I really liked this book drama was crazy good can’t wait until the second book about their daughter comes out. I tried looking for it but won’t come up.
