He’s her superior at the station. She’s the new recruit with fire in her eyes. And once the tension boils over, they’ll both cross a line they can’t uncross. She’s a bold, curvy woman determined to prove herself in a man’s world. He’s a hardened, emotionally closed-off firefighter who’s always played it safe when it comes to love. But when flirtation turns into obsession and a training drill nearly ends in a kiss, they realize this isn’t just a crush, it’s a full-body burn neither of them is ready to put out.
Mia I came here to prove myself, not fantasize about the brooding firefighter who watches me like he already knows what I taste like. Owen drives me crazy—in every possible way. He’s too calm, too in control, and way too good at pretending he doesn’t want me. But I see it in the way his eyes drop to my mouth, the way his jaw tightens when I’m near. I shouldn’t want him, but I do. And if he ever touches me the way I know he wants to… I won’t stop him.
Owen She walks into the station like a challenge, and every instinct in me wants to rise to it. Mia’s not just gorgeous—she’s fierce, sharp, and impossible to ignore. I’ve kept things casual my whole damn life, but one look from her and I’m ruined. She’s off-limits, and I should keep my distance. But the way she moves, the way she talks back, the way she makes me feel… I’m already in too deep. And the worst part? I don’t even want to fight it.
Mia and Owen’s story is a full-length standalone, but their connection is part of the Aspenbrook Protective Firefighters series. In this small town filled with smoke, strength, and slow-burning passion, every hero has a story. These men face danger head-on, but it’s the women who steal their hearts that leave the deepest mark. Come back to Aspenbrook and fall for the kind of love that’s as hot as it is unforgettable.
Title: Searing Protective Firefighter (Aspenbrook Protective Firefighters) Author: Ivy Noir Genre: Firefighter Romance, Small-Town Romance, Contemporary Vibe: Danger in the field, pure heat in the firehouse, and the comforting taste of a smoky dram.
Y'all, I just finished reading this book, and let me tell you, Ivy Noir brought the heat! I grabbed my glass and settled in for a scorching read, and this book delivered exactly what I crave from a dedicated protective hero story. This is the first assignment for new paramedic Mia Fletcher in her small hometown of Aspenbrook, and she is determined to prove herself. Naturally, this immediately puts her in the path of firefighter Owen, and their chemistry is immediate and absolutely consuming.
What I Sipped & Savor
🥃 The Firehouse Family: I absolutely loved the setting. The firehouse wasn't just a workplace; it felt like a gritty, real, found family, complete with the smell of engine grease and smoke. The camaraderie among the crew—the tired, dirty, cheering guys—is what made the whole environment feel grounded, making the high-stakes calls feel real. 🥃 Practical Romance: Mia is a determined badass who earned her certification and is ready to serve, and I was here for her commitment. Owen understands that life isn't always diamonds and roses, and the final scene I witnessed (that proposal!) was everything. He drops to one knee with a dazzling diamond and a practical rubber band. That right there shows a hero who gets it. It’s the perfect blend of mushy romance and real-world respect for her job. 🥃 Sizzling Chemistry: The tension between Mia and Owen is immediate. It has that classic "new kid meets protective veteran" dynamic, and the sparks flying were enough to set the whole firehouse ablaze.
What Made Me Side-Eye My Glass
🥃 Small Town Sweetness: While the book delivers the promised "searing" heat, it leans pretty hard on the sweet, protective side of the small-town trope. The conflict and drama are great when they happen, but sometimes I wanted the author to really let the couple struggle a little more before finding their balance. It's a very satisfying read, but it doesn't break the mold. 🥃 The Predictability: You can see where the story is going from the first scene in the firehouse. If you're looking for a curveball, you won't find one here, but sometimes, a book that hits the tropes perfectly is exactly what I need.
Final Pour
Searing Protective Firefighter is a perfect, high-octane escape. It's got the sizzling chemistry, the high-stakes work environment, and a hero who is equal parts protective alpha and sensitive partner. If you love a romance where the characters fight hard and love harder, grab this one.
I’m giving this novel a strong 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a keeper!
Pairs well with: A Peated Scotch, neat. Something smoky, complex, and intense enough to match the heat of the firehouse, like an Ardbeg or Laphroaig.

Ivy Noir’s Searing Protective Firefighter grabbed me from the first page with a forbidden, slow-burn tension that smolders hotter than any blaze these two could be called to fight. Owen is the kind of hero who tries to control everything—even his own heart—but the moment he lays eyes on Mia, it’s game over. She’s fierce, curvy, unafraid to stand her ground in a station full of men, and Owen is undone before he even realizes it.
Mia, on the other hand, isn’t about to let herself fall for the cocky superior who seems determined to treat her differently. She’s spent her whole life fighting to be taken seriously, and she won’t let Owen—or anyone—knock her off balance. But when a rescue turns deadly, and Owen saves her from disaster only to end up injured himself, something breaks open between them. The walls come down, and for one breathtaking moment, they let their desire consume them.
What follows is raw and gut-wrenching. Owen retreats, tangled in guilt over crossing a line he swore he’d never blur. For Mia, his withdrawal reopens the old wound of being the punchline of the high school jock’s cruel game. She’s ready to walk away, to turn in her resignation and leave the firehouse and her heartbreak behind.
But Owen finally pulls himself together, facing his own fears and admitting what we knew all along—Mia wasn’t a mistake. She was the one thing he’d been waiting for. And when he lays his heart bare, it’s everything.
This isn’t just a story about heat and passion—it’s about respect, redemption, and the courage it takes to trust again. By the last page, I wasn’t just swooning—I was cheering for Mia and Owen as if they were real people I desperately wanted to see find their happily ever after.

SEARING PROTECTIVE FIREFIGHTER is Book 6 of the Aspenbrook Protective Firefighters series. It's a short and steamy, OTT, enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, curvy girl gets her firefighter, small-town, office romance. Mia is the new sassy and curvy paramedic. Owen is the hunky, arrogant, playboy firefighter who is also her new superior. The two get off to a rocky start, but as they spend together, things heat up and sparks fly. When he pushes her away though, she worries she was used. Can he show her that he is all in? These two had great chemistry, the banter was snarky, and the ending was so happy. I loved it.

I’m glad she forgave him for being such a dumb guy. I liked how they fought all the time. She didn’t take any crap from him at all, even though he was the boss.
